  1. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 02:20 AM) I have a hard time feeling any sympathy for him or any professional athlete. You yourself said "Any young man wouldn't normally have to be in that situation or think about it". You're right. But any young man doesn't have a penthouse in Trump Tower. Any young man isn't royalty in this town. Any young man doesn't have the benefit of making over 100 million dollars in his career before the age of 35. He is living an INCREDIBLY fortunate life, and he deserves all of that based on his talents. No one should take that away from him, and based on the money he has brought to the organization, the league and the city of Chicago, he deserves every penny and probably more. But with all that luxury comes a change in lifestyle. Stop feeling sorry for him that he has to be more careful with the people he surrounds himself with. Stop making him the victim in any of this. Even if it comes back innocent of charges, he still put himself, and more importantly the organization who gave him all these opportunities, in a tremendously bad situation. (I'm not coming after you directly LDF, it's just incredibly frustrating to see these types of posts. It's wrong.) well thanks for that little bit of info, ref the bold. i am ok with this b/c it is a good debate. now let me further say, i would feel the same about any sports figure. but that is a fine line those people are walking. however if he is innocent that is what i am saying. but if he is not, then he would have to face its consequences.
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 02:57 AM) Again, He Isn't any young man. He is a multi-millionaire that is the face of a billion dollar franchise. If you are willing to sign an 80 million dollar contract, that comes with responsibilities. You know when sports scribes talk about having "veteran leadership" in a clubhouse? A huge part of that is about how to act off the field. How to deal with the line of women that are in every hotel lobby you stay in. How to protect yourself from stories coming out. It's all part of it. Believe me. You CANT compare Kane to s normal 27 year old. I'm not saying he has to be a good school boy. Far from it. But when you are a public figure, you are also a target. It's the same when you are an actor, musician, or public executive. You have to have a vetting process with ANYONE that comes into your life. And if you think I'm wrong on any of this, find out how the Blackhawk front office feels about this right. They are livid. again, i really do see your point and with your pov, i agree. but then again, i still feel sorry for him and still think is sucks to have to keep that whole thing in the back of everyone mind. now, i bet all will keep that in their mind from now on. thanks
  3. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 02:41 AM) Disagree with what? He is young rich and famous so he can throw it in whatever he wants with no repercussions? that the point, any young man wouldn't have to think of that, except for using protection. now with these young men in sports has to really think of those, as you said repercussions. again i see your point, but it sucks.
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 01:27 AM) Stop. Rock, you are better than that. NONE of us can compare our lives to a guy like Patrick Kane. He is in an entire different class, just like any other star athlete is. For the sake of this post, lets play the assumption game, and lets say he met a girl at a bar, lets say she was of legal age, and they slept together on a one night stand. That right there is a gigantic error in judgment, ESPECIALLY given his previous issues with extracurricular activities. Yes, it happens all the time, and yes in some ways it's not fair that he can't live a single man's lifestyle like a lot of do or have in the past. However, with a 10 million per contract and being one of the faces of your sport, that's part of the ballgame. It just is. You HAVE to be smarter than that. It's incredibly poor judgment to put yourself in that spot, as well as the organization that has stood by you after he has already had issues. Just an incredibly disappointing situation for all involved. i see your point but i totally disagree. he is young, rich and famous. now he has to really think of the little things when he is getting it on with a lady..... i guess that is now coming with the game of being single, rich, young and famous.
  5. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 09:45 PM) The biggest thing the White Sox DIDN'T get by holding Samardzija is money. That 4+ million might have come in handy this next offseason. Also, very disappointing that Beckham, Bonifacio, & even LaRoche all performed so terribly in the first half of the season that there wasn't a single team willing to take them for only the remaining money due. of the players you mention, i still have to give beckham credit for holding down the fort, defensively in the first half. for that alone, i was happy he was on the team.

QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 02:25 AM) Spencer Adams vs. Tyler Kolek, how many times have they gone head to head. 8 k's in 5 innings so far for Adams. adams won again...... yesss.

  8. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) I assumed the NHL takes violence against women as seriously as the NFL now does. I would count on not having Patrick Kane of at least 20 games if I'm the Blackhawks. i really do mean this with respect. but i find you hopeless and i am not going to reply to any of your stuff.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) The Ozzie haters blame Ozzie for Kotsay. well, with ref to that whole thing, i don't remember a lot from 2005-2012, b/c of my illness. so i will respectfully refrain from saying anything that i do not know.
  10. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 08:47 PM) I am real, dude. The NFL punishes people who settle or are cleared. I expect the NHL to do the same. nhl, nfl, nba ml are all different and have different ways of running their league. again you are making an assumption.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 07:45 PM) Flowers sucks, but the difference between him and a typical catcher these days isn't enough to bring out all the disdain. He's not good, but look at the catchers in baseball. There aren't many who are. I was at a game vs. KC a couple Sundays ago, and the Sox were stinking up the joint. a guy a section over put up with everyone sucking except when Flowers struck out he couldn't help himself. It seems to be a theme in Soxville. If Flowers was the Sox biggest problem, Robin would be getting his rotation set for the playoffs right now. yeah i agree. nice post/
  12. QUOTE (BigFinn @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) I'm as frustrated by Tyler Flowers' lack of offense, but his defense is amazing. He's listed, by Statcorner.com, as #2 in MLB for pitch framing behind Francisco Cervelli of the Pirates. Gio Soto is #14. Out of 95. I don't know how important pitch framing is compared to throwing out base runners or getting an occasional base knock (professional statisticians argue about the relative weights of these stats), but Flowers' pitch framing is why he is the preferred catcher behind the plate, especially compared to A.J. in years past. If the Sox had decent players at all the other positions, we could carry a defense-first catcher. It doesn't help that we have a defense-first DH! in my opinion, if the sox had a decent talent up and down the lineup, a lack of a productive catcher would not be that noticeable.
  13. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 08:37 PM) This posts oozes naivete. This line of thinking he is dead. The NHL cannot have a player under investigation for rape on the ice. Period. get real. you are calling AD naive and yet you are talking about something like you are a voice of authority???? do you work for the NHL front office, and if not, how do you know how they will react.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) That's a rough prediction. It's still baseball. Even poorly put together teams can still get to that 2nd wild card or win a weak division or just get lucky. oh i agree with you, but i have the up most confidence that he is gone after this season.
  15. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) Still need more details, but we know there was a kit. We also know he didn't contact the Blackhawks about his situation, so they're more in the dark than even we are. And don't think a clearance won't get him suspended. That seems inevitable now, as the NHL does NOT have to obey the "innocent until proven guilty" clause. ref the bold, how do you know on these 2 bold, esp what the hawks knows or do not know???? second, we do not need to know more.... it is personal and it will be taken care of thru proper channels. you are really making a lot of assumptions in this whole post you made.
  16. QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 08:20 PM) Specifically, KW..the guy that had all kinds of cash to spend after 2005 , and ran things into the ground. and , is the chief architect for this train wreck. Never ceases to amaze me that the powers that be of the Sox continue to give the wheel to the dude that ran the bus off the road I hope I'm wrong, but I predict that the Sox will fail to the playoffs as long as Reinsdorf retains ownership i don't i do think they will never make the playoff again if KW is still calling the shots.
  17. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) If he's cleared though, what "situation" has he put himself in? Going out with friends? Sleeping with someone? I don't know if he's got a girlfriend or not (if he did, then obviously there's the cheating component), but if he's single and he's cleared of wrongdoing, he has not put himself in any "situation." again if he is cleared. this is the common problem of what the young superstars are getting into. no one can predict anything like that.
  18. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 08:13 PM) Replace Tyler Flowers with a house plant and it probably wouldn't do much worse. well, for me, i am looking at him as being the #1 catcher again next season. unless they go out and trade for one. but what will the cost be?? now, when the fa's comes around in the offseason, the priority is going some where else. i would assume.
  19. QUOTE (Julius @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 06:53 PM) In my opinion, the sox will not get Chris Sale into the playoffs during the remaining years of his contract. In other words the "3 year plan" will be an utter failure. Once his contract is up, they will let him walk. In turn, the sox brass will be let go and JR sells the team. The sox brass are at fault. People who think that it makes sense to go from Mark Kotsay->Adam Dunn->Adam LaRoche deserved to be canned. i remember the sox fluff spin doctoring on how Kotsay was going to be the dh.... all that bull crap. another wasted yr.
  20. QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 04:37 PM) This. This is exactly why I call him Fools Gold. He has already proven to not be a good baseball player at the major league level, I'm not sure why everyone still thinks he's good or has the potential to be really good. maybe i am misreading this, but he does have potential and can learn. he is how old?? now whether he will be a gold glove defender or is one thing, now if he becomes a better hitter, then the team can work around that.
  21. i have said this many times and i still mean. what a job yous guys do. it is great. many thanks.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 06:19 PM) Which basically means maybe he is guilty, maybe not, but the truth will probably never come out. Apparently those media members have never heard of the NHLPA. wow, i just got back on. i missed alot. the main situation is everyone feels for the women and auto condemn the man. but if it was consensual or not. the afterthought is what many men are hoping for. the evidence of vagina tearing or not. the other part is the teasing of the lady, the point of no rtn. however the law say, when she say no, no is the final word the final straw. kane doesn't need to do this, he can go and get a hooker..... either way, i hope for the best.....
  23. QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 06:10 AM) I still don't feel we need a complete rebuild. One because there isn't a farm system out there that could supply the necessary pieces to acquire the likes of Sale, Abreu and Quintana and two because while we're bad this year we're not so broken that it can't be fixed. A couple of things I was clamoring for Grandal to be picked up desperately by this front office and everything in his advanced metrics in addition to health and getting the hell out of SD pointed to an insane amount of positive regression which i pointed out extensively in offseason posts. In addition to that I wanted the sox to go after Kang and Maeda hard, and while they did some home work with Maeda they dropped the ball on Kang, He very well could've been a solution at 3B, SS, 2B for us as well, and this isn't revisionist history either, for the amount of money spent on a known albeit s***ty entity in Bonifacio they could've had Kang. My hope is they'll do their collective homework with the KBO going forward but i won't hold my breath. Very few on this board predicted us to be atop any standings if anything I would say the majority of us felt that we could possibly be a dark horse if everything broke right, and honestly even with our offense being nearly historically bad we're still not out of the play off picture at 4 back. The sox going forward need to be patient with Thompson, the Johnsons' and Avi unless they're going to spend on an big time free agent like Heyward. Our pitching is good and will continue to get better, I would let shark walk this offseason and pick up the pick. Rodon, Fulmer, Johnson and Montas are going to have to take their lumps in the majors like everyone. excellent post ref the bold, i love it.
  24. QUOTE (wsiskel @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 02:00 AM) That's the point. Anderson has a track record, even in spite of his raw of tools, and has produced at every single level. Fulmer was just drafted and we don't yet know how he will translate or what the White Sox have. What it comes down to for me is that with Rodon graduated, Anderson is the #1 prospect by default. I say that in part because his ceiling is huge even if he moves to CF (or honestly even 2B), which is a legitimate possibility. But more importantly because he's done nothing to be moved down a spot. This is his first year in AA and he is absolutely thriving; he really is. For someone that didn't do amateur showcases and was strictly a basketball player until his junior year at JC, his career thus far is remarkable. And don't get me wrong: I absolutely love Fulmer – very reasonable to think he could be a mid-rotation starter or an elite closer. nice post. this T30 i love it b/c it is more informative. now back to your post, the way the pro's does it, performance doesn't matter. i am playing devil's advocate here. last yr, Rodon automatically became #1 based on perception or a prediction by those who was making the list. for me, the biggest problem will always be, that driving this indecision is, is any list based on a perception / prediction or production. there is no easy answer and i lean on the only answer i can think of to justify any ratings and rankings. it is all subjective. no one is right and no one is wrong.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 03:42 AM) Once again, the curious nature of fans. Steverson should be run out of town the way the Sox hit. Walker was run out of town. Why? Well, Walker was a former player who didn't really hit well in the bigs for the Sox. So the cliche was he was no good, a clown. Steverson is some new age genius guy who people know nothing about. Yet he doesn't get blamed at all when he should have been canned weeks ago. There are so many cliches in baseball. It'd take a lot for fans to think Steverson is no good. He's a no name who has been deemed outstanding for some reason. Walker meanwhile is a clown for no reason. this is not for me to make a call on the steverson vs walker debate . all i have to say is, steverson is a good coach who help oak when he was their hitting coach. he has a philosophy, maybe some like and others don't. but i do, he works hard with anyone who comes to him including the minors leaguers. but the point in what you are saying on walker, i have none.
