  1. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) I'm 3/4 German and 1/4 English. The English roots can be traced coming to America shortly after the Mayflower. We can actually trace one of our relatives back to the Mayflower.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxgt @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) im just sayin its not like its never happened before.....im just going out on a limb tryin to name someone different I can't recall any position player who has been called up straight from A ball.
  3. Liverpool lost to Aston Villa 3-1 today. They haven't looked good to start this season.
  4. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) I've always thought that whoever makes the schedule for the AL central is a twins fan who hates the Sox. Short memory huh? Last season is already forgotten apparently.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxgt @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 08:29 PM) Brent Morel.....give Beckham a well deserved break here or there.. im excited to see this guy play...ive seen this kid play twice before and he looked really good give this kid a taste of the big leauges also The guy is in A ball. No way.
  6. 25% Polish, Slovak and German, 12.5% English and Scottish
  7. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) Sure, if he didn't have more value as an IF. If we kept Allen, he could have been blocked at 1B. He might be considered athletic enough to play at a corner OF pos., is all. You can't make a statement like he could have been one of our starters at a corner OF position based on "well he's athletic so maybe he could play there" mentality. He played 8 games there in Rookie ball 6 years ago. That's it.
  8. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) Based on his athleticism. Gordon Beckham has nice athleticism, should we consider playing him at a corner OF spot then too?
  9. I'm not really scared because it isn't as if we're in first and trying to hold off a charging team. We have been inconsistent and underachieved for the majority of the year. If we have a great stretch here with these games I am confident we will be in the playoffs. If we falter, it's b/c we didn't deserve it and we'll have to look towards 2010.
  10. Fields Nunez Torres Flowers Possibly Whisler and Betemit I also wouldn't mind Viciedo to get called up after the AA playoffs are done. Even if doesn't get a single AB, I think it could be a good experience for him being in a playoff race and being around our other two Cubans for a couple weeks.
  11. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 12:53 AM) Not to mention he could have been a starting 1B/corner OF/DH for us next year. Young, athletic, position player >>>>>>> crappy 'pen arm. Based on what? The fact he's never played there before? And it's a good thing we didn't get a "crappy pen arm" in relief then.
  12. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) Much worse? Brandon Allen is a better hitter than Chris Young will ever be, and the Javy deal was a fair trade talent-for-talent at the time. Brandon Allen for Tony Pena seems like a major overpayment to me. I guess we'll have to see, but considering Allen's ceiling FAAAAAAR outweighs that of Pena, it's a major risk. I hate the deal and I hated it the second it was made. At the time of the trade it was much worse. The reaction here from many people was as if someone stole their child.
  13. Holy crap. What a gift of an inning this has already been.
  14. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) Allen is going to be good, but he is no Jeff Bagwell. I do agree though that this might be the one trade of a prospect that comes back to really bite us in the butt. Pena looks very ordinary...not sure what KW sees in him. Comparing Allen to Bagwell is laughable. Also, remember the reaction when KW traded away Chris Young? It was much worse, and look how that ended up.
  15. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) Someone should tell me what has gotten into Escobar. He is killing the ball this month after showing no signs of life all season. Great to see, but he is only 20 so it didn't concern me too much. He still should start in Kanny again next year but he may be setting himself up for a mid-season promotiuon to W-S
  16. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) You can be smart and NOT draft them!! If you do want to add them though, I have the players sheet protected, but there isn't a password on it. Just go to unprotect and add them in if you want. It actually wasn't protected in the one you sent me. It's a multi-step process if you want to add players though. You need to go into the main page with the selection and unfreeze the panes, unhide the rows above and add the players there too.
  17. Torii Hunter throwing the ball back at the pitcher as retaliation after being plunked
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) I was actually at the game the day before that...I was spending a few days in Long Island and I remember watching the game with friends when that happened. Crazy.
  19. QUOTE (Nixon @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) The fourth Diablo III class has been revealed, it's a monk. http://www.diii.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=3176 Not sure what to think of that, seems like it would be pretty close to the witch doctor. I bet it plays more like the assassin though. Character looks cool though. Of course this means the 5th character is probably a Ranger or something like that. Not disappointed. Hopefully they bring out some game vids of the monk in action.
  20. Randy Johnson hitting the bird in ST That Japanese guy running literally through a wall to make a catch Kevin Mitchell's bare hand catch The fan falling over the upper deck ledge at Yankee Stadium and into the mesh netting behind the plate The Ligue Incident Bo Jackson running on the wall parallel to the ground
  21. QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) Watching MLBN last night. There is a handful of players I would deal Alexi for. The most realistic/non-realistic move would be in a monsterous packge for Hanley. I say realistic cuz they'll probably end of moving him regardless of their stance right now and non-realistic because, well, we're talkin about Hanley (and their new stadium and all the other reasons to keep him). Now my mind often goes off on its own with these kind of thoughts and I began to think about just that. What if they moved Hanley or Uggla for instance. I think an inexpensive Alexei would appeal to them for a lot of reasons, albeit by the time they move those kind of guys Alexei won't be as cheap. So we go a different route. Anyways, I'm totally babbling but it's no secret they're mlb's minor league club and I would love to get Josh Johnson. I would love to give them Alexei and stuff for Johnson this offseason please and enable them to move an Uggla or Hanley for a large package if they wish. Is there anyway we can push this issue so it becomes an internet sensation and hope they decide to go along with it? Please guys, for me? This always comes up. The Marlins are not the same as they were a few years ago. Don't expect them to be giving players away any more. They are really banking on this new stadium on invigorating their fan base and franchise. It's in a better area of town and has a retractable roof, so attendance really should go up. They already made the choice to keep Hanley as their franchise guy when they signed him to an extension and traded Cabrera. The marlins aren't against trading their players, but they have a good track record of winning these deals long term and it would cost a king's ransom for either Hanley or Josh Johnson. Don't fool yourself into believing they are still MLB's minor league club cuz they won't be for at least a few years. If you want a Marlin pitcher, look at Nolasco, Miller, West or Van den Hurk. Johnson and Volstad won't be going anywhere. If you wanted Johnson be prepared to trade Hudson and Flowers along with Ramirez and probably even more.
  22. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 10:40 AM) That aside, my original point had nothing to do with how to pay -- but that it's even an "option" to give the government direct access to a personal bank account. I just don't think it's a good idea, and that's all it was meant to convey. To be fair, if it truly is just an option, if you're uncomfortable with it then don't suscribe to that plan. I don't like the idea in and of itself, but if it's just one of several options it's fine. I just won't choose it.
  23. I think that's more a of Kennedy family type thing
  24. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) I doubt it, especially with Thome and Dye both potentially leaving soon. The Sox will move Alexei to 2B or CF before they get rid of his bat and very reasonable price tag. I think the Alexei to CF discussion was squashed the second we claimed Rios.
  25. I love MB but I don't think his changeup is even in the discussion. Granted, I don't watch every other team play so I can't tell you how 90% of the pitchers in this league throw their individual pitches, but MB doesn't have great stuff. If anything, I'd think his cutter would have performed better. To me, MB has 4 plus pitches, but none are plus-plus. I'm surprised he got voted that. But if the players/managers did that I'll say they probably know better than I do. I'm just surprised. MB survives on speed of delivery, location and mixing pitches.
