QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) I am SO far behind when it comes to hip-hop. At the risk of sounding like an old man, I haven't heard too much newer stuff that catches my ear. For me, it's all about DeLaSoul, Public Enemy, Ice-T ( I LOVE "O.G." ) and to a lesser extent KRS-One. My guilty rap pleasure was 3rd Bass. Well, I am getting the Rakim recommendation from everybody, and that CD is from, what '87? It also looks like most of the recommendations are older. I am guessing like anything, the "must have" stuff really seems to be older.

O.K., since I am getting a late start on this...give me a little bit after Saturday then.
  3. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) Hmmmm... looks like SOMEONE dug around for his "rules of the game" from the old glam days!!! No, it was the Punk world that liked to "blur the lines". I never met a Glam guy that liked his own team.
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 08:22 AM) I was a Beefeater guy. I use to drink regularly with a coworker who prefered Tangueray. If the server switched them, we both would know instantly and just slide them across the table. I never would have thought there was a difference. Then I went someplace that only had Beefeater, but I didn't know it. So my wife brought me the G&T. I knew instantly something was wrong, and I switched to pop for the evening and became the designated driver.
  5. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 08:16 AM) No.....THAT would be gay.... Not if you have a vagina...then it would be hetero. Unless you're Jamie Lee Curtis.
  6. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 08:04 AM) Lemme tell you, the Hubbel TICKLES!!!! Would that be Carl Hubbell??? http://www.baseball-reference.com/h/hubbeca01.shtml
  7. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) ....elitist.... Atleast I don't have a vagina.
  8. Tangueray. I'm a gin and tonic guy.
  9. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) Sure, why not? I'm not an alcohol purist. I don't care what the vessel's made of. If it reduces the chance and amount of glass being shattered on the ground by careless dickheads, I'm for it. After all, you have to try to legislate basic, lowest-level common decency because too many people won't exercise it otherwise. Friendship is now over. Beer in plastic is sooooooooo wrong.
  10. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Sorry, but Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding suffers terribly when stored in a bottle, much nicer eaten straight off of the plate. Right now hundreds of US kids are scratching their heads say "wha'????"
  11. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) Easily the worst movie I saw this year. And the little Ohshessocute overacted in almost every scene. Gack. You are not a fan of the book then.
  12. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) If we take out Alba and replace her with Dakota Fanning, would everyone be happy? WotW was awful, I'm glad it didn't get any kind of Spielberg immunity. Nope, I thought Dakota did a really good job and I thought WOTW was one of the best movies in the past 10+ years.
  13. I want them in the vending machines again! If you have ever had it with the cane sugar instead of the corn syrup, you know that it is actually WAY better in that version, which is also the true old fashioned way of making the stuff. I was looking at an old picture recently, and in it was the old stubby glass bottles you used to be able to buy, with the foam outside label and the metal twist caps. I had all but forgotten about those!
  14. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 08:26 AM) LOL, I dont know what the Dave Berg thing is, but i had that guy on my MVP 2005 dynasty team as a utility player and he b****ed so much about his playing time that i had to trade his ass before June. LOL. David Berg Official Website
  15. The thing I don't like about the Razzie's is that the choices for "worst actor" and such don't make sense. Sure, maybe Fantastic 4 was not a great movie (though I liked it kind of), but you can't really say Alba did a terrible job of acting. There were many films out there with truely bad acting in them. Hers was just a fairly high profile role in a movie people weren't crazy about. Same with a few of those other noms. Standing out is Tom Cruise. Come on, love him, like him, or hate him, but he was not bad in War Of The Worlds. He was actually very good in the movie, and I know of many people who are not Cruise fans who have said he was one of the things they liked about the movie. But because it is cool this year to hate the guy (I have never liked him, btw), he instantly gets a nomination in that area, since anyway to slag him off has got to be taken.
  16. About to make some hot dogs for dinner, and this time I bought some Vienna's. Usually I buy Best. Really, those are my main two, with ever so often a Hebrew purchase. How about it kids, what is the best in your opinion?
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 04:20 AM) You know what blows....... A shop vac if you flip the switch the other way.
  18. I thought this was a trick question...I was going to say "a vacuum".

Nah, 10 albums is pretty easy to do in a week actually. I might not learn them like the back of my hand or my fave album of all time, but I will know by next Saturday if I want to keep pushing forward. O.K., if anybody else has an input, drop it in here. Maybe we can make something of value come out of a thread about Federline. I know there are Top 5000000 threads already, but then if you think Hammerhead and them are good calls also, then drop me one album from each of you guys.

Thanks for the last compliment there. Tell ya what, I am always giving things second, third, fourth, fifth (and on and on and on...) chances. Give me your top 5 Hip Hop albums and your top 5 Rap albums, I will get ahold of them and I will give them serious listens all week and tell you what I find at the end of the week. Or I'll do my best to get hold of them, I should say. Deal? It was "OPP' by Naughty By Nature. (Vanilla Ice...sheesh...give me a little more credit, please)

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 04:15 AM) Just look at how much of a douche bag he's being while listening to that song. That, alone, is enough reason to hate the song. Yeah, I got the part about him being a douche. That's easy to see. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 08:53 AM) I was the same way about jazz for a long time. It all sounded like 6 guys playing 6 different songs at once. There is rap and then there is hi-hop. K-Fed is rap, Eric B. and Rakim is hip-hop. It's like any style of music KG, you have to listen to a lot of it to develop any basis for comparison......and it's not on the radio or MTV. The more music you listen to, the less lilely you are to be impresssed by something mediocre. I'm not sure how much you've listened to, but I bet you'd develop at least an appreciation for it. I know, its just like when people say all Death Metal sounds the same. I know Death Metal REALLY well, though I am not a fan of the stuff. But I do have an appreciation for it. I have problems for Rap and Hip Hop, and honestly, I don't really see myself making any attempts at getting to be friends with the stuff. I tried years ago when Public Enemy and NWA were on top, but I just couldn't do it. The beats sounded like casio keyboard beats to me. I know time has brought the production and sounds to a more modern level, but I still can't find my way with it. I just can't get my head around it, and the majority of the song topics I can't relate to at all. It's kind of my problem I have found with numerous Punk bands all of a sudden. I just can't relate to their lyrics any more, and I feel silly listening to them. This is a bit of a problem I have with certain music critics I read though. Just because a critics owns T-Rex The Slider, they think they know Glam. Or just because they own that album and the new Black Eyed Peas they think they know "music" and that they are "diverse". Then I'll see said reviewer slam the new album by The Urgencies (just as an example and a plug for a band I am presently in love with). But that reviewer really isn't as well versed in the "Glam/Trash" style as he/she thinks that they are, and they miss just what it is that makes that album great. I know I am missing out "great" Rap in the eyes of many. But that's O.K.. I've given the style a million chances, trust me, all my friends (the Death Metal guys believe it or not) are huge Rap fans. I respect the style and it's followers to keep my trap shut about it the majority of the time. I also respect it enough to never try and offer an honest opinion on the style. When I see many of you guys discuss Rap, I do a get little tempted to go check out some of what you are talking about, but I have done that soooo many times with Rap, that I know what the outcome will be. Believe it or not, I have bought ONE Rap album in my time, and I listened to it A LOT when I first got it. Well, one song. I'm ebarrassed by what song it was though. But I think I still have the cassette. All my buddies laughed at me way back in the day. But some of them bought "I'm Too Sexy", so I don't feel too bad.
  22. A buddy of mine just uprooted and moved there last week!!! We have heard from him already and he is fine. Talk about timing.

    What a name

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 06:46 PM) At least his last name isn't Dong... "Wha's ah hoppenin' hot stuff".

See, this is why I will never offer a true opinion on Rap songs. That's considered "bad" Rap...right??? For the life of me, I can't figure out what makes that one bad...and another one good. I'm sooooo ignorant on that style of music.
