  1. I'd have worded it "Before the Cards traded GT for OS - in 1982." BOOMER!
  2. Begging the question of why is he still a 'prospect' at this stage of his career?
  3. I don't doubt his potential. I doubt his ability to realize that talent. Injuries and start-stop continuity i.e. never getting into and sustaining a groove aside, he might need to connect with the right hitting coach or even the right (different) team to get going. Would he be a different hitter with the Astros? The Braves?
  4. I'd say it's pretty clear that he cannot play ML caliber 2nd base. He may make a play here and there and even have a good game or two, but not something a contender is going to rely on. The notion reminds me of KW's moves of bringing in an end-of-career player to get a blaze of glory in their final days. A last hurrah! Not the same thing as the Cards bringing in Pujols; that's a different case altogether. There are only so many roster spots available, this is a ridiculous idea. Maybe the Pad's can make something of him, but the Sox have no business getting into the Cano brand.
  5. 'Despite popular misconception, ostriches do not stick their heads in the sand. This myth originated in ancient Rome and is so pervasive that it's used as a common metaphor for someone avoiding their problems. It's thought that this belief began after observing ostriches nesting and being stalked by predators.' Aug 20, 2017 https://www.mcgill.ca › oss › article › did-you-know › ost...
  6. Microdosing what? PEDs? LSD? lol
  7. If anything, I think Center. It might take awhile to settle into it, but the precedent is there. e.g. Robin Yount et al. Baez does both 2nd and SS well, but he's an exception. I haven't looked at the numbers. Is Semien excelling at 2nd?
  8. From a guy that was known for not hitting batters: " A pitcher that doesn't go hard and inside isn't doing his job. I attack hitters." Sandy Koufax
  9. I don't know about targeting the head, but going hard and well inside is part of the game - right?
  10. Yeah, but a player's self-evaluating might not be much smarter than self-medicating.
  11. I stand by my stating that Kopech did his job. In the game as it is played today, starters are only infrequently called on to go more than 6 innings and even then it is becoming rare to see starters going 100 pitches. Gio might very well 'do his job' tonight and the Sox still take a loss if the team can't put an entire game together. <--- A fan of signing both Graveman and Kelly in the off-season. Now if we could find a peak Andrew Miller we'd be well ahead of the game. ReyLo?
  12. I don't know that TA is all that, however: "A man's judgment is best when he can forget himself and any reputation he may have acquired and can concentrate wholly on making the right decisions." ADM Ray Spruance In today's media/mass communication driven world, it's awfully easy to be swallowed by hype. As easy as slipping on a banana peel.
  13. I sang this song all off-season. There is no reason whatsoever to expect Grandal to be able to crouch more than 100 times in a season. He's into his 30's and has lower body problems- it is to be expected. Any number of very good catchers have developed leg issues as they got into their 30's. It's a position of wear and tear - Yadis' and Pudges' don't grow on trees. I'd say Yaz projects well at 80-90 games at 2, DH'ing 50-60 games. Which in turn complicates the DH slot even further than what it is now.
  14. If Moncada is still glomming on Twinkies, what is Eloy's jonez? Big Baby Ruths? Bwwwahhhaaaaa - I slay me.
  15. Do we even know what Colas and Cespedes look like in the field? The reports are that they both have plus arms, at least in terms of strength, but what about the rest? Cespedes' brother had a big-time arm, but was a run-of-mill fielder otherwise.
  16. Kopech against the Yankees will at least be interesting.
  17. So maybe Moncada does have a little rust to shake off. Maybe TA needs a better rangefinder on his 'cannon' of an arm.
  18. Better Call Saul off to a slow start - but not as slow a start as Pollock.
  19. A more representative number would start with PA resulting in AB (to include the percentage value of that computation), from which a batting average can be computed. I'd like to see a league average number or ranking listed as well. I'll get right to work on it.
  20. Yes I see that, but without defining that parameter the resulting number is a very narrow representation of what occurs by the pitch-count. By limiting the results to batted ball in play the results simply don't represent the full outcome of each pitch that a batter faces.
  21. In considering AB vs PA the graph is counter-intuitive to the point of not making sense. Every PA begins at 0-0. A more sensible number would indicate and include all first pitch results.
  22. Maybe TLR giving the rook his tryout to not get sent down. In a one-run game, on the road and in a game we need.
