  1. QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) Can we do a poll on how much we think a bottle of domestic beer will cost? And if the vortex bottle really does jack s***?
  2. Did anyone record this? I actually want to see a reality TV show - it's amazing. Also, in the preview, they told somebody "it wasn't going to work out." Who was that person?
  3. Did we get any updates in regards to when this is going to be replayed on CSN? I'd love to record this or see if it is On Demand to watch it.
  4. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 07:58 AM) By "overseas," do you mean that he's in the armed forces? If so, stay away from that one. I'm not saying this not because of who the boyfriend is, but I find it very morally reprehensible for someone to cheat on a person who's away serving their country. Yeah, I don't want to do it, actually. She texted me back today and I decided not to respond. I'm probably not going to act on this one, she's kind of a crazy girl/ny*p*o. I had a lot of fun with the girl I went to the beach with today, so we'll see where that goes, even if it is just a friendship. It was a nice connection.
  5. So this summer I've been hanging with a group of people my age who recently have graduated and are back home trying to find jobs in the Chicagoland area. And there's been a girl that I've been attracted to as far as personality goes, though I'm not sure if I'm physically attracted to her yet. Let's just say she's close to Kornikova and I'm looking for Keira Knightley. I also have been texting a different girl off and on, but I feel like I'm attracted to her physically (yes, it is sexting) instead of being attracted to her personality, which still doesn't fit well with me. She's also with a guy and hasn't really been faithful to him while he was overseas, so I'm thinking I should go with girl #1 over this skank, even if it is just getting to know someone. So maybe I'll just go to have fun with the girl whose personality I find attractive tomorrow and let the skank bot slide a bit, eventually catching up with her web of lies.

I like going to Another Round in Downers Grove, and I find that a lot of people in the targeted age group go to B-Dubs on route 53 near Lisle. Not a big fan of Naperville's scene, however.
  7. What pitchers are available and who in the hell would the Sox give up? Why not give Torres a shot in the rotation before Hudson?

"330 down the left field line, 347 down the right field line, 375 in the gaps and 400 straight away center. Outfield playing equidistant, straight up..."

"That's a hang wiff 'em right there." Or his new creepy one (sounds like a child molester when I hear him say it) "Don't stop now...BOOYYYSS."
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 04:15 PM) It was a great series and a great last game with two (three?) really bad calls by the umpires. I'll take 4 of 6 from a crappy national league team, but I'd prefer accurate calls and a legitimate chance for Rios in that AB. I'd prefer a better effort from John Danks and Threets over Williams, but life isn't fair.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) For the love of god...you just bring it on yourself man Give it a rest, and I will. It was a great series and a good run of stringing together victories. I will gladly take 4 out of 6 and I'm curious to see if the Sox will be able to continue their ways against Kansas City.
  12. Yeah, you suck ump. If that had been a ball, Rios would have hit a home run. The Sox would have won the game. They would have gone to the World Series and our lives would have gone on anyway!
  13. If Viciedo hits a home run, I fully expect a love fest from this message board.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) You're jumping on him at the wrong time though, that call was CLEARLY blown. When is the right time to jump on a guy for doing this "safe" s*** at first base then? @iamshack: I was over the call when it was blown. I'm not over Ramirez's bulls*** because if he keeps it up it isn't going to fly.
  15. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) You really need to relax with the umpire crap, we get that its not as easy as it looks doesnt mean you always have to go to their defense when they do a s***ty job. When your short stop is running to first and at the end is more interested in calling safe or out for three consecutive days, you might as well just suggest that he become a major league umpire. Sorry, but my frustration is a combination of the blown call (a very minor part of the combination), Alexei's reaction to the play (for those three times he has done it) and listening to Hawk blow up every single time there is a close play. I wonder what kind of response I would get if I seriously sent him umpire equipment with his name on it and told him to go do a game while Paciorek and Stone do the game. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) The only time we've eaten a big contract this decade was MacDougal, but Linebrink is inching closer. If this was the final year of his deal, he'd be gone one way or the other. KW wasn't incompetent, he simply over-reached by 2 years on that deal for Linebrink. Williams should have been replaced by trade or Threets a long time ago. I agree wholeheartedly with what you're saying here, but I wasn't exactly sure with what the original poster said in his statement. Was he saying that KW was incompetent or that the two fringe players were incompetent?
  16. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) I really hate that we have 2 guys in the pen that we never use due to their utter incompetence, Tony Pena can't be working multiple innings in every outing. I don't see how having poor seasons or being kept on the team by the GM is incompetent on their parts.
  17. I am so glad that I am listening to the Cubs broadcast on WGN because I don't have to listen to that jackass argue with every call, obvious or close. Also I hope Ramirez quits this "I'm safe" s*** at first base because eventually he's just going to get shown up by an umpire. As an umpire I hate when anyone says "SAFE!" or "OUT" when I'm making a call. It is distracting and could impair the judgment on the call since it is a bang bang play.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) Time to go to Lens Crafters Hawk. Yeah, and it's time that I send him a gift in the mail - umpiring attire - and tell him to join the umpires on the field and call the game. Then he'll see how difficult it is. Jack ass.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) I'm downtown Beast. We only have the female paralegal, and I know the prior paralegal was also a female. I think for a "career" paralegal you're probably going to get mostly women. Most of the male paralegals are law students. But like everything else, if you know how to do the job and you do it well it shouldn't matter who/what you are. A "needy" personality isn't a good fit within a firm though, especially a litigation firm. You have to be proactive and live with the fact that everything you do will be questioned and everything that you didn't do/forgot to do you should have done 2 weeks ago. I'm well aware that the field is dominated by women, but someone suggested to me that I should look into being a paralegal or one of the other jobs I listed. I don't think I am crafty enough to be a law student, but that is not to say that I'm stupid or anything. I have a lot of the skills that a paralegal needs, and I am willing to learn the job. I wouldn't say that I have a "needy" personality - you could argue otherwise based off of the internet - but what I will say is that when I'm certain on something, I work my ass off to make sure it is not only done, but also done well. Isn't that bolded part just life, that we are questioned in everything that we do and that s*** should have been completed weeks ago? I may not be the toughest baddest motherless b**** out there but I can hold my own. I'm an umpire after all. I appreciate the honesty in your post, however. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) I have been working at a sports marketing agency and realize hours here are just as bad as the law field with less pay, so I am back on maybe-go-to-law-school path. My question to you would be, how does someone with a business management degree, with courses in journalism, sports marketing and work experience in a sports information department get into something that you have?
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) Go into the repo business. You are pretty big dude from what I remember and you don't have to have great peoples skills. Or you could become the next, Dog, the Bounty Hunter? Maybe you could become a UPS driver? They pay pretty good. What I am getting at is that while I do not want to do something that is completely extroverted, I have people skills, and I also have have above average written communication skills. I do not believe that I could handle something so competitive as sales, but that I could direct a team of individuals to do a task. I'm the type of person who needs to recharge after a social event instead of being energized by it - I enjoy the small group setting better. Part of the reason I majored in business over the other fields is that I still can use numbers, I will learn statistics, and while working for the school's sports information office, I can still practice and get feedback on my writing ability. What I seek is more of a PR job, but I don't necessarily have all of the characteristics for the job. We will see of what is to come, but I've also thought about going back for a Master's in School Counseling or in PR (to be more qualified for technical writing and PR). Here are some job titles that I've considered (the goal is to get a job that requires a college degree): High School Guidance Counselor Education Administrator Paralegal (AAS) Police Officer Public Relations Specialist HR Manager Business Teacher Technical Writer Market Research Analyst Purchasing Manager
  21. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) Do you think he would suffer gender discrimination? In my 11 years at this law firm I have seen 1 male paralegal come through here and he didn't last more than a couple months. I think there is a reluctance by male attorneys to work with male paralegals. Any thoughts? Also, lawyers are some of the most difficult people to work for. Their job is very demanding, hence they are very demanding. Part of my issue is that I don't fit with a lot of jobs. Obviously I'm not some smoking hot woman paralegal. I also would not be good with sales, so that is out, and I don't fancy accounting or finance. So with my skills it appears that guidance counseling, being a paralegal or doing something completely unrelated might suit me. Google ISFJ. That's my personality type, and unfortunately I don't fit a lot of extroverted careers, though I can try to force myself to be more extroverted.

Summer Shandy is always on my shopping list - now made in can form.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) You can, but most of the "professional" firms require a paralegal certificate. But really, at least as an attorney, I love working in the small firm without the office politics. Pay isn't as good, but value of life is immensely better (actual contributing member to the firm versus bring a grunt working 80 hrs a week). I'm sure it's the same feeling for our paralegal. Where is your small firm located? Do you think firms would allow someone to come in and do a job shadow? I would much rather have a better job with less pay than a more stressful job with more pay. The work is probably interesting so I'd definitely consider that as a career, even though it doesn't really relate to my major (which I'm fine with, a lot of the jobs I'm looking at just require a degree).
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) My sister got the same degree and is now a paralegal. She loves it. My question would be, do I have to go get an associate's degree to be a paralegal or do they hire and retrain people with bachelor's degrees? I have research and writing skills in my background so I don't know what else they want me to know...but if she says it is a good job, I'll take her word for it - it pays decently for what its worth. Too bad I don't wish to meet the pre-reqs for PT or OT. I though I read somewhere that techs also make good money in health care.
  25. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) Law isn't growing anywhere. Healthcare is the place to be in any market. When I say Law, I really mean being a Paralegal even though I'd have a BA in Business Management/Administration. I'm not sure what healthcare job I could possibly get other than becoming an EMT or something that doesn't require an ungodly amount of science courses.
