QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) Just that it's a different day promoting the history and ethnicity of another group and we seem to have little issue with people of all ages acknowledging it by wearing certain colors or by discussing related events in classes. Is it though? Seems as if it's mostly a day promoting drinking and parades (not unlike Cinco de Mayo). And for the record, I have no problem with either day. But I also have zero problem with what the students did as well.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) What about people wearing green on St. Patrick's Day? What about it?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2010 -> 01:34 PM) So, there's no benefit to American students to understand the history of other countries/cultures? Boy you just love doing that. Didn't say that. I highlighted the Mexican holiday part. That should have zero relevance to the previous poster's point about students wearing Mexican colors/flags/etc being seen in the same way. It's the equivalent of Americans wearing red, white and blue and american flags on July 4th in other countries. Why should that date have any significance to them? In fact, i'm sure it would go over real well in England.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) On an actual Mexican holiday? I'm sure Arizona has banned this, but one might think that would be an excellent teaching moment about the history of other cultures. In the United States of America...

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 24, 2010 -> 10:00 AM) It really is a million? I was just joking. I don't know but I think it does make the option year in 2012 kick in automatically for something like $17M, so that is kind of a deterrent I'd say.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 22, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) Ideally, you'd trade for Aramis Ramirez and Adam Dunn. But, Cantu would be cheaper and can play at 3B or 1B if needed. This is mostly a positive thinking thread. I'll leave the "how" of the acquisitions to KW. I don't think the Marlins would be willing to part with him in the foreseeable future.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2010 -> 11:40 AM) Where are you with a comment when I've written about 80-90% positive things about the White Sox the last 2-3 weeks? If you followed the minor league section, you would notice I've written many many positive statements about our minor leaguers, especially VICIEDO. In fact, I don't think there's another poster here besides CUBANO who has been more in his corner since the day that the White Sox signed him. IF there is, I'd like to know who it is... Dan and I as well as a couple others have been pretty vocal about supporting and defending him when he was getting ripped on last year and over the off season. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) I think you guys are missing a lot of the other negative consequences of your actions. No matter how good foster parents are, you're still ripping apart a family, which is traumatic for both children and parents on its own, and which of course in a lot of cases winds up correlating just as much with another generation of substance abuse, crime, and government interventions. You're hating doing anything that would give people a governmetn bailout, like health care or a roof over their heads, but what do you think is going to happen to those people when you put them out on the street? You're going to be footing an even larger bill for them once they get locked up in jail. You're talking about being much more aggressive in taking children away from parents, which is a very difficult thing for the government to do at any level, because having the government declare people unfit parents is a pretty major step. Heck, statistics show it also doesn't work, to a staggering degree All this because you feel angry about your money going to poor people. You just can't help yourself...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) Great. So where are you putting the kids? In that huge pool of foster families that are out there, right? So now the kids are getting bailed out by the government, the foster family is getting paid by the government to take them, and you're angry because your tax dollars are going to deal with other people's problems and because the kids are still being taught that the government will bail them out if they screw up. Ideally, and I'm aware this would not always be the case, but in that particular situation the hope would be the children receive proper motivation and support from the foster parents to have a succesful life and put themselves in the best possible situation to succeed and better their situations.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) So, yeah, your answer to what to do with that kid's children is to either take them away from their mother (which we're not allowed to do, you know, property rights) or tell them to get a job. No, I don't care if they're 5. After all, like Rand Paul says, Child Labor laws are an unconstitutional violation of the rights of private business. Yeah except for the fact that he said neither, but then your argument wouldnt work as well so I get why you do did that

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) The amazing thing is, you guys think that the lives people on government benefits live are so sweet. Yup. Amazing.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 21, 2010 -> 11:15 AM) Once again, Apple squanders a huge lead in the market (Note Apple's early computer dominance that was passed up by M$) I predict that by 2013 (if not sooner) Google will be the Apple of 2008-2009. They will be the "hip" company and Apple will be the one trying to catch back up. By the way, in my Apple fanboy opinion.... Android 2.2 just took big leap ahead of iPhone OS 4 which hasnt even been launched yet. EDIT: DOH!! You meant Pac-Man... my bad. Haha ya thats what I was referring to, i was wondering why you went off in that direction

FYI the Google is awesome right now

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 21, 2010 -> 01:42 AM) Which doesn't make him anything near a "cornerstone" When he was brought over he was viewed in that light. If you read what caulfield said carefully you would have noticed that. His signing was viewed as a key piece to a team trying to contend. The pitchers listed all had that in common, that is being an integral player for their team. Maya is not that. That was the point trying to be made, and he was right about it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) As always, it's ok if you're a Republican. Democrat makes a misleading statement about Vietnam war service? Could cost him the election. Republican makes misleading statemetn about his Gulf War service? Oh, he should just call himself a "Gulf War Era veteran".

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2010 -> 05:41 PM) What do you consider it? As Texas. But if I had to lump it in with a US geographical area i'd call it the mid-west. When I said the South I was thinking like the Arkansas/Tennessee/Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama/Georgia/North & South Carolina area.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 17, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Essien is still questionable. I know he's on the roster. Either way, I can't see him being 100% even if he plays. Even at 75% Michael Essien would be one of the top midfielders on any team. Looks like Australia is having concerns over Harry Kewell being fit so that could be another blow to a team in Serbia's group. Fabio Gross was the next big name to cut from his squad by the way. And the French are very concerned about William Gallas' availability now too.
