QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) CBO score on the house version: cost is $1 trillion over 10 years, insures 97% of the population. Edit: that does not include any of the revenue measures. Serious question: Is that 97% of the legal population, or 97% of the people residing in here?

QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 09:52 AM) Source please? I've actually heard that before. I think it has something to do with hormones and lack of a sexual drive. Yes, they probably also have mental problems but the sexual drive factor could also be an influence - especially in the case of the semi-retarded. I wouldn't be opposed to castration as an option, but not as a mandatory sentence.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 09:12 AM) And just as is true with the earlier poster, really, you're not fine at all. This has been proven time and again in studies - your reaction time is worse, your vision is worse, your critical thinking is slower... very drink you have makes you less capable of driving safely. Yes, there should be a line, and no, the BAC limit shouldn't be .01. But if you have a 6 pack in 4 hours, you are undoubtedly effected by it. Its simple medical reality. That all said, I actually agree on gradations for BAC levels - but I think that is already the case. Judges can use that as a factor in mitigation or aggravation, at their discretion. It doesn't change the charge, but can change the sentencing. In any case, first DUI at any level should be a 5 year license suspension and a little jail time (maybe 30 days). Second offense, same suspension, but minimum 1 year jail time. Third offense, no license again ever, and minimum 5 years jail time. I just disagree. I think everyone handles things differently. I don't know how they could do it but applying a set number like that to everyone isn't accurate. I was good friends with a girl in college who had 3 drinks and was gone. People react differently.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) Wouldn't need to pay it back because it would be very heavily subsized. So, no more student loans--which essentially punish students for attempting to better themselves. +1 I'm 2 years into paying my student loans back and it seems I've hardly put a dent in them. I know my degree got me my job but that's a significant chunk of my monthly salary I lose right now. Can't wait until they are no longer a concern.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 09:08 AM) Oh I agree with you there - if you get private loans, they can do whatever the heck they want. I'm talking about the government backed or government sponsored stuff here. Which is fine, but government loans often don't cover enough. Especially if you're middle class but your parents can't afford to pay for you and the government deems your parents of being too rich to give you full financial aid. (Another situation that needs to be changed). -More scholarships should be given based on scholastics, not just on "need" On that topic my parents started a scholarship at my alma matter in my grandfathers' names which specifically states that it is to be given out every need without regard to financial need. I understand why the "need" scholarships exist, but it seems when I was applying for some in school I was disqualified b/c my family made too much. I was a top 10% student in my class, did extracurriculars, had a great SAT score, played athletics, but could hardly find a scholarship b/c even though I only had about $500 in my bank account I was deemed "too rich" too often.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 09:05 AM) Well, obviously, the 6 month period would be extended. There are already exemptions for different things like that anyway, lots of states do it for different professions and services. Private loans should not have mandated regulations though, hence why they are private. I took out a second student loan through Citibank and there were ways to get extensions but it's a pain in the ass.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 12:34 AM) Oh, and they're needs to be levels to DUI convictions. Like, being one beer over the limit is not at all the same as being 10 beers over the limit. But, apparently it's the same according to the court system here. I had 8 beers in 6 hours tonight and drove home fine, but according to the law, I'm pretty sure I would have blown over a .08, which means I legally drove drunk tonight even though I was fine. Completely agree with this. I'll often go to a friends house with a six pack and then go home 4 or 5 hours later. I'm completely fine, but I know i may legally in that .06-.08 range.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 07:46 AM) One year of military or community service should be mandatory for all Americans. They can do it after high school or after college. How would that be possible? Especially for those who went to college? College loan paybacks begin within 6 months

QUOTE (SmashROT @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 08:22 AM) Give me a break. Do you really think that Cardinal fans would even remotely be thinking during politics their shining moment? It was in the midst of the introductions of the greatest Cardinal players of all time, community allstars, and the righteous hometown steroid free savior of baseball today. The last thing on their minds was, and should have been, politics. Last night was about baseball, plain and simple. A healthy boo from an anti-Chicago baseball city is all in good fun. There were clearly more cheers than boos but I highly doubt the boos were because of the jacket. He may be popular, but he's somewhat polarizing nonetheless. Anyways, even though I'm not his biggest fan, it was very, very cool to see the President of the United States throw out the first pitch of the ASG wearing a Sox jacket for the world to see. Now he's just gotta get his butt to Chicago to do it too for a game some time.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) Do most people not find her attractive? I thinks she's fine as hell. No one ever talks about her and my friends think its weird. I dunno.

Since they want everything equal, women should be eligible for the draft. If they are not, then Title IX should be abolished. Baseball needs a salary cap and floor. I'm strangely attracted to Zooey Deschanel

If you collect welfare or any other aid from the government you should have to pass random drug tests to collect it. If you fail you can kiss it goodbye for the next month. Penalties increase for repeat offenders. Prisons and jails should use the inmates for labor and jobs more than they do. We didn't actually land on the moon. There was a highly advanced "Civilization 1" that was around before recorded history.

...or did we???

That's funny on one level, but at the same time it is pretty f***ed up. He still is (unfortunately) the president of our country and should be shown a little more respect than that

InsideTheSox They often will post lineups hours before game time. I have that one sent to my phone

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 10:35 AM) Chuck Schumer is on meet the press. This guy is a complete snake oil salesman. He even gave the bulls*** "saved or created jobs" nonsense. oh and David Gregory is terrible at his job. i can see why no one watches this show anymore. Yeah how lucky am I to have had Chucky AND Hillary as my senators the past several years. (I don't really mind Gillebrand at all, especially as Hillary's replacement.)

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:56 AM) Fail, who said I give a crap about the Mexican National team? Nice try though thinking that because I'm Mexican-American I must root for Mexico like all Irish-Americans going for Ireland or all Polish-Americans going for Poland, right?Wrong! By the way,Soccer is as exciting as watching paint dry,I rarely watch it cept when nothing else is on. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) I watched that game and I agree that the Mexican side and their fans showed no class but that little snide remark suggesting that Mexican futbol fans are always classless was out of line, you want to talk rowdy classless fans?Mexican fans are lightweights compared to pissed off Argentines,Scots,Germans,Italians,Dutch,English,Irish etc...Mexico hardly has the market cornered on s***ty fan behavior and since you seem to be a knowledgeable soccer fan I bet you know Mexican fans are not even in the top 10 of hooligan fans... I've seen some of your soccer posts and you don't waste any opportunity to slam Mexico every chance you get...you seem to have a bug up your butt about Mexico...do you also dislike CQ since his folks are Mexican? You mean when he bashed Mexico in response to you bashing the US team? And how would you even know what their fans are like compared to others? I mean since you don't care about soccer and all. Odd that you seem to know and care so much when you hate the sport and would rather watch paint dry... And yeah, Mexico will carry that rep for a while because it is true. The "Osama, Osama" incident is right up there in the most classless actions ever argument. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 01:11 AM) I guess I'm the only one that thinks a 20 year old is doing pretty well in the Southern League, not to mention what I'm sure is a bit of an adjustment. No I'm with you completely. He is 20 years old, in a foreign country that speaks another language, away from everything he is a familiar with and playing in AA. He is hitting .260 and has almost 50 RBI at the break. Yeah, I'd love to see his power numbers better but come on. How can this be construed as upsetting? Most 20 year olds are playing in college, rookie or low-A ball at this point in their careers. Viciedo was selected as an all-star in AA. I'm very content with how he has done this year. Obviously I expect an improvement next year but if he needs all year in the minors again that's fine. If he comes up in 2011 we still get him for 4 years. -
I've thrown away pennies while cleaning before b/c I was too lazy to put it somewhere else

If we're dealing Jenks for Hermida i'd like to add Sinkbeil, Jai Miller and maybe someone else like a Van den Hurk to the package

Nelson Cruz selected as Torii Hunter's injury replacement. How is he more deserving than Jermaine Dye?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) Any man who advocates that every American should be allowed to own a machine gun in their home is dumb. That's completely your opinion (which I happen to agree with you however) and therefore irrelevant. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who believe someone advocating war, abortion, death penalty, TORUTRE (for Balta), universal healthcare, marijuana legalization etc is dumb too.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 01:40 PM) That's why Cook is a better option. He has played all three OF positions, he's a guy you don't care if he's kept on the bench, probably no more than a bench guy in the majors anyway, and you don't disrupt Danks' progression. I'd rather not call up anyone to replace BA but if we did...Norris Hopper. He's fast, can play CF and has had some small success at this level before.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) By Position, who in your opinion have been the best defenders by position who have played for the Sox (while they played for the Sox) in the last 20 years. And who do you think was overall #1. By defense, I mean all facets that come with it (i.e. range and speed, arm, fielding, good decision making). Twenty years ago I was four, so I'm not really qualified to answer this, but curious as to who you guys think belong in here. C: 1B: 2B: 3B: SS: LF: CF: RF: P: #1: 20 years ago I was 6 so I don't know how to answer a lot of these either. I'd have to think it would be Uribe or Guillen at SS, Crede or Ventura at 3B and BA or Rowand in CF.

I'm a biter too. Used to be worse when I was younger, now I just bite to "trim" them down.
