Nice job getting back into the game that inning. i don't know if I'd have had Getz trying to steal 3B. I understand the logic, but I kinda wished we would have guaranteed Beckham an AB to get him in there. And also, Pods, you really have no business swinging at a 3-0 pitch with no one on ever.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 10:00 PM) well since 07 that is Obviously we all like the OBP, but with his specific spot in the lineup, you need a little more handiness with the bat than he's providing. How much has it hurt us? Also who here would advocate lowering him in the lineup? QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) I definitely tripped over myself on that line. My point should have been the following, said more simply: I dont want my cleanup hitter's best attribute to be drawing walks. SLG is on the decline as well, each year he's been here, again with the biggest drop off being post 07. Yup, Jim Thome needs to be dropped down in the order no question. I'm sold.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) See how funny/misleading/manipulative statistics can be? According to avg ticket price Stros are top 8. But the graph Chi Sox posted would lead one to believe they are the best bargain in MLB. Don't direct Y2HH to this thread.

QUOTE (SockMe @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) I have onl seen a few other teams ticket prices but im wondering if the Sox have the most ridiculous ticket prices in baseball. I mean 38 for outfield is bad, in Pittsburgh I know there outfield seats are like 7 bucks and I sat on the first base side, 100 level for only 24. And 23 for 500 level, thats ridiculous Not even close. Disclaimer: I don't know how accurate this is, so if it's off I take no responsibility for it haha

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Jozy Altidore is going to be in the Premier League this season on loan to Hull City per his twitter. Good. His team will be weak but that's probably better since he'll be looked upon to play a key role against world class competition. -
25 things you didn't know about baseball That was actually a very interesting article. Don't know how accurate it is, but interesting nonetheless. It's based on the MLB Pitch f/x system.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) Semantics? How is trying to figure out what's wrong with him, "getting rid of him"? How is suggesting Torres and Hudson be moved to 4 and 5 in the rotation doing anything else? Were you implying we go to a 6 man rotation?
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) I'm looking through this thread for a comment stating that we want him released (bye-bye) but I haven't seen it yet, can you quote it for me? Removing him from the rotation is the same thing. Don't play semantics. And the flat out release has been brought up by several people recently in a multitude of other treads. Don't pretend as if you haven't seen it.

Before everyone starts clamoring for Jose to go bye-bye look at what he's done since coming back from the DL. In his 4 starts in June he had a 2.15 ERA in 29.1IP, 19H, 4B, 21 SO. In his 5 starts in July he had a 4.06 ERA in 31 IP, 31H, 12BB, 30SO. In his 10 starts since returning, we are 5-5 in those games. He has 5 QS and has not been bombed in any of the games. The most earned runs he gave up in any of those games was 4. If you look at his game log, you see that when he doesnt walk many people, he has had great (not just good) starts. His problem right now is obviously with control. There's no reason to think he can't work on that with Coop. Obviously, he started walking people again in July (and last night) and his ERA subsequently rose. But we're not talking about Jose anchoring our pitching staff. We're talking about him filling out the rotation as the #5 starter (once Peavy returns). Do you really believe Torres (who didn't look great against TB) would have more sustained success the rest of the year? And I'm beginning to love Hudson but that is a major gamble to bring him up. Contreras is no longer a great pitcher, but as a number 5 starter he's still better than what most other teams trot out there. And if he's on, he's still capable of throwing gems with the repertoire of pitches he has. Next year he'll be gone, but I really think he remains our best option to fill out the back of our rotation.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) O'Sullivan looks pretty decent. Anyone got a book on him? Rookie. Never faced the White Sox before. Basically, it's a potential disaster for our team.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) Yeah, we should stop calling him that....he clearly does not care for the name. I completely agree. It's just a matter of respect. At the least, it seems to make him uncomfortable, and at the worst he hates it.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 10:00 PM) well since 07 that is Wrong. It's higher than last year. No you don't. His job as the cleanup hitter is to drive in runs. He has the third most RBI on the team and the best RBI per AB rate (around 4.3). He's also third in HR, first in OBP and second in OPS. He also is a left handed bat to break up Beckham, Dye, Konerko and Quentin. Clearly, it hasn't. Probably just you. Seriously, this argument is ridiculous. You're trying to point to Thome's low BA. You can't just look at that for a player like Thome. He's doing fine right now for us, stop complaining for the sake of it.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) Fernando Hernandez, Justin Cassel and Matthew Zaleski are also on Charlotte's roster. Poreda and Russell are gone so that explains 2 of those. Nunez's promotion in Richard's roster spot is spot 3. Santos, Johnnie Lowe and Miguel Socolovich moved up to Bham. Charlis Burdie and Daniel Albritton moved up to W-S. I think they have an open roster spot. Their roster is at 24, isn't it 25 down in A ball? Serafin got a well deserved promotion to Kanny. Joining him is Enrique Lechuga. Dylan Axelrod is a catcher that I have no info on, he could be another addition. FS story on the promotions And the last remnant of the White Flag trade gets closer to Chicago, haha -
