  1. It still doesn’t make sense. The Cubs cut Canario to make room on their 40-man roster for the Justin Turner signing, which is now full again. The Cubs would have to DFA yet another player to make room for Colas. And ultimately, why would the Cubs want Colas instead of just DFA’ing a different player originally instead of Canario and keeping Canario from the start?
  2. The only reason the Cubs cut Canario in the first place is because they needed a 40-man roster spot to add Justin Turner. They wouldn’t want a guy that would require yet another 40-man roster spot in either Colas or Fletcher.
  3. I think I saw that Canario’s most recent ranking in the Cubs farm system was #14. But he is also out of options. I can’t imagine the Cubs expecting a very big return for him.
  4. Quin’s link is missing the Sox Rule 5 Draft pick from the Brewers — pitcher Shane Smith. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/roster/40-man
  5. Perhaps Robert is dealt. But also, injuries happen in ST. See what happens. I’d nab the talent and worry about the roster decision later.
  6. 3 homers in 343 plate appearances. Fletcher has about as much power as Madrigal. He has no future as a starting outfielder. Also, good point. Maybe no team even claims Fletcher and you can outright him to AAA like Julks. Either way, I doubt he’s any big loss other than extra depth.
  7. The dude is aging out quickly to be of any value to the next good White Sox team. The Sox sure don’t seem to have much faith in him either, after signing three free agent outfielders that will eat up any playing time he could have had.
  8. I would’ve given him one last shot over guys like Tauchman and Slater but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s gone soon. The Sox don’t seem to be big fans of him.
  9. I think he makes the most sense. He’s not really good enough defensively to play CF, he has zero power, and will turn 28 at the end of the season. Essentially, Mena for Canario. Haha. Canario’s power potential is worth taking a shot on.
  10. The same level of guys that were traded for Gilbert and Booser. Canario hit well in the Dominican Winter League. 95 PA 79 AB .304 / .411 / .544 / .955 4 HR 16 RBI 13 BB 19 SO
  11. What a travesty that would have been for our 100 loss team.
  12. What is the difference between Tauchman/Slater and Colas/Canario? Two wins maybe? I’d rather see what Colas/Canario could actually do (even if they both bust) than hope Tauchman/Slater return a couple 24 year old A ball relievers at the deadline. This team is losing around 100 games either way.
  13. Just so they could buy some more time. Perhaps an OF injury comes up in ST to make room for Canario on the 26-man roster?
  14. Kind of funny that a bad 100 loss team should be playing younger guys rather than vets and this team is looking at a RF platoon of Tauchman/Slater when it could have have easily been Colas/Canario. I still don’t understand the strategy here…
  15. Agreed. Also, he’s the lesser side of the platoon facing lefties.
  16. Would Getz dare cut Fletcher or Colas to make room for Canario on the 40-man? Colas definitely doesn’t appear to be a favorite by any means and both guys are close to aging out of chances. Canario at least still has youth on his side, and more power potential than both Colas and Fletcher.
  17. LOL, they are basically the same guy. Good hitters in the minors who can’t do it in the majors and have bad gloves. But Getz directly acquired Vargas.
  18. Good thing Austin Slater was Getz’s “top target” of his offseason. 🤣
  19. He should be willing to eat Slater’s $1.75 million for a 24 year old that could potentially help in the future. I still never understood signing Tauchman and Slater to begin with…
  20. Yup. He would be a perfect platoon partner for Tauchman in RF if you are intent on playing Tauchman to begin with. Getz should still grab Canario, regardless of his hastiness in signing Slater.
  21. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/02/cubs-dfa-alexander-canario.html
  22. This is a no brainer, and even if it costs a low level prospect it should still happen. You need to add power in the outfield, and this guy has it. Worth a shot.
  23. We shouldn’t even have to wonder. Getz definitely should be on the phone if he wasn’t already. The current plan is to give an old man platoon the majority of at bats in RF which makes zero sense.
  24. Agreed 100%. He’s still only 24. He should be on the White Sox by the end of the week. I would be very upset to see that Getz would trade young A ball pitchers for older relievers but not for a 24 year old outfield prospect.
  25. The Sox are on their second rebuild in 9 years since the first one started in 2016. They have had only 2 winning seasons and 2 immediate playoff exits in these past 9 years. That’s isn’t due to lack of a revenue sharing model. The Sox aren’t competitive because the owner and people he put in charge are terrible at their jobs. Other teams have been more successful than the Sox with less money. There is no secret culprit when it comes to the Sox not being competitive enough.
