  1. Mariners must have known something about this if they signed Guardado. I found it hard to believe that he wanted to be a set-up man after the success he had closing in Minnesota. I know I remember reading a month or so ago that there was a possibility that Sasaki wouldn't return, but I forgot where I read it. Nonetheless, I think Guardado is better for the Mariners in the long run. Seems to me that Sasaki was getting hurt an awful lot last year.
  2. Here's a statement from the kid on his website: I received an email from Smart & Biggar, Microsoft's Canadian lawyers, informing me that I have been committing copyright infringement against Microsoft. They told me that I must transfer my domain name over to Microsoft as soon as possible. I was baffled by this email, yet thought it was funny at the same time. Microsoft was going after a 17 year olds part time business that he put a lot of time into just because it has the same phonetic sound as their company. I responded to this email saying that I was not ready to give up my domain name since I had put so much time and effort into establishing my name, getting my business cards out and posting my services on the Internet. If I were to give up my domain, I would lose all the time and effort I had put into it. I requested that they offer me a settlement of some sort to help with me losing my business. A few days later I received an email back from them telling me that they would give me all of my out-of-pocket expenses for the domain name, which came to be $10USD. I was surprised that they would offer such a little amount of money to persuade me to hand my domain over to Microsoft. In response to this recent email, I sent one back to them describing how much work I have put into my business and that the domain was worth at least $10000. They refused to give me anything more than $10USD so I proceeded to ignore their most recent email. I didn't hear anything from them after their last email. Yesterday, January 14, I received a package from the lawyers' office FedEx Priority Overnight. Inside I found a book over an inch thick with a 25 page letter explaining to me that I had all along had the intention to sell my domain name to Microsoft for a large cash settlement. This is not the case, I never thought my name would cause Microsoft to take this course of action against me. I just thought it was a good name for my small part-time business. In this letter it explains that Microsoft's customers could get confused between my page and theirs, which doesn't make any sense since Microsoft doesn't design websites. They do, however, sell a program called Microsoft FrontPage, which they say can cause some confusion between me making websites for my customers and them selling a program to make websites to their customers. I think it is just another example of a huge corporation just trying to intimidate a small business person (and only a 17 year old student at that) to get anything they want by using lawyers and threats. It reminds me of the Starbucks thing against the little coffee shop in the Queen Charlotte Islands.
  3. Check this out, it's the last cached view of the site, according to Google: http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:FSp2EjI...&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
  4. What I don't understand is why they even care...He's not in competition with them. Now if he was using his site to sell computer related material, I could see their point.

  6. Mariners shouldn't be too devastated, they've still got Guardado.
  7. Heads always does his best to protect his mods. Thank ya Mr. Heads... :fthecubs
  8. I'll keep that in mind...But my hunch says you won't be around long.
  9. I realize that a lot of the posters are young and haven't been around here long. However, I, like many around here, get somewhat tired of seeing the same threads resurface over and over everyday. Please look at some of the other threads already started and contribute to those before starting another thread which is essentially the same as 300 others that have already been started. Thank you.
  10. If the Sox gave Albert Belle a five-year, 55 million dollar deal, they can surely step up their deal to Maggs. Not that they actually paid all of that money out to Belle (he left after 2 seasons due to a special clause in his contract), but I think for the sake of fan morale, they've gotta do something drastic to keep Ordonez.
  11. The thing about the deal the Cardinals are offering to Pujols is that they're somewhat low balling him. He's got 3 yrs of service, so he can walk in 3 more. What they are offering is 2 yrs beyond that line at a discounted rate. He could head to arbitration and make good money for 3 years and then walk. I bet the Cardinals will have to step up their offer considerably for those extra 2 seasons or Albert will take his chances in arbitration and test the market in 3 seasons.
  12. Interested to know what you believe it will take to keep Ordonez in a Sox uni beyond this season. I'd say 5 years and 65 million would be fair, but i don't know whether he'd take that or not.
  13. The Tigers are being used. Pudge is going to ride this out as long as possible. If no one steps up with anything, he'll go to Detroit. But I imagine someone will step up with something.
  14. Just found this from ESPN, they had this on Friday on Benson: BRADENTON, Fla. -- Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Kris Benson threw off a mound Friday for the first time since July, then pronounced himself healed from the shoulder injury that cut short his 2003 season. "I'm 100 percent, no doubt about it," Benson said. Benson, the Pirates' opening day starter last season, threw 30 fastballs -- the same workload as the other pitchers attending the team's annual January minicamp. "My shoulder felt great," Benson said. "I didn't have any type of problems at all. I felt strong enough to keep going. I was throwing nice and easy and the ball was coming out easily. I couldn't have asked for more for my first time off the mound."
  15. Let's also remember the Todd Ritchie trade. We gave up a lot for a pitcher that was well....It's not really appropriate to say here. Anyhow, I don't see the Pirates giving up Benson up for next to nothing but I could be wrong. And if they do, his salary will be enough for the Sox not to want him beyond next season. I believe he made around 4.3 million last year. That's a lot for a guy that's never really proven anything at the major league level.
  16. Steff with connections? Not a chance. I'll be interested to see what else you dig out of that for us Steff. Thanks for the info. Look forward to meeting the doable one at Soxfest.
  17. Just to state my opinion on the case: You obey the laws of the land you're in. For example, you're from Amsterdam, where smoking marijuana is totally legal. Does that mean you can come to the US and smoke marijuana in the streets without punishment? No. Therefore, if this American ass clown did something disrespectful according to the law of the country (Brazil) he was in, he should be punished. Case closed.
