  1. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) The Dutch are the wild cards for mine. If Van Persie gets back to his early season form for Arsenal and Robben is 100% healthy, I could easily see them win it all. Ya but ESPN put it brilliantly; the Dutch are the Buffalo Bills of International soccer. They will never win anything.
  2. I'd love to see Danks start limiting his pitch counts. This would have been a fun game to see him finish out.
  3. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) It all starts tomorrow, not sure if I should watch the opening game or be at the Hawks parade, then you have Sox - Cubs. What a day tomorrow is going to be. Any predictions on tomorrow? South Africa - Mexico Uruguay - France I think Uruguay is going to expose France tomorrow. Also think Mexico will squeak past a very spirited South Africa team 2-1 Uruguay 1-0 Mexico
  4. So Vizquel has an RBI via HR and an RBI via squeeze bunt in the same game. Wonder when the last time that happened.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) Yup. Hat tip to justBLAZE in the game thread for the link. So ya, as you said he's just stating what pretty much any veteran from any team would say. Hurray for waiting before overreacting!
  6. The Sox have hit two home runs in their last two innings. Omar Vizquel and Brent Lillibridge.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 02:00 PM) Where in NM? If he's in the Bootheel area, I may have run into him. I've talked with a few of those guys down there, when we hiked that segment of the Continental Divide Trail. Not sure exactly, havent talked to him since he was home a few months ago. Obviously it's in the southwest of the state. He was just transferred there a few months ago. He was in Yuma, Arizona before that so when I visited another friend of ours in Lake Havasu last year he was able to come up for a couple days.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 12:31 PM) Its easy to sit in an ivory tower and take pot shots at the people doing the protecting of this country. Most of us don't have the stones to do what they do, and have no idea what they face or deal with on a daily basis. A friend of mine does border patrol work in New Mexico. They put up with a lot of s***.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 11:42 AM) So did anyone see who Keith Law said had the worst second day of the draft? That's right, KW and the Sox. Did KW run over Keith Law's puppies or something? Isn't it from something dating back to Toronto?
  10. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) Did you know ...Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is the longest word in the dictionary and is a lung disease caused by Quartz in the air? (obviously a minors disease) .. Floccinaucinihilipilification - longest non technical word. It means the act or habit of describing or regarding something as worthless. Anatidaephobia - the fear that you are being watched by a duck.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) In fact, I was thinking... look at the 5 remainder schools: KU, K-State, Iowa State, Missouri, Baylor. The Kansas schools and Missouri are pretty serious basketball programs, Iowa State was too until recent years, and Baylor suddenly is making some noise. If you can pull in say one or two of the stronger WAC and Conf USA Schools, you could have a pretty damn good basketball conference. UTEP, UNLV, Memphis, BYU, UAB. Not a power conference but it would have 2 major players and 3 or 4 legit teams every year. Better than the SEC.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 09:50 AM) Half sarcasm, half cold reality. Well whoever grabs Kansas and K-State immediately improves their basketball quality and prestige.
  13. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) I say "cool beans" all the time ..and "awesome 'possum" ..I should grow out of that soon ...right?!?! Out of the second one absolutely
  14. QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Americans didn't have much of a problem when Irish Catholics were throwing rocks at British soldiers occupying their neighborhoods. Strange... Yes, strange that they wouldnt care about something happening across the Atlantic in the same way they care about something happening on their own border. Baffling even.
  15. And we all know all those other people would never dare do such a thing...
  16. Ok so it may not be lethal, but would being bombarded with rocks large enough to cause permanent damage to say, your eye(s), be enough justification for retaliation? Or is vision loss not a big enough deal?
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) Look at this in the greater context of this year, On the 5th of the month, Ozzie said this to Merkin, "I respect the scouts' opinion about how low or how high they have my kid." He would later say to KW "Don't feel any pressure about him being my kid," Ozzie said. "Whatever team out there thinks he's good enough for them, that's fine with me." He would couch that by asking the organization not draft his kid as favor to him but on talent alone. Now on the 8th we get, ""Obviously, it's a disappointment," said the White Sox manager … shortly after his son was selected." Despite, Guillen’s admission to not having talked to “anyone involved with the Draft to see where their projections had Ozney slotted. “ Ozzie felt the need to talk through both sides of his mouth here, "I saw him play, and it surprised me that he [fell] that far before getting picked," Guillen said of his son. "I know baseball a little bit. This kid has a good future as long as he doesn't get hurt. ...” This seems fair to me, he is the kids’ father after all. I’d be disappointed too, but he doesn’t let it lye there, “Twenty-second round? Anybody can go 22nd round," Guillen said. "I respect the scouts' opinion with all my heart. I hope the 20 guys they pick before [Ozney] help us or help the White Sox ... But I'm a baseball man. I saw him play, and I saw him compete against a lot of people out there and I think this kid -- it might help him to improve himself. “ This is an interesting section here. We have Ozzie couching his comments with, "i respect the scouts' opinions" while saying that what they thought about his kid was wrong (in his baseball experiences) He finishes this off with saying that Ozney should use this as an incentive to improve himself. Which is exactly right, and is what he should have been saying all along. “I think the 22nd round in high school doesn't mean anything. I think the White Sox did what I told them ...” Ozzie is trying to say in the most diplomatic fashion possible, that the White Sox scouts were wrong. He'll say later that they pretty much dicked him over. Despite, Ozzie's admission that the White Sox simply did what he told them, he goes on to say that the drafting was a slap in the face, and that he’d pay Ozney the sighing bonus he would have received NOT to sign with the White Sox. Ozzie approached this from two ways, as a good point of adversity for Ozney and as an attack on the Guillen Family, by the White Sox organization. You can’t have it both ways. In the article from above? No he didnt.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 10:33 PM) So, it turns out that Ozzie actually was really upset that Ozney fell. This coming from a guy who said that we shoudn't draft the kid as a favor to him. It's not a surpise to see how his children behave, when he himself acts like a hypocritical child. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...-usf-bound.html Did you read the article? Ok, his son was drafted about 10 rounds later than they, and many scouts, thought he might be. That's understandable they'd be a little disappointed. How inflammatory! Seriously, what is wrong with that statement? Disappointment does not equate to anger. He even admits to people having varying opinions. As is the case with a lot of young players. Seriously, what is with this getting pissed off just for the sake of getting pissed off lately. (I'm not saying it's just you btw.)
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) I love how they promoted Stanton to make his MLB debut against Strasburg who is making his. That is awesome. I'll be watching for sure. The Marlins are in Philly tonight
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) Thats my point, we go for the guys who will sign for cheap again over the guys that add value to the system. This is a fine philosophy if you are saving the money to make a splash elsewhere which remains to be seen. He was rated as a top 40 talent that we got in the mid 60's, I just have a hard time getting all up in arms over that.
  21. Beating the Cubs is always fun, even if the excitement only lasts for a weekend. And I dont even live in Chicago.
  22. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:05 AM) I dotn know why, but my dad seemed to think (when she first went missing) that Halloway was sold into sex slavery. NO idea where he heard/read that. Well that dutch undercover reporter guy apparently accused him of trying to find girls in Thailand for the very same purpose a year or so ago.
