Sox @ Cubs 5/20 game thread 1:20 first pitch

I think that did bounce off that house. I wish WGN still used the street camera. Why the f*** would they get rid of that? It's cool when balls go flying into the street. -

Those walks sucked but Jake mows 'em down. Would be nice for Flowers to hit a bomb this inning. I guess Lilly doesn't hit homers anymore like last year. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 20, 2012 -> 07:18 PM) I found this really funny for some reason. I can relate. That was a funny line by cool man. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) "You can't throw it back when it is on the street, b*tches!" Good line. God I love it when the Sox hit home runs. Two utter bombs. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2012 -> 07:08 PM) What, I talked about a guy doing insane things that would embarrass a franchise and getting a complete free pass from fans, and you immediately assumed I was talking about Ozzie? Man, you must really not respect him. I figured the bait was thrown my way and I was in the mood to bite. I have a feeling if I baited people like I get baited on Ozzie and Pierre and Wise, I'd be banned eventually. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2012 -> 07:01 PM) If a guy wins a world series, it really doesn't matter what he does in some people's eyes, he has a positive blank check forever. He could go out and constantly make homophobic, bigoted rants, embarrass his franchise, and have his family make themselves look like fools even by insulting the team, and some fans would still give the guy a blank check. Yes but his homophoic bigoted rants are exaggerated by his overall personality of saying anything and not being a genius with the language; lots of guys "embarrass" their franchises, Ozzie gets away with it by "being Ozzie." How many years was Ozzie a fan favorite for this White Sox organization? As a player and manager? Many. And yes he did manage a WS champ. What did Oz do that was so bad?? Not much. He talks a lot. He was a good player and manager. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2012 -> 06:56 PM) At least they can DH him. And I can say the same thing about Soriano's contract the Angels will say about Pujols's. If Soriano's signing had won them the world series in 2008, no one would care how long he's getting paid for. Well, the obvious is that Soriano did not win them a WS. Will Pujols win the Angels one or two? Maybe. He has 3 homers, one against teams not named the White Sox. -

So far this ump calls a strike a strike, unlike most. -

QUOTE (Jake @ May 20, 2012 -> 06:54 PM) It was one thing to pay Soriano a lot of money when they did, but it's another thing to sign him through age 38 Just think how the Angels will feel someday with Albert as well. -

This at bat sucks. Soriano isn't this good. -

Soriano would drive me crazy if he was a White Sox. Their version of Rios. -

Any Wrigley horror stories? Are the lines long for food? Bathrooms? Do people get mad when you get in and out of the cramped rows during the game? -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 20, 2012 -> 04:44 PM) True, but it's not that much worse than the normal lineup. AJP can't play everyday. Lillibridge has been bad, but so have Morel/Escobar so that's a wash. Fukudome is the only questionable move, especially with the lefty pitching. Good points. Watching Maholm, thank God Mark is in the National League and not the AL Central. Can you imagine how well Buehrle would do against our free swingers? It's funny how this guy is always available in fantasy baseball (Maholm) yet on TV looks effective. Q: To those of you who have been to Wrigley lately. Are the seats as cramped as they look? Is it hard to get in and out of rows or the same as any stadium? -
Things are good, not great, but legitimately good

Things are not that good. This is our first series win in a long long time. Also we still play lousy in the Cell. -
I'll admit I don't remember his performance vs. the Tigers so I could be off base here. But he sure has been meat when I've seen him on TV. He got lit up today. I don't buy that he was just trying to throw it over the plate. To the Zach supporters ... are you comfortable with him pitching in meaningful situations? Or just situations like tonight?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 20, 2012 -> 03:41 AM) Me being upset Paul got beaned has nothing do with your ridiculous notion that someone has to get beaned in retaliation. How about a bet, if Peavy beans nobody, you have to state that Ozzie Guillen is a joke. If he beans someone, I will admit you were right. I'm tempted to take the bet because I really think Jake is going to hit a Cub. But I don't think I have it in me to say Ozzie is a joke.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2012 -> 04:00 AM) Just watched highlights of the game. Balta, your post about how the Chicago media won't dare call out Wood for quitting on his team mid-May when they were struggling with relievers was awesome. And greg, how are you going to say the Cubs are going to get momentum from the 9th inning after last week when you said "momentum is tomorrow's starting pitcher?" Well I hope they don't have momentum. I was saying the media will say that. They may not agree with my take on momentum. I'm hoping Jake pitches like this year's Jake ... and also hits LaCock in the back with a pitch.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 20, 2012 -> 01:26 AM) I really like Ventura and it dissapoints me that we were stuck with Ozzie who gave more about what was going on in the stands than what was going on in the field (especially from an attention to detail standpoint). Stuck with Ozzie? LOL. Do you guys realize how hard it is to win a WS when you are a baseball team in history-deprived Chicago? He deserves everlasting love from our fans IMO.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 20, 2012 -> 03:23 AM) You know, I'm really pissed that the Sox didn't do what greg wanted and bean some Cubs batters out of bloodlust so that we could have Zach Stewart pitch in long relief. That would have been so much better than Danks today. You aren't upset Paulie got his face knocked in? Jake will bean a Cub or two. Bank on it.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2012 -> 03:29 AM) All that matters is what a guy did in his last outing. Stewart's last outing now was bad so he's a bum. Reed got a save his last time out so he's Rivera. Reed's never had a blowup and Stewart never had a good outing last week. Good try. Zach gave up six runs the other day and only one was earned. He's meat.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 20, 2012 -> 03:13 AM) Zach is currently one step above a position player throwing an inning during a blowout. The only thing that his appearance did was get the drunken trixie in a tizzy and of course give Eric Karros a special tingle under the desk there. In the end, a real pitcher was one baserunner away from coming in and ending their night. True, Zach is that bad. He is pathetic. Hopefully our guys have the killer instinct behind Jake tomorrow. A sweep is needed and a definite possibility. Cleveland keeps winning so this was imperative. Don't want to fall 8 or so behind the Tribe even if the Tribe figures to fall eventually like last year.
-
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 20, 2012 -> 03:12 AM) 8 1/2 innings of dominance is my take-away from all of this. Let's sweep this thing tomorrow! Yes, there's no reason for this to be anything but a great kickbutt win. Zach served up some BP, but that's about it. Now had another runner reached? Meltdown status, baby.

No harm, no foul, but if the Chicago media continues on the roll it is on, they'll be writing and talking about how the Cubs now have momentum for Game Three. Yesterday was Wood Day. Today will it be the "Cubs never died" day?
-
QUOTE (Jake @ May 20, 2012 -> 03:09 AM) He's not a relief pitcher. Then send him down for some meaningless minor league starts if he has options left. He's a disgraceful relief pitcher.
