QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 07:06 PM) If you want a movie that is an absolute waste of two hours, check out snowpiercer. I can't even explain how bad it was. i will name Marie Antoinette movie... i wasted 30 mins + / -
  3. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 07:48 PM) ok I'll pray but I'll warn you I don't think Hahn can get anywhere near as deep in JR's pocket as Williams can. you may have a good point, but this system has be the results of a disaster called KW tenure.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 09:47 PM) How many people in this thread treat the comp pick as the next sure fire Spencer Adams? I think it's 100% fair to be down on it and to point out that there's a good chance whoever the comp pick is, if there even is one, will never do as much as Adams has already done and to keep pointing that out. The average fWAR of comp picks, as pointed out in this thread, over their career, is 2, meaning probably more than 1/2 of them produce less than that. I would take a guy established at AAA over an unnamed comp pick almost any time. And that doesn't even factor in the fact that a guy at AAA or AA can help us within a year or two while a comp pick won't even be in our system until next year and could take 5 years to get to the bigs, if that even happens. So if you're looking for those, it's nice, but it's a long-term rebuilding asset, not something that helps in the near future. And if the team was so on a roll that you believed in them enough after 7 wins against 2 of the worse teams in the AL, then you should have added something to the roster to help it. Then again, the old lesson of "You're never as good as you look when you're on a roll and you're never as bad as you look when your'e in your worst slump" seems to be another of those lessons our FO has failed to learn. i think the talent level is slowly improving.... i made an update for some comp pick last yr and wanted to see how they are doing. they are pretty good. so would that mean next yr draft, the comp picks then be doing the same.... no. but according to the baseball expert, next yr draft pool will be better but will it also be deeper in the pool??? donnie dewees of the scrubs, Tyler Nevin col, Chris Shaw sfo. i think you got my point. no offense intended.
  5. QUOTE (Saufley @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 03:57 AM) Hey, the cubbies plan was to lose and look at the players they now have. do you really want to compare the sox to the northside????? that is like scrapping the stuff some will step in ..... sometimes.
  6. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 08:03 PM) Yes and I think a bunch of our hitters are going to be popping up on radars in the next year or two. The new draft system has done wonders for the White Sox. That's why I think FA (Heyward) is an excellent way to bridge the 2-3 year gap so we can compete while the farm moves toward the top of the lists. The farm is about to be stacked if not already. Time to shell out some big bucks and win a WS before we become the Cardinals in a few years! as i been mentioning some where else, it all depends on the record of the sox at the end of the season. in other words, would the draft pick be protected or not.
  7. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) Meh, I'd glad we kept him instead of trading him for a team's top 10 prospect, especially if it was a team with a farm system that isn't that deep. The supplemental pick could give us another guy like Spencer Adams, who is far better than a team's #10 prospect. you make a great point. but it all depends on how you look at it. if you are looking at immediate help for 2016 roster to help get to the playoff or to improve, than the team screwed up. if you are looking ar improving the org future, then that is the way to go.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 05:03 PM) Another week, another live visit. This time Rob Young was in Winston-Salem to see the playoff-bound Dash. He managed to get exclusive interviews with Carson Fulmer, Spencer Adams, Brian Clark, Matt Cooper, JR Perdew (pitching coach) and Eddy Alvarez. Read them all here. What are your impressions on these guys, after reading what they have to say? fulmer ---- very good responses.... a real player who take his craft serious. his fastball, 2-4 seam, breaking ball and change-up. very astute. adams ---- that is my guy.... he comes across as humble. clark ---- sounds as he feels he is a lucky dude. cooper, ---- can't get a feel for him. maybe it is me. perdew ---- i like him, 20 yrs.... i got to read up on him, alvarez ---- still down to earth and not getting a swell head. excellent article i learned something and go a good feeling of this group.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) Coop wouldn't be one of Alvarez's coaches. Eddy isn't going to be in the big league's next year, but it is important to get him experience in AA. See how he's doing in spring and how his game comes across (give him some time at big league camp) and then decide whether a short stint in high A makes sense or if you just fast track him to AA. I think it is more likely he gets play at AA (with Anderson being in AAA). Rondon would repeat high A. oh shiite.... i got my head my arse.... i don't do pain too well. i was thinking of Fulmer. i guess it will help if i can read.
  10. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 04:23 PM) I think he starts out in AA as well, does well and works his way up as a September call up next year if everything goes right. why???? go to spring training, work on some stuff coop wants and lets see how he does.... start off where he is at and then AA.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 04:50 PM) I think he starts right where he is now. same here.... continue to let him grow into that sp.....
  12. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 05:49 PM) Coop early in the season: "Jeff certain things aren't working. I noticed something. Let's try this." JS: "f*** you I've always done it this way" Coop: "This isn't the watered-down NL, you actually have to be on your game here" JS: "f*** you" Coop: "You're ruining the momentum every time you pitch and your attitude is hurting the clubhouse" JS: "I played football" Coop: "What does that have to do with anything?" JS: "Everything" Coop: "I feel like I'm playing cards with my brother's kids" JS: "Uno b****" Coop: "Good talk" JS: "Great talk" i like it.... could have a little something in there on doing something illicit with pets...
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 05:42 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/likely-scen...fice-vacancies/ Kiley McDaniel has Jerry Dipoto and Kenny Williams as most likely names in Seattle. good, lets pray to the baseball gods to make it happen.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) What does this exactly mean? just getting back ground
  15. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) I never said it was good overall, and I can't wait for JR to sell and KW to leave, I guess I just don't understand putting so much energy into something that constantly makes you miserable. I understand that this franchise doesn't make the playoffs that often and only has 1 title in the last 98 years, but from my perspective as a 25-year-old fan, it really hasn't been that bad. I don't really give a s*** how many titles the White Sox won well before I was born, what they did in the 1920s and 1930s has no relevance at all to today. Besides, judging so heavily on titles feels a little misguided IMO given the randomness of the sport. Was the last decade a failure for the Tigers? We won a title but I'd still give the Tigers the edge here. The Marlins have won 2 titles recently due to a couple lucky playoff runs but have been a complete joke of a franchise otherwise. My roommate is a big Phillies fan and he has said multiple times that from 2008-2011 the Phillies got better every year but did worse in the playoffs every successive year. Their worst team in that run was the only one to get it done, and the best one by far got bounced in the first round. Hell, I think that the 2006 and 2011 Cardinal teams were two of their worst teams in the last 15 years, yet those were the two that won the titles. The baseball playoffs are just so random that I don't put as much stock into who actually wins it because the best team rarely wins it all. It's still important but not nearly as much as in other sports IMO (especially the NBA). I realize that even taking away titles the outlook doesn't look that great for us, but would so many fans here be so disgruntled right now if we had made the playoffs in two of the 2006, 2010, and 2012 seasons? I don't think so. We were very close in all three of those years, a couple small things go differently and I don't think so many fans are on the ledge if we had made the playoffs 4 times in a decade. That's not to say that I give them a pass for not making the playoffs those seasons, but this has hardly been a Pirates or Royals-like run of complete suckitude for several decades. I still had a ton of fun in those three seasons even if we ultimately didn't make the playoffs. the idea is this team core looks sooo tasty and i can see it doing well. the attachment of the owners toward his lackey, may cause a problem. the best case is i can see the club getting players who can help.
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 05:08 PM) The whole thing doesn't make a lot of sense. We have stories saying the Sox tried to sign him to a long term deal and now that he wants out of Dodge? We must have liked him a lot to trade for him and that was the story line plus the Shark said he loved it in Chicago. Maybe struggling so bad is what is prompting these stories and they are speculation only. Doesn't seem to me that Cooper would be trying to reinvent an established pitcher. He might be working with Smard. as the fastball velocity is down and they are looking for a way to make things work? Has to be frustrating for the crew as much as it is us fans. Regardless I am betting we give Jeff a QO so we don't lose everything on the deal - prospects and money. If he leaves so be it. unless it is a bluff game from 1 side.... now the question is whose
  17. QUOTE (glangon @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) There is a worse scenario than that. If we offer Shark the Qualifying Offer and he accepts. Think about it, he is currently the worst pitcher in baseball (according to number of earned runs given up). He has given up more earned runs (200) than any other pitcher in all of baseball. Who in their right mind would give up a compensation pick and £10 million a year for the worst pitcher in baseball. The Shark is not stupid. By accepting the Qualifying Offer, he gives himself another year in the shop window to show what he can do and encourage teams to overpay for him. The market for starting pitchers is extensive this off-season and the Shark knows, he's not going to get anything near what he thinks he is worth, especially when you can get Price, Cueto or Kazmir without giving up a comp pick. The Sox will offer him a QO and I would not be surprised if he accepts it and we are lumbered with him for another year. That would be a LOSE / LOSE not really. but i will give you this opinion. if many think that this season was just a bad luck season.... he would recoup his value, in rtn, the sox would reap the benefits of shark using next season to rebuild his value. the other part would be he can be use as with another player to be as a pkg for a trade. again a win / win situation.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) I would guess that his biggest advantage comes between the ears. First off, the guy has succeeded against the best in the world in his former sport. He has to have a level of confidence going into baseball that not many others have. Second, with speed skating being his other sport, his sense of the speed of the game must be much better than his peers. Think about the level of reactions and error he is used to in speed skating. Baseball is probably a much slower sport for him, allowing him a much better sense of reaction time. excellent point
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 03:39 PM) Kevin Matthews 1 hr · Twitter · Source: Hawks haven't asked Patrick Kane about waiving no-move clause - via @ESPN App thanks for this update, i suspect that the hawks will ride this out with Kane this yr, but he might be trade bait later.
  20. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 01:45 AM) Just speculating, what kind of return can you expect for Kane acct for current circumstances? imho, it will not be full value. many will try to take advantage of the hawks salary crunch at the moment.
  21. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 02:36 AM) I suspect there is some truth to this, I mean Shark completely fell off the table right after July 31st and that's probably not a coincidence. And Cooper does come across as an arrogant, smug, condescending SOB. However let's keep in mind this is Kaplan. The same guy who was so sure the Cubs were going to go after Albert Pujois that he walked on the set one day wearing a Cubs #5 Pujois jersey. He's the same guy who insisted Joe Girardi was coming to manager the Cubs and who shouted from the rooftops that the Cubs "would not be outbid on Tanaka..." Let's just keep that in mind. Mark this info you posted, i didn't know about.
  22. QUOTE (South Sider @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 02:01 AM) IMO Cooper is wearing out his welcome here too. He couldn't find a middle ground to work with Samardzija on? Their relationship should never have been this bad, and as his boss, that falls on Cooper as much as it does Samardzija. Give Cooper a QO too, if you ask me... hehe excellent, i was thinking of pretty much the same thing. coop has the rep of being some what difficult with a salty vocabulary. that is if i remember correctly on how he has been described. but still the grave has been dug, when it was said he disappointed he was not traded. oh well still offer his a QO, it is a win / win situations.
  23. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 03:40 AM) I think the highest they play Adolfo will be Great Falls next year, unless he completely mashes the ball there and needs a call up to A. the main point is, i really hope they don't feel compel to as many would say, rush them. even if they are smashing and as success. i would like them to grow into their bodies and grow esp in the fundamentals of baseball and the positions. now for those who are age appropriate for the promotion, then yes, esp if he is smashing it in that league.
  24. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 11:27 PM) Nice to come home from work and see a W on the board. i am drunk and i am feeling good, so i am in this catch -22 kind of circle. i am happy the sox won, but they are screwing up the draft. i want a good draft, but that will happen if the sox loose. dang.... i am confuse.
  25. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 11:22 PM) Yep, but don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant. rant ... rant, who said rant. i love a good rant... esp when i am doing it. but man, i make so many enemies. i wonder why???
