QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) Of course they only draft players that they can sign. Why would they draft players that won't sign? This happened around draft time as well. You clamored for them to take all these players that were definitely going to college. That doesn't make any sense. and for a long time, they drafted players who they can sign, and forgot about players who had certain agents, those that may wanted a better salary etc..... that has stop b/c of the salary cap but still they still need to be aggressive in their scouting and players/prospects.

Ventura "absolutely" wants to manage White Sox next season
LDF replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) Plus the added presence of Buddy Bell. They tried KW at third too, I think. That would wipe out Konerko...not sure about Thome. Juan Uribe, player-manager!!! no way!! btw wasn't Don Kessinger the last player manager the sox had??? -

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 04:20 AM) That's the way the organization will replace Ventura. In that case I have no problem with him finishing his contract. I don't want another liked player, even Jim Thome. here is most posters criticizing the owners on not hiring a manager with no experience yet, some are willing to give the managers job to Thome on a silver platter.... isn't that the same inconsistency that may have gotten the team in trouble??? -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) He talked about Fulmer, Michalczewsi and Alvarez, all unprompted. The Clark bit was because we (FS) asked about him. Josh Norris from BA was there too, commented on some of the same guys. excellent can't wait to see the comments made

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 04:58 AM) And that's with Montas, Danish, Adams, Guerrero, Beck and Jaye in the wings. Then the possibilities of Erwin and Hickman from this years draft. Now to start trading some of it for hitting. hitting and positional players are really needed.

QUOTE (beautox @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 05:43 AM) I don't mind Eaton in CF even with his below average defense if the sox don't have anything with Thompson; but if Trayce is the second coming of Alex Rios with the bat and an above average defender in CF that would be a huge boost for this organization. Moving Eaton to LF allows his bat and defense to profile very similarly to that of Alex Gordon especially if the second half power hitting version of Eaton is here to stay .320/.407/.479 the BABIP is unsustainable (.409) but maybe his ISO is (.160); Moving Eaton out of CF and placing an above average defender like trayce there is a swing of nearly 20-25+ in DRS seeing how Eaton in the past in left field has been an above average defender . nice opinion i agree with half of what you posted but the sox are in a precarious situations or time here. yes the future does indeed look extremely good from a pitching stand and yes the sox are going to need to do some trading. but the time is now. the clock is ticking.... this 3 yr plan is a fools statement to keep the barbarians on the gate pacified. at the same time they keep moving the goal line to accommodate their mistakes. be aggressive in trades and draft picks. be harsh in some of the prospects the sox have and make the right player selection. but most of all, they will NEED to delve into the FA market..... they have no choice. make another splash in it and screw the salary.... spend the money now... they will reap the profits later when the fans comes out, the other investments will start to pay off, and most importantly, players contracts will time out. at that time, they will have the farm to replace the players.

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal
LDF replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) Shark taking the QO and the White Sox trading Quintana as a result is not the worst thing in the world. Sale/Shark/Rodon/Johnson/Danks is a nice rotation if shark bait take the QO, then shark bait becomes trade bait. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) This is correct. KW signed Melky Cabrera on his own. Supposedly Hahn thought they could have gotten similar production for a lesser price. KW wanted to stand pat in the middle of July to hold out for a last run, Hahn wanted to trade Samardzija in early-mid July. KW decided to wait. a question, was Adam LaRoche signings .... was that a kw or hahn doing???

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 08:22 PM) I wonder if the Sox will keep Fulmer limited to three innings or possibly allow an extra inning or two if Fulmer is pitching well. Going to be following this game on line tonight. another interesting thing with Fulmer, i am wondering if the sox will bring up Fulmer next yr. pretty much as they did with Rodon. the thing is i see Rodon further along in his development than Fulmer, i am really impress with the way the sox worked his innings and i am sure working with coop.

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) If we are looking at his $10mm as too much then we have a whole other set of problems for this team going forward. Realistically, let's say we go with another option, say Freese or Uribe. We buy out Alexei for $1mm. Sign either of those guys for 2yr, $12-14mm contracts. Is having two years committed to either of those players AND at $7mm each + $1mm buyout (so $8mm next year) really worth it compared to keeping Alexei for a 1 year obligation at $10mm?? I also don't like this argument of "look at his first half stats he's declining" -- so he was so old that he was declining for the first 80 games, but the second half, after playing everyday all of a sudden he's fresh and playing well, but it should be discounted? Look at the season as a whole. Each of 162 games count just as much. Is he too much of a streaky player at times? Yes. But each game counts for the same. I don't think anybody here would be surprised if he finishes with a .265 BA. and very similar stats to his career. Just a tick below. If we are going with the his first half stats argument then we have to do the same for the whole Sox team. Eaton, Melky, etc. In terms of WAR or OPS, blah blah blah. His range is declining, his arm is still strong, he may make boneheaded plays at times ... but that is why 3rd base is perfect for him IMO. Again, the argument will be his WAR at SS compared to 3B, blah blah blah. Sorry, I don't play/armchair GM on an Excel spreadsheet. I am going by the eye test from what I see watching 140+ games a year and against what is realistically available in the FA market. I will take .270, a dozen homers, 65RBI, 35 doubles, and 25 SB, a good arm, and reliable health from my 3B for a 1 year, $10mm commitment over what is out there any day. nice post, now if anyone remembers, during the ASG break, RV, Hahn and some other had a mtg with Alexei to iron something out. after that, he started to perform .....

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) Stats don't lie but people do and as stated can twist them into whatever they choose to make of them. To me baseball is more than a game of numbers and all you have to do is look at the boneheaded plays Ramirez has made over the years (including his 360 spin this year in Toronto which was very humorous) to see he checks out of games on a regular basis, can't hit in cold weather and always seems to have some sort of issue impacting his performance. Again with respect, I've seen enough of him and it's time to move on. Speaking of stats, here's one for you. Last I looked Ramirez was next to last in WAR among all qualifying shortstops in MLB, 25th out of 26. Baseball is more than offense, there's defense, base running and simply knowing the game. Ramirez has had some very nice offensive seasons. Those are counterbalanced by his "baseball - stupidness" The Sox have had a lot of those guys to be sure but Alexei may be the poster boy for that. Which is why I say his career has been a disappointment. He showed so much in 2008. Oh well. Mark i like Alexei and i think if some thing he does not like or happens, it really affects him, and affects his performance.... he can't shake those things off as other players. now i am a fan of his and maybe i am blind, but i don't think so. he will be a nice option to pick up. he only has 1 more yr to his contract and Anderson should be up. unlike another player, the sox will have to deal with the length of the contract.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) Well first, look at the last few (say, 3) drafts. They team isn't drafting Jared Mitchell and Keenyn Walker anymore. They also aren't drafting "safe" college arms in order to sign for slot. And they are doing overslot picks lower in the draft and spending extra money to do so. Also, the new rules have helped the Sox immensely, and they've used basically their full pool (in 2014 they in fact went over) every year. No working to save money for that sake. That's a big change too. Then there are the personnel. Some are the same, some are different. Hostetler, who is not a through-and-through Sox guy, is now basically running the draft. And there are other scouting and front office personnel changes. Coaches in the minors have changed in some cases, though Mr. Bell is still around. This doesn't even touch on the LatAm stuff, which has gone from dead in the water to now starting to churn out talent state-side as the 16-year olds grow up a bit. Point is, the club is doing some very different things now than they were just three years ago (or 2 or 4) on the amateur side. People seem to think the club is still just drafting either Walker/Mitchell types or Broadway types. That simply isn't true. excellent post. i think that the sox still does select draft picks that they feel as they can sign. however i think they also manipulate their draft strategy to make it happen, saving money elsewhere to reach the amount they will need to sign the player. this is pretty much what some teams are doing now, but with more fanfare. i just hope they don't fall into a rut in picking safe picks. but i also agree there is no more, not going after specific players whose agent is this person or that person. i think they need to continue to be aggressive in their selections.... but either way, i agree with you and again excellent analysis.

Ventura "absolutely" wants to manage White Sox next season
LDF replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 11:15 AM) I still say the biggest mistake they made with Ventura is providing him with a staff that didn't have a guy(bench coach) that had previously been a ML manager. Having a mentor-type bench coach, like a Gene Lamont, I think, would have helped Robin immensely. i thought that was suppose to be coop job, to advise and mentor him. -
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 05:28 AM) What is surprising about Danks' total? He threw 193.2 last year and is on pace for 180-190 this year depending on whether he gets 5 or 6 more starts. I'm confused, do you think he should have more or less? less..... i mean i see just 1 side of his pitching and that is the win / lost record. then i look at the stats and that tells me i am way off on how many innings he pitched. pretty much like a quiet 180 innings... remember 1 thing, i am a fan on Danks. and still am.
-
so far, i was really surprise at the amount of innings pitched overall. not including tonite, Rodon has 118 +/- Danks at 154 Q at 177 Sale at 184 Shark at 188 i am very surprise at how the sox are really handling Rodon and i am surprise at the innings Danks has pitched.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 11:54 PM) Instead of ridiculing our ideas, come up with your own and contribute to the thread then. i agree with him.... for pete sake, the season is not over, the FA haven't gotten a QO or not. plus the biggest question mark is the protected top 10. i not saying this is a crappy thread, i am just saying that it is too early.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) Settling out of court allows people to see what they want to see, but it does allow for doubt to be introduced either way. The difference being all kinds of trail related detail won't be drug out in public with a settlement that would in a trial. excellent!!!!

this was like the conversation that was done back in the late 90"s and earlier. while i really can't say either way, i just like to clarify this. is what is being discuss is, an elite pitcher whom most would agree, if he came or is in the NL, does that mean that his stats may be watered down. as oppose to an equal pitcher in talent in the AL???? the reason why i am curious is FA is right around the corner and this is an interesting subject. many thanks.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 12:33 PM) Anytime you miss the playoffs it's a failure. It doesn't matter what team you are. This will be the 7th straight season this team has missed the playoffs. This will be the 4th straight under the KW/Hahn/Robin regime. No worries their jobs are safe though... Just to think... If they would have just undergone a true rebuild plan in three of those 7 seasons, how much better off they'd be in. Just keep "retooling" Rick and Kenny, it's working out greeeeeatt! you know, many posters have said that the sox should have rebuild before now. now this is not against you but i would like to point out one things. if the rebuild did happen before, the sox may have have acquire Jose A .... if the sox had a better record in 2010, would the sox have been able to select Sale? how bout the other positive things that happen even now, could that have happen. bottom line it is what it is. that is why i have ranted on the performances of the FO, and they are still going to make no changes.

QUOTE (staxx @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 04:07 AM) Dayan is the same player we had before. Dont get excited and theres not a reason he should play infront of other young players. while you have a great point. however there are several factors in play. overall salary restriction, he can really sign a team friendly contract, can he platoon with adam laroche, save some salary for a bigger deal and finally do the sox have that player who can play as a platoon at dh?

QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 10:36 PM) Viciedo with 3 more hits, now at .336. Some team will pick him up if Sox don't promote him. should the sox give him another tryout, maybe at dh??

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 10:26 PM) Sox grabbed the more interesting 3B lottery ticket. really, why?? i see Matt Dominguez as the better player with a better stat at the mlb level than the one they got. then again, many have other opinions and that is why i was asking why.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 08:54 PM) I probably learn more about the White Sox watching the opposing broadcast. Hawk just isn't very educational. different time, different era on announcers and color man who was the face of a baseball team. they were legends in their time. notice i am mentioning time, these new guys goes to some sort of training ..... the era of a Dizzy Dean with no education doing the play by play or color man work. what these guys did was provide a games perspective from a person who has played the game and can give that little extra excitement.

Tor claimed 3b - Matt Dominguez from the waivers. i am wondering if the sox had a chance to claim him or did Tor claimed him before the sox..... does anyone know the order of the waiver list.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) Future looks great. So how come people blame the FO for the future looking great? It puzzles me it is relative easy, take into account a time from 1999 + or - and until 2014. there was really no future. look at the failure at about everything, except for 1 magical yr of 2005. i would also add look at, in my opinion, one person job. that person is Hahn. now i would also say that he is in the FO as well. now i was implying the future, look at the present and esp the last several past yr where the present parent team is not considered a team of promise but a team of what ineptness has accomplished. that too falls on the FO. there is 2 side of this org and this is where i am been biiitching about .... again, pls don't try to cherry pick post to make a post make a point. i have not flip flopped on my opinion as some who are afraid of making one. btw, what is your point of this present team and the past???? and what is your opinion of the future??? do you not see the improvement???
