  1. How many people can we expect at the games this week? Ticketmaster was acting up today but I saw the seats and the lower deck bowl was mostly sold out. Point is maybe people are supporting even in the bad times and the reporters are all wrong about White Sox fans. Going on Tuesday to see Quintana pitch for the first time.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) Ha, Veal sent down for Floyd. Is Septimo better than Veal? Maybe Septimo has no options remaining and Veal does.
  3. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:08 PM) Funny that you think Pedro is the only pitcher we have to replace him. The AAA, AA and AAAA guys the White Sox have are not going to be better than Humber. The "savior" will be found outside of the organization to replace Humber.
  4. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) So I see Phil Humber was primed to screw us over again. He can be let go now. What a great idea. Let's replace him with Pedro Hernandez.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) Extremely impressed by Veal so far. Septimo definitely going to get sent down, it seems. Should have sent Septimo down instead of Axelrod, but Septimo is a reliever not a starter so that's probably why.
  6. QUOTE (Caesar @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:45 PM) Jordan Danks is useless. Williams did a terrible job putting a bench together for this team. Better than the passive Fukudome who didn't do crap.
  7. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:38 PM) The ump stood there and saw the whole thing. That's a call a p**** doesn't want to make against the home team. Make the call, what's the worst that can happen, you get a fat ass or in the case of Leyland an ancient asshole screaming at you. Wonder if they get fined for making "bad calls."
  8. What do you believe is structurally wrong with Konerko's wrist? Bone spurs? Muscle strain? Luol Deng-like injury?
  9. Pull out the Dotel effigy, tie this game up and let him burn, burn, burn. Pitch crappily like you did with the Sox.
  10. Speak of the f***ing devil, Youkilis delivers!
  11. QUOTE (TheCut87 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:01 PM) at the end of the day does it really matter if he hits .200 if he finishes the season with 40+ HRs and 100+ RBIs? All I am saying is if he is getting his walks (continuing to get on base) hrs and rbi's that makes up for his low batting average. We all knew his batting avg wasn't great when he signed here. That is simply something you have to live with and move on It matters that he hits over .200 and closer to his career average because when two runners are on and you are a power hitter, you should not just K or home run. You should drive the damn ball down the line or in the gaps. If you can't do that then you aren't worth $15 million a year. I'd rather see Youkilis take his role at that point.
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:51 PM) I'd like to see him hit over .200 with the White Sox. That's something I'd like from a big time FA who's hitting 3rd in the lineup. I would like to see him hit .240, whack 40 home runs and get 100+ RBIs. That's a pipe dream though.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) Agreed For me, it was the lack of production in previous years. And the remaining duration of the deal is problematic. It's a fixed cost that could put a damper on future plans.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) Since this thread is active, figured I'd get the most responses here: if you could amnesty one contract with the Sox right now, who would it be? With all of the strikeouts and lack of at bats that actively contribute something to the team (moving over runners, fly balls to tag up, doubles, singles, etc) Adam Dunn is my choice. Rios and his crappy contract a close second. No way he's worth that much money.
  15. Corpseball continues. Robin, how can your team expect to win when your starting pitcher gives up 6 runs and your hitters leave 5+ men on base?
  16. Did the White Sox release how much money they got with Myers or is that going to be based off of the PTBNL? Also is San Diego on the hook for Hudson's option and buyout in 2013? Just was putting together a year by year payroll from 2012 to 2016 and it looks like they'll have to eat $7 million in buyouts from guys like Youkilis and Peavy. If they exercised both of their options, gave the young players a raise and made no other moves the payroll would be close to $120 million. Seems like this is the year for the team to do this since it's tougher to see Peavy than Youkilis coming back next year at a reduced salary.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) Well, I'm 100% sure KW talked to Gavin about him. ■11:$7M, 12:$11M, 13:$10M club option ($3M buyout) A commitment of $6.5-7 million dollars, with that buyout. One would think we didn't give up much at all to clear that buyout from their payroll obligations. So we have buyouts now for Peavy, Youkilis, Thornton and Myers now. That's like $6-$8 million in buyouts. Makes me wonder if they'll keep Youkilis and Peavy after declining both options. It's great that they got a veteran reliever, but I anticipate plenty of boos when he gets to the Cell.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) Most people despise me, but please believe me when I humbly, truthfully state this fact: "I am not a troll." Go SOX! I would say outspoken. I'm the same as well. Too many stupid posts back in the day ruined my reputation but I still enjoy a good debate about this team when people have something to reply with.
  19. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 11:42 AM) Really, I left WSI years ago because I replied to a post that I agreed with by saying "Amen brotha, preach it". I recieved a warning for being a religious zealot. Ha, I told a mod at WSI to go f*** himself since nobody else would. I recognize this post and although I don't post much, I love the debates or information when I need to check if a media outlet is reporting bulls***.
  20. Time for MLB the Show. Who pitches tomorrow? Someone who isn't a damn rookie? If KW wants to win this thing he'll remedy this situation. Especially if Danks is out for longer than a few weeks.
  21. Can you guys see the Sox targeting middle relief over starting pitchers? The bullpen seems to be spread thin and I cringe whenever Jones delivers a pitch. And who might be available?

    Job Hunt Thread

So I didn't get the position at the place I interviewed as an SEO copywriter intern but last Friday, some magic happened at my current position. Our company is "like a family" and so we "pledged" what we could offer to the organization. My pledge listed my job responsibilities and I felt like a liar saying it. The next day, I met with HR for lunch and said I wasnt planning on doing media relations after my current position, and that the company deserved better when it got money. Since our copywriter left, they offered me a job to manage people, write site copy, be the liaison with upper management for the new PR firm I am recruiting, and learn what I would have learned at the other job. It's pretty much win win, but I do need a better paying job eventually to actually live.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 06:42 PM) I don't know if the Sox have this, but Royals had great fan promotion Friday night. One dollar hot dogs and small drinks. I think they do it every Friday during the summer. I'll take it. Delicious dogs. Guy I was with had four or five. I had 2. Nice to pay 2 bucks instead of 9 for 2 fricking hot dogs. White Sox have done dollar dog days but only ballpark franks. They had some deal on polish dogs too but I can't remember what it cost per dog.
  24. Reed is fine. What is not okay is having AAA Charlotte's bullpen out there. They need to get one veteran arm if we want to really contend for the division, pennant or whatever the team's realistic goal is.

Just got word that I have an interview tomorrow at 11:30 - looks like I'll be taking a short lunch and will be starving by the time 5 hits.
