Thanks to whomever mocked Cleveland the other night after the game one win. That was real smart. Yes I believe in jinxes. Sox owned the final two games of series. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2012 -> 01:06 AM) 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... Coming soon, a new PHT thread "Danks' contract the worst for a White Sox pitcher since Jake Peavy or Jaime Navarro, KW must go!" Who cares? Why are you becoming a curmudgeon of the board? -

Ugh. Sox getting boatraced at home again. Lift and pull time. Hit some home runs soon. -

Looks like Dunn has truly put last year behind him. He has had enough at bats for proof he is much better than a year ago if not the old Dunn. Paulie officially in a little slump? -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2012 -> 04:34 AM) Why does this make me think of Sam Worthington in one of those "Titans" movies? Release the Kraken on Reinsdorf!!! Do it. Now!! Shakes fists at the heavens and curses at God like Captain Dan in Forrest Gump from the top of the mast. BTW, we still haven't won a game all season in which we've scored 3 runs or less. How come everybody ignores my comment that the only way Sox can win a home game is to blast multi home runs and get excellent starting pitching? I'll shut up and stop posting that if at least one person gives their take.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 2, 2012 -> 11:28 PM) Ah, so the tenured writer backs up his coworker and it is ok. So again, if someone insults you among many other people on this site, and cites a wrestling "heel" persona as the reason, you are ok with that? QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2012 -> 12:52 AM) So, Greg, there's a member here who we won't name but who has a tendency to attack/mock/deride General Manager Kenny Williams at all turns (hint, his member name has a number the same as Kirby Puckett)....would you consider his posting style to be typical of a "fake internet persona" that was fabricated just for fun and to get our goats or can you actually distinguish that person's "real" writing style, true intentions and not the one they may or may not be projecting here at SoxTalk? Is that a practical and easy thing to do, to ascertain what's truly in someone's meaning when they write or post? Better yet, when you watch Entourage with your family, can you help them to distinguish between him in real life, him acting like he's performing in real life but is actually on a t.v. show and his stand-up performance routines? When does one line end and the other begin? Easy to see which is which? You can't understand why some might be confused, too? 1.) I'd be OK with it if we knew they had that persona all the time. I can't think of anybody on the site that does that, so I guess I'd be mad if that person was mocking/ridiculing me, etc. 2.) I still think you are crazy. I blast KW some, but I do not attack/mock/deride KW at all times. I said I preferred Ozzie to win the mano a mano fight between the two, but my guy lost. I accepted that as well. Yes I will blast Kenny when I can but give me a break. I think any reasonable person would see Cowley's punishment is perfect. He's been told to basically knock it off. Why fire a talented guy who has gotten a lot of scoops just because he was playing a dangerous game on Twitter. Finally somebody noticed the crap he's been tweeting and now he's been told to knock it off. Now, the game he'll play I predict is "how dull can joe cowley be on twitter?" He'll do what all the writers do, just give a few facts during games, a lot of play by play, maybe a toned down opinion or two. Big brother has ruined his fun so he done. -
QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:07 AM) This whole night proves that the bullpen is paper-thin without Crain available. There just isn't an easy way to maneuver through 3 innings. Starters really need to go 7 for the pen right now. If Humber would have gotten hit around in the 6th everyone on here would have been completely irate that he even came out to start the inning with his 6 walks and unsharp stuff. Well...he got through it without allowing a run, and no one said anything. I just think that we all need to understand that right now the Sox only have two guys who can be trusted out of the bullpen. And we can't just pitch Thornton and Reed everytime its a close game. Other guys have to step up. Will Ohman stepped up tonight. He got through 1.2 innings without allowing a run...yes, RV mismanaged the 8th, but I'll be honest with you, I didn't have all that big of a problem with Ohman starting the 8th. This thing had extra's written all over it...the Sox showed no signs of being able to push a run across, and I'm sure RV was just trying to get through another frame without having to turn to Thornton or Reed. Very true. I'm surprised Humber got through the sixth. I really don't like the Sox chances on nights they do not hit home runs and on nights the starters leave after six. No way in hell that bullpen can go unscathed thru three innings except on rare occasions. Would be nice to beat pathetic teams at home. As long as we win the series I'll be pleased. If we lose the series, what a joke.

Pathetic performance after the game was tied at 3. Clutch hit by Lexi, then miserable baseball. Love losing games at home. Love that .500 mark.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:45 AM) Which Greg are you tonight? The unhappy camper version? Darned White Sox, 5-8, at home!!! BOO!! Why would any fans come out and support this crapfest? Ozzie Guillen would have deftly managed through the 7th and 8th and led the Sox to victory, etc. Ozzie Guillen will make the Hall of Fame after his managerial career is over since we provided so much on the job training here in Chicago...whereas Ventura's lucky to make the Oklahoma State Hall of Fame. You are crazy. I haven't said a word about Robin's managing tonight or any night.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:39 AM) All around bad night on the mound this evening...it happens s*** happens every other day when you are a .500 team which is the Sox destiny.
-
That sucked big time. I know you can't bunt with Paulie, but at that stage of the game it woulda been nice to have runner on second and one out. Or Paulie coulda lashed a single to center. I hate losing. 4-3 entering the 9th.
-
Tomlin is pitching pretty well. Can we put up a crooked number eventually?
-
If Beckham is told to play that deep, there's a good chance somebody is gonna hit a rocket in the spot that rocket was hit. Gordo ... cmon, that hurt. Shoulda dove.
-
Beckham still shoulda had that one. Too bad Humber couldn't make it through his last half inning. 1-0 lead woulda been nice.
-
We gonna need a long reliever tonight. He gawn after this half inning?
-
Humber makes a lot of good pitches n a lot of bad ones. Pretty good No. 5 starter? DP ... nice.
-
I have no idea if this is true or not, but Dunn looks to me like he truly did lose a little bit of weight and it has worked wonders. I've seen him hit pitches this year no way he'd have touched last year. Easy explanation is Ozzie/Walker are gone and he likes Manto, but I still think it's part the weight issue.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 3, 2012 -> 01:58 AM) And something about him just tells me he's soft. And Gordon's finish on his swing is about the ugliest thing I've seen in baseball. Yeah that at bat was so bad. He didn't even watch the ball. I wonder if he's a mental midget. Last night shoulda sparked him. I mean at least don't strike out.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 2, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) Greg, if someone insulted you personally on this website repeatedly and when confronted by an admin, claimed it was their "wrestling personality" and they were a good guy, would you accept that? See, it depends if the poster had the wrestling persona all the time. Cowley as was stated by Telander thought his followers got it, got his persona. I think what happened is the right thing. They told him to cut it out. He killed his twitter account. It'll return and he'll post dull comments during games. His little twitter game is over. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 2, 2012 -> 04:48 AM) That does it. Greg thinks I am "slimy" and Cowley is his new hero in lieu of any Ozzie controversy. Shouldn't his name be officially adjusted to Cowley Fan Club, Ozzie Fan Club OR Ozzie/Cowley fan club? Especially since his other hero Rongey has disappeared for the time being. I said I liked you, I just disagree with this. You aren't the first to do it. A lot of people think it's fine. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 2, 2012 -> 05:45 AM) Greg, you're not a real person. You don't think it's rotten to send somebody an email and print his response on a message board? And I like caufield, no disrespect meant. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 2, 2012 -> 04:22 AM) Greg, c'mon. Live in the real world. There's no such thing as "off the record" when a random person from China sends you an e-mail. If anything, his response was meant to be shared...although I can certainly e-mail him and ask if he'd like to have it taken down, lol. He's never seemed like that kind of a writer or person. I even said I was a frequent poster at a White Sox-related message board. It's not like I was pretending to be a lawyer for a random female Asian HR worker at the Sun-Times who was threatening a fake lawsuit just to get a reaction from him! Everything a professional writer does is for public consumption unless he requests otherwise. The whole purpose of what he wrote was to defuse the tension and make Cowley more sympathetic, correct? I just thought it was kind of slimy to print his personal response to you on a public message board w/out telling him. That's all. You did tell him you were a poster on a board, so that's probably sufficient. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 2, 2012 -> 03:48 AM) Here's the response I received...a little bit of a surprise, but maybe not as much vitriol for Cowley in the newsroom as there was for Mariotti. Joe is a good guy who made a mistake--and I think that's how most people see it. He felt that others were in on the joking and smack talk (pro wrestling kind of blabber) with him--a kind of club on the Internet, if you will. Now he knows. Now he will be who he is. I appreciate your concern, and I'm glad you care enough to write to the S-T about it. We're all going to try harder to be better here. All of us. Thanks much--Rick Telander See? I was right. That is what Cowley was doing, the wrestling persona. That was a great reply from Telander. I like you caufield, but I wonder if what you did here isn't slimy. Telander prolly didn't want you posting his response for the world to see. He was nice enough to send u a response and you show it to the world. Just my take on that. Guys ... Cowley thought his followers knew his schtick. Now he knows better. Case closed. Slap on wrist. His posts I'm sure will be dull as hell from now on. He'll do the bare minimum of play by play from the games w/no opinion since people can't handle his Dice Clay act.
