QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) Devil's advocate - Let's say the girl in question is making it up. What did Kane do wrong? Have a one night stand? I'm not defending him, either. I think the way athletes and entertainers use women is pretty bad. It's also really dumb for them to put themselves in a situation where they might be accused of something by someone they don't really know. But, I don't think one night stands are uncommon in sports, so I don't see why the Hawks would have a higher standard for Kane in this regard than they would for any of his teammates. the higher standard is a $$$ Bill edict and has carry on down to the sons. the hawks have a extremely high standard esp in pr for signing autograph for fans, talking to fans and wear hawks logo stuff from hats to sweaters to jackets. to the hawks, i imo it is the image that they pride themselves on. ref bold, it takes 2 to tango and women who knowing goes with the players for the 1 nite stand ..... what does that say of them???
-
according to the times and other rumors sites, 5 teams have express interest in Kane and have contacted the hawks for their updates and intentions. any rumors on what team they are talking about.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 12:41 AM) Because he is a POS wife beating alcoholic. Among other things i understand the visual of that..... but there are a lot worst things hockey players have done or rumored to have done. i do not condone what his actions toward his wife / wives. but i will not stand and judge him. btw... thanks for the info.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 10:41 PM) At the same time though...things can also be worse. They had legit success in ticket sales this year, that's obvious from the attendance numbers and that's one thing I totally missed as well. Do you think they can sustain that next year? If they could sustain their season ticket numbers this year then I'd be much more willing to agree that they probably have room for a big addition. I'm obviously more skeptical about that given the team's performance this year. i am refraining from jumping in.... but i would like to add one thing. any new commercial or corp sponsors has not pony up either, all this talk will change when the season ends, the total amount of attendance is announce and new info will leak out on the financials. just my take. btw.... i like this thread... good work all.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 11:42 PM) Don't see Olt as a solution, just more of the same; Probably (maybe) a better player that Matt Davidson, but wouldn't appear to be anything more than a long-shot. you may be right, but the sox don't have squat to man the 3b next yr. esp if you are talking about saladino - 220-240 hitter and 5 hrs..... olt, if he can give the sox 1 yr at a mediocre hitter at 3b, until the sox can maneuver to get a player. now don't get me wrong, i do not think he is a long term solution, hell, with his batting avg at where it is.... i don't see him breaking camp with the team. but would it hurt????

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 09:33 PM) I don't know about anyone else, but I would rather the Sox not break laws and rules. The Wilder fiasco was enough for me. I can't believe anyone would seriously endorse that sort of thing. in ref to personnel moves like that.... i agree and for the same reasons. however i think those are the same reasons why the sox won't break the int'l signing limit as other teams have.

Wendelken, Keon Barnum, Nick Delmonico, Jake Peter,Courtney Hawkins https://twitter.com/SouthSidelarry that is a wide assortment of names.... many i would never have thought off. 1 name i was surprise is not on there, but i guess it might be a age thing. i am surprise in k barnum.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) People on this board and the city of Chicago need to temper the crowning of the cubs and more importantly relax on over blowing how bad the White Sox are. This year the cubs are well over the skis and everything has gone right. That doesn't happen often. but.... and this is the big however, if you see the lineup of the team on the northside, it does look nice and with a manager who knows how to manage a team and even a nice looking minorleague system to continue to supply them. what do the sox have????

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) I have a feeling their idea of a star player to bring fans to the games is Yasiel Puig, and if it is, I sure hope the asking price is too high (for the team's sake, not the attendance). i agree, but at this point.... who knows what they think on what is needed to help the team.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) I feel like dumping a guy like Robertson would waive the white flag for this organization for the next 2-3 years at the very least, and I'm not sure KW and Hahn would want to give that given that Sale, Abreu, and Q are in their primes while Rodon, Fulmer, Anderson, etc will be entering their primes relatively soon. i don't know if i would go that far. the sox fans would realize that the minor league teams do have the players to help the parent team. the white flag was when the sox appeared to be in contention for a playoff spot, it might not have tough, but the battle could have been wage. selling Robertson after the fact is different.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 11:36 AM) The bolded was what really got me because it's actually showing that you replied without reading my posts. I have 100% said that ticket sales increased this year and even stated that it happened in large part because of the moves they made last offseason. They had a large surge of season ticket and ticket package sales after the Samardzija deal. Here are my own words from the previous post where I said "Ticket sales went up substantially": They absolutely received a ticket sale boost and a revenue boost from it this year. The point I'm making is that boost is extremely likely to evaporate. The lack of interest in this ballclub is amazing - even with a big season ticket boost we still are doing extremely poor on mid to late season single game ticket sales - we started from more season tickets sold and still had our worst midsummer attendance since before the world series. There's no interest for people to buy single game tickets and I think expecting that to carry over to the people who bought season tickets last offseason is entirely reasonable. Half of them are just bored with this team, the other 1/2 are pissed that they wasted their money on this and are in "we won't get fooled again" mode. With regard to your other points...yes, of course the split between revenue going to ballplayers and going to run the ballpark isn't 0/100, but the costs of opening the ballpark don't change by all that much whether you're selling 12k tickets or 25k tickets per game, they change slightly. And yes, it's pseudoaccounting because we don't have exact figures, but that doesn't mean they're not useful. If you've followed this team's behavior, their spending tracks the Forbes numbers very very well. If you said "In 2013 the white sox were probably close to breaking even or even losing money", then you counted revenue drop from ticket sales losses in 2014, payroll cuts, and the extra $25 million in national TV money, you could have come up with a number very close to how much they spent in 2015. It's not perfect. They absolutley could go into the red if they wanted. But if you've followed the Chicago White Sox...that is something this franchise historically does not do. The Chicago White Sox historically do exactly what you say in your last point - their payroll reflects revenue growth or revenue decline. They set themselves up in the offseason to operate at a small but solid profit every year and adjust payroll during the season if the numbers change. If you want an estimate of how much they have to spend and you're trying to figure out"c an they afford Heyward under their normal behavior", the answer is "they need to move some salary or go into the red to do it". They may choose to do so, but that is not how this team typically behaves. ref first bold, i agree, if they, the sox goes in the red this yr, to est a core of good players and good results on the field, the second yr the fans will come out, the commercial sponsor will jump on the bandwagon, everything will be growth. but the stipulations or specific point is, if the manger and the FO appear to show they know what they are doing and are competent. second bold, they, the team on the field needs another marque player to help bring in fans.... sale once in every 5 starts, and the

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 02:03 AM) It's a combination of all of the above in my opinion. All share in some of the blame. Things aren't helped when Mark Parent makes the statement (paraphrasing) that coaches shouldn't have to work on fundamentals every day with guys because "they are major leaguers..." Mark yeah i agree..... then what in the hades are coaches suppose to do????

QUOTE (daggins @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 01:07 AM) He's not way better, he is just Davidson but older. A year from now they'll probably both be looking for a job with some AAA team. considering how empty the systems is, i would take a chance of 1 yr fix as Conor Gillaspie.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 11:47 PM) I absolutely agree about Heyward and Upton but there are other free agents that could help too. The Sox can look at trade possibilities too and not trades that empty the farm either. An exchange of bad contracts (Danks, LaRoche) is certainly a possibility and Hahn has mentioned that a few times throughout the season. Maybe there's a team or two willing to take on one year of Danks or LaRoche since the risk is only for one season. I'm not counting on it but crazier things have happened. Since none of us work for the FO we don't know anything about the Sox budgets or their plans this off season so I will not rule anything out. Many on this board did not think the Sox would acquire the players they did last winter and yet they did. Things did not go according to plan this year but that doesn't mean the Sox will stop trying. Way to early to write off the off season on the last day of August. i totally agree with you, there are options out there. it all depends on how creative the fo wants to be. btw..... here is a question..... i been reading up on Gary Sanchez from the yanks. it seems as he has some baggage.... any thoughts????
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 12:28 AM) That's true. I'm not writing off the offseason, just was stating that I don't think it will be as great as everyone expects. lets put it this way, any players pickup, whether it is fa or thru trades that make this team better. by default, it is better than last yr, book it.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 11:32 PM) Then don't use USCF as a reason Coop can do no wrong. If you are going to use it, shiuldn't they have a split well below average? The 1st inning runs this season have been ridiculous. It hints at pitchers not be ready when the game starts. They seem to be warming up just as much as other teams, but something is missing. Maybe they aren't mentally ready. That would be on the pitching coach. If Coop gets praise for the good, he needs to be ripped for the bad. don't get me wrong, i am in agreement with the bold. but is it the coaches fault for that. i mean, it been like this the whole season, i would imagine that the coaches and yes even the GM and team meeting are discussing this. so is it the mgr, the coaches, the players or is it the atmosphere of the clubhouse.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 12:27 AM) Much prefer to stick with Saladino and see what he can do for the rest of the season. in a way i agree. i would rather see saladino really get a try out at 3b. but then again, in this time, he has shown to me, that he can handle the position he is playing. claim him, and don't play him until spring.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 11:29 PM) Out of that I think I got that Patrick Kane is a blackhawks player and things could possibly happen to him or not. oh i wish there was a icon of someone slapping their fore head.... that is funny and i needed that.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 11:22 PM) This is a bunch of words that reveal nothing. you may very well be right in this thoughts. but it does cover some questions that should be talked about ... at this time. except for the stupidity of this whole thing, that is front and center. it also gives some options as to what might or may happen, esp with Kane traveling or leaving his home town state. again, all i am hedging on is preseason is right around the corner and it is all quiet on the hawks front. there are 2 questions i am wondering on, is the nhl will suspend Kane, or will the Hawks suspend Kane. here is a question, if the police hasn't charge him by, lets say end of sept..... what are the hawks going to do???

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 11:19 PM) If you go to the Baseball-Reference version, they've got just under $90 million committed to 9 players in 2016. They have 2 guys, possibly up to 4, who are likely to be offered arbitration: Jones, Garcia, Jennings, and Flowers. The first 3 guys all probably would come in around under $2 million while Flowers probably would be close to $4 million. If all 4 of those are offered arbitration that's close to $10 million, maybe a tiny bit less but close enough. Offering arbitration to those 4 thus puts the White Sox at $100 million. If, as some have noted, the White Sox pick up the option on Alexei Ramirez, which I think they will personally, that's $110 million for 14 players. Filling out the roster with minimum salary guys takes the roster up to $115-million ish with 0 additions, which is almost exactly where the total payroll was this year. If the White Sox decline Alexei's option, they will have about $9 million to play with to get back to this year's payroll-ish. Could they go beyond this year's payroll? The suggested offers of extensions to Samardzija suggests they might be able to, but they also made statements saying that they were able to afford Cabrera because of increased season ticket sales after the trade for Samardzija and signings of LaRoche, Robertson. I believe based on their attendence figures that they saw roughly 2000 extra season ticket packages sold this year, in addition probably to a number of smaller packages. Based on the 2015 season I find it difficult to believe that many of them will renew and they will likely also lose some of the old ones, so my expectation remains a revenue decrease rather than increase. They were expecting that being competitive in 2015 would give them the gradually growing ticket sales base to extend Samardzija; a failed season = a much bigger revenue drop than anticipated. Given that, I think it's optimistic to see them keeping the payroll roughly steady this year, but that's also basically where they've committed to be. I still find it unlikely that we will see payroll growth this year, but can't rule out other revenue stream growth such as streaming/MLB general revenue growth. My guess is they have Alexei's contract to play with. If Alexei's picked up, then you see some minor, Beckham-level additions to fill out the roster. Other than that, they will have to use the trade market and move payroll in order to take payroll on. hey Balta..... this is really nice worksheet. great info.

got this from hockey trade rumor. Barry Rozner of the Daily Herald: The Blackhawks don’t know yet if Patrick Kane will be available to them when the season starts. If Kane is charged, the NHL can suspend Kane indefinitely. If the NHL does nothing, the Blackhawks could do nothing, look to trade him, release him, or suspend him.The Blackhawks have continually warned Kane about his off-ice behavior. The Blackhawks likely know more about what is going on than the rest of us.Rozner thinks the Blackhawks have talked the NHL about the Kane situation, have likely received calls from teams on Kane, and are considering all

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) We'll free up nearly $10M by getting rid of Bonifacio, Beckham, & the ghost of Jeff Keppinger. Throw in Shark & Alexei and we could be looking at a good $30M in savings. Obviously there will be raises that offsets a portion of this money, but we should be able to add some pieces in free agency this offseason. the FA rt is not the answer to all questions. the sox needs help at 3b, cat even possibility at pitcher. to to speak of a no hitting SS. i am not even going to touch the DH. so with all due respect, we fix those holes via FA???? how or whom?? there is going to a need to make some trades.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 10:15 PM) Because he does dumb s*** like not challenge in the bottom of the 9th and bats Salidino 2nd and runs out of pitchers at least once a year. I can't stand RV's tactics. His "teaching" and "leadership" are more amorphous (and harder to critique) but I see enough with just his piss poor tactics to move on. and coop is his asst coach and a direct line to help or in helping RV.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 09:57 PM) Wow, didn't realize that either. IMO the manager is essentially like a principal and your specialized coaches are like teachers. While a principal is the highest regarded person in a school, its the teachers teaching. Robin may be at the top but I blame hitting woes on the hitting coach and I blame pitching woes on the pitching coach. and if they were give an outline to follow to prepare the students, when the time of test comes around and all found out that the outline was wrong. who is at fault. the hierarchy here will make excuses.
