  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 19, 2010 -> 02:17 AM) His attitude = losing, no matter how talented he is. Is that why the Marlins have had winning records and grossly outperformed expectations the last few years?
  2. Good for him, he was always a class act. And good for me having the foresight to pick him up last week
  3. QUOTE (Mattchoo @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:14 AM) I would love the White Sox to go get Hanley Ramirez. Probably no way we could acquire him due to not having enough pieces they'd want. Edit: Here is his current contract # 6 years/$70M (2009-14) * signed extension with Florida 5/17/08 * 09:$5.5M, 10:$7M, 11:$11M, 12:$15M, 13:$15.5M, 14:$16M I wonder if the Marlins can afford it in the later years. Weren't they trying to get a new baseball stadium? It opens in 2012. It's in a better area and has a retractable roof. They are banking on those factors as well as it being an actual baseball stadium to draw fans. Loria has also pledged to spend more once the stadium opens. If the Marlins have financial problems it will be at the end of Hanley's deal anyways. Acquiring him is a pipe dream. He is as untouchable a player you will find in baseball.
  4. QUOTE (Tex @ May 18, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) Yep, I only need to apply to 97 school districts covering eight different counties. I don't consider Texas as "The South".
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) Sounded like a solid effort by Freddy and the Mendoza bunch today. Glad to see it. Well played
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 18, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) How about stringing a few wins in a row instead of sucking right after a nice win? Is that too much to ask? Especially since we won't miss Josh Johnson this weekend.
  7. Phil Coke's new picture on gameday reminds me of Bobby Higginson
  8. Nice game from Quentin. He (and we) really needed that.
  9. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 18, 2010 -> 02:49 PM) quality start by fred Can't ask for more out of a 5th starter than he's given us so far this year.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 18, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Freddy at 92 pitches. It's obvious he won't go more than 7 at most, if that. Who pitches the 8th and 9th with Thornton out? Jenks will pitch the 9th, so I'd use Putz in the 8th, Pena in the 7th and have Santos ready to go if needed in the 9th for Jenks.
  11. Freddy got out of it. I'd run him out there for one more then hopefully our pen can close it out for 3 innings.
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 18, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) if there's a downside to Austin Jackson, I don't know what it is. His strikeouts are a bit high, but based on his minor league career and age it's sure to come down
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 18, 2010 -> 02:10 PM) Alright, White Sox!!!! The great thing about Porcello? He's doesn't strike anybody out. Strikeouts havent really been an issue for us though. One of the few things this team does have going for them.
  14. QUOTE (pktmotion @ May 18, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) If I'm not mistaken it was a matter of a few million or a second year of deferred money in order to get Damon to come to the Sox. Teahen will make $4.75 in 2011 and $5.5 in 2012, money that could've been deferred to Damon if we had gone year for year with Teahen. We overpaid two years in order to save a few hundred thousands for the first year; $3.75(2010 salary) - $3.85(estimated arb raise). Believe whatever you want but $2.5M over 3 years was not the difference between us signing Damon and not.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 18, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) You learn a new term every day on Soxtalk. Seriesly.
  16. QUOTE (pktmotion @ May 18, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) You know the trade wasn't that bad, considering Teahen is hitting below his career norms and the fact we didn't give up much to get him. But the glaring mistake is restructuring his deal for 3/$14 Mil rather than going year for year. It basically handcuffs you if he struggles, which is the case know. You can't trade him, you can bench him and make him an overpaid utility man; and most importantly the money that was used for the deal could've gone to get Damon or someone else the Sox were looking at but didn't have the financial flexibility to do so. That's completely false.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) Please point out your extensive criticism of his exaggeration of his military service to me. Please point out my extreme criticism in this situation. Also, while at it, please point out my defense of the Bush situation. Please do. And finally, i'd also like you to point out your extreme criticism of this Democrat for me as well. Thank you.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) Does anyone realize the Yankees used more different lineups last year than the White Sox did? No because it hurts the "everything is Ozzie's fault" argument.
  19. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 18, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) Anybody wanna take bets that we don't score again in this game? You've said it three times in different ways already. We get it.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) Question: would you rather our team have an offensive outburst and score 6 or 7 runs to save Greg Walker's job, or would you rather the offense continue to slump this week and see a change made? I'd rather our offense score however many runs it was necessary to win the game on that given day, whether it's 1 or 20.
  21. What a promising looking inning right into the s***ter.
