QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) Man, I want USA to win tomorrow. Mexico is down, but it will still be very tough to win in Azteca. I'd be happy with a draw. -
That was almost 6 years ago. I have no idea. I got fed up with the espn boards so I think I just made a straight switch since several of those guys were posting here at the time.

QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) Why do I care if this guy can't control himself? There are a lot of f***ing people who can't control themselves. Get your s*** together. I don't fell sorry for him or give two s***s about him. I got enough problems taking care of myself. Oops...I got drunk and did shots off young girls, while my wife and kids are at home. F him. Wow. And apparently you do give enough s***s about him to hope and not be able to wait until he fails again.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) Well this is getting off topic, but I think it's a legit question, why is there no comparison? Why is fighting ok (encouraged) in hockey? What does it add to the game that it couldn't/wouldn't in basketball? It gets mostly overlooked in football too, but I don't see why people treat basketball players so different, like basketball is not a physical sport. Because it just isn't the same. Starting in Junior-C fighing is allowed in hockey. It's allowed all the way through Juniors, the Minors and in the NHL. It always has been. It's how the game evolved. Hell, at one point hockey players used to fight with their sticks. It's just part of the game. Yes, at the low minor league level it has become somewhat of a sideshow, but it is also used as a means of intimidation, protection and to settle things before they escalate. Hockey players run around with deadly weapons in their hands. During the course of a game things can get chippy and dirty. When players get frustrated they may take a run at someone in the boards, slash at ankles, face wash, spear, hit you in the junk etc...It's all a means of trying to get under the opposing players skin and perhaps to try and draw a penalty. It also serves as a means of protection of the star players. You take a run at my guy and you'll answer to me mentality. Hockey is just a different animal than any other sport. It's hard to communicate it thoroughly but if you've ever played you'd just know. It's just different in basketball. There's just no need for it. [/hijack]

chris young teh unbelievable suckfest
ChiSox_Sonix replied to hammerhead johnson's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:32 PM) The D-Backs just sent Chris Young to AAA. Seriously. But why didn't KW trade BA instead?!?!?! He's so stupid for trading Young for Vazquez!!! He could have/should have gotten him for less!!! How's that trade looking now everyone? This is why you shouldn't b**** and moan and whine and carry on like someone stole your child when someone is traded out of AA. Sometimes it comes back to bite you, sometimes it doesn't. And KW has proven to have a pretty good track record when he trades for and away minor leaguers. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 01:16 AM) Really? McCulloch’s been producing middling, mediocre results in Birmingham for two and a half years now. He’s nearly 25 years old. He clearly has very little chance at a big league future, but retains a limited amount of value because he was a former 1st round pick. That’s sounds like someone who would be best served in AAA to me. We have Anthony Carter and Jacob Rasner in Winston-Salem, they haven’t been lighting it up, but a promotion for each of them isn’t out of the question. They stand to offer this organization much more then McCulloch ever will if developed correctly. The coaching staff at Birmingham would best nurture this talent. Oh, and the last thing we should worry about is whether we win the AA championship. I’m concerned with developing major league talent, not minor league trophies. There is no reason to push Rasner or Carter or anyone else through to AA for 2 or 3 starts. Let them finish where they are and re-evaluate them next year. There is no reason to move McCulloch to AAA. He has been mediocre at the AA level and has not earned the AAA promotion. He does, however, help the AA team and at this point in the season it is best served for everyone to leave him there. There is something to be said about breeding a winning attitude in the minors. Winning in the minors does matter. An attitude like that towards our affiliates is the absolute wrong way to go.

Does Wise have dirt on Ozzie or Kenny?
ChiSox_Sonix replied to son of a rude's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 03:19 AM) Torres was sent down today to make room for Rios. I honestly don't get it. We have 6 out fielders now... on an AL team... Who is going to be the 5th starter until Peavy comes? This scrub is a career minor leaguer. Ozzie's love for Wise is unbelievable. We don't need a 5th starter for a while, so there was no point in keeping Torres. Keeping Wise allows us flexibility late in games if we need a runner for one of our power guys. This isn't a big deal. Ozzie has barely played him since Kotsay got here so he's being used correctly right now (ie. basically not at all). It isn't like they let Kotsay go in favor of him. But you're right, Wise blackmailing them makes much more sense. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 03:15 PM) I'm not sure what you think I'm trying to say here. You're trying to compare hockey fights to basketball fights. There is no comparison. At all. Where I think you were going with that was people on message boards thinking the hockey goon = awesome and someone who gets in a fight in basketball = thug. I was just saying you can't compare anything associated with fights in the two sports. One is sanctioned, while one is not.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
ChiSox_Sonix replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) You could make a case that you could afford to go with Danks next season and let him further his development at the big league level, but you'd want to make sure you had a veteran around him to help out with the situation. Obviously the better scenario would be leaving Danks down in the minors with the Sox signing a one year stop-gap but I really don't see many major holes in the rest of the lineup (infield is set and Beckham/Getz will have major league experience under there belts which should help them). Alexei will have more experience as well and I expect to see Flowers getting a lot of playing time as well as he continues his progress at the big league level. Basically put, the 2010 Sox with Rios and Quentin could afford to stick with Danks if they really wanted to and let him take some licks at the big league level. I'd be a lot more willing to agree about Danks if he hadn't gone into the tailspin he's in right now. If he doesn't pick it up in the last month of the year I'd really expect that he'll need at least a half a year in AAA next season. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Well if you want to throw that into the discussion, go look at internet comments after a hockey fight, then do the same thing after a basketball fight. Ok, not even in the same universe. And you know it.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) I'm certainly not aiming this towards you but I can't help but to feel race is an element in these situations. Some young black kid makes it to the NBA, MLB, NFL, etc and continues to smoke pot, hang out with "thugs", or whatever and everyone calls them out on it. "What an idiot." "He just hit the lotto ad blew it." and on and on. And for some reason this guy blows it because of stupidity and it's because he's "developed problems". My response is to anyone who criticizes him is to ask if you have ever been a smoker or are overweight or anything of the sort in which addiction plays a factor. Some people are just not mentally strong enough to overcome addictions. I will say there is a difference between this and the "thug life" you mentioned. If you continue to hang around with people who make bad decisions, or are a bad influence it is a conscious decision that person is making. I just feel someone who is an addict is different. It is no longer them. Hamilton made a dumb decision to have that first beer. he thought it would be fine because it was just one. Clearly it wasn't. He apparently isn't strong enough to handle himself. Having beer six or seven or twelve was no longer him making a conscious decision. Until someone has been in that position, they don't know. I don't know either, but I have an idea of what an addiction could be like. I just don't feel like comparing the two is the same. And race has nothing to do with it. Take a look at Jason Williams, for eaxmple. How often has he been called a thug during his NBA career. And stuff like carrying a gun into a club, smuggling pot onto a plane etc... requires forethought. No one sets out to try and become a meth head.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
ChiSox_Sonix replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) I can only hope, the sox would be set moving forward for the next four years with our rotation and around the diamond and our bullpen looks to be slightly above average. If we need to move salary in the off season we've got Jenks and AJ both whom could bring back a few good looking prospects. our core going forward would be set DH - Thome C - Flowers 1B - Viciedo 2B - Getz SS - Ramirez 3B - Beckham LF - Quentin CF - Rios RF - Danks/Mitchell No way Danks/Mitchell are ready. And I don't want Thome back next year. JD should be brought back as the DH and we'll need to find someone to play LF, possibly Pods. I also don't think we should get rid of AJ unless someone offers a trade we just couldn't say no to. AJ is really undervalued here, and if we were to get rid of him I think we'd pay for it. Flowers has not yet had 1 major league AB. Penciling him in over AJ for next year at this point is a little early IMO. -
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) That was a direct response to Thunderbolt. If he got bombed out of his mind behind closed doors, then I'd honestly feel bad for him. The fact that he chose to do it in a public place w/ skanks licking whip cream off his chest and grabbing his crotch is dumber than dumb. Does he not know that everyone has cameras on their cell phones nowadays? His wife must have been lobotomized if she's still with him. That's some serious never forgive action. Man, all signs point to stupid, whether it be the compulsive abuse of drugs and liquor, the religion thing, the fact that he needs a babysitter with him at all times, the 20,000 tattoos, etc. I think that the photos say it all, really. Just some serious white trash is all. It's amazing to me that anyone would defend him. It's amazing to me that some people are so judgmental and unwilling to accept that some people develop problems.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/...t.php?ref=fpblg "Once you thoroughly unfasten yourself from reality, truly all things are possible. AJC columnist Jay Bookman noticed that in the latest Investors Business Daily editorial about how the 'death panel' will condemn all handicapped or disabled people to death on some horrid wind-swept mountain, it notes that ... People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn't have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless. Needless to say, Hawking, who is recognized as one of the great theoretical physicists of the 20th and 21st century, was born in the UK and has lived his entire life there." Hawking was born prior to England's health care system being put into place. His parents were well off, and he did not experience any symptoms of his disease until he was in college.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) Dem sex scandals are funny too. The GOP just happens to be carrying the torch atm. The Spitzer scandal was one year ago. And there's a new TV series that appears to basically be based off that story.

QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) Shall we start the long list of things the government can't do, according to the GOP? Judicial system (activist judges) Health Care Regulate financial markets just to name a couple My bad. I was under the misconception that we just got through with an evil 8 year regime/dictatorship that couldn't do anything right. I apologize.
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) a GOP offical leaving office early.... there only a few options, and the most likely is a sex scandal. GMAFB. Yeah, GOP officials are the only one's ever involved in such nonsense. I can't think of any Dem who would ever do so.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) I believe you would say our government sucks. That seems to be a GOP theme. Bulls***. Were you asleep for the past 5 or so years?
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) Is this really necessary No, but it's different since it is not one of the people he cheerleads for. It's funny. Everyone complains and complains about her, but she gets brought up by those same people several times a day.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Here's irony: QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) You know, at least the guy is consistent and he's not a hypocrite. I have a hard time bashing him. Exactly. He get's beaten up but still doesn't clamor for everyone else to pay for him.
-
QUOTE (SI1020 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 07:18 PM) I haven't read much of anything here so I don't what anybody else has said. I pretty much keep away from politics on the internet because my opinions on many things are fierce and often not in the mainstream. So in the spirit of the thing here I will throw caution to the wind. 1. I don't believe in evolution. I also think it is completely and thoroughly unprovable scientifically. Don't consider this an attack, but how can you really think that? I'm curious the reason(s) you believe that. We see evolution occurring in some areas every year (see the flu virus). Also, do you just believe that all of these unique traits that certain animals seem to have is all coincidental? I mean some animals have such absurd characteristics that perfectly help to adapt them to their environments that it is clearly (to me) because they evolved to be that way. Furthermore, it can actually be proven. Studying the bones, genetic makeup, DNA, behavioral patterns of current and extinct species helps to prove the theory. I just really don't understand people who have that belief, especially those who reject the creationist view at the same time.

QUOTE (SockMe @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) Ferguson better hope that FIU gets a couple more REALLY GOOD recruits or he will pretty much be wasting that his talent Outside of WKU the Sun Belt is crap. They are returning their 2-5 top scorers (3 of whom were underclassmen) in addition to Ferguson and have a a nice PG coming in too. Plus they have a very highly touted center coming in 2011. They could easily compete for a spot in the tourney in the next few years. -
Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
ChiSox_Sonix replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) Ken Rosenthal's take "Yet, the teams that like Rios — and the White Sox have had a longstanding interest in him — are enamored with his 30-home run, 30-stolen base potential and ability to play center field." 30 SB's, 30 HR potential? where have you been!!! Two years ago he had 24 HRs, and last year he had 32 SBs. Becoming a 30/30 guy is definitely attainable, especially with playing 81 games at the Cell.
