  1. i will say this again, many yrs of wasted talent b/c of the owners never finishing off what was started. the most of the 90's.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 04:15 AM) My point was that he's a longtime Sox pitcher who has been overall average due to those good seasons and his below average seasons now; and he is definitely not the most hated player in White Sox history. He's closer to most beloved player in Sox history than most hated. and as a fan, i would want him to leave baseball on a solid note, retire. but his stats this yr, it really isn't all that bad.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 04:13 AM) I still think that deal we gave him was the right move at the time and I'm sure a lot of posters on this forum will agree with that. In hindsight, it sucks and maybe the Sox should have been a bit more observant of how poorly he pitched in the last month of 2011. Still, Danks got a fair market value contract for the pitcher he was at the time, which was a solid #2 or #3 left handed starter. Buehrle got less money, but he was also a lot older. If the injury didn't happen, the Danks deal would have worked out better than the Buehrle deal. i still stand by that as well. only b/c i am maintaining that the sox asked the danks family to drop his agent. so i think they owed it to him. ref the bold, i agree as well.
  4. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 04:09 AM) Selection eligibility[edit] Players are eligible for selection in the Rule 5 draft who are not on their major league organization's 40-man roster and: – were 18 or younger on the June 5 preceding their signing and this is the fifth Rule 5 draft upcoming; or – were 19 or older on the June 5 preceding their signing and this is fourth Rule 5 draft upcoming. These exemption periods (one year longer than those in effect previously) went into effect as part of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement in October 2006. The change took effect immediately, exempting many players from the 2006 Rule 5 draft even though they had been signed in some cases more than four years before the new agreement came into effect. Prior to the rule change, players were exempt from the first two or three Rule 5 drafts held after their signing (regardless of the year they were drafted), rather than from the first three or four Rule 5 drafts after their signing. Sorry hope this helps We draft a lot of college players so a lot of guys with three/four years service are eligible if not on 40 man. Other team gets them for 50k and must keep on ML roster all year or offer back to original team/work out trade. This was how we got Nieto who I would not protect. thanks for your hard work in looking that up. but with ref to experience players who are on a contract, can they be expose to the rule 5 and not be protected for the draft??
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 04:06 AM) Danks has been average to below average this year. If it wasn't for his shoulder problems, he could have been one of the better Sox pitchers of the past decade. He was absolutely money in 2008 and had 4 seasons where he put up 3.7 WAR per season on average. i am a danks fan and thank you for posting that. it was an injury that derailed him.
  6. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:01 AM) If facts have anything to do with the determination, his legacy as owner of the White Sox will be a very poor one, even with the accomplishment of 2005. i am going to play devil's advocate. shouldn't the world series give the owners a free ride??? considering how many yrs it was since the other world series win.
  7. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 02:58 AM) Considering we gave up a draft choice, pay him more and signed him for more years, Melky was a far worse signing than Laroche. And yet, people act like Melky has done his job. He's been terrible. respectful disagree with your thinking. proof, look at the stats and then tell me.
  8. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 01:47 AM) There is all kinds of free agent pitching available next offseason. Position players (especially C, 3B) are going to be very difficult to acquire. there are going to be some interesting names esp in pitching. some of the teams, i feel, would not give a QO of, lets say 16 mil. but for the long haul, the sox have no choice but to trade for some help. esp in since there is really no help coming in those positions. btw, hahn did try to address one position but that went to hell and a hand basket, davidson at 3b. this is what i have been saying, only trading for 1 player. this is a perfect example...... that 1 player was to save the team and be a future player at 3b for a long time. it didn't work. why did they not get a 2nd player just to make sure.
  9. if there is a poll and Ty Cobbs is the standard of the most hated in the history. i still say royce clayton is right there. can you imagine every day in spring training, no one wants to sit with you. you have table all by yourself. now some players were not good teammates, but did that count as being hated?? perfect example michael barret from the northside. now, this hatred of AJ, i know with minny he was hated but wasn't he like in chi??
  10. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 12:08 AM) Yep, if they are under big league contract they are part of your 40 man maybe you can help in some info. i always thought that after the season, the sox can put waivers on anyone ..... keep them on waivers until a decision is needed. now with the rule 5 draft, do those players in question, can they be not on the 40-man roster??? thereby making them available to anyone.
  11. does anyone knows when and who will need to get protected..... meaning minor league prospects.
  12. Quinarvy, i would sign MB in a heartbeat, not unless he has a QO, is asking for 13 mil and esp if he wants a 3 yr contract. now with Q.... i am lost and i will wait until the season is over.
  13. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) Making matters even more galling for Sox fans about Wells and Swisher was the fact that as soon as they left the team they started putting up good numbers again. Remember the time Clayton showed up dressed for a game in tennis shoes? Wouldn't put on his spikes??? LOL. Jerry Manuel blew a gasket over that one. Mark i remember the time after 9/11 everyone stood up for the anthem ...... except clayton.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) This is the first reporter I have seen that mentioned Ventura NOT being safe. good point, i totally didn't really digest the section on the sox. excellent catch.
  15. this was a great article and i kinda got to give you credit for being understanding and tolerant. i would have imagine you probable could have given a lot example of , what i would consider his legacy. total and complete miscalculation on almost all of the ventures or opportunity to build on. mismanagement and mishandling of golden opportunities presented. and esp in the last 15 yrs total inept running of the org, except for 1 yr.
  16. 2 of the biggest dick i have seen on the sox, 1 i witness his "get lost kid" when the youngster wanted a autograph. that was Belle. the other is Royce Clayton, the same one when in spring training no one wanted to sit with him at a table.
  17. i really thought some might have posted here. but oh well. i will start with this. Dan Jennings Pitcher - protect Jake Petricka Pitcher - protect Jeff Samardzija Pitcher - free agent / do not protect David Robertson Pitcher - protect Jose Quintana Pitcher - protect Carlos Rodon Pitcher - protect Zach Putnam Pitcher - protect Chris Sale Pitcher - protect Matt Albers Pitcher - protect John Danks Pitcher with his contract / do not protect Zach Duke Pitcher - protect Tyler Saladino - protect Trayce Thompson - protect Adam Eaton - protect Carlos Sanchez - protect J.B. Shuck - protect Jose Abreu - protect Avisail Garcia - protect Adam LaRoche with his contract / do not protect Gordon Beckham - do not protect, unless the fo needs him. Alexei Ramirez - protect Geovany Soto do not protect ////// undecided Melky Cabrera --protect Tyler Flowers - protect Frankie Montas Pitcher - protect Michael Ynoa Pitcher - protect Junior Guerra Pitcher - protect Chris Beck Pitcher - protect Scott Carroll Pitcher do not protect Erik Johnson Pitcher - protect Daniel Webb Pitcher - protect Kevan Smith do not protect Matt Davidson do not protect Leury Garcia - protect Adrian Nieto - protect Rob Brantly - protect Micah Johnson - protect going in, the sox has 38 players protected, with this new tally per my opinion i have added 8 more that i would not protect. the reason being, the young players that need to be added to the 40 man roster.
  18. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 07:51 PM) With respect I disagree. Catching is almost a black hole. Add in the poor defense from both Flowers and Soto and you have a real issue in my opinion. Soto would make a good back up playing once or twice a week but no more than that. Flowers is simply a lost cause. Mark you are correct, they need to address this some how.
  19. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) We also had the one of the worst defense in the league. If we could get a full season of good defense at 3B, full season of Sanchez at 2B, and get a defensive RF who could also bring a bat, yes I am talking about J Hey or J Up, our defense would immensely improve. Gillaspie, Micah, and Avi were some of the worst fielders at their position this year. Great defense would further help our pitching, that plus assuming Rodon would take a big leap in his second year, we might suddenly be a favorite to a WC spot without comprising our pitching strength. while that is a great idea and one i was for, but now, if the sox do not make the protected top 10, are you or anyone willing to waste a first rounder as a penalty for signing a player with a QO????
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 07:13 PM) The argument is pretty simple. The White Sox have the weakest lineup in the big leagues. They will not win unless they can upgrade their lineup. The White Sox have excess pitching. The White Sox have spent their last 2 first round draft picks on pitcher in addition to trading for pitchers (Montas) and picked up other pitchers in trades. Trading from our strength to partially fill our weakness makes general sense. Finding an actual match is obviously a challenge, but "A great rotation and a terrible lineup" leads to a season like the one we're watching right now. this is very true. the sox does not have ready to crack the lineup that they can trade for assets. they have a really nice group of young pitchers really on the cusp of separating them selves from other pitchers, regardless of which team they are on. the sox has deep holes that were not address last off season. the only way to do that is thru fa rt or thru trades.
  21. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 01:23 PM) Why does everyone want to trade Quintana? It doesn't make sense unless you're getting a guy like Frazier our Arenado in return, and even then, Q should be pretty much the entire package. His value is insane, and a package that was suggested earlier in this thread for just Arenado (which included Montas, Micah Johnson, and Adams) should, in addition to someone like Arenado, net the team a young, proven 125+ wRC+ catcher with great defense. If we're not getting something worth 5+ WAR and cost controlled for Q, then why not keep the trio of cost controlled lefties that are likely to produce 15-18 WAR at the top of the rotation for the next 4+ years? You get two decent starters behind that, and you have the potential for a 20-25 WAR rotation, which is a playoff rotation with even a decent bullpen and offense. while it would be nice to keep Q, the sox needs, in addition of acquiring new players via trading off some of the other prospects. but 1 key player who can really bring in 2+ higher players in 1 fell swoop. and that is Q.
  22. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) Missed the game last night so I just finished catching the highlights. The Sox really need to get Trayce's bat in the lineup every day for the rest of the season to get more of an idea of what he has to offer at the big league level. His defense, speed and XBH potential would certainly help this lineup. Rodon looked good but I noticed he only threw 66 of his 116 pitches for strikes. Was he a tad off or have a rough inning? and if not for that reason, just b/c he has the hot bat right now. screw adam laroche and his contract
  23. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) I can. A 2016 rotation of Sale, Q, Rodon, Samardzija and Danks would not allow room for Buehrle. Plus, there Erik Johnson to take into consideration. Don't get me wrong, been a huge fan of Buehrle for a long time. If the Sox can move on from Samardzija and find an NL team willing to take on Danks for one season, then the idea of Buehrle becomes much more realistic. The Sox could roll out a 2016 rotation of Sale, Q, Rodon, Buehrle and E.Johnson. The Sox would still have Montas ( unless traded) at AAA with Fulmer likely joining him at some point. Buehrle would be a good fit to use as a stop gap for 2016 while Fulmer and Montas develop. I'd take Buehrle over Samardzija and/or Danks any time. however, if the sox are sitting outside the protected top 10, and any front end pitcher, MB included gets a QO. i don't think the sox will go after them.
  24. yup, our beleaguered team, the white sox steady at #7 http://nypost.com/2015/08/22/forecasting-h...ting-mlb-teams/

QUOTE (wsiskel @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 10:39 PM) Glasnow is arguably the toughest pitcher to square up...in all of baseball. Though, 0-4 with 3Ks is still 0-4 with 3Ks. 1 game on a 0 fer does not make a career...... but it also don't bode well either.
