QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) Austin Jackson is going to start in CF, I have no doubts about that. Eaton and Melky with Avi sharing time with Melky and Laroche. do you think Avi is better defensively than Melky???

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) I would've been annoyed had we given up assets in yet another trade- the free agent market was where we needed to strike and that's where he struck. Can't blame him if this team flops. if they start off bad, i will be looking to MC and RV to be a big influence on the team coming out of ST. however Laroche, has always started bad in the beginning of the season. how will the coaches deal with that. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...=Career&t=b

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 02:35 PM) I picked who I thought was the best player on the board. I don't think there's an arm outside of Jason Groome that I would have over Moniak, I think his ceiling is that high and since he has a special bat at a premium position it was too good to pass up. I picked Cody because since he's a senior, which would allow to save money and go over in the subsequent rounds of the draft and he might be able to help a major league team in a bullpen role this season. If I'm looking at contending, that appeals to me. that is great reasoning .... don't get me wrong, i know last yr, we differ in the philosophy of the draft and esp the way the sox should or hope they will pick. MM is a great prospects, an exciting CF'er top who can be a 5 tool player. but the chance to get a #1 sp in the realm of Carlos Rodon type of talent, i will go that rt. only b/c the sox are still trying to rebuild and with the team that they have assembled, they will need some pitchers to step up. maybe as quickly as 2017. maybe 2, and the sox have a certified sp in Fulmer.... unless you are counting Beck/Danish/EJ to step in. this draft is a draft full of real talented SP/pitchers that will be avail in the 1 round and comp. but this is my opinion. i still like your reasoning.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) That would be a fascinating situation, that's for sure. the way things go, imho it will go along the lines of race / gender voting. it will also go with who is the VP nom. women of all colors = Hillary Hispanic = depends on the dem VP but cruz ...... //// key to the main hispanic vote African / americans = Hillary LGBT = usually Dem party / Hillary other Race = depends on the msg white males = this is the wildcard..... for the biggest voting majority -
QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 01:47 AM) Engel 4? Don't think so i agree i would have guerrero-sp as #4 and several more in the top 15 shuffle. but that is me and what in hades do i know.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 05:22 AM) Had our first community mock draft of the year on the subreddit. I acted as the White Sox and a second team that escapes me at the moment, here are the results. https://www.reddit.com/r/MLBDraft/comments/...103616_results/ I ended up nabbing: Round 1: Mickey Moniak - I was shocked that he lasted that long, I think that he is a top 5 talent and might be the best pure hitter in the class and he should stay in CF and play solid defense. Comp Pick: Kyle Cody - I got a big arm with Cody that projects to be a solid back of the rotation arm for a plus reliever, should be a fast riser through any team's system. The rest of the results are in the link Mickey is a sweet prospect that is for dang sure. for me, i will go back and preach the idea of pitching, esp when there was front of the rotation #1 projected pitchers. same thing for the comp you had quantrill, garrett and shawaryn, but you also had craig, abreu and alonso for the positional players. ,

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) Your dad sounds like more of a fair-weather fan, not a bandwagon fan. And I got no problems with bandwagon fans. I tried for so long to get my friends in to hockey growing up that I'm happy I finally have a group to watch the games with and talk about the team. It's more fun than being the hipster fan by yourself. Plus, the more money the "bandwagon fans" pump in to the team from buying jerseys and merch, the better! The only thing that bothers me is the fact that it's much harder to go to games now, and when newer fans pretend they have been fans their whole lives, or are diehards. Just own up to it and then it's all good. you made a good point but with ref to Tony's father, i can relate. esp with the sox. i was and still is a die hard fan, going back to 1967 the first game of a newly form team called the STL Blues. i still remember that game. but i was hooked. during the final days of $$ Bill, it was tough in being a fan, i really lost a lot of interest, but i still stuck around. the point is, imagine the decade of the 2000-2016 and imagine no WS for the White Sox. how many would have stuck around, spend good money on this team??? also it appears as Tony's father change his priorities in life, to his family. again, i can see many on this board relating.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 07:42 AM) I know you won't believe me, but I like to ask people in an objective tone IN PERSON what they think of Hillary. I don't pre-judge or lead into it by saying I despise her and can't watch her on TV cause of her voice/yelling. I just ask without tipping my hand on my feelings toward her til later in the discussion. Today two more people went on long rants about how she is a liar and should be in big legal trouble over the email thing. I told these 2 people that nobody seems to care about the email thing and they were adamant and got very upset that they indeed care and it will ultimately bring Hillary down. We shall see. here is my piece. unless the rep party can show they have someone to run, i will choose the dem party person. ref to Hillary, he has been dislike from the get go, whether it is b/c she is the wife of randy Billy boy, i don't know, nor do i care. is it b/c she is a women and is being given alot of freedom, maybe, prob yes. is she a liar, per people perception, ok, let me ask this, which politician isn't a liar??? so yes she is just like many others. is she intelligent, enuf to govern the country, i think so. can't be worst that Bush jr. will she be able to stand up against the other foreign powers, well who is her Secretaries of different offices? i think she may be more qualified of who will be running and if she is a wicked sob that fights for the rights of Americans, that is fine with me. when was the last time the world was really afraid to fucck with America..... Bush Sr, and before him, Reagan.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) Tell me about it. He actually had the gall to refer to Jerry Reinsdorf in this article as an "aggressive owner who always wants to win". I mean, talk about backing up the old saying of "paper doesn't refuse ink". What aggression and what winning is he talking about? GMAFB. well i have been JR and the owners worst critics and with cause. but the signing today. way to go and doing the right thing by going for it.

i NEVER thought that the sox will get it done. i honestly thought they were done and at that price. i was completely wrong. wow.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 05:43 PM) I think if the Reds were going to dump Bruce it he would be gone by now. Bruce has a '17 option so if he can get off to a good start, he would easily net the Reds a better return in July than he would right now. Any players that Bruce might be in the way of would only be for about three months which is nothing for a team that's rebuilding. Also, rebuilding teams want to maximise the returns for their players so waiting a little bit longer would make more sense for the Reds since they know they will not be competing this year anyway. As for CarGo, the Rockies have been waiting for his value to rebound since last winter when they chose not to sell low on him and gambled he would get better, which he did in '15. Now that CarGo has rebounded and the cost of outfielders went up thanks to FA signings this winter, CarGo's contract isn't bad at all. If CarGo continues his rebound in the first half of this season, the Rockies patience will pay off in July and they will get the haul they have been waiting for. As for now, CarGo isn't going anywhere. Let's keep in mind the source of these rumors, Bruce Levine. good sound reasoning and to be honest, prob as close to what the FO's are prob thinking.

Knife found on OJ's estate by construction workers

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 05:06 PM) May be true. State laws are all over the place on that sort of thing. And as Hickory pointed out, OJ has already been tried criminally so that ship has sailed. this is tricky and i am not a criminal lawyer, so they will be needed to answer this. there are several things in play. 1. double jeopardy, 2. something about an acquittal, 3. a new passage of 2003. there is no statue of limitation on murder. ref to #2 if there was a and proof of someone hiding or hindering the process of the law, something that can be brought up to a judge or supreme court for a verdict. ref #3. can ask for a new trial .... but will that also be for cases before 2003. also can they put OJ and or his help or something on trial esp of ron goldman??? -
for me. i am wanting no part of the int'l play, i don't care if it is like the ASG, the chance of injury is too much.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 09:23 PM) All you need to know about Hahn's comments is this, they supposedly stretched the budget for Jimmy Rollins, who, if he sucks in spring training, they owe nothing but the same contract they just gave Loe. It's all just words. Hahn has said they were looking at and needed OF help. He will get one. Just watch, and Uncle Jer will be his competitive self and OK the "stretching of the budget". I would have loved if they signed any of the FA, including Fowler and Desmond, especially if Desmond could play the OF. But they can still upgrade. as long as it doesn't stretch the budget .....
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 08:55 PM) They offered Fowler a contract. Man, some people will buy anything. When the Sox talk money, THEY ARE LYING. We get the same story every year. They try to stretch the budget, competitive Uncle Jerry says OK. The Sox have money for another OF. For the love of God, learn from the past. How many times have they cried poor only to pick up more payroll? A lot more than when they have cried poor and the payroll remained the same or went down. Besides, if the difference between Avi and another OF is a playoff team vs. a team that wins 78 games, there aren't a lot of teams that can afford that particular guy anyway. the only thing i can think is they are thinking either jerry sands or d fields will step up. btw, i an wondering on how the ticket sales are going.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 09:23 PM) Nah. Advanced metrics have pretty much made him a top 15-20 pitcher in baseball. His numbers are pretty identical to Lester and most would consider him an ace. thanks for that info. but i am looking at the idea of perception. but that is the key, however many, like you can look thru that fluff and see the real truth in the Sabe. really great post you made.

ref Q, i am with those that are saying that he will need to produce wins to show his value. other than that, he will never get his just recognition. now, if he doesn't, will that mean, that we, the fans of everything about the white sox maybe are being to bias???

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 05:19 PM) Yeah boxing movies seem to do well, but they also are kind of an outlier in how accomplished directors take on boxing movies. The 1 on 1 aspect and the training journey is ripe with material. It's also just a lot easier to film then a football play. i have been pounding this thought process in my mind and screw it. i am going to post it. creed made alot of money and got a lot of critics saying positive remarks about it, why??? great story. a sentimental feeling with an aging white guy, why did it make the money, b/c of all of the above. white major actor 2 upcoming african american actors. now my all american, great movie, at least for me, a true story, a sentimental love story . receive alot of positive reviews. so why did it not make the money ??? majority of white actors one other movie, ride along 2. i didn't see, i thought it may be stupid yet it made all the money. i assume it is all african american actors. movies are a hit or miss on what many will consider a success.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 05:09 PM) Sports movies as a whole are a dying breed, I think likely because the 30 for 30 format is largely feeding that audience. Watching crappy movie recreations of sports moments aren't holding up to actually watching the footage with context added by those who were there. Had Rush come out 10 years earlier, probably does much better. Miracle was the last sports movie I remember anyone seeing en masse. alot of what you posted makes sense, which i never thought of, esp from that angle. the movie never the less is a great movie and it is more having to do with what he went thru and his stance. in today's world of PC, i just find it hard to agree with most of the reasoning some are using. but this is me and my thought process.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 02:34 PM) And if you want to win, what kind of strategy is selling high? Should the Sox trade Sale, Abreu, Quintana? How will their trade value be any higher? Unless you like perpetual rebuilds, you build around good players. Eaton is a good player. nice post, sometime a need for a specific player for a position is needed, the other team knows this as well, so trading high was needed to get that player and skills set for the sox. but a trade like that should be based on necessity
