  1. interesting article on the trade activity. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thou...trade-deadline/
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 02:18 AM) Enthusiasm for Barret Jackman? The thought of him on the Hawks makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit. No thanks. well, i will respect yours and many others opinion on him. i like him.
  3. this is in ref to movie-goers and racially motivated or not racially motivated moves. i am talking about one movie recently release. The Race the story of jesse owens. this movie is great but yet it hasn't even made 15 mil in the US or overseas. why is that??? this is history and of a great athlete and his going to the olympics before the WW2. why so little attendance ??? not enuf white people in the movies ?? then why is the african americans not supporting it ??? 15 million it has made in 3 weeks.
  4. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 12:53 AM) I agree with this. I think Tony is looking at it from what is best for Eaton, or what Tony would do if he was Eaton. That's a fair take. Tony's also been very clear Eaton said nothing offensive and acknowledged his first amendment rights. This issue has been interesting to watch because a good deal of people are saying "Eaton said nothing wrong" or "Eaton has free speech" and the other group is saying "Eaton shouldn't have said anything even if he wasn't wrong." These two opinions are NOT mutually exclusive, yet the contrasting views are still going up against each other. It doesn't make sense. When it comes down to it, do you think Eaton wanted to apologize for something when he didn't do anything wrong? Do you think he wanted his name dragged in the mud with the word racist? Do you think he wanted to talk with his reps and the Sox to prepare to talk to the media? Do you think he wanted to look Kenny Williams in the eye and have a conversation with him about it? Operate with the understanding of the environment you're in. Everybody is offending by everything now. You will be ridiculed if you're a white male and talk about race in any way that could be misconstrued as anything other than an altruistic view point. If you're a baseball player you should have like three types of tweets. 1.) Charity stuff 2.) Team did awesome today keep it up. 3.) Nice, simple interactions with young fans. Eaton had his issues in the clubhouse in AZ, he has had his issues here and this type of controversy is terrible for him. The only people who will remember the details of this stuff is us, big Sox fans. To execs and evaluators they'll remember some Twitter controversy with him talking about black people. He doesn't need this stuff. During his prime, when he's a great player, nobody is going to fret over it. When he's 36 and coming off an injury-ridden year with poor stats and he wants one more chance, his poor reputation is going to be a big factor on whether a team wants to bring him aboard. Jimmy Rollins can suck for two more years and he'll still get a shot because he's been a consummate pro. If you're a player with a bad rep at the end of your career that rep will play a role in whether you get a last shot. No doubt about it. real nice.... f*** it, it wasn't it was a great post in soooo many ways.
  5. athletes in general, esp eaton, they get this delusion that they are so well liked, they can do no wrong. esp if he is trying to reinforce being the fans favorite. i bet he learned on how something so out of any scope not bad, can be taken the wrong way. esp in the modern day contracts the sports people sign. the clause of imagine and community image and in a positive team image ..... i do not not the who english of such a clause.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 05:20 PM) And there were several WS Champs that weren't exactly stellar defenders. Paulie was decent, but no range, Iguchi was average, Pods couldn't throw, Dye was Dye, AJ not so great. As long as the team makes the plays it's supposed to make...I think sabermetrics makes a bit too much out of most defensive upgrades. There are days OFs really don't have to make a play. nice pov, i like it. i think there is a reliance on Sabe too much.

i been meaning to ask, esp from someone outside the US, and esp in China. what are the general opinions of this elections, esp with these candidates? if you need to, and if there was any comments, i would like to hear what people in other countries are thinking.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 05:02 PM) Not necessarily. I think as Frazier ages he will eventually become a first baseman and should provide a good glove, plus range and good power for the position. LaRoche is gone after '16 and Abreu could move into the DH slot. If Trey isn't ready, Lawrie could play 3B next year and use Sanchez/Saladino at 2B with hopefully Anderson at SS. i agree and many others made excellent pov. finding a position for him will not be a factor. but i think it is up to the owners. why are all the fa's signees doesn't really go beyound 2 yrs??? it is just me and looking too deep, maybe.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 05:13 PM) The White Sox did a good job upgrading their infield defense during the season in 2015. How did that translate wins-wise? If they can be average, they will be fine if they score runs. One of the most exciting teams in the past 40 years was the 1977 Southside Hitmen. They may have had the one of the worst defensive teams ever assembled. man that was a great yr for sox baseball, growing up, however the WS yr was great, esp the playoff, that was great.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 04:47 PM) however, Micah only played there for ~2 months. He can absolutely be a lot worse than Sanchez, and frankly he should be expected to be a defensive downgrade from Sanchez because Sanchez was really good. most definitely in everything you said, ref to MJ-was so bad the pitchers had a somewhat mutiny in uniting to ask management to get him out of there. Sanchez is the best, but the hit tools are not as good as Lawrie... so they are sacrificing defense for offense. i can live with that, but it is up to the players, meaning the pitchers.
  11. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 05:02 PM) Deadspin ‏@Deadspin 3h3 hours ago VIDEO: Brewers minor leaguer can't stop his ridiculous laugh. http://deadsp.in/99IoROt I was in tears listening to Brett Phillips laugh lolol that was a great vid. nice find.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 02:25 PM) Baseball doesn't need to expand. Baseball needs to move TB and OAK to better markets. Best chances for a team to make it: Montreal, Portland, Charlotte i am in agreement here. move them, or allow them to move. what i see as great spots that is built up already, 1. Mont, 2. Van tie with Austin. i still think that chicago and the westren subs can handle another team. vegas and cha i don't know.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) I agree, although I think once they start talking about it, it's going to happen. At that point, MLB will have doubled since 1901; that would be a good place to cap it. What I'm concerned about is radical realignment. If the Sox and Cubs have to play each other 6-8 series per season, I think I might be done with baseball. And if they ever go to 8 divisions of 4 teams, I'm for sure done with baseball. That would be a guarantee of bad teams making the playoffs only because they are the best team of an arbitrary 4-team grouping. It's bad enough with 5-team divisions. 4-team divisions would be a train wreck for baseball. i don't know if i can welcome that idea. maybe i am too much old school and by that comment, i guess i am fishing for my reasoning. i really don't like that.
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) Agreed and in defense of Lawrie, Oakland did bounce him around a bit so the Sox keeping Lawrie at 2B should allow him to become better, to some degree. I think Lawrie has enough quickness to play the position and more than enough arm strength so there's potential for growth at the position. I watched a few highlights of Lawrie last season in Oakland and showed the ability to make some nice plays at 2nd. I really believe the IF defense is going to be good overall. As for the OF, I'm with Eminor. No matter how hard I try, I just cannot fool myself into thinking the OF defense will improve without another addition. I try not to be pessimistic about the overall team but the OF defense is a very deep and dark rabbit hole. The optimist in me still believes Hahn will add, hopefully that comes true. no matter what, he can't be worst than MJ last yr, defensively
  15. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 03:31 PM) Okay. I'll try again. Here's what I can come up with: 1. Being cheap 2. Extremely poor talent evaluation (Avi will be fine!) 3. Blackmail? Dissention in contract talks? 4. Hidden injury/other reason to believe player isn't as good as before. Only #4 makes the situation justifiable. But then it also makes the failure to acquire an alternative LESS justifiable. I don't want to feel this way, help me. i am really resisting my posting anything on this thread, but i will agree with this post, esp #1 and 2
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 05:01 PM) Hostetler was scouting Senzel personally in the beginning of the off season, i really thought he was or will be the dark horse as some other not well known hitters.

    **2016 Films Thread**

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) I would agree. It was a great movie, probably one of the most visually stunning films I've seen. I think it got the nod as a best picture nominee for that and the fact that they've expanded the number of films that can be nominated. But it wasn't on the same level as Spotlight (which I watched the day of the Oscars). I'm not sure I agree with expanding the number of films for best picture. I might agree that there are more than 5 each year that deserve recognition, but in the past it didn't seem to be a huge deal when five were nominated. There was always talk of snubs and surprises, but you still hear about that now when up to 10 can be nominated. All that being said, I think the right film won. And Mad Max won the awards it should have won. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 04:22 PM) I think Mad Max was actually one of the best storytelling movies I've seen in a long time. And I mean that in how the actual filmmaking was telling the story, as opposed to a screenplay and dialogue. The pace was right on. This year we saw filmmakers do an incredible job of keeping their stories moving. Spotlight took an incredibly difficult story to tell, that goes off the rails in so many "serious movies", and was pitch perfect. Same with Big Short. But I don't think those were any more difficult to make than Mad Max. At this point, safe to assume almost all of its audience was familiar but probably hadn't seen Mad Max originals. He set up the backstory with minimal drag, and jumped right into it. I think the "Then who killed the world" line was one of the best in the movies. Looking back, this year with Creed, Big Short, Spotlight, Mad Max and star wars, had to be one of my favorite years in a while. November/December especially. both post were excellent this was a very good yrs at the movies, my point is, star wars was just a good visually as mad max imo, and on some i thought it was better. but that is me. as on another post, in the main sox thread, watching movies and racially explosive. this is me, i hate those silly kind of movies like ride along and comedies. but i like comptom and barbershop. so for me, it is what people like or dislike as oppose to racially drawn movies as some says.
  18. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 03:08 AM) http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/which-l...xpansion-022816 http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/how-wou...baseball-022816 John Paul Morosi had a good take on possible expansion and realignment today. It would be nice to see Montreal get a team back, and I think Vancouver and Austin would be good spots as well. The realignment proposal is interesting and he's really just throwing stuff at the wall. Seeing the Sox in a division with the Cubs, Cardinals and Brewers would be fun though. i am spit-ballin here, why not a another team in joliet, or schaumburg ??? do you think chi can handle another baseball team??
  19. QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 02:45 AM) It was a total depth move, he's like the 11th Dman on the depth chart. And I'm fairly convinced LDF is thinking of Barret Jackman. damn, you are right. crap. i am wrong. my enthusiasm got the best of me and i really hate being wrong. but ...... many thanks.
  20. this just dawn on me, we got Tim Jackman. i always liked him. he has this never say die or never back down kind of a player. he was like behn wilson who players kept on hitting and it never faze him, .... i like the move. for my own personal opinion of bowman, i gots to give him many kudos for getting this team ready.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 12:44 AM) I think they got a mandate from above to hold on to their 2017 picks because they are hosting the draft. That was why the Canadiens got 2018 2nd round pick thanks for that heads up, but you are right. that is why i am hoping that the extra picks the hawks have can be pkg for an additional pick in 2017. this is what i may want to come in for. the draft ..... i was at the nhl all star, white sox held the all star. yeah i hope i can make arrangement to make in... but first the playoff.
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 09:55 PM) Chicago Blackhawks ‏@NHLBlackhawks 3m3 minutes ago #Blackhawks acquire F Tim Jackman, a seventh-round pick in the 2017 Draft from ANA in exchange for F Corey Tropp. i like it, piling up on the 2017 draft picks. i hope at this draft, after they, the hawks takes cares of unfinished business, will pkg some of their picks to more in 2017.
  23. QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 09:06 PM) None of us have any idea what really goes on in trades, but I have a hunch the Hawks will be able to move Bickell on draft day without too much of a problem. There are going to be 3-4 teams well under the floor at that point and with a simple one year commitment to Bickell instead of multiple seasons, acquiring a decent prospect back isn't a terrible gamble for a rebuilding team. It doesn't change your long term rebuild plans and you are getting an asset back with Bickell. exactly, to finally get from under that contract. i see a huge pkg to get rid of him, the hawks, as i mention will have to foot this bill. either way, i am really excited on this team and the pieces added,
  24. QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 08:43 PM) They won't be able to move him at the deadline. It just doesn't make sense for another team to do it now, unless the Hawks want to severely overpay to make something happen. I think it's more likely they find a team in the off-season that wants to get to the cap floor and isn't competing in 2016-2017. I think the goal is to retain no salary for his last year, but you'll have to add a decent prospect into the package for someone to take that 4 million. yeah i totally agree, the hawks would really need to severely overpay, and with the cap and the bread man bonus, i think they will need to complicate that. but that is the offseason .... now to get my hopes of a nice cup run. btw, many thanks for the info.
  25. going back to the hawks, i look at the team and where the cap is at, i can't see any more moves to improve the team. now a miracle can happen and bickell can be traded. question, if he is traded, depending if the hawks sends money along, how much in the cap does the hawks gets back. for this discussion, lets assume the hawks sends 2 mil with him.
