Manny and Big Papi tested positive for steroids in 03
ChiSox_Sonix replied to LittleHurt05's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) How many MVP awards have been given out to steroid users? Not everyone here is proven but... Clemens ('86) Canseco ('88) Bonds ('90, '92-'93, '01-'04) Bagewell ('94) Caminiti ('96) Gonzalez ('98) Sosa ('98) I-Rod ('99) Kent ('00) Giambi ('00) Tejada ('02) A-Rod ('03, '05, '07) -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) You managed to be both impossibly psychic (overexaggerated his injury) and offensive (vaginitis?) in one post. Good job. Also, have you ever had a severly sprained ankle? Because I can tell you it hurts like hell. Hurts worse than when I have broken bones before. I severely sprained my ankle senior year of college playing basketball (by myself, haha). I immediately collapsed. Literally could not walk for 24 hours. Putting weight on it was unbearable. It significantly impacted me for a good week. I still felt a mild pain a month later.

And the list is now at 4... Doesn't surprise me. Somewhat disappointing just cuz now I have to deal with all of my Yankee$ friends talking about this non-stop for the next month and upping their obnoxious levels by a few notches. -
White Sox Interested in Trading Fields for Pie
ChiSox_Sonix replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) I'd like to see Pie reach a little of his enormous potential, but I think Fields would be more useful as part of a package in a bigger trade. Of course, we might want to wait to see how Alexei's ankle is doing. But do you honestly think he carries much value anymore? At the end of 2007 was the time to trade him. Not that I wanted him traded, but his value has just dropped off a cliff since then. -

I'd be fine with this. He's better than Wise and Fields won't be able to net us much anywhere anyways. And the guy is still just 24 years old, it's not out of the question to think he can improve to become an adequate 4th outfielder or even a starter. -
QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) I like how KW complains about salary restraints but has no problem blowing an easy million on Colon... and i don't want to hear it was a relatively cheap risk w/ a high possible return... anybody that saw how much he weighed should know he was an injury waiting to happen, esp. with his past. This front office is having a rough year. Well I'm gonna say it, because it's true. It was a low risk move that had potential to pay off for us. And for a fifth starter, we could have had worse.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) Well, Jenks only got fined didn't he? Jenks also didn't hit the batter though.

It's impossible to make up 3 games with ~60 to play. I can totally see why the season is over. They should shut down Floyd and Danks to preserve their arms for next year. I mean, no sense in risking injury when we have no chance of making anything out of the season. We should call up Flowers and Danks too. You know, give them a shot at some playing time. It won't matter if we lose since we have no chance anyways. If we won last night it would have been different. 2 games we could make up. but not 3. 3 is just too many. In fact, impossible. Season's over. I'm just glad I'm being told now so I can stop paying for the mlb.tv package. Yay for saving money! Thanks guys.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 07:51 AM) When will there be an update on CQ? You just know something bad is bound to happen soon. Yesterday didn't look good. Yea he looked bad after his HR. The Twins announcers actually tossed in a Kirk Gibson comparison. And if Alexei hits the DL Fields could come back up, but if he's just out for a week w/o a DL spot then there's some sort of time limit before Fields could come back up (10 days maybe?)

Garza admits to hitting Teixeira on purpose So apparently Garza admits he hit him b/c he was frustrated with teams throwing at Longoria. I have no problem with pitchers doing this, but he shouldn't have said anything. He'll probably get suspended now.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) Double play. Hmmm, maybe you should have tagged when the ball was hit to the damn warning track, Alexei? Oh GMAB -
What is your favorite, recent Tex opinion topic

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) I really don't know why though, once you learn how the Metric system actually works, the English system actually seems kind of stupid. Oh, it's ridiculous. But it is so ingrained in our country (and Liberia!) that it would be so hard to change to what literally every other country uses. Plus factor in our general arrogance, laziness and unwillingness to conform and I just feel people would put up such a major fuss over it that the program would stop. The only way it will ever work is if we start teaching kids about it starting in kindergarten so they grow up with it. But for everyone, adapting would be a major annoyance.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) No... you fail. See below NSS and me don't actually disagree with kap's actual solutions, but pointing out where he goes off the deep end is something like a sport. Maybe for you two. That can not be said universally, however.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) I think Kap, and myself to some degree, are going to extremes to make a point. People are taking these extremes in a very literal sense, which is their right, but the point is that neither of us (from what I gather here) trust the government to run health care any differently than it runs everything else -- right into deficit and right into the ground. Healthcare is the cookie jar the government has never been able to get near -- every time the badass cookies inside beat it down when it tried...and they smell blood in the water now. The people have turned on healthcare...so strike while the irons hot. Why? Because they realize the cookies overflowing in that jar are made of money...and they want it. All of it. Regardless of what happens after they get it. I get what you're trying to say but that's quite the analogy there.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) No. In fact, if you look carefully at this thread, you won't see me disagreeing with kap at all. I've suggested a few alternatives, but I don't agree with either party's stance right now, which I think I've made clear. I say that because... So he exaggerates and writes in stream of consciousness sometimes. So what? People disagree with him and choose to ignore what he means and just point to certain phrases he uses and claim he's "gone nuts" or the ever popular "straw man" responses.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) Why, because he has strong feelings against big government? Or because you (and a lot) of people here disagree with him? I'm happy he joined this conversation, I was feeling alone. That.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) Almost happened once, but Reagan chickened out: Still don't think it'll ever happen. 90% of the country would freak out if something like this was tried.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) Drew Carey is the worst gameshow host ever. Horribly, brutally, awfully bad. Louie Anderson says hi
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) I cant believe I forgot this one... not sure how "unpopular" it is: I believe the United States should be completely converted over to the metric system by 2015. Never gonna happen.

Brian Anderson traded to Red Sox for Mark Kotsay
ChiSox_Sonix replied to Jimmywins1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 12:44 PM) Kotsay is no help. I'm no fan of Josh Fields, but he going to AAA and Wise sticking around with this acquisition is very curious. Why? Kotsay is now the backup 1B. Beckham plays almost every day at 3B. Wise can play all the outfield positions better than Kotsay. Wise shouldn't be on the team, but Fields has nowhere to play at all now with Kotsay here. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) Did all of this stem from Brian refusing to play winter ball a couple years ago? That was him, right? He got sick, so he left IIRC

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) Looking at the bright side, only 5 games left at the metrodome...only 5 more games of total Sox suckage. As if today's outcome is in doubt... Actually it's only 4 more games, not 5. Just 4 more games of hell... -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:57 AM) That's never been a concern for us before, I don't see why we'd start now. The Sox said "to hell" with defense in centerfield when they gave away Brian Anderson and to keep Wise on the roster. Wise is no amazing defensive player in CF, either. Not terrible, not by a long shot, but he's no BA. But Kotsay can't really play there anymore. He could in a pinch, of course, but Wise is a superior defensive player right now. Kotsay could spell people at the corner spots but he's really down to primarily a 1B now. With Fields only backing up PK at 1B and Beckham getting 90% of the PT at 3B (as he should be), Fields wasn't going to get at bats. Wise isn't a good player, but there wasn't really a "competition" between Wise and Fields b/c of where they play and where Kotsay can play. We need an OF who can play a decent CF if (when?) Pods or CQ get hurt or as a late inning replacement.
