Is there a list of potential non-tender candidates out there?
Gross could be part of a crappy platoon, but we don't use platoons.

Joe is gonna have to go to a Pittsburgh-type of place and prove his back is OK for a year.

Winter Meetings Chit-Chat
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) Punto stinks He probably lead the league in stupid baserunning mistakes that led directly to outs. He has zero power and stinks at the plate. He slides head first into first base, what kind of idiot does that? Why do the Twins even go to the winter meetings? They do nothing ever. This team will be terrible in 2010 when they stop playing on the concrete carpet and actually have to hit for power to score runs. I am a slappy banjo hitter who hardly hits .250 with zero power and runs the bases like Hellen Keller, can I have $8.5 million too? Punto got it. Classic rant. I love it.

Raul Ibanez Signs 3 year deal with Phillies
Abreu should get something comparable.

Betemit agrees to 1 year $1.3M deal w/ Sox
Carrasco was certainly serviceable last year but check out what he did in AAA in 2007. Yikes. http://minors.baseball-reference.com/players.cgi?pid=18131

Angels May Consider Trading For Dye or Paulie
The FA market for 1B is super thin, so maybe the Angels would be desperate. I don't see anyone taking Konerko's contract though.

Winter Meetings Chit-Chat
From mlbtraderumors.com 2:38pm: Tim Brown and Gordon Edes talked to involved execs (not with the Angels) who believes the Boras camp is "using the media to ratchet up the price beyond what any team had actually offered." Brown and Edes say the Angels were told the Red Sox and Nationals offered eight years at about $20MM per. The Angels don't want to do an eighth year, so they'll look into trades for Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko, and possibly Adrian Beltre. Raul Ibanez is the top free agent backup plan. Brown and Edes believe Boras could insist on an opt-out clause in a deal with the Nationals.

Sox have inside track on Abreu
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) It's WSCR, who regularly has inaccurate info. I would take it with a grain of salt. WSCR wasted its money sending Rogers to Vegas b/c he hasn't come up with one interesting tidbit all week.

Where would you rather have Alexei?
i'd rather have alexei at 2B and furcal at SS

Sox have inside track on Abreu
I'd much rather have Dunn also. Will be only 29 next year, coming of six straight years of 40+ homers. Plus the comedic value of him playing LF.

General manager Ken Williams spent Wednesday watching television and conducting personnel meetings with White Sox staff members in his hotel suite. From this morning's Tribune. Don't get all feisty. It was just an observation.

Is Bruce Levine at the winter meetings? He was always good for some phony rumors. Haven't heard anything from him. Jesse Rogers at the SCORE is usless as a reporter.

Sox have inside track on Abreu
The White Sox have the inside track on free agent outfielder Bobby Abreu, according to the New York Daily News. The Chi Sox would likely want to move Jermaine Dye first and have been in talks with the Reds to do just that. Abreu, 34, batted .296/.371/.471 last season with 20 home runs and 100 RBI. He also stole 22 bases. It's going to take at least a three-year deal to ink him. Dec. 11 - 8:39 am et Source: New York Daily News

The 06/07/05 Bombings: Never Forget
I think Danny Goodwin, picked #1 overall in 1971 was the worst sox pick ever. Check out the veritable suck-fest that has been White Sox 1st rounders (Larry Himes era exempted): http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?f...aft_type=junreg
