  1. Five days after my 21st birthday. So there.
  2. You know, I almost hope that Frank hits his 500th home run against us at The Cell. I'm pretty sure every Sox fan could stomach that one. Good luck, Frank, we'll be waiting for you in May.
  3. Since the day Jim was acquired, he's acted like a true professional, and most of all a teammate and leader. He'll be a great presence in the clubhouse for young guys like McCarthy and Anderson to look up to.
  4. You don't need to cut corporate taxes or write a stupid article wondering why we're losing jobs. Companies have the option of using workers who are paid an average of say $15/hr versus $.4/hr. Now what do you think the companies are going to choose?
  5. *Searches iTunes for Rock and Roll (Pt.2)* HEYYYYYYYY!
  6. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) http://music.msn.com/music/article.aspx?ne...11176>1=7538 I wonder if his hearing loss has anything to do with, Oh I dunno, playing loud as f*** in a rock and roll band for like 30 years. I love how people do stupid s*** for years and years and then suddenly get preachy. I wonder if the IPod people can sue his ass, like the beef industry sued Oprah. Too bad he's right. I saw a report which stated that if people are listening to music at or above 60% of the device's hearing capability for more than an hour a day they're subject to hearing damage. And earbuds are awful for your hearing health.
  7. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Whoa, did James actually say that? Then why do SABR-heads discount wins by a pitchers and compare lame stats like BABIP or DiPS? Because wins aren't an accurate value of a pitcher's performance, and BABIP has been shown to predict luck better than any other stat. If you're saying pitcher X is a good pitcher because of wins, you're not very bright. Wins cannot place a value on a pitcher, BABIP can predict dropoffs or better performances, and DiPS, VORP, and MLVr are better ways of valuing pitchers than merely eyeballing them.
  8. The Braves getting out of the 1st round? "...and an improved team defense and deep rotation kept runs off the board at a reasonable clip?" Excuse me?
  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) Sosa has always had a very strong arm... just not much accuracy. He is like vlad to a lesser extent. So you consider long, loopy throws missing cutoff men a cannon? Sammy's throws have so much arc that they travel farther, which isn't indicative of a cannon, rather he just has poor arm strength and throws the ball higher to get more distance.
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) I'm not backtracking at all. He has an average arm that is statistically skewed by the fact that he plays in an enormous outfield. I can't imagine how many sac flies (rather than HRs) are hit into deep left-center in that ballpark. And Pierre takes the heat (statistically) for letting a runner advance on a 400-ft fly ball. Outside of their arms, Pierre and Damon are both solid defensive CFs. It's difficult to imagine that a guy as small as pierre would have a cannon for an arm anyway. Arm strength isn't everything. Look at Sammy. He has a freaking rifle for an arm, but did it make him a good defensive player? No, he'd throw the ball into the freaking 3rd-base stands while trying to gun down a runner. I'll say it again: I'll take Pierre in a heartbeat over a better defensive player like Rowand. I'm dead serious here, do you huff gas before watching baseball? Pierre and Damon are atrocious center fielders and Sammy does not by any stretch of the imagination have a cannon for an arm.
  11. Well, we know Baseball America knows of us as well, but seeing this is kind of nice I guess.
  12. QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) 3. Trying to get Vazquez to regain some of the form and results he showed in Montreal, thereby increasing his value exponentially? Will you please stop your love affair with the word exponentially? Is Vazquez going to square his value? Perhaps even cube it? What if he decreases his value exponentially to the 1/2 power? Diction, use it. And you're actually keen to the idea of giving a three year contract worth somewhere in the vicinity of $12 million, wouldn't you give it to somehow who might be 38? Baseball isn't different from any other form of trading, you buy low and sell high. With six starting pitchers, Contreras has the highest value as of now and could be used to get bullpen help which the White Sox need.
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) He instantly becomes the worst defensive starting CF in baseball. Juan Pierre.
  14. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) again, may i ask why, they have a young second basemen there that is good
  15. He needs to learn when to shut up. If you think that the US cannot win the war in Iraq, that's fine, but saying that when you're the head of a major political party is too detrimental. As for his grass roots campaigning stuff, it sounds good but I have a major problem with never surrender a vote in any county, blah blah blah. Instead of throwing money into some place in Texas where the Republicans garner 90% of the vote, how about fighting a fight where it's managable? You only need 51% to win, not 100.
  16. I vehemently hate Scoop Jackson for two reasons: one being that he brings race into every topic (just read the Steven A. Smith part of his article), and two is that he just doesn't write well. Here's an example of how his pieces read: Man, 'cause I'm black I can write like a damn fool. I just started this here paragraph 'cause I believe that after every sentence I should start a new paragraph. He criticizes FOX, and rightfully so, about how Buck omitted the blacks on the South Side, but there isn't one mention of how Buck also forgot to represent the Irish part of the South Side. That and he referred to the White Sox as "gangsta". Just because Bridgeport isn't the greatest of areas on the South Side doesn't mean the White Sox are "gangsta", you stupid urban f***. If you had any recollection of White Sox history, you'd know that the team symbolized the blue collar, Catholic demographic more than any other.

Must be a great feeling being a Rangers fan right about now. Your starting rotation is still awful, your bullpen is getting older every year, you have one too many outfielders, and there are no impact pitching prospects on the horizon to shore up your staff. Diamond and Danks are sure gonna have fun giving up gopher balls at Arlington.
  18. -Stewie ornament -Some Napoleon Dynamite stuff, which I thought was pretty funny -Plane ticket from Chicago to Basel, Switzerland
  19. My brother framed the front page of the Tribune after Game 4 of the WS, and my parents bought: -Two magazines commemorating the championship -White Sox flag for the car (which I don't have, heh) -Plaque with a piece of a base used in Game 4

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) If there was a salary cap in baseball, the problem would solve itself. Let me quote this, but instead of only quoting this, I want to emphasize the point more.
  21. 10 billion barrels of oil won't do anything to help decrease foreign dependence. There's over 180 billion barrels of oil in Canadian shale alone and no one ever thinks of drilling that. Well, people do, but those people usually start yelling "PEAK OIL" and then start crying in their underground bunker while watching Mad Max.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) -If you don't like the idea of Garland being moved, you're going to hate to see Crede wearing another uniform in 2007. Sorry. I sincerely doubt that people will have the same uproar over Crede that's happening with Garland, especially if Crede puts up another .250-25 season. But the great thing about the possibiity of trading Jon to the Dodgers is that you could get LaRoche in the deal who would at the least provide incentive to Fields to start looking over his shoulder a little bit.

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) Give me a break and see how the White Sox have done business. Let me guess, you're a big Garland fan and you want them to keep him, right? That wouldn't be entering into your viewpoint now would it? I want the best for the team more than anything. KW has shown that he'll trade favorites to better the team, but unless the right package comes along for Garland, I'd keep him for the year. I don't understand how this would horribly affect the franchise.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) You and Cerbaho are missing the point here. Of course teams do it. Of course businesses take a loss at times. But those teams are not run by JR. His team is profitable, and he plans to keep it that way. He has said it before. He wants operating profits every year. He is much less willing to lose money than other owners, and recent history reflects that. He has been a budget hawk ever since he bought the team (lest we forget, he wanted to move the team, TWICE, to make more money). Reinsdorff will not let KW push the payroll to the point of us losing money. He hasn't suddenly become a different businessman overnight. The tradeoff is pretty simple assuming Garland pitches somewhere in the vicinity of where he did last year: small economic loss for one year and that's it, or a very good possibility of going back into the ALCS or WS (on paper, of course). The deeper the Sox get into the playoffs the more money they would recoup. If you make an economic loss for one year it's not going to ruin the franchise. It could be easily offset down the road.
