ok, i tried to look up Hostetler. he work for 3 yr with atl before rejoining the sox. but many have a point. should the sox need to look outside the org. but the question is, why the internal move now??? what caused this chg?? http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/mlb-dr...cenes-white-sox -

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 08:27 PM) For what it's worth, I was tipped off about something along these lines a few months ago. The person I heard from said Rick started to listen more and more to Hostetler at the expense of Laumann. The person that I was in touch with felt Laumann was actually better at his job than Hostetler. We'll see how it work out. One thing is clear...over the last 15 years the Sox have had a number of people in charge of amateur scouting and minor league operations. In my opinion that part of the reason the minor league system is in the shape its been in. Mark ok i just thought it was s KW people vs Hahn people. -

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 08:22 PM) If this has indeed been in the works for awhile I'm wrong... But this SCREAMS that Hahn wasn't satisfied with the information he was provided by his scouting dept during the recent trade negotiations. ok you peaked my interest, now can you explain how ??? unless it is a assumption. -

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 07:55 PM) I think Samardzija--at least, forgiving his last outing--has pitching really quite well this year, probably a little bit better than I expected. With that said, his drop in velocity and strikeouts makes me worried about committing a lot of money to him. I'm also not a firm believer in the "he has a young arm!" business you make a good point. but this season is a screwy season. it hard to see what can be taken from it. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) I think ChiSox59 is speaking more towards his attitude and general focus in his posts rather than them having differences in opinion. you know more than i... i just wanted to make a point. and at no one expense... sorry and many thanks. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 06:35 PM) His post had absolutely nothing to do with prospect reports or administration of the website. His post said that he expected the White Sox to do the opposite of what he thinks they should do...something he says in nearly all of his posts - whether it be indirect or direct. It just gets brutal to read. The guy clearly knows baseball and advanced stats, but the negativity is just brutal to read. He also considered Melky Cabrera a sunk cost as recently as 40 days ago or so and he is now one of the hottest hitters in the league and his slash line is now pretty much at his career averages. So his negativity has certainly cause him to lose some of his objectiveness. I appreciate the work that the admins do too. I love reading Soxtalk, and FutureSox. That has absolutely nothing to do with constant blind negativity. pls don't get me wrong, i like your posts. but people do have different opinions. either way. life is life. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 07:24 PM) Okay. I'm assuming Saladino is on the list i guess we have to wait for the other list.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) Why don't you work for a front office? Just curious - you seem to think you're well suited for the job. wow that was harsh. the mods and admin on this site does a great job and an equally great job in the prospect rpts. are they right, no. are they wrong, no. but it is a fans fyi for fans. i appreciate these rpts. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 06:11 PM) Funny you say that. Historically, we've done a pair of articles after each Offseason list, looking at the players who just missed - we call then Next Wave. With so many interesting names just missing, we're going to do them after the Midseason list this year too. Sometime in the next week or two. wow..... i can't wait . all those rookies and the rookies leagues. those players i can't wait to get more info.

someone made a excellent point, Anderson should go for those reps. i agree.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) Do you think James Shields's deal counts as a "team friendly contract"? He had to wait until the end of the FA period, he got a lot less than I thought he would get, yet his contract is still imposing enough after only 4 months of baseball that it seemed reasonable for San Diego to think about moving him at the deadline just to clear the contract. a valid point. whether you or i or anyone thinks it is worth it, it is the org that makes that final decision. ours is nothing but a subjective opinion. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 05:48 PM) For the record, not all the writers were in agreement on everything. I happen to agree with you on Delminico for example, and I personally think he's not that close to T30 - though I know the profile and background add some interest. As for your alternates, a few notes... Guerrero is in the Top 15... Cooper is interesting, the results are insane, but I saw him in person in May and wasn't that impressed (unless he's changed some things, which is possible) though I agree he needs promotion... With Zavala and Dopico they are both worth watching, but I'm not going to get super-excited about Rk ball stats from lower profile guys just yet... Trexler, Narvaez and Perez were all discussed and just missed the list. Oh and, Philips is no longer a prospect by rule - too much major league service time. and here is my point, no one will always agree and as the sox continue to get more players in the systems, it is going to be extremely hard to get a great feel of the prospects and where they rank. you guys do a great job just introducing those prospects to us, the other group of fans. many thanks for that info. psst ..... when is the 30-45 coming out????

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) Well done. That's exactly what is going to happen. Would be surprised that when January comes around, Samardzija's agent will be calling the Sox trying to get a contract. I really hope the Sox part ways with Samardzija. The money on Samardzija can be better spent on a bat via trade or FA, most likely trade. with my opinion on whether i would want him back or whether he would be worth it, but in ref to the bold. it is at that juncture, the sox will be in the driver seat. a team friendly contract is and will be on the plate, that is the sox deem it worth it. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) Here is how it will go: 1. Sox give Shark the Qualifying Offer; 2. Shark rejects said Qualifying Offer in hopes of securing a long term contract; 3. Shark sits on the market and watches Price and Cueto set the price for the top of line SP; 4. Shark signs in January or February for something far less than Price and Cueto, and the team who acquires him, gives up their first round pick. Why it is not a win-win, is Shark would have a draft pick tied to him. It would improve his market if he didn't. But it today's game, pretty much all good FA will have a pick attached to him, so it is less of a big deal than it was before the new CBA. But it is still a 1st round pick, and most teams hate forfeiting picks. no matter what the system is in place, the clincher is, the sox will receive a comp pick if shark reject the QO and is sign by another team. most teams will hate giving up a draft pick.... guess what, they may hate it, but they will still do it...... for the right player. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) It is a sunk cost. at this point you have to do what is best for the team a valid point. don't get me wrong, but the owners may have a different pov. the $$$ rtn for an investment.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) Well, to be accurate, LaRoche is a $12M player this year, and $13M next year, so not $15M. And that is exactly what they did when they signed him. LaRoche's splits have always been such that she shouldn't play against LHP. It really isn't that difficult. Due to the way the team was constructed, there weren't really any better options on the roster this season. However, like I said, that may be changing if Thompson is called up and/or Valencia is acquired. The Sox are paying LaRoche the same amount whether he plays everyday or not. Giving the team a better chance of competing by letting him ride pine against LHP is better for the organization than just running him out there. I am confident (hopeful is probably the better word) that they'll make the right decision if they have a truly better option on the roster. Thompson in RF and Avi at DH would be one of those. Valencia in RF (may not be any better than Avi in the OF, so they're interchangeable in this scenario) and Avi at DH is another. and there is were we should agree to disagree. i have this little itch that thinks the owners will not allow that. but then again what the hell do i know.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 05:05 PM) I don't know that LaRoche plays strictly due his salary. Who exactly is a better option against LHP? Shuck when he was healthy? Not against LHP. I suppose earlier in the season they could have done Beckham at 3B, Boni in RF and Avi at DH..but that's not much better. I think LaRoche has mainly played against LHP because there really isn't a better option on the bench. That is different now, assuming Trayce is called up (or Valencia is acquired), so maybe, just maybe, LaRoche will sit vs. LHP going forward. and does anyone really think that the sox will pay 15 mil for a platoon player???
-
not bad, just like anything else, there are going to be some agreement and some not. great job and appreciate everyone hard work.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) Not really a win for Shark. ok, no offense, why not?? 1. the sox gets a comp pick 2. shark signs for 1 yr as the QO price, shark rebuild his value, and the sox reaps the reward of his effort. 3. the yr after, the sox gets a comp pick or he signs a club friendly contract. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 04:56 PM) And that has a lot of value now a days since many teams use platoons. esp with the advance stats. look at Adam L. look at the stats, he should be a platoon batter, but b/c of his salary, he plays all the time. Danny Valencia, is a good stop gap player, assuming if he passes on his opinions. and the salary should not be horrible.
