The White Sox complete Rebuild Discussion Thread
LDF replied to Bananarchy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (RegionSox @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) How would they reevaluate JR's input? He is the owner, he has as much input as he wants. really..... sox came close but never had the ummmm to put it all together. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) I spoke to Hostetler for over a half an hour a bit ago. He's a great guy and a good interview. We will have it up tomorrow. excellent, i can't wait. -
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 05:09 PM) Interesting to think about but unless Robin simply resigns for whatever reason he's not going any place. JR and the front office still like him a lot. However if that possibility should occur I'm for anybody who has previous major league managing experience and who has absolutely zero ties to the organization. No more former players, no more former coaches, no more guys 'learning' how to be a major league manager with on the job training. Sox haven't hired a manger with former experience managing at the big league level since Jeff Torborg in 1989. Mark excellent point. i never realize that.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) White Sox will never deliberately operate at a loss like the Tigers. not am i suggesting that it should, and i mean for long term. but 1 yr???
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) So John Schuerholz was only equal to KW despite 14 consecutive playoff appearances? Why do we even need Hahn then? Erroneous post? We didn't get him simply because JR didn't want a bad contract in Dontrelle Willis, and Maybin/Miller were both more highly ranked than any prospects in our system at that time. This is like KW saying Robin Ventura almost won Manager of the Year in 2012....making comparisons with DD and Williams. Well, we could have made the playoffs in 2003, 2006, 2010 and 2012. Great almost job! per your post, JR and the rest of the owners can't see the pluses of loosing to get out in front in the long run. in other words, no foresight ability.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 03:25 PM) Other than Chris Sale, the White Sox have done what exactly....it's definitely not very good. KW proved he could run out of pieces to land a Cabrera well enough, or a Max Scherzer. We turned Edwin Jackson into....some dudes from Toronto. The Tigers traded Jackson for who would become one of the five best pitchers in baseball, Max Scherzer. That's really good. Victor Martinez over Adam Dunn, also pretty good. If only JR was rich enough, the White Sox could have done the same thing.....and averaged well over 30,000 fans per game for over a decade. Brilliant. Tell KW to spend another $50-100 million, all our problems will be solved. i disagree, when the salary was hitting 110+ mil in the 90's, all they needed was another player. now the results of that investment would reap many layers of improvement in the financial aspect of business. 1 yr of a lost on profit, which can be turn around as a win - loss margin for over the past 3-5 yrs. profit range. then the improvement in the fan base, the sells of those increase in all the side companies, food vendors, drinks, parking, parking, incidentals. now with the success, the corp and commercial success and profits, which will be higher than normal profits. season tickets will sell more, now if the team has a success on the field for a 3-5 yrs span..... that $$$ profit line will increase every yr. the sox will take over chi during the baseball season. all this will increase the income revenue.

Top 30 White Sox Prospects - Midseason 2015

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) Great list guys. The only thing I would say is that #8 is way too high for Adolfo, but then again I'm more of a production guy that purely projection. It's not Adolfo's fault he doesn't have the production yet — he's 18 years old! But he has a loooong way to go and I need to see more before I rank him that high. and you make a good point. not this list from soxtalk, but the pro's. i have yet to figure out how they make the list. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 09:52 PM) He was my preferred option, but I thought LaRoche would be more of a "sure thing" given that LaRoche had outperformed him in the past several years. Made sense to pay the premium for that guy since we were going to succeed and win the division with our strong roster this yera. D'Oh. i too had adam as my #1 with KM being my #2. i also had some real concerns, esp after how paulie did last yr. but the sox will not go for the sure thing, making the necessary trade to get one. so the long gamble was the rt to go, as per the sox owners have done in the past. here is my thoughts on the sox have done. how many times has it worked > 1 maybe 2.... how many times did it failed. > many. -
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) I dont think the Angels are a fit, he is going somewhere to be the President, not GM. Toronto and Boston are the two most likely teams. It really kills the Sox if he goes to Toronto as that is probably our only shot at getting rid of KW for good. i know, that was what i was thinking yesterday when he announcement came out.
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) It will be very interesting to see what happens if KW departs for Toronto. If so, I think JR's first call is to Tony LaRussa to try and get him back in the org. If LaRussa is in charge, you would think that McEwing has the inside track. Other than that, it will depend on who is brought in to fill that role. Perhaps JR would make a run at Dombrowski to fill the president role and bring him back to Chicago, that is if he doesn't end up taking Lucchinos job in Boston in the mean time. If Dombrowski is your guy, then you have a much different pool of candidates than you would with KW or LaRussa. i think DD will be a hot commodity in the off season, LAA, Tor Bos for starters.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) A few fun facts about the list that we didn't include in the post because it was already so long... --There was significant argument about 1 vs 2, which hasn't happened in a few years --The upper-middle of the list, from about 4 through the teens, is pretty weak, relatively --The lower third or half of the list is possibly the strongest we've seen in a long time, and a whole lot of players who missed the list could have easily been in that back end --The increased spending in LatAm the last few years is starting to bear fruit, as some key signees are making into the back end or just missing it - which is part of why there is so much depth there --The lack of 2nd and 3rd round picks this year, along with offseason trades like the one for Shark, are significant parts of why the middle is so weak this cycle also what needs to be taken into account, look at where the club was several yrs ago and look at the talent of where it is now. yous guys could only work with what has be given to you. next yr when the rookies this yr really start to make a name for themselves is going to be a great edition. -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) Let's hear some names. I'll start with some obvious ones that'll get tossed around: 1. Ozzie Guillen- His .524 winning percentage with the Sox is a lot better than Ventura's. Left on bad terms though. 2. Dave Martinez- The next great manager according to everyone but the 30 GMs running teams. Worrisome that he hasn't been hired yet, particularly by the Rays. 3. Joe McEwing- Perennial managerial and been with the Sox awhile now. Good 3rd base coach outside whatever the f*** 2 nights ago was. 4. Sandy Alomar Jr- The coveted catcher to manager move. Being groomed as a manager by the Indians. Obvious Sox ties. 5. Joey Cora- Key part of the Guillen "glory days" but without the shenanigans. Vanderbilt educated. and as southsideirish71 said, and he brought up some interesting points. i really like 1. Roger McDowell 2. Dave Martinez 3. fred gonzalez honorable mention cora and ivan pudge rodriguez asst coach somehow. ``` edit - oh crap i forgot the internal options. -- jose bautista --

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) Give it a read. It's long (our rankings lists always are), but it is also one of the biggest and best things we do. We had seven writers participate in the process this year, and to all of them I say THANK YOU. If you're going to read something from FutureSox, these rankings lists are one of the few must-reads. So now that the full list is out, tell us what you think! real nice...... i really like the first 4. i still think but this is me, 1 and 2 should be tie. and davidson should be out of the T20. other than that...... this is going to be great reading continuously thru out spring training. using this a the tablesetter for improving the system... to all who worked on it......many thanks -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 07:41 AM) http://www.freep.com/story/sports/2015/08/...litch/31138765/ Free Press sportswriter takes the Ilitches to task... http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...s-end-of-an-era Chrstina Kahrl opinion Jeff Passan Last year a Brown student named Lewis Pollis wrote his senior thesis on just how undervalued front-office personnel truly are. The paper starts off with a stunning claim: one standard deviation of a GM's ability to find players is worth nearly eight wins above replacement – or more than $50 million a year. Essentially, Pollis wrote, a great GM can have almost as big of an impact annually as Mike Trout. Pollis estimated the value between the best and worst free-agent buyers (San Francisco's Brian Sabean on top and ex-Baltimore GM Jim Beattie at the bottom) at nearly $43 million a year, and that's to say nothing of their abilities to pull off trades or draft and develop. Granted, Pollis' numbers pegged Dombrowski below average, dragged down by the 119-loss season as well as other rebuilding projects he took over. In reality, those only strengthened his reputation. He can come into a strong situation and make it stronger. He can come into a dumpster fire and hose it into tranquility. Dombrowski's standing among executives is unparalleled. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/why-dave-domb...-230836111.html http://sabr.org/sites/default/files/Pollis..._It-2014-04.pdf Page 68-69 has the ratings. Hahn was average, KW in the bottom quartile and Neal Huntington, Dayton Moore, Randy Smith, John Hart, Dean Taylor and Jim Beattie as the six worst. Ed Lynch and Dan Evans both fared surprisingly well, as did Omar Minaya. excellent find. i was surprise on Hahn and houston gm. but i wasn't on KW. his ranking the right there for all to see.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 06:08 AM) 50 of the last 55, to be exact. But hey! Don't be bitter now, as some others would wag their sanctimonious fingers at you and admonish you for being. Don't be bitter! It's just baseball, dontcha know. A win and a loss - bah! What's the difference! If you don't like the results, why, just go and get another hobby, they would tell you. How dare you expect more! And if it's blame you are seeking to assign, well then, look no further than the mirror, Fair Fan. It is all your fault! You and all of your excuses for not coming out to the ballpark - the Sox' lack of success is all yer fault! Why... Lol - I can't even keep that charade up of that ridiculous mindset, it's so absurd. But yes, to the poster's credit for pointing out, yet another wasted summer. When will it all change for the better? Time will tell, I reckon. A new management team seems like it would be a good start, but then there's still the issue of the "hands-on" owner who would still ultimately call the shots. He's overruled even the current management team over the years over strategic decisions, and look how well that's worked out for us. Oy! Looks like we are in for more of the same as long as the status quo remains in place! nice post.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 05:19 AM) Been trying to think of a way to sum up the Sox organization the last 10 years. I can't do it in one sentence but these come close: "One step forward...two steps back." "Loyalty without Accountability" "When in doubt, blame the fans" It's a shame that another summer has been flushed right down the toilet. When all is said and done it'll be six of the last nine of them. Beyond sad now. Mark ~~ i say the last 20+ yrs >>>>>>>>>> hands on ownership that think they know more about baseball than the pro's. ~~ not being able to or refuse to take that extra step to get the missing part or pieces >>>>>>> is it going to cost $$$$ the owner management should really look at how close the sox were with the talent level and the sox didn't take a step forward. totally being inept and wasted opportunities to make history, to take over chi for baseball and since they only seems to be worried about the $$$$, they would have build on that success monetarily building a bigger and better financial corp. wasted talent the sox had for incompetence at the very top. real sad.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:26 AM) I'm not a big Foo Fighters fan, but this is cool. this is freaking insane. the amount of people there and at their own expense. wow. the whole sounds must have be reverberating to new levels. what a concept. many thanks.
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 11:28 PM) I don't know how weird you guys are but her ya go you know, i like it. the sound i like its like mixtures of several types of regional music. something like the deep horn of down under and the scratching on a hollow tube. the visual part reminds me of something from the earlier twilight movies. but that is me and i am weird. nice ..... i am going to see / hear more of then when i get to work.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) The White Sox wouldn't just name a new scouting director if Dombrowski was coming. I think he is going to the Angels. interesting.... i totally forgot about the angels. good one.

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal
LDF replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 09:51 PM) No. He'll get something like 7/$140 with an opt out after 3-4 years. In other words you'll probably only pay him $60-$80 million, but the team takes on the risk of the full $140 million or whatever it winds up being in case he has a severe career setback or gets hurt, not the player. well that is why i was sweetening the deal at 23 per, so that he and his agent can get the extra 3 mil per for a 3 yr deal. however what you are stating and the reason is perfectly understandable and is prob the better move, for in case of any injury. but again many thanks for the discussion. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 10:17 PM) Ha that would be easy even this year you can point to all the moves the Sox made that haven't worked or look at DH alone. I don't even have to do any research to come up with cheaper better DH's than LaRoche, .... Kendry Morales and Chris Colabello if i remember correctly, before Adam laroche was signed, there was a discussion on this site of a nice signing for the dh. KM was discussed then as well. -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 09:42 PM) Can't we have a AAA pitcher throw him 100 fastballs above the zone so he can just watch them go by. Then have another pitcher do the same thing? Then have some pitchers throw 100s of fastballs outside for him to watch? I just don't think he knows the zone. Big problem. i like that idea and i am sure, the coaches has a better idea what to do to further his training. however that is in spring training.

LDF replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) You could give him 3/23 per where the opt-out is after 3 and that's what you pay, but he's going to get >>$100 million guaranteed. That's a way for teams to attract players - give them the security of a long-term deal but a chance to still take advantage of the market in a couple years. i just want to verify. we are talking about Heyward, right?? now i see and agree with what you are saying. buy at 3 yr or even at 4 yrs with a 23 per is a nice option for the player. it will give him a chance to get a nicer contract at 30 yrs of age. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 09:02 PM) Then you don't get to say anything about the White Sox not bringing in any big-time free agents this offseason because you're not anywhere close, ok? There's nothing wrong with that, avoiding major free agents can be a smart move if done correctly. Just don't complain this offseason about the lack of impact moves. oh man, i like to complain about everything. but serious, you are saying that 3 yrs at 23 per is not good enuf. this would give him the opportunity to get another contract at 30-31. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) Valencia is as inconsistent a hitter as can be and for a temp fix, i think he is doable..
