  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 10:11 PM) However you cut it, we have Adam LaRoche for at least next year. The good news? Trayce Thompson had a great AAA campaign and is an ideal 4th outfielder because he can hit LHP and spell LaRoche. He's a plus defender. So, I feel happier about that. well, lets hope he comes out of the gate better then he did this yr. next yr will be a clean slate.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 01:50 AM) Marcus Semien now has more errors (31) than RBIs (28) i am coming late to the party, but let me ask this, does anyone really thought, Semien would be playing SS with the sox if the trade didn't go thru. he would have been holding down 2b and maybe later switch to 3b. i really doubt he would have all those errors there.
  3. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) I've always wondered if it effected his hitting. Having issues with his right foot can't make it easy to have a good base of support while hitting. Fractured bones in his arch is what basically ended Frank Thomas career. that point i didn't think of.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) Making a QO to Shark is a win-win for the Sox. If he rejects, the Sox get a comp pick. If he accepts, they get him back but are only committed to him for one more year. and the sox would reap the value of shark recouping his value thru the positive stats.
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) I'm very curious also. Michael Vick broke his leg back in the day and came back as fast ever. has ptact has given his opinion on the injury???
  6. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 11:01 PM) It was actually 20 thousand on SportsVision to be more accurate but your point is well taken. Also something that isn't well known is that the Sox offered Caray more to stay for 1982 than he was paid by the Cubs but he left directly because of SportsVision. Remember SportsVision? Well it just so happens I've sent to Daniel a long article on the history of SportsVision, the reasoning behind it, what went wrong and recollections from one of its first anchors. I'm sure he'll publish it when the time is right but I think those who lived through that era will enjoy reading it. It was a brilliant idea but it was ahead of its time. Mark again, for me, the sox ruined it themselves, they could have taken over or at least equal the popularity of the northside. but that was ruined due to bad ideas and a complete mismanagement is a very important block of yrs.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) I find that hard to believe given the signings of Bonifacio and Beckham...they actually signed exactly the right kind of players - able to hit RH, play multiple positions, run the bases, can use them in several spots and move the weaker defender to DH and actually be able to keep everyone well rested - but I sure can't rule out that they're as inept as you say. an excellent post and thought process.
  8. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) What are we thinking an Upton deal would be? 5/75? if you are asking in general to anyone, for me, i am not smart enuf to figure that out. that is why those who works in any FO has yrs of experience.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) I have seen a lot of sox pitchers over my time. Peak Chris Sale is better than all of them. He has the competition of a Jack McDowell, the cunning of a Mark Buehrle, and the pure stuff of a Bobby Jenks. If he can keep this up for a decade or so, I would call him the best I have ever seen before. All time is a tough comparison because of the different eras, but he would be in the discussion for sure. you have a great point and i will not fault it. i am just saying, he is still too young in his career to name him as the best. i would like to see more yrs and the same results. i get me wrong, i am saying he is special and when there was a discussion of trading him during the deadline, i was against it, b/c he is a special kind of a pitcher.
  10. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 07:19 AM) Very hard to say since you can't compare era's. Sox have had a lot of truly tremendous pitchers in their history. Let's see how Sale stacks up in another five years or so. He can be one of the best but 'the best', I'm not sure of that one even talent wise. Mark i can see and enjoy the happiness and all for Sale attitude.... but the sox have had some great pitchers. wilbur wood tommy john jack mcdowell lamarr hoyt just to name a few. and this is in my era.......
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 05:10 AM) Q: Would you approve of this move? Robin gets fired Monday and Ozzie signs a 2-year deal with easy out-clauses for the team regarding behavior issues of him and his family. I would take it, though I would feel sorry for Robin. He seems like a good guy and no doubt he knows baseball. It's just not working out on the South Side for him as manager. HELL NO!!!! that ship has sailed and was sunk.
  12. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 06:24 AM) Look at how often the exact same thing happens on all of the other 29 teams and then decide if it seems like "a lot." i agree with that main thought, but i will disagree for this reason. the 2 contract the sox org has to eat were that of keppinger and emilio. and all the yrs that the sox been owned by this group of owners, i think these 2 were the only ones that has happen like this. again that is the best of my recollection. now the owners would force the team and the fans to suffer until contracts like adam and dunn has expired that is more likely their SOP of operating.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 05:07 AM) Nice to win and split it, 3-3 against a team that is better than the Sox. 3-3 is a good season series all things considered. You have to wonder. If we had Madden are the Sox 19 over and the Cubs five under .500? Maybe. Now as far as today's nice win ... nice to see the old winning formula for games in the Cell. Good pitching plus lift and pull. The return of the homer and good starting pitching usually is a winning formula for the Sox. in concept i agree. however the 1 problem i have is the way the team came out. loosing..... my main question and i know there is no answer, but was that stretch of loosing, was that the manager fault for not having the team prepared??? was it the players fault for not being prepared???? or dumb luck?
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 10:01 PM) they seem to do well with pitching. Maybe they should keep the current ones for pitching and hire new specialists for hitting. agreed.
  15. there are several pitchers that are on the waivers that are interesting. claim them and force the team to either let them go or pull them back
  16. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 06:47 PM) "1984 happened" and sent the Cubs on their way to national stardom and they've never looked back. And by "happened" we are talking about a "winning" (hey, there's THAT word again!) team that was televised coast-to-coast on WGN with Harry Caray leading the way. That combination of Caray and WGN with a winning baseball product was unbelievably potent, and the popularity that ensued was immeasurable. And today, the Cubs are still reaping the benefits 18 years after Caray's death. The problem for the Sox organization and for our fans is that it could have been us having that same experience and impact the year before in 1983, when WE had the exciting baseball product. And WE got there first in terms of there had not been a winner of any sort in the city prior to '83 for many years. But instead of pumping that '83 team into 22 million homes at that time 50, 60 times of year with Caray behind the mic, creating the aura of excitement all around the city and even the country for the Sox like he did for the Cubs, Geniuses Reinsdorf & Einhorn went the route of pay subscription TV, and only 15,000 homes got to see that team that year. You talk about a crying shame! Virtually kept a secret, you might say, except for the 32 games they benevolently bestowed upon us on Channel 32 that year. Reinsdorf and Einhorn inherited both Caray and WGN from Bill Veeck, and as a sign of things to come, you might say, the first in a series of bungling decisions that would go onto define this failing ownership, the first thing they did was to get rid of both. And they, Jerry & Eddie, supposedly two great businessmen, or so we were told - HA! You could have fooled me!! we all went thru this discussion of the owners ineptness at running the white sox org of baseball. many. many too much times that the sox owners screw up.
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 05:44 AM) The kid Zangari 4-4, 2 RBIs. i am really surprise and happy at his success so far. i hope he continues to develop as is.
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 06:29 PM) That would be a perfect day. and at a perfect time

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 03:29 PM) And the end result is going to be...we paid $9 million for him this season, the A's paid $1.5 million, the A's will have those guys for 4-5 more years, and we will keep seeing comments here about how the White Sox minor leagues has no depth while wondering how that could possibly have happened. The White Sox have called up several players this year from their minors and just by having them be non-terrible, they've helped this team to winning streaks (Tyler, Trayce). Depth can be nice too. Counting the draft picks...we gave up 6 players from our minor leagues for the privilege of the 2015 season and we'll be lucky to get 1 back next summer. when the trade happen, the state of the system was not where the org could afford to loose any prospects, for an incredible idea of making the playoff. granted the prospects are some yrs away. look at the feeble attempt to rush MJ to play 2nd base at the beginning of the season. in order to see how ready the system is, what is the state of the pitching rotation. even before Rodon was again rush / forced into the starting rotation. next season, the sox loose shark and are they going to depend on an unproven Fulmer or take a chance and resort to EJ into the rotation. the system is still a few yrs away, but for immediate help, the org will need to look else where.
  20. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) In order to get a good bat you're going to have to trade a good prospect, right? So what difference does it make whether they give up a draft pick vs a prospect already established in our system? while i am not taking sides, i am looking at the system when i am answering this post. the difference is a prospect that is developed is one that may make the team in a shorter period of time. a draft pick is one who will take at least 2 + yrs to develop properly, depending on the quality of the pick. now, the sox have been lucky and see a quick results in a couple of their picks, depending on Fulmer progression, but that is the pick were rather high in the first round. not all draft picks will be like that, unless again if it is another high pick.
  21. quote name='LDF' date='Aug 15, 2015 -> 03:20 PM' post='322218 ok, but as of right now, it will be a guess on who was given a QO. it will be a tough decision for the FO (sox front office) to decide on who is available via FO oops free agency FA or not. except for a possible of a couple of fa's. this is a weak selections.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) No. His strikeout rate has fallen massively from great to barely above average. He has continued improving his walk rate throughout his career and he's walking as few of people as ever, but he is no longer a solid strikeout pitcher. Therefore, people are hitting him, sometimes they're hitting him hard, and there's a generally weak defense behind him so he's getting constantly hammered. He's not obviously unlucky on HR balls, he's not obviously unlucky on giving up hits, he just has switched from being a pitcher who was above average with strikeouts to an average strikeout pitcher. here is my last question, i got to go, but can shark rebuild his skills and that will be a investment for a team who needs pitchers. either way, another yr on a QO is still a good gamble.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) He 100% will be given a QO. Unless his leg falls off over the next 2 months. ok, but as of right now, it will be a guess on who was given a QO. it will be a tough decision for the FO to decide on who is available via FO or not. except for a possible of a couple of fa's. this is a weak selections.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) There is one more possibility I have yet to see considered. Since it would be bad for the White Sox, you could even count this as a prediction, because it would fit with everything else that has happened with this trade. The White Sox offer Samardzija a Qualifying Offer and he turns it down under the logic expressed in this thread. Teams with pitching needs and money snatch up Price, Cueto, and other guys who don't have draft pick compensation attached to them, teams with pitching needs but less money look elsewhere to guys who weren't good enough to be offered a QO. Samardzija sits there unsigned in January. A couple teams call but nothing serious. Teams have spent their money. No team goes crazy like the Padres did this year in trying to sign big names. Training camp starts, Samardzija is unsigned, teams have filled out their rosters. The White Sox toss him a small offer just in case he wants to accept it. Maybe he does and we blow another year of EJ's career blocked, maybe he doesn't. If he doesn't, he sits there unsigned through training camp. No major injuries happen that force anyone to call. On IIRC June 1, draft pick compensation expires for guys who were offered QOs but remained unsigned. Teams now consider Jeff Samardzija a possible trade deadline addition and he remains unsigned until after June 1 when he finally gets a small deal to finish out the year. The draft pick compensation that people have been telling me would be so great for the last 9 months...never appears. Rick Hahn's failure is complete. re.... bold, i would rewrite that to say the sox FO. b/c no matter what, what ever happens in an possible trade, still has to go thru KW and then the owners. now, he is a question, is the shark who pitched this yr the same pitcher who built up his value as a pitcher?????
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) I'd enjoy Gordon alex gordon may be a nice pickup. however if he has not been given a QO. that is my whole idea, to concentrate on players, age, talent and of course those who weren't given a QO.
