QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 01:06 AM) Austin Jackson isn't very good at baseball. He's not the difference between the Sox being a playoff team or not. i really don't know about the advance stats, but for someone who doesn't know that, i look at his history of playing mlb ball. he is good enuf to get a starting bid, put up at least 400 ab's and nice stats. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/j/jacksau01.shtml i guess i should ask what standard are you using to judge him.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 02:39 AM) I think you'll get a new manager. He's set up as the guy without a chair. But the front office did a good job! my emotions are really running wild, i don't understand this last part. sorry.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 02:14 AM) If they fail again this year, there better be massive changes in this organization. for this discussion only, who do you think will be fired for lack of a better word??? RV - i think last yr he should have been fired, this yr, i have to wait and see how he handles the team Hahn - i think he has done a great job, given with what i imagine the limitation that he was given. some of the owners - maybe one of their sons or daughter can step in and take over as CEO. unless they do a total rebuild and sell off the players. i really like to get your opinion, to see if i am missing something.

'Quinarvy' date='Feb 29, How many times have we PM'd? quite a few times in after that infamous post of "we will pm poster etc...." by a Admin type of person. LDF, I can tell you the mods don't have it out for people with differing opinions. We are entitled to our opinions as well. consciously i will agree, but if a person does have a difference of opinion with a admin / mod, there 3 Admin kind of person who keeps up the arguments, even getting off the subject to argue other posts, like pent up anger. i know, b/c i have been on the receiving and i can name the post and thread to prove my point. remember one thing, i react to posters, yeah even to admin and mods, and my main defense is and will always be, everyone has the right to have a different opinions. People don't get banned/suspended for their opinions. then why have i been give this so called statement from the same admin 3 times. i was done with the subject, why bring it up again.

well i wasn't going to say anything negative on EE rip thread. so i will keep it simple. the very first mistake, the gamble on pushing for a move to the NW and loosing, then loosing to the south loop. eventually stay where they are. that is the beginning of a chain of mistakes. enuf said on my part.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 12:29 AM) I'm surprised as well. I was thinking to myself that Freese would sign with Cleveland but they with Uribe instead. I would have taken Freese over Uribe but I imagine Cleveland went with the cheaper option in Uribe. dang, i totally forgot about cle, and i am really surprise at uribe or freese. freese has a little better batting stat, though uribe plays more position. i can see signing uribe for that versatility in the field.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 12:03 AM) Every draft is different, but this is over 30 of them and not much luck at 27. The good news is the Sox are now at 26 and it is a little better. and i still think this draft, esp with the sox projecting to keep their comp pick, will have some surprise players at #27 or 26. i am really excited on the draft side this yr. this draft if deep, if no one gets hurt.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 11:59 PM) Merkin doesn't think Jackson is in the plans. dang it, does merkin think that is there anyone in the sox plans esp in the OF??

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 12:33 AM) Yeah even if they go on to do nothing with their careers, early on in the first few years they still have upside and are trade chips. yeah i agree, i just wish that the system had a deeper core of quality positional players

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 07:03 PM) Here's a list of #27 overall picks. I don't have the last 2, but I think I would trade every single one of them for Dexter Fowler. Porcello could be an exception. The White Sox are really going to have to buck a trend to get impact here, although I do admit, there will be some available: 27th Overall MLB Draft Picks Year Player Pos. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 12:17 AM) I wonder if he could play RF? i was wonder as well. but the sox needs a cf'er more. but with eaton saying he can start, i just don't know.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 09:22 PM) Jackson has put up 5.5 WAR higher in his career than Fowler in about 100 less PA. He is younger. The difference being Fowler gets most of his offensively, Jackson, at least the last couple of seasons, defensively. Eaton said today he will be ready by opening day, but the Sox could use a guy who can play CF. no QO attached. It comes down to price. He obviously wants more than $6 million. He Probably wants more than $12 million at this point. it appears the Sox were willing to go around $10 million a year for Fowler if Bruce's report is accurate. This has to be the play, doesn't it? I guess it will all come down to when Boras feels there is no chance at the money he is looking for. you make a compelling argument, if that is there intentions. i only hope so. a. jack is the player i wanted all off season for the outfield. but his agent, that is a huge problem. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 10:39 PM) It's not the Sox philosophy it was his comment about not having a good farm system. Personally, the ranking of the farm system is meaningless. A team needs to use the farm system to help the MLB club by either bringing up prospects or trading the prospects for MLB players. The rankings are based on overall talent and depth. I like what the sox dis this year. They traded mediocre players from a system that everyone here says is bad and picked up an all star. As long as they keep the possible impact players and obtain good players they will continually improve the team. you make an excellent point. i too care less about the system ranking among other org, what i care about is having viable prospects who can help the parent team, the white sox.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 08:51 PM) How many teams have traded prospects this offseason for 3-4 WAR players? good question... it seems as a lot of teams are wanting to over charge, look at the atl-arz trade. the fa market is the route to go. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 08:46 PM) Who do we realistically have to trade outside our top three that will net an impact bat? Sure, there are obviously many Jay Bruce, Carlos Gonzalez and Ethier types out there...and problem is they all bump the payroll up $12-18 million. About the only real 3-4 war "younger" impact bat on the market was the Marlins' Ozuna...and that acquisition isn't going to come from Tier B/C prospects cobbled together. i am not really like to trade with cincy, they will ask for the world as a rtn. but the trade market, i will admit i am or will go back on my, everything for the last piece of the puzzle. i just can't see giving up a ton for a trade price. -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) Desmond or the 27th pick, Latos, and Rollins... Pretty even but I think I'd side with the route we ended up taking and still have faith that we'll be adding another OF bat vi trade. some may say i am backtracking here, but i love the draft and the minor league aspect of baseball. with that said, this draft is really deep with pitchers. i would have hated giving up that comp pick. following the ncaa now until it ends is going to be fun. but i would have understand if it was done. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 09:18 PM) Yes but spending money on free agents and losing draft picks is one of the primary causes of the poor farm system. If you truly want a good farm system then you don't want them to sign free agents. good point and i agree but you can look at this org state logically and can put a finger on whose fault it really is. now with that said, i am really hesitant on signing a fa's that has a draft pick attached. there are 2 points gong on, 1. should the sox have made every effort to sign fowlers . 2. will the sox add to the roster??? now with that, i would be hard press to sign fowlers, but i can see the necessity of doing so, for the offense that is remaining on the market to be had. second, i keep looking at players for 1 yr rentals, that can be had and signed for far less than anyone imagine. for the last main point, this is where i hope i am wrong. i hope the sox do sign an of'er who can play cf.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 07:58 PM) No but the constant bashing of the ownership and not the players is. You blast them for spending money on free agents (LaRoche/Cabrera) but want them to spend twice that amount on another one. Instead of blaming the onwership for spending money and not spending money at the same time you should throw a little blame at the players for not performing like they are capable of doing. I would guess most fans are frustrated with the team and their performance. However, I would also say I thought the team on paper looked pretty good last year with all of the additions. It was the players who did not perform to their capabilities last year. yeah, as i said in another post or thread, i went thru 10 pages +/- to see who didn't like the signing of laroche. only 2 posters and those 2 were almost like prophetic in their reasoning's .. you do make a great point on last yr performance. but until then, the state of the system is where the point is, well my points.

QUOTE (soxfan85 @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 06:47 PM) No sir. Other than pitchers, they don't know how to draft position players...period. Don't fool yourself, they don't. Thus, unless another pitcher miraculously falls into their lap with that pick, it is meaningless. Last time I checked, we seem pretty well set with pitching in the majors and in the farm. We need position players. Desmond would have helped us, no doubt about it. The fact of the matter is, this organization has absolutely no direction. It is very frustrating as a fan. no offense here. but this draft is deep, really deep with quality pitchers and if the sox keeps that comp pick, they may pick 2 pitchers of excellent upside. now with ref to the farm, i see adams, guerrero , leyer for sure SP's, the undecided fulmer, lowry. so as a baseball expert once said, you can never have too many pitchers. the real question mark, beck, ej and danish. now in the draft, i mean the sp's i am talking about are front end type pitchers. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 06:31 PM) He knew the budget going into the offseason. Simply no excuses to not finish the job this offseason. Thankfully I'm confident Gregor is wrong and there's one more move left. you make a point, the budget .... the budget is an internal one. we the fans really do not know what that budget is. but fixing this team is important, i say that the job is not finished. the rollins signing was really not as important as finding a CF'er. you got me stump on this post. the mention of the statement of the budget threw me for a loop.

btw, what ever happened to the short lived proclamation of, if the admin or mods has a problem, they will PM that poster...... only rules to suit themselves.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 06:22 PM) Would be simply inexcusable to have no backup CF and platoon partner for LaRoche. Hahn should absolutely be on the hot seat if that happens. unless it is per the owners.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 05:15 PM) Irrational in the sense that you seem to think that one thing is all that matters. The rest of it is just reinforcing your already decided opinion, even though they can just as easily be said about you. then argue his pov.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 05:17 PM) This is just ridiculous. You play this card all of the time, but the fact that you are still here, and not banned or even suspended for should tell you everything you need to know. There is no conspiracy against you or anyone else. If there was, you wouldn't still be posting here. what are you talking about !!! my comment was not meant to offend no one or as a rant against any one. i just pointed out that a difference of opinions is what make this sire thrives. just b/c some poster do not put you on a pedestal, but has the guts to challenge your pov. get real and smell what you are shoveling. and i am sure you really wanted to on several occasion, Davers > wsi
