  1. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) he built it on aging arms. Although what the f*** is wrong with thornton i have no idea. Must just be a bad stretch. I thought I heard the Boston play by play guys say he's allowed only 3 runs over his last 17 IP???
  2. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) It's not reactionary. If anything it was worse because back then there was no limit to what we could say about other posters and players. You ever think that the negativity of this board has increased because maybe the number of members has increased since 2003? Six more years is going to bring a lot more posters. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?&a...only=&st=20 After the first two pages there are a lot of 2004, 2005 members. Partly. But a lot of those people ended up getting banned. Everything got real nice around here in late '04-'05 (surprise! haha) but I swear the past 3 or 4 months have been beyond ridiculous. There was a thread dedicated to Octavio Dotel sucking based on his second outing of SPRING TRAINING! I mean, come on.
  3. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) I'm starting to get real tired of Alex Rios. I'm starting to realize that he was put on waivers for a reason. Seasonal averages: .284 // 16 // 79 // 22 SB HE HAS 37 AT BATS HERE! 37! LIKE AS IN LESS THAN 40! 10 GAMES! Jesus christ people. I need to go to bed i can't read these posts anymore tonight
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 09:31 PM) I am pretty surprised to see Jonnie Lowe, Henry Mabee and Jacob Rasner on that list. I figured there would be other guys ahead of them. I'm surprised about Mabee too. I can see why Rasner would get an invite. Any big time pitching prospect is probably off the list due to limiting their innings pitched.
  5. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) I can only assume you attempt at acting like a baseball retard is a joke. If not, all I can say is the attitude existed on Soxtalk well before 2005. I was on this board towards the end of the 2003 season, and it was no different than now. Even in the fall of 2005 when the lead over Cleveland was shrinking many (including myself) were negative, yet they prevailed anyway. We make no difference. Don't kid yourself. Think about it for a minute before making a reactionary statement. I joined around when you did too. The negative attitude of this board has multiplied tenfold since mid-2006.
  6. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) As long as this attitude permeates the fan base, we will never win another world series. You can only hear "you suck" so many times before you buy into it and thats all this team heard all season long. With the attitude of our fan base, I'm amazed this team is over .500 as is.....they overperformed when you face the facts. However, if they were supported day in and day out, they would likely be 20-25 games over .500 at this time (and about ready to clinch a playoff spot) Ok, that is a ridiculous overstatement. I like your attitude and I agree with you about the negativity being tiresome and annoying, but that's just insane. What this board says and does has zero affect on the play of the players on the team.
  7. Here's another productive thread!!! I wanna say what I think of this thread but i'd rather not get banned again.
  8. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 10:12 PM) I can safely say it's been a mistake to pick up Rios for this year but what happens if we put him on waivers?That dude hasn't shown anything to deserve the half billion he'll get the next 10 years Hahaha ok...
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 08:54 PM) 9 errors and 6 PB so far in 40 games - seems awfully high as an error number for a catcher. That's 30+ errors in a full season. He's young though, so, we'll see. You really shouldn't look too far into errors for young kids, especially when they're not even 19 years old yet. Now if he was doing this at 23 at AA then it'd be a much different story.
  10. Can't really argue with those selections, although I would have rather seen Morel or even Armstrong over someone like Mabee. And I didn't think they'd do it, but I'm very happy not to see Hudson, Torres or Nunez there.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) I also agree with you Sonix, there is just no way I can ever root against a Sox team or anything like that. I will say this team is about as frustrating as the 03/04 Sox teams that would route people one day only to get there asses kicked another day. This team is too good to be where it is, but really they haven't done the little things to win games. Some can be contributed to bad luck, but at the same time they've made a ton of errors (in the field, at the plate, in the head, etc). Oh i agree they are frustrating and disappointing and sometimes (like last night) they just piss me off. But even in times like last night, when I shut the game off I still saw myself checking my phone for the score every ten minutes. I would never not root for them, unless it was 1 or 2 games at the end of the season that would help the draft position to get an elite/uber prospect (like a Starboug/Harper type). And I do care about the game and would rather teams that deserve to be there flourish, but when the playoffs start, if my team is in it, then f*** all the other teams cuz I only care about mine lol.
  12. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) That was pretty awesome how you just made a large g while generalization while failing to back up your point. Is argument for Brandon Allen not being able to play the OF, really that Josh Fields couldn’t do it? As I said, it’s a false premise Brandon Allen is not Josh Fields nor am I ChiSox or you Thunderbolt. What you're failing to get is what the initial statement was. It was that since Brandon Allen is an athletic person, he could potentially be a starter for us next year at a corner OF spot. Since he has a total of 8 career games in the OF (all in rookie ball 6 years ago) I asked based on what. The response was his athleticism. I brought up Gordon Beckham and someone else brought up Josh Fields as reasons why that is bad logic. It was a flawed argument. It was just someone trying even harder to justify their pissed-off-ness (i relaize that's not a word) over the trade.
  13. Apparently J-MAN turned 62 today according the birthday reminders
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) Brandon Allen is a fundamentally different player then Josh Fields. It’s a flawed comparison. And i promise you that Fields could have played LF, were we to have sent him out their more then a handful of times. It's not a difficult place to play. No. The only thing that was flawed was the original reference to Brandon Allen having the chance to have possibly been a starter for us next year at one of the corner OF spots.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) I didn't realize ChiSox_Sonix translated to "snitch". You made a brand new topic for this, it's not exactly as if i'm pointing something out people don't know about.
  16. While you make some valid arguments throughout the article, I completely disagree with and can not comprehend anyone who would have a "hard time" rooting for our team in any circumstance, especially if we were already in the playoffs.
  17. Aren't these people supposed to get suspended or whatever if they are creating those types of threads and dragging down the quality of the forum though? At least that's what I thought that memo a while back was for...
  18. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) TTT You don't need to bump your own thread just b/c no one has responded in the 45 minutes since you posted it.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) As far as changes in our lineup, Pods will be gone. Does anybody really believe Thome/Dye/Konerko will be back? I'd say one of the three maybe, probably Dye. Why wouldn't Konerko be back? He's under contract next year. Are you saying we're going to be trading him? If so, who is gonna play first for us? We will have probably 6-7 starters back next year, plus probably Nix filling the super-sub role. That isn't really significant changes.
  20. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) Like how? Like how it's not going to be drastically different he must mean.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) I don't recall this - I'll have to go find video now. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=220717105 Game recap
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 11:20 PM) Josh Fields is also athletic and he failed as an outfielder. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 12:54 AM) Fields is also a strikeout machine who can’t catch a fastball, and a defensive black hole. Which has nothing to do with his play in the OF. The point was that just because someone is athletic (Allen) and plays a corner IF spot doesn't mean they can play a corner OF spot as was suggested earlier in the thread.
  23. You really have a thing for NDFA don't you?
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 11:19 PM) Pujols pretty much did. That wasn't mid-season however, so that's a difference.
