Back Home: Sox Host Guardians 5/9 @ 6:40 CDT
Definitely not the norm. Sosa is probably looking to sell his soul to the devil to have a start like this if he ever gets another chance.

Ramos getting called up
Getz surely knew that a guy with a .572 OPS in AA would look good so far in the majors. This was still just a panic move that Getz made that turned into gold so far.

Cease To Padres per Passan
I thought we were talking about the big league team here. Thorpe’s awful start was a bit ironically humorous because he was great all ST and everyone was expecting him to make the opening day roster and then he got absolutely lit up by the Guardians. But no, that one ST start didn’t make me think he was a bust prospect or anything like that.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Okay, what are the positives that I have missed for the Sox? Wilson has looked good. I did like his inclusion in the Cease trade from the start. I didn’t think Fedde would have been as good as he has so far. Not sure who else I have missed. Sheets had a hot start but is cratering as fast as you say Cowser is. Sorry, not a Sheets believer. Not buying him being good at all. The negatives have outweighed the positives for the Sox.

Cease To Padres per Passan
2 hits in 34 at bats. Was it Robin Ventura who had a terrible start to his rookie season? But he is only 20. I’m sure he will pan out eventually.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Sorry, I should have said Orioles prospects. I never liked Hall. I guess they were smart afterall to never offer Getz Cowser for Cease.
-
Cease To Padres per Passan
You must not have read my previous posts. I said I was never a fan of Hall. The Orioles hyped up a mediocre reliever as a potential starter.

Cease To Padres per Passan
I’m not defending it. I’m glad the Sox didn’t make that trade. I was just surprised at how well some of the Orioles young players are doing, including a guy like Ortiz that they traded away.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Apparently, Getz needs to find more utility players with an .849 OPS. He couldn’t find one player this offseason that could do that.

I think the Sox were way too aggressive with Crochet’s innings of work right from the start of this season. Not sure how that relates to Eder. You seem to be making the assumption that Eder will be ready for the majors in a year.
-
Jake Burger
Burger put up a .760 OPS in 2022. He put up an .827 OPS last year. But now that he has a .612 OPS in 69 at bats, he’s a DFA candidate in a couple years? What?

Jake Burger
Loss of development due to Covid and injury. Doesn’t change the fact that he’s not getting any younger and still needs time to develop apparently.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Little Joey Ortiz is doing a lot better than most of us thought. Getz needs to overpay for as many Orioles scouts as he can on Jerry’s dime. However, the DL Hall part of that trade was trash from the start and I remember thinking that, so I’m not surprised that the Orioles were offering him around. A mediocre reliever that the Orioles hyped up as a potential starter.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Once they dump their tradable assets at the deadline, it will get even worse.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
I would say that LF is the position you are describing, not necessarily RF. You are also banking on 107 at bats from Sheets this year to say he should be our starting RF going forward. I guess you have faith that this is the guy he truly is and he will keep it up. I don’t share that same faith.

Cease To Padres per Passan
I believe they each signed for a base salary of $3 million. Unless they reach some of their incentives, Jerry is still in the green by $2 million from Getz dealing Cease. If Cease was still with the Sox, I don’t know that you could assume that Jerry would’ve approved Getz adding Clevinger and Pham for the additional $6 million.

Robbie Grossman traded to TEX for RHP Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa
How do you think the Sox get all these amazing deals for veteran players?
-
Cease To Padres per Passan
Like I said, I do remember numerous posters saying that they would hold onto Cease, if the trade offers weren’t good enough. This is definitely no hindsight BS. I was a wuss like Getz and was too worried he would get injured. But Getz was probably also pressured by JR to dump his $8 million salary.

Now wait a second… You argued a few weeks back that the Sox weren’t as bad as their record indicated because it was too small of a sample size. Now you are using a small recent sample size to say that they are more than likely a .500 team? Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to use their entire 37 game record to judge them as a team, which is just 3 games away from being 25% of the entire season, which would also no longer be a small sample size?

Leave Chris alone. He’s still trying to justify that Maldonado signing.

Sox unveil the new Maldonado line .100
Eddie Gaedel would be destroying Maldonado in OBP without ever swinging a bat.
-
Jake Burger
I can go with this. The problem is that he’s a few months from turning 26 and repeating AA. He needs to figure it out soon.
-
Sox unveil the new Maldonado line .100
But that poster is also the same person who signed Maldonado, so it’s understandable.

C Edgar Quero
This is true but what else do you expect when your owner only hires these types of guys who had past ties to the Sox? In a vacuum, I don’t know enough about Santos as a coach but I do think it’s interesting that he has experience on both sides of the diamond, as a shortstop that converted to a reliever.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
It sure is a sad state of affairs when some posters are fine with Sheets as our starting right fielder. Expectations sure are embarrassingly low when you’re a fan of a team with a cheap ass owner and a terrible front office and you don’t expect to do better than Sheets as one of your starting corner outfielders.
