  1. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 04:25 PM) hahaha love Kenny unconditionally? go back and read my posts about him when he wanted Sale in the bullpen. I wanted Kenny fired for that. but just to be clear, you want Kenny to fleece the other GM in every single trade, or else he's a bad GM. is that your stance on this issue? I can't remember all the specifics of the issue but KW wanting Sale to be the closer after looking so comfortable as a starter had to be the most idiotic thing to consider ever. I dont hate Kenny and if the Youk deal is an indication of what he has in store the next 10 years I am excited about that, but he has made some unbelievably bad moves as GM as well. I don't think he's a bad GM. This is the first acquisition he's made that I was happy about in a long time. Perfect trade. Two complete stiffs for Youk. Nice deal by KW. Is it unfair of me to want a deal like that once in a while?
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 03:18 PM) What contract do you offer? 1 year, $7.5-8 million? 2 years, $14-15 million? Long time to go before the end of the season, but it doesn't seem likely Flowers can hit over .200 at the major league level. He has HUGE pop in his bat, but a big swing and just not enough contact. It's amazing he's worth more now on the free agent market than the last time he was a free agent. It's to his credit. He has some pop in his bat again.
  3. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 12:05 AM) did you just ask "is it that difficult" to trade nobodies for a 3-time all-star and completely fleece other GMs who are paid an awful lot of money to know a lot more about baseball than you? you're ridiculous. I accept the fact some of you love Kenny unconditionally as I do Ozzie. That's fine. I can deal with that. I just have a different view of KW than most of you. I give him great credit for us winning it in 05 though. He helped me to experience my best moments as a Sox fan.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 02:04 AM) And $14 million a year cheaper. Money doesn't concern me.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 10:24 PM) Like the Bartolo Colon trade? I'm happy he got a trade right. I applaud him. You can't deny he's had some HORRIFIC moves the past several seasons. He deserves credit for putting together a WS winner as well.
  6. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 08:30 PM) honestly, for all you KW haters out there, you've been served. remind me all the talent we had to give up to bring in a difference-maker like Youkilis? He got it right this time. A lot of us KW haters have been dying for a trade like this where the Sox DO NOT GIVE UP our good prospects for a player like Youk and merely ship two stiffs like Lilly and Stewart off the current roster for said player. Is it that difficult? This trade is like trades other teams make and I applaud Kenny for finally making a trade where he doesn't overpay with our good prospects. If Kenny keeps this up, his approval rating will go up and up.
  7. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 09:13 PM) Is there seriously a discussion going on here about contemplating over Humber and Danks, really? Screw that, amazing sweep, greating pitching performance by Quintana! And a big time homerun by Youkilis yet again. Exactly, that kind of discussion is insane. Humber needs to just go away. Wow Q knows how to pitch. Youk is the type of acquisition that can make series sweeps like this possible. He's another badass veteran to go with Paulie and AJ. Nice sweep and the team is hot at home right now. Awesome.
  8. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 06:08 PM) As relief pitchers go, Bobby had a nice career. 5 pretty solid years. A few dominating stretches. 2 all star appearances. Closer on a world series winning team. No reason for Sox fans to crap on him. It was simply his time to go. Amen, brotha! I wish more people who agree with me would post more often. I am NOT ALONE! Nice post.
  9. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 09:52 PM) Greg... for the record... well, look at the records. Ozzie is NOT doing well in Miami no matter what you might think. All those star players and somehow they can't win... weird. Their closer has been a disaster. I think they will win in the 2nd half and be our opponent in the WS. We'll be destined to win and Oz will blow a gasket. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 10:01 PM) Nice start for Buehrle today. 7.2 innings, 0 runs, 0 bb, 8 k. 8-8, 3.25 ERA at the break. I LOVE Mark Buehrle. Quintana is Buehrle-esque as well.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 07:08 AM) How does that explain the success of Ventura? Ozzie speaks to the media, to the public....Ventura choose his words carefully and speak in a way that commands respect from the players and coaches. He's not loud or controversial or charismatic in the way you wish him to be, but it has worked. Let's look at another example of in the Ozzie School, Bobby Valentine. Has his "act" worked in Boston? Not at all. This whole idea of "speaking forcefully" is why our country has become so polarized. There's no reasonable people left. Greg, how many times this season has Robin Ventura thrown anyone under the bus? Greg, how many times has Ozzie thrown his own Marlins' players under the bus this season? Let's see, we have Logan Morrison, Bell, Zambrano, Gaby Sanchez, Bonifacio....the team makes a HUGE comeback in that game two days ago, Bell blows yet another save when that's expressly what he's paid to do, the guy's clearly not in 100% good shape or condition (similar to Jenks his last 2-3 seasons) and it's the whole team's fault, but NOT Bell's? Even Bell has to think that is asinine as the closer. Think its a coincidence that Ventura has been nothing but supportive of every player on the team, most especially Dunn, DeAza, Viciedo, Beckham and even the likes of Morel and Ohman? Good post, but I was referring to myself with the quote about speaking forcefully. Milkman was saying how I'd be more well liked if I didn't come across as a self serving know it all. I said you (meaning me) have to speak forcefully in this day and age of the anonymous Internet lest u get eaten alive. I like Robin. He's off to a fantastic start and if he keeps this up, yes he could have a greater run at this than Ozzeroo. I don't know if he'll want to manage forever; does anybody know if he likes the job? he's doing great right now. I liked him as a player and I like him as a manager no matter what Jordan says. I will forever defend Ozzie, but I want the White Sox to win every game and Robin to be the next Casey Stengel/Tony LaRussa/Earl Weaver, Billy Martin. But I also love Ozzie and will defend him.
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 06:14 AM) I don't think people would hate you nearly as much as they do if you didn't come across as so self-assured. There's nothing worse than a moron that thinks he's the only one who knows what's going on. Hey this is the world of the anonymous Internet. You either speak forcefully or don't speak at all.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:30 AM) Nope. Ozzie did nothing those years. Or any other years. It doesn't matter what he did or didn't do. He has one ring and that's more than any other manager in Chicago since 1920 or so.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:05 AM) So he's responsible for 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011 then too? As are the players and GM and everybody on the "team." I'll never understand the Ozzie hate on here. Makes no sense.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:34 AM) YOUK! ADA! BECKHAM! VICIEDO! AJ! ALEXEI! BULLPEN! That should cover about everybody, plus Mr. Double, Rios.
  15. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:03 AM) Happy Birthday You are a Yankee Doodle Dandy. A Yankee Doodle Do or Die ... Born on the 4th of July! Go Sox!
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:01 AM) lol. this is what i'm talking about. what does this have to do with anything? ALL mlb managers are rich. Think whatever u want; I only post about Ozzie in the Marlins' thread. I am a White Sox fan. Case closed.
  17. A walkoff win would be huge with this huge crowd. Everybody sticking around for fireworks. Sox must win.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:53 AM) Sorry, dude. I know what it's like to get ganged up on. But I think some folks are understanding where i was coming from in the nba thread. You're just obsessed with one dude. That's it. If this team wins, Ozzie becomes as irrelevant as gary coleman after different strokes ended. And you do not want to see that. You are crazy. I follow the White Sox; I have no stake in Ozzie, who is so rich he does not need my support. I do defend, Ozzie, however.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:46 AM) lol. omg, greg. You know i like you. but shut up. You're the one that smells defeat. Don't put it on hawk. You want this team to fail so your boy ozzie doesn't look any lamer than he already does. Are you crazy? I don't watch games HOPING THE SOX LOSE! I want the Sox to win every inning, every game. My gawd.
  20. Judging from Hawk's tone, I think he smells defeat. He's seen a million games and this one is slipping away momentum wise. Big bats and it's soon to be Thornton time which spells trouble.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 01:33 AM) Love to see a hit and run here with this combo Beckham is so hot I was thinking the same thing. But u can't argue with the bunt at home in a tie game. 99 percent of all managers would bunt that every time; prolly 100 percent.
  22. WTF. Why would the ump blatantly screw us there? We're the fricking home team. He was SAFE!!!!
  23. Why do those two fans keep waving at the camera? Don't they realize people watching on TV hate that?
  24. Hawk must hate Walker. He just credited Manto for Rios' resurgence. Another 2B for Alex ... my god he's resembling Kemp this season.
