QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 11:29 AM) Yes, because if Jayson Nix is know for anything it's his "mediocre to poor defense." At the position he'd be filling in for? Yup.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:30 AM) Mark Gonzalez seems to think the Sox face a dilemma in picking Ozney Guillen. I tend to disagree. We either get him or we don’t: it’s not the end of the world. I just hope we don’t pick him too high. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6114163.story I see what he's saying. If he truly is a 5-10 round player, and say he's there in the 8th round (due to signability concerns or whatever) and the Sox think he's a good fit at that spot and draft him I'm sure it would open them up for criticism, deserved or not. I think that's what he's getting at. I think it'd be interesting if any discussion of such ever occurs and we get to see it in the tv show though.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 31, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) What's the TV schedule going to be for this? South AFrica 6 hours ahead? QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 11, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) Also, for reference, South Africa is 6 hours ahead of EST so it's 7 hours ahead of those of you in the CTZ. Original post -

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ May 29, 2010 -> 04:17 PM) I don't know a lot about soccer, but the defense looks terrible (got better in the 2nd half, but still). Offense looked dangerous though. It's not great. If Gooch regains his form he and DeMerit are solid on the interior (remember the Spain game) and Bocanegra is usually reliable on the outside but the left back spot between Spector, Cherundulo and Bornstein is weak. -

Well the USA just beat Turkey 2-1. Much, much better second half. Torres just booked a spot in the starting 11. He was fantastic in every facet of the game today. Findley surprised too, he was dangerous. Gooch was much better than last game too so that was good to see. And Bornstein was just terrible, I hope we dpont see him in South Africa at all. -

Essien out of World Cup Wow. Absolute death blow to Ghana. With their mid-field I really thought they could have done some damage in this tournament. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2010 -> 09:33 AM) Santos pitched only 20 innings last year in the minors, then onto Fall League. His arm needs to be used very carefully. That's why I don't like the idea of him in the closer role, this year (although maybe next year). I'd go by committee of Thornton/Putz depending on match-ups and rest. One can set up for the other if they are both rested. Agreed. We may have found a diamond in the rough here with him. He's been pitching barely over a year and already has pretty good secondary stuff. He's got several prime seasons left and it'd be foolish to risk his arm now, IMO. True, he could also implode and never fulfill what appears to be a lot of potential but it's starting to look like he might be able to, and he'll be cheap for a while still also. I'd baby him and if we find ourselves in the thick of a pennant race and he's still dominant then maybe amp his workload up a bit. But for now, I'd take it easy with him.

Ideologically, are North and South Koreans much different? I'm not talking about the ruling elites but the average citizen. Obviously, those in the North have been subjected to much propaganda (ie. brainwashing) against the South (and the rest of the Western world), but are they much different? Would it even work to unite that country as one again?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Right now, I'm not sure what the strategic thought is on any side, although I hope it exists and has some coordination. Would China really be that badly off if the current South Korean government extended up to their border and they suddenly had a much more open trading partner there? I doubt it. OTOH, China seems excessively concerned about a refugee crisis in that area. I would think China would welcome it, even if they don't publicly state it. I think China likes there being another Communist nation in their neighborhood but I'd have to think if SK was able to "take over" the North and merge that country into one again, they could grow their booming economy even more.

This random but i just remembered it. I flipped on baseball tonight last night for about 3 minutes and saw the web gems and apparently the way they measure the daily winner is on the "BuehrleMeter". Last night's winner got 4 out of 10 "Buehrles". I thought that was kinda funny.

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ May 26, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) Ching left out which I'm ok with, but the only thing i'm really confused about is Robbie Findley making the team. I dont know how that happened, I would have preferred Ching. Also, I'm very happy to see Gomez and Torres make this team, we're a lot better with both of them. Team pretty much as expected with the exception of Findley over Ching. Personally i feel that was a bad decision but we werent at training camp the past couple weeks. -
QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 26, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) Kotsay has been a beast for two weeks. His OPS for the month is north of .950

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 26, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) Honestly, are we the only team in the league with a manager dumb enough to bat Pierzynski 2nd? That's just beyond ridiculous right there. Would you rather Beckham, Ramirez or Teahen/Nix be the 2 hitter?

QUOTE (G&T @ May 25, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) So I am going to be driving from Albany, NY to Palos Park on Friday. This is a 13 hour drive. We are trying to figure out when the best time to leave is. The latest we will leave is 4 am, but we will get to northwest Indiana heading into Chicago at around 4pm on the Friday of Memorial day weekend. Anyone have any idea how bad the traffic will be? Will most people be heading the other way? Should we be leaving earlier? Thanks! Did that trip last year Labor Day weekend. Stayed in Michigan City though cuz the first day we went to a ND game. It was a pretty boring 12 hour drive. Never encountered any traffic problems anywhere.

QUOTE (zenryan @ May 25, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) If that isnt the last time Sacha takes the field for the national team then I will be pissed. Yes he looked awful. I also was disappointed with Holden and Bornstein. Loved what I saw out of Edu (minus his misplay in the last minute), he was all over the place and his versatility is a plus. Eddie Johnson looked lost to me. Beasley looked decent, I'd bring him but he'd be at the back of my bench. Liked what I saw out of Robbie Rogers and Edson Buddle. Herculez Gomez needs to be brought in, he's playing well right now and looked pretty decent last night. Overall wasn't a great night and a few players were disappointmemts but I also liked what I saw out of a few guys I hadnt seen in a while. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 24, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) Still, I bet Fatboy will dominate in the NL... especially if he goes to a contending team with good leadership like the Phillies. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 24, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) I bet if he goes to the Phillies and excels, he'll rip the Sox organization. He seems like that type of guy. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 24, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) He just needs a Dubee to set his mind right. Respectful.
