  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 11:24 PM) None of those guys will be gone in 2017-2018 unless we think it is the right move. Yes, this team has some talented players, but almost every team even at the bottom of the league can say that - a few talented guys doesn't put you anywhere near the rosters that are at the top of the league this year. And throwing "Saladino" and "Sanchez" in with Rodon is just silly - those 2 are very much a wild card who could be nothing better than utility players if that. That you have to include those guys in your "wasted opportunity" statement just shows how innaccurate it is...if those guys hit .200 next year no one would be surprised and they'd be the reason your opportunity was wasted...which goes to show how silly it would be to look at 2016 as a "Wasted opportunity". sanchez as put up numbers, offensive number since his horrible beginning. those number are a fact with many AB's . Rodon number has been shown in a limited games. using part of it as a sure sign of stardom..... no. using your world of pretend of next season, maybe rodon will go 1 - 13. is he still be consider a ace?? yeah saladino offensive stat show he may be nothing more than a utility player. but still those combine makes up forming a nice group of a starting core of a team. to continue to build on. now using the unknown stat to gage a player production, to claim and to justify a statement is silly. really think on the unknown factor of tomorrow. come on, i thought you would go with facts instead of fantasy land stats.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 10:52 PM) Over the past three years, Quintana is the 7th best pitcher in baseball. He's a #1 by defintion. despite the ranking of Q, people need to stop at the urge to name him a #1 sp.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 11:14 PM) He was the 2nd pick and not available for any team other than Houston and the Cubs. The Sox had the ROY last year. Abreu is their Bryant. Everyone could have had him. ok, no offense, but i needed to get into this discussion. ref to the sox, while it is true in the sox getting Jose. but the sox still has a team that is riddle in holes and no help coming ..... second, other teams has a good, knowledgeable management from the team managers all the way up to the upper FO.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 11:00 PM) Just because "There's baseball during a season" doesn't mean it's an opportunity if your big league squad is very weak. i guess but i thought it would be explain by the poster own thoughts process. wasted opportunity is in ref to a group of players who fell into the sox lap. like sale, q, jose a, eaton and yes i consider the few promising young players / prospect on the team like rodon, sanchez, and those that on the verge like MJ saladino. this is the opportunity wasted.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 09:16 PM) The Marlins also have had 8 people manage their team since 2010 and 0 playoff appearances to show for it. They are about the polar opposite of the "loyalty" meme. and will max out their spending for a span of 3 yrs or 4 to get to the world series and then gut the team. it is a cycle. now the spending yrs is my estimation.
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 09:44 PM) I don't think it matters whether they are in the top 10 or not. they don't need to chase FAs. They need to stockpile young talent. and a waste of an opportunity .
  7. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 08:06 PM) Hopefully it's basically saying the accuser's lawyer is a liar for this discussion, why???
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 07:42 PM) I continue to expect that they'll do what you think, try to be "aggressive" and "win now", and you'll be equally disappointed by the results because that type of plan is extremely high risk, much higher risk than even the organization wants to admit, as we've seen this year. I continue to think "Being aggressive" is exactly the wrong approach with where this organization is. We were way too aggressive last year and it led directly to this season. Being aggressive was a major part of what went wrong. When you're close to a competitive team, being aggressive can make sense. When your organization is this weak, and you try to be aggressive, good chance you hurt yourself for the following seasons. excellent and i can't find a good counter. am i saying that i am stupid and can't think. all i am saying that this is obvious a difference of philosophy of addressing this a plan to get better. i guess the only part that we are in agreement is, this present FO personnel is not capable of getting this team there. ~~~ edit - i guess it is my personality of always being aggressive. so all i know is to be aggressive.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) And there remain "too many holes", and now there is less money to fill those holes. and this will go back to what i still maintain, no matter what you dug up. the sox does have the money. the owner treat us like a freaking dog. give a little pat and we the fans will be happy. they are still now more holes but the FO has to acknowledge that their has to be an aggressive approach this offseason. no matter how much more will be needed ..... to find doable pieces.
  10. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 07:13 PM) Why do 2005 and 2008 have to be outliers? They still won 90 games in 2006, and that was with every starting pitcher performing significantly worse than the year before. Hell if Buehrle just has his usual season we would have made the playoffs that year. 2003 and 2004 they weren't too far off either (83 wins with your two best hitters out the whole year isn't too shabby, who knows what would have happened if Frank and Maggs were healthy). We were also a couple small things going our way from making the playoffs in 2010 and 2012. It's not like we're the Marlins who lose 90+ games every season except for the two completely random seasons when everything came together. The last few seasons have been rough but from 2000-2012 the White Sox were usually in playoff contention. Things certainly haven't been great, but it hasn't been quite as bad as you're making it seem. hind sight.... hind sight.... hind sight. it is easy to use hind sight. lets keep everything into perspective. the beginning to fix this problem has to come from 100% commitment from the top the utter top of this org. once that is done, everything should fall into place.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) This is exactly what failed to work last offseason. you make a compelling counter, but i really don't agree. there were too many holes and poor judgement from the FO. wrong direction on how they went about to work fix with too much hope in doing minimum repairs and expecting a lot. last off season, this team, mostly the fans brought into the bulls*** that came from the FO.
  12. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 06:59 PM) Excellent, EXCELLENT post Captain. I was going to comment on something along these lines myself. Thank you for beating me to it and doing so in such a good way. The Sox probably WILL win more games than last season. The organization will use this as partly to justify bringing Ventura and his coaching staff back for another year. They'll tell what remaining fans are left, "we're making progress!!!!!" (and then because the coaching staff is the same start off with another unfocused, bad defensively, fundamentally and base running component to the season immediately putting them into another April hole.)) But I can't help think of the famous axiom "there are lies, damn lies and statistics..." - Mark Twain. Even though the Sox will have moved closer to the .500 mark, are they really better? Are they really closer to becoming what Rick Hahn himself stated that he wanted "to be a consistent, winning franchise." Look at the reality of this roster: DH, catcher, 3rd base are offensive black holes (in a league where power and run production is high because of the DH). Left and right field are below average offensively and again from a power / RBI position. The middle infield has very little power / run production capability. The Sox are going to lose at least one starting pitcher (Shark), maybe two if they trade Q and Danks is on his last legs. That's 60% of the rotation. The bullpen while better still has areas of concern and at least one key member of it is in his 30's. Defensively this team is poor, they lack fundamentals, can't steal bases, create runs. The minor leagues still aren't producing any type of "impact" major league caliber players. The off season free agent class by all accounts from those posting on this site isn't great and the Sox will probably have less money to spend this year because it's logical to assume many of those who bought into the hype last off season and got season tickets won't be coming back. I'm at a loss to figure out a way the Sox can solve enough of these issues again in a single off season to realistically "contend" let alone win even a watered down post season spot in 2016. Yes, I'm deliberately taking the most negative approach because to me that's exactly what the Sox front office needs to do and work from there. That way if some things do actually go their way next year they might find themselves ahead of the curve in some areas. Yes mathematically 63 to 73 to let's say 76 win is "progress". But the reality is those are all still bad, losing records for a franchise that is becoming more and more irrelevant in their own market with every passing season. There hasn't been such a sustained run of poor baseball by this franchise (six losing years in nine) since the late 60's through the 70's. That's a long time ago. Conditions have changed since then, the competition is more intense...can this organization find their way out of the mess they themselves created? That's the million dollar question isn't it? Mark some of what you post is..... cold heart facts that the sox fo will not look at. they will look at this and minimize the damage that can come from this. the owners will not to hear the negative. i say this, b/c if he really did, there would have been a complete, whole sale group of new players in charge.
  13. you know, thinking of this all morning, i just came to one important part. the sox owner's will need to pony up and spend and invest in money to minimize the impact of this season, but announcing they will be buyers in the fa. it doesn't mean that they will get players like heyward or players like that, but to get players who can fix the pieces. then maybe just maybe the sox can improve on the increase fans buying tickets from last yr to get more increases. build on the little positive while acknowledging that this season didn't pan out as hope. use aggressive language of "the fo office had to huddle up all the personnel and dictated the orders to improve the team or their career working for he sox will come to end." put that to the press and hopefully the owners will mean it.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) Post needs editing. Anyway. My firm stance is goal #1 is to add dynamic, star talent to the field. WHile we work to find goal #1, do not, do not sign average players to replace our below average players to contracts > 1 year. I do not want to have to think about "well how do we move melky?" anymore. Take flyers, take lots of flyers. OR Try to build the best damn defensive team in the league. I actually have more hope in option 1 than two. But I know at this point that replacing our below average players with average ones will not get us to the playoffs. i would like to add another "OR" OR find a nice combo of players to fix the missing holes while at the same time getting other players via trade to build up the farm as well. this will help get closer to the play off at least improve the overall record and aiming for the playoff.
  15. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 06:11 PM) Absolutely...and since then? It's pretty clear 2005 was an outlier (as was 2008) Rick Hahn himself said at his press conference the goal was to build "sustained success..." Now what that means is subject to interpretation but since the White Sox are the only one of the original 16 pre expansion MLB franchises to have never made the postseason in consecutive years, that would be a good place to start in my opinion regarding his comment. How close are the Sox to making the playoffs in back to back years? How close are they to even making the playoffs once? how close are they to help make more money for the owners to be happy Ladies and gentleman of the jury, the prosecution rests. Mark ref the bold.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 06:31 PM) I'm pretty sure this means they can: ref the bold, this is a fine timeline here. lawyers will surely have a better grasp of it than i an armchair whatever i am. but wouldn't it come to a point if he is charge with the crime???
  17. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 03:33 PM) I'm not trying to be over dramatic, but I'm checking out of this story. It's getting so weird, so gross, I just want to be done with it. it is and i too want it done. but that is the news of the day.

    2015 Books Thread

on tues i just got done reading a novel call The Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn.... interest way of looking at things esp from a religious POV. also it looks into or from a slant on the 9/11. now i am not a person who enjoys reading this things or talking about it. i pick this up quite by accident. but alot of that was said can be seen in actual things that was said or done after the twin tower fell and press releases and actions that many did afterward..... for those who didn't know what was being said or meant. now to reread maze runner the sorch trails and then the 5 wave.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 04:17 PM) Apparently never seen the ones that were tested to confirm that they were hers. Julie DiCaro ‏@JulieDiCaro 12m12 minutes ago Obviously, the accuser's camp would like to verify that the undergarments tested belonged to her, especially in light of yesterday's events Julie DiCaro ‏@JulieDiCaro 11m11 minutes ago I am NOT saying the underwear has disappeared, just that the accuser's attorneys have never seen it or been given access to it. no matter how this sounds, all it hope to accomplish is the creditability of the result by questioning the integrity of the chain .
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 03:55 PM) I think whoever said yesterday that they officially had no idea what to think anymore was spot on. This case went from pretty traditional, to completely unique in one press conference. At this point, who knows what is reality and what is fiction. excellent.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) I've had government drug tests that do need to follow chain of custody in theory and each time the actual sample as well as the bag containing the sample are both sealed and initialed by the tester at the hospital or test center. The bag that the attorney showed is not that type of container. IN fact my drug test for the FBI had their initials/signature as well as mine and they show you them sealing it in a bag. yes.... i too been in that situation since the mid 80's. that is why i was being cryptic in saying let the investigation do its thing. but you do bring up a great point for some who is or has never thought of that.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) Your tax return check is not subject to a chain of custody. excellent counter. but let me add this, for this discussion. if the envelope is needed when all the evidence within the envelope is put away?? it is only the envelope.... the mailing envelope. but as i said before, we the fans do not know the whole story and we do not know if this is real.
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) I'd take Zobrist for the short-term. I'd see if there's a way to acquire Alex Guerrero from the Dodgers. ref to Guerrero, i don't know. his hitting stats is not too encouraging. his salary is too much for an unknown. but the other thing is a trade is and will be needed to get that catcher, b/c there is no help in the fa market. so can AG be used a throw in.
  24. i kinda of like Ben Zobrist, he is will be limited b/c of his age. 1yr with an performance option or 2 yrs. but can he play 3b??? also there is that AL stats. Daniel Murphy, can be a 3b, ss, and or play of. it all depends on the salary and yrs of the contract.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) Another trick is to hit stop on the web page before it kicks off that stupid API btw. thanks.
