QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 26, 2012 -> 01:48 AM) kind of a miracle we're still ahead in this game... AJ has to do a better job blocking those pitches. Sometimes he gets lazy and tries to use his glove instead of moving with his body. In all fairness, Quintana was all over the place and AJP can hardly be faulted. s*** happens.
-
At the risk of sounding critical, doesn't Viciedo just have to start taking some walks? I mean I do love the guy and realize he's hot, but he hacks at almost every single pitch. Once in a blue moon he lets a high fastball be. But not often.
-
Now it's up to Zach. Not a horrible outing at all by Quintana. Who is Quintana? How did we get him? Thanx.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 02:45 PM) I had that guy on my team for years. He was a big part of the team breaking up last year. We play 12 inch out here with mitts. Do you guys play 16 inch still in Chicago? Is it common to see guys strike out with the high high arch and the big ball? What do you guys prefer: 12 inch or 16? Is 16 actually fun? -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 25, 2012 -> 10:00 PM) I usually tip 20% on tax regardless of service. The only thing that Ill do that is b****y is that if Im at a diner with a register I just leave the money on the table. I see no reason I should have to get up to pay, to then return to my table to put down a tip. That is just silly and inefficient. If Im paying for service, then complete the job you bastards! We have some restaurants here where you have to pay at the cashier. That is annoying. I'd rather leave the money on the table as well. And if you do a CC, you have to figure out the tip right at the cashier which takes a moment to make sure you get it right. It's way better paying at the table.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 25, 2012 -> 08:28 PM) As I pointed out a month or so ago, there was never any indication that Buehrle starting in a game at home led to a greater attendance in that game as opposed to when Floyd started, etc. But how many of the Buehrle jersey people just threw up their hands last winter and said, "It's time. This team blows and now that they've gotten rid of Mark it's easy for me to move on. We'll watch the games on TV this year and save all that money."
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 25, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) You have absolutely no proof of this. Maybe Sox fans gave up their season tickets because they didn't bring back Ramon Castro? Letting Mark go was a great business decision, especially if the Sox want to give extensions in a few years to Sale and Viciedo, etc. Look at the attendance figures. How can it be a great business decision? You own a business and you let one of your most popular dividends leave. One of the fans' two favorite players. You replace that ultra popular person with ... nobody. What remains are a lot of unlikeable characters to go with some likeable ones (Paulie, Lexi for starters). Letting Mark go IMO was the dumbest business decision of all time. The Sox deserve lousy attendance after that IMO.

QUOTE (SI1020 @ May 25, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) It's not just here, elsewhere too it seems that every ex Sox player no matter how good or bad he was deserves to be savaged. It continues with Pods, who should be appreciated more than anything for his positive contributions. I'll never diss any player on that 05 team. It took 88 years to happen and now we're already up to 6 and counting without another one. Pods changed the whole dynamic of play from the all or nothing offense of 2001-04 that got the Sox nowhere. I wish him all the best. Me too. Great, great post. There's not one negative thought that comes to mind when I think of Pods. I feel like I'd be an ingrate all the joy he gave me.

Any doctors in the house??? My friend's wife just started chemo in Omaha for Grade One Non Hodgkin Follicular Lymphoma. She had some symptoms before going in for all the tests. She's now on six cycles of chemo one day every three weeks. rituximab is the drug provided. Oh yes, it's also been found in her bone marrow as well as the spleen. She worded it as "hiding" in her bone marrow. Anybody have any history with lymphoma? She was always healthy and fit before this hit. Just a bit concerned naturally and wondered if anybody had any prognosis, etc? Thank u doctors.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 25, 2012 -> 03:11 PM) For 2010, according to Forbes, the team showed a $26million profit. In 2011 they again showed a profit according to Forbes. In fact only three teams showed loses in 2011. Tigers (won division), Mets (sucked), and Red Sox (90 wins). I'd rather be the Tiger's fan winning a division than losing the division but knowing the owners made a few million bucks profit. So what's that done for our Sox? Flexibility to land an aging out of position fill-in 3rd baseman while MB is pitching in Florida? That's something the fans will come out to see. I understand looking for something to feel good about this season. If it's performance to the balance sheet that gets you excited, cool. But I'm just not that excited about returns in someone else's portfolio. I haven't seen years of profits directly leading to years of winning. Hopefully the Sox learned a lesson with the Buehrle fiasco. Think of how many fans just gave up on their season tix last winter (LOTS) when the team didn't sign Mark. Lots of ill will there. Remember how bad a season Dunn and Rios had? Fans were asked to buy tickets for a franchise that would pay those 2 and not pay Mark. Fans on the southside can't be fooled. Letting Mark walk was a BAD business decision.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 25, 2012 -> 01:42 PM) My nephew is 10 and he loves to sit back, relax and strap it down. I think Hawk appeals to a lot more people than a lot of this board realizes. Obviously correct. Nice post. This board is overall very negative in regarding to a lot of things White Sox. Example: Blasting Hawk a lot and even a guy like Pods just for making the Red Sox in the MLB thread. You think average White Sox fans off this message board dislike Pods AT ALL? Uh, no. I'd venture to say anybody you ask would have good things to say about Pods and Hawk.

My god we play the Indians again tonight? This is a big series for this time of year. Tribe has to start falling in the standings before the months fly by.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) Some things never make sense. Prepping for pulled hamstring. So now what did Pods do to piss our fanbase off? My god ... some of your mamas never gave you the speech: "If you have nothing good to say about somebody, maybe it's wise to say nothing at all." I'm all for criticism, but the guy deserves praise just for making it back to the big leagues. And he was a damn fine player for the White Sox.

Dropped Humber from my fantasy team. He's still pretty good but not stat wise anymore. Jinx of perfect game?
-
QUOTE (sunofgold @ May 25, 2012 -> 05:55 AM) Offense was great tonight. Pitching wasn't. But heck it is kinda nice to win a slugfest. Offense is working. Good way to put it. It was nice to win a slugfest at home. Real enjoyable.

Is Miami's stadium indoor? Retractible roof? Please tell me most games are played with the roof open? I hate domes. Ozzie does too.
-
Cleveland is for real.

Good win. Hopefully this signals the start of winning some series at home during the upcoming summer months. The Tank is mighty likeable. Nice HR. He's gonna have a lot of at bats this season, health permitting, since he doesn't walk much. Rios with a good game. Paulie is so good it's scary.
-
Nice win. We know one thing. Twins are the worst team in the AL this year. Royals have a much better team than Minnie.
-
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 25, 2012 -> 12:26 AM) No, because Paulie doesn't absolutely suck at his job. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 25, 2012 -> 12:32 AM) Where are you originally from in Chicago and how did you wind up in Lawrence? 1.) Hawk doesn't suck at his job, either. Cmon. He's entertaining which is more than you can say for most of the clowns on other teams' broadcasts. 2.) I am from Mt. Greenwood, went to Queen of Martyrs then Brother Rice, played basketball and baseball. Came out this way for college, moved and returned later for work. Used to hate the Royals, but now I feel sorry for them and enough is enough and I wouldn't mind them winning if the Sox can't. I don't root for them, though. Just don't care enough to do that. Don't like the Chiefs either.
-
I like all the runs. This is how the Twins used to kick the Sox ass. Just keep putting runs on the Sox and piling it on.
-
Tank with a blast. Wow. towering.
-
I kind of like Crain this year. He's not bad at all.
-
Sox bring the lumber out tonight against this bad Twins team. I'll take it. Loved that DeAza blast.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2012 -> 09:58 PM) Dude, if Sox fans weren't allowed to blast Harry Carry in the 90's because he was with them 2 decades beforehand, then I crossed a whole lot of lines. I'm just saying it's crazy and petty that sox fans on a Sox message board are blasting Hawk Harrelson. The guy may be the face of our franchise now that he is gone. This would be like blasting Paulie. It makes no sense and just seems anti-Chicago. The greatest city in the world and yet Sox fans (some of them) are blasting this legend in this thread. Weird. I just figure out of respect it should be in the filibuster area. Also, Hawk isn't leaving anytime soon, God willing health wise, and it seems dumb to arbitrarily blast him all season long (from now on if this threat lives).
