  1. I've been told my choice in women is pretty shallow but that I'm also a good guy. Not sure how that makes sense. Basically I'm 6'2 and 190 lbs and want a girl who will work out and take care of herself. She's also got to be outgoing, friendly, confident and not a valley girl. I'm not a blonde girl kind of guy and I have to trust her. I think what people think I demand is the whole "must have nice tits, flat stomach and be athletic and toned" look, which is sort of true, but not at the same time. Since I had a major breakup a few years ago, I tried to go to bars with friends without expectations and just see where things went. I found I couldn't pickup women there but I could at house parties. My senior year I had plenty of hookups (legendary trips to Bradley, ISU and Iowa had good results) and that continued into the summer when I found someone I actually liked. There was some initial attraction but she said there wasn't enough of a spark even if the sex was great. That lead to me being friend zoned and ultimately to Match.com. I've been on countless first dates (some good, some bad -- like a girl who got me in her car and hooked up with me there), met plenty of new people and even dated a girl for 3-4 months. It's the greatest place to find someone with the same interests, take them out on a date to see if they are compatible and the easiest way to get to know someone. It's a lot cheaper paying for a subscription for 3 months as opposed to going to the bar and buying a round for a girl and her friends, only to have them walk away from you. Still looking for a relationship but I am definitely trying to better myself (move out since I've gotten a new job, workout to stay healthy and try new things).
  2. I took all of the negative media attention and Cubs fans harping on Sox fans for not going to games (while the team was in first place) to heart and stepped it up this year. Went to 25 games, which is more than I had in previous years. At the time I started doing this, I was working at a startup making pennies. How did I make this happen? Organize group outings: I'd meet my friends or family out after work and make sure that someone drove so I could get home. There's no easy solution to get back to the suburbs without a ride. The only way it could work is if I parked next to the Cell early that morning, took the train to work and then took the train back for the game. But that's inconveniencing the fan. So I would pitch to my family and friends that it was a good pitching matchup, nice weather and tickets were cheap. We went and had a blast even if they got their asses kicked by KC. Advertise reduced ticket prices, coupon codes/change the slogan: Marketing slogans usually don't make sense, but "Appreciate the game" did not fit this season as I thought it would in April. If our fan base is comprised of families, why did I not see families and plenty of young groups at the games on the weekends, weeknights and whenever I went late in the season? Offer the reduced ticket prices for people buying more than 4 tickets like someone had mentioned earlier in the thread. Also a big reason why I could go to so many games this year is because the tickets were discounted from coupon codes. Educate the fans on this, or maybe showcase the poster who went to 50 Sox games for under $500...it's a great idea. Get rid of the lame promotions throughout the game: The notion of getting rid of the start with Thunderstruck and Pirates of the Carribean is crazy. That's the only time, especially when there's more than 25,000 there, that I feel the ball park is energized. Educate the fans on when to get up and cheer (like a 1-2 count when Peavy is in a jam) or when Dunn's up and we desperately need a base hit to tie the game or pull ahead, because most people will remain quiet and sit on their ass. I realize this isn't a Bears game but getting loud and making some real noise as opposed to that lame ticker is real cool. The promotions between innings are sort of random and annoying. Some are good (dancing, kid hitting the home run and hat trick game is cool) but most of the other ones suck. Reduce parking to $22 and $20, always offer $10 upper deck tickets and $25 corner tickets Let's say I get free tickets or discounted tickets and go to the game. I obviously have to drive because it's going to be a late night, especially with how slow Floyd is to the plate. Parking is actually more expensive than the tickets themselves, so I end up not buying food at the park if I'm going with friends. Bottom line, parking is a bit annoying at $25 and $23. A lot needs to be changed, but it's up to KW and Brooks Boyer to make the fan experience better. Also I'll never become a White Sox season ticketholder. It's just more convenient to walk up and get tickets when I want to as opposed to make that much of a commitment with the possibility of missing games.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 10:07 PM) So sports blogging is a paid job?? How does one make money this way. I have all the time in the world right now. Affiliate marketing.

Got a new job and will be on salary and receive benefits after a 60 day probationary period. Got phone screened two weeks ago, interviewed a week ago and heard yesterday. Now I just have to inform my employer I'll be leaving. Either they'll keep me on until next Friday or fire me on the spot.
  5. Farmer said the crowd was almost all Detroit fans. Not sure where he got that. Youkilis should not have been ordered to bunt. The score should have gotten up to as high as 8-3 but the bullpen showed some cold veins and surrendered minimized the damage. Velverde is a s*** head. Also section 152 row 23 on the aisle sucks. Too many idiots standing up in their seats talking to friends, people constantly walking up and down the aisle and two assholes fighting caused people to stand and make everyone else miss half the inning. Obnoxious.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 8, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) We're only in first place in September. Give people a break. Beautiful day, Sale is pitching, Sox are in first and tickets are reasonable.

  8. At the game in section 163. The attendance today is truly embarrassing.
  9. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 04:31 PM) A lot would depend on how far you are from the stadium. Who wants to fight the traffic home on a night game that's on a holiday. I would prefer a day game. It's about a 40 minute drive from my house in Downers Grove to the stadium. If the game was to end around 9 and I got home around 9:30, then I'd be there. When I was thinking about the game time today, I thought it would have been much better to have a 1:05 game today. Though they probably were concerned about nobody coming out or finding enough people to work the game.
  10. After reading today's stupid article, I was real close to going. But home cooking and a comfy couch sounds better than sitting outside after doing yard work in a hot day. That said, I will be going with my old man to the Detroit series next week on Monday or Tuesday.
  11. Just read an article by Ted Gregory about the Cubs outdrawing the Sox: Cubs outdraw Sox (nothing new) What do you guys think about this?
  12. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 03:10 PM) He does??? Is he just beastly now? He's probably over 21 by now , he started pretty young 14 maybe I'm 24, I am the Beast. And I am BeastlyOrdonez30/Wsc425.
  13. I don't post a ton on Soxtalk like I did initially (still can't believe some of the crap I used to say) but this board has grown to my number one source of information on the White Sox. So glad I moved from Whitesox.com's message board, got banned from WSI and was lead to Soxtalk. @JoshPR BeastlyOrdonez exists , and I was just thinking of Old Roman. Didn't he post a picture of himself on the board?
  14. For a team expected to lose 90 games, they sure have made something of the season. But with inevitable changes looming, they will need to win this division and compete in the first round for it not to completely be a disappointment. Let's beat Mr Perfect Verlander himself, make Miggy looks like he's smoking dope and beat Detroit tomorrow by its unemployment level.
  15. People are still filing in, I can't determine when the game is starting standing outside of gate 5.
  16. Looks like rain all day long. I might drive around to find free parking near the stadium so it only costs me the gas and ticket for today's game if it's cancelled.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 12:36 PM) Got the job offer. Congratulations! Where at?
  18. I hated Cleveland in the late 90s and early 00's. I couldnt stand the Twins when they were vying for first place and I now hate the Tigers the most. I don't hate the Cubs but I do hate their uneducated fans. Their educated baseball fans (>10% of them) I respect. But the rest of those clowns can go f*** themselves. I also hate ESPN and their lack of Midwest coverage. Yankees and Red Sox speculation is not news but Konerko's concussion is.
  19. Update: tarps coming off the field.
  20. Standing under the fan deck, outfield is closed off because of "lightning in the area." At least they let my suburban park against the wall in lot C to tailgate. I woulda flipped s*** if they didn't allow a truck to tailgate. No word on the start time, but the tarp is in the field.
  21. QUOTE (OldSmoky2 @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 04:01 PM) Just checked and Weather Channel radar forecast has rain ending around the Cell about 7:30. Damn, and I've got to get up at 6 am. Looks like a naps in order for tomorrow.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 06:17 PM) BTW, Ross, do you even give a s*** about anything or anyone other than yourself? Throughout this thread, you post these long, often pointless posts about your career and many of us try to give you some pointers because we are generally nice people. But I don't think you ever give a s*** about anyone else's situation other than your own, or if so, only insomuch as you can mine others for information on how to improve your own situation. Well, let me pass along some unsolicited advice: If you really don't give a s*** about anyone else other than yourself, or aren't at the very least, a LOT better at pretending you do than you currently are, you're not going to go anywhere far. I appreciate everyone's advice when people do post responses to my rants or posts about my "career." For people whose situations I am familiar with, I can offer advice. Since I am young, I probably couldn't help the older generation unless I researched something. The truth is that I do care about people and was curious about what he worked in. One of my great qualities that may not be displayed is that I empathize well with people and work with people my age to find solutions about their own paths. So while it may not be apparent here, I do care about other people and things. This just happens to be a thread I enjoy reading and commenting on when I get a spare minute.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 05:34 PM) So I got a good response to my thank you, post interview letter. It basically ended with "I think you'll be hearing from me at the end of the week". Needless to say, I was feeling pretty good. This is a job that I really want and I truly feel it's a great career move, despite being all the way across the country. Now to confuse things for me, the president of the company I'm currently at sent me an e-mail saying he wants to discuss a significant adjustment to my compensation this week. I don't really want to stay though. I travel 40+ weeks a year and I don't want to keep working in television. I'm torn on how to handle it. I don't want to burn bridges or be disrespectful, nor do I want to hamper myself at my current job incase the new opportunity does not pan out. What do you do in tv that you travel 40+ weeks a year?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 09:44 AM) So this begs the question: Ross, are you a really hot girl? If Facebook weren't in the mix and I didn't meet Cubssuck1 and Quickman in real life, then I might lie and act like I am. As I do not wear makeup, a bra, go spray tanning and look like the office slut, I am not. So no bartending job for me.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 11:50 PM) I've come to the conclusion that full time jobs are mythical and do not exist. They do exist but benefits and salary are not in our generations vocabulary. Found out the job I applied to is trying to hire for an office out of state. Going to keep looking and following up with this same organization I wrote to. In the back of my mind I am going to check out options for school that leads to employment (healthcare) since their programs last around a year or two. It's a complete 180 from where I am at but it might help me support myself faster than the current job I'm in. Wish you would have made it to the Score search event they had to find the next broadcaster, SoxFan1. Sounds like a great networking event even if you don't make it. Do you need a certificate or license to tend bar?
