Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
ChiSox_Sonix replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) No one really knows the odds of it happening. We don't even know for sure that the White Sox are the team that won the claim. However, they are the team believed to have won the claim by "baseball sources." In terms of who the Sox would have to give up, that is unknown. Presumably very little or nothing. His contract details are as follows: Alex Rios of 7 years/$69.835M (2008-14), plus 2015 club option 7 years/$69.835M (2008-14), plus 2015 club option signed extension with Toronto 4/4/08, re-working 2008 deal signed 2/5/08 ($3.5M signing bonus remains, 2008 salary reduced from $1.335M to $0.735M) 08:$0.735M, 09:$5.9M, 10:$9.7M, 11:$12M, 12:$12M, 13:$12.5M, 14:$12.5M, 15:$13.5M club option ($1M buyout) full no-trade clause, 2009-10 limited no-trade clause, 2011 - end of deal (may block trades to 6 clubs) 1 year/$4.835M (2008) re-signed 2/5/08 (avoided arbitration, $5.65M-$4.535M) $3.5M signing bonus, 08:$1.335M award bonus: $15,000 for All Star team 1 year/$2.535M (2007) re-signed 2/07 (avoided arbitration, $3.1M-$2M) 1 year/$0.354M (2006) 1 year/$0.331M (2005), re-signed 3/05 drafted 1999 (1-19) $0.845M signing bonus agent: Paul Kinzer ML service: 4.130 Thanks! -

So I don't have to read through 14 pages, could someone please summarize this situation for me? Like what are the odds of this actually happening? Any speculation on what we'd have to give up? What are his contract details? He's a nice player. Not a star but plays good defense, has some pop, decent average, and can steal bases. He could definitely be the CF next year. Oh, and where would he play? -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) I’m incredibly excited about this. He’s going to be our next big thing very soon. If he has a good start I’d give him a 40-45% chance of making a start for the Big League Club before Peavy gets here. If he wobbles a bit, I’d give Egbert the higher percentage. Egbert's not even in the discussion.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) Hah, Sonix....think about the reference....I basically referred to the same thing you did in your post below mine... Oh haha...i think somehow I read what you said and thought you typed "Beckham". Derrr...

Trading Beckham worst mistake I've made Interesting little article. The attention he has been grabbing from the outside-of-Chicago baseball world is really starting to take off.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) Jeesh, Cowley even has to take a shot at poor Barrackus in there...what an ass... Uh, where did he do that? That article was clearly meant to be light-hearted. the only pot shot he took at anyone was at BA.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) So I am in line at 7-11 and I look down at the back page of the Chicago Sun-Times and the headline is Don't Call Him Slayer Bulls***, bacon is what you call the fat kid that can't hit a lick, think Ogilvey without the attitude. Slayer is the bad Mo Fo that gets pitchers off the game so the AARP eligible RF can get something to hit or the prancing CF can win games. A man that strikes fear into otherwise fearless men. I am not good at downloading images but Joe Cowley with an f'u to Soxtalk Yeah. God forbid we don't call someone something he clearly doesn't like and is uncomfortable with. I can't wait for it to go away. By the way, this quote from Cowley is, well, interesting.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) I never thought I'd hate the word "freedom" so much, but it's a corrupted, meaningless word ever since it got hijacked and used as propaganda. Kind of like "change"?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) I spent college drinking Natty lite and Keystone. Watery beer doesnt affect me I'm immune to how bad Keystone is now. I obviously won't go out and search for it, but if its around I have no problem drinking it anymore.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) I love this show Pawn Stars on The History Channel. Anyone else see it? Just saw it last night. Very interesting show indeed.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 09:17 PM) Actually, I think Kenny saw in Javy Vazquez what he did in 2007 and what he's doing this year with Atlanta. The only problem was that the two years the Sox were competing, Javy Vazquez was a very mediocre pitcher. After the way he crapped his pants down the stretch last year, after pitching well all year, the writing was on the wall for him. He probably had the best all-around stuff of any pitcher the Sox have had this decade (though not the most dominant pitch), but he never put it together and never really has. He definitely lacks a killer instinct, and I am just reminded about his interview where he said something along the lines of how when he retires, he'll still be living comfortably back in Puerto Rico, and he doesn't care if he has a ring or not (something to that tune). Javy is not a bad pitcher. But he's not a winner. And we just can't afford to blow games down the stretch because he pees in his pants at the first sign of pressure. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) I like Daryle Ward. Didn't have a spot on our team, maybe he’ll get some play with the Nats. Hopper was Wise with less mileage. Not disappointed by either being traded. Not really. Hopper is a much superior hitter. Just has no power.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) Maybe more organizations can start teaching the value of the base on balls. It seems that Gordon Beckham has already been taught. I wasn't saying it was a bad thing but most players (especially young ones) would rather go for something better than a walk with the bases empty, 2 outs, down by 4 or 5 in the last inning. I was implying it was good the approach he takes even then.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) A walk pads his OBP, which is a pretty important stat. Unless you're Nick Swisher, players don't look to pad their OBP
-
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) Why not hit Wise for Castro????? Someone already said this, but managers are extremely wary of subbing for their catcher early in the game in case an injury occurs later on. Therefore, at least one of Flowers and Armstrong should be here when rosters expand for that very reason.
-
Another reason why Beckham is a good player. The game is practically over, but he still remains patient at the plate and takes the walk he's given, unlike many players who would use that AB to try and pad their stats
-
Wise probably just bought himself a start with that swing.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) Hell for Washington, they might be starters. Hopper can play. I don't understand why he really didn't get any chances after having a decent year with the Reds
-
Ozzie is being f***ing retarded. Entering the inning with already over 100 pitches, on top of being for the most part crappy today, AND HE LEAVES HIM IN? Geezus. This game isn't over, stop trying to spare your bullpen or whatever your thought process is
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) I almost expected to blink and end up in the Metrodome, with Hawk going off about the Dome Goblins. I'm so calling them that for the rest of the year, haha
-
There's no reason he should be out there to start this inning
-
Well there's a nice 6 easy outs for Santana.
-
WHY IS HE STILL IN THE GAME???
