  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) Is there a plausible alternative in this situation though? and what happens if there is a full staff of pitchers, just b/c a player and or his agent are saying that he should be pitching in the majors, should the team change everything around to please them?
  2. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 03:31 PM) I hope Anderson turns into an All-Star, and I could see it happening. But I think it's more likely that Semien turns into a league-average infielder than Anderson does. To me, Anderson, highly-rated and toolsy as he is, has a lot more to prove. He has to -hit at the upper minors -learn plate discipline -improve significantly in the field (and/or move to the OF, where the bar will be ever higher for offense) -adjust to the majors That's a lot to do. He has a lot of time to do it, but statistically the chances of him overcoming all these things seem less likely than the one step Semien has: adjusting to the majors. I believe that Anderson has a higher ceiling, but again that is not the only factor at play here. and while i agree with what you are saying, how can you arbitrarily write him off, by saying someone will preform better. he needs to prove himself and develop.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) I don't understand why Rodon should play the game of rooting for the White Sox to get another year of his performance at sub-market value. I understand why we fans want it, but I don't understand why he should also be totally onboard for not getting paid all he can for his ridiculously rare talent. it is really not about the money, the sox do not need him in the first month or the few weeks of the season. it is cold, windy and a rookie, yeah a promising rookie does not need that conditions, he can be in the minors working on endurance and arm strength. so when the sox do need him, esp for the playoff, he will not have that many innings pitched and can, maybe be the surprise this team needs in the playoff. it is about the playoff and i really don't give a holy crap about anything else. if he and his agents get hurt, well deal with the hurt feeling while pitching the sox in the playoff.
  4. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) I'm sure money's in the back of his mind and he has a good healthy sense of how much he can make (ie the agent he hired) I still think it's his competitiveness that drives him to want to make the team out of spring training. Don't all athletes want to compete against the best, be the best? They hire agents to worry about the money. but the coaches will know if he is ready to play in the majors. what is the total of his innings pitched? he barely had 150 innings in the majors. he needs real time experience. the kind of experience he will get with repetitions. even if it in AA or AAA. he needs reps. saying and talking about he is or should be pitching in the majors or break camp with the sox or whatever, he is not doing himself any favors.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) I agree. Now that he is gone, Semien's likely outcome is being confused with his ceiling, possibly as a way to lessen the feeling of loss with him being traded. I am a big Semien fan — good plate discipline, some speed, some power, decent glove. I get that he doesn't have as "loud" of tools or as high of a ceiling as a guy like Tim Anderson, but ceiling isn't everything. I know this may be a minority opinion, but I think when it's all said and done, Seimen will have a better major league career than Anderson. kind of a bold statement, but while i like your opinion, i don't see it. i think anderson bat maybe ready to make a run for the majors this, but it is field position that is still in question and developing still. i like anderson bat, and don't get me wrong, i really like semien. only time will tell.
  6. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) While I love his competitive nature I really don't think he's ready yet and I don't think money or any of that is on his mind just yet. He wants to compete with the best because he believes he's one of the best. Nothing wrong with that. The Sox will know more by the end of spring training and then we'll see how it'll work out. with all due respect, but do you really believe it is his competitive nature that has him saying this? look at wash and B Harper this offseason. it was all competitive, yup, between his agent and wash fo about his tenure and salary. it about the money, i think the sox fo will have a better idea on him and whether he is good enuf to help the team come playoff.
  7. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 07:14 AM) Those two would make a nice pickup at the deadline it would be like making a trade without making a trade.
  8. QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 05:58 AM) ? i screwed up, he pitched 4 innings with 5 k's, 3-hits, 1-er. per college game center.
  9. update on draft future prospect Walker Buehler RHP pitched 4 shutout innings with 1 er on 3 hits and 5 k's. Happ - 2 for 2 - 1 hr - 5 rbi's - raising his avg to 545.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 07:11 PM) See Hoffman, Fedde, Aiken, etc. There were lots of concerns guys like Gio and Stroman were too small or slight of stature to starters...or about consistency of delivery, mechanics, pitchability...high stress vs. low stress motions. i agree, if it concerns a injury with a TJ procedure as the answer, but Matuella has a rare situation. i would let the medical people who knows about this explain further.
  11. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) Plenty of pitching on the market this offseason; I'm not sweating it. yes, the market will have a slew of great pitchers on the market, but with the sox being sooo close, i rather not waste another 1st rnd pick. unless it really makes sense.
  12. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 01:27 AM) The White Sox have five starting pitchers under contract on the major league roster and two viable major league lefities in the bullpen. Tony Clark can look all he wants. Me personally, I'd rather spend April and May in Charlotte as opposed to Chicago. Charlotte is super duper this time of year. i would assume that Rodon would rather suffer the cold in order to be a FA 1 yr earlier.
  13. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) Can someone explain the benefits for the sox to wait? I know a lot of teams do wait for financial reasons but what are the benefits? i believe for waiting for some months, the sox can control him for 1 full extra yr before he becomes a FA.
  14. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 07:31 PM) I don't think anyone should put these words together in sentence again. No one honestly believed Rose could stay healthy for a full season, that was also one of the reasons Melo didn't sign here. We are also not mentioning the obvious fact that Thibs likes the 2 PG rotation late in games. Putting it in perspective, Brook is only average 2 minutes less than Augustin when both played as reserves, and we still had Hinrich on the roster. If we let Hinrich walk, DJ would have gotten a lot more minutes both as a starter and as the first guard off the bench. I don't think DJ makes us a title contender, and no one is saying that. But DJ is more of a capable starting point guard than Brooks is if Rose goes down. He at least won't put a hole at that spot. I think going into next season, we need to look for someone who could step in to start to back up Rose, preferably someone even better than DJ. If we rely on a backup PG to start for Rose again, it's going to be a waste of a season. yeah, i was even starting to look into a PG for this yrs draft.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 3, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) Baltimore's inner harbor area is nice, lots to do. But once you get a few blocks out from there, it goes downhill very quickly in every direction. St Louis isn't bad, plenty of fun to fill a weekend at least. I'm personally of the mind that you can go to just about any decent sized town or city in the US, and if you look into it a bit, you can find at least a weekend's worth of fun stuff to do. You just might have to dig a little. i don't know if this qualified or not, how bout Detroit. that was one city i never wanted to see any sports in.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 07:34 PM) For me it comes down to if Herm and his staff are OK with it as well as Coop. 100% correct.
  17. yeah i know and i have to keep reminding myself that it is too early to think of injury of any kind toward Matuella. i should wait until he plays again or until something is announce by other source. but, i would really think extremely hard on selecting him. now if it is a Tommy John injury, that is 1 thing, but if it is related this anything else, well i just don't know. he does have the goods to be a really good pitcher.

    Law/Legal Thread

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 05:04 PM) Well, if that is the case, it is a much more serious issue in which you would be wise to speak to a personal injury attorney. Most consultations are free and most you pay nothing unless they win the case, which is generally 33% of the judgment/settlement. The financial situation of the guy is also a key factor in determining whether or not someone will take the case. But this goes without saying, don't stoop to this guy's level and get yourself into trouble for criminal battery/assault or worse. there was a time, i thought, that one can go and press criminal charges. btw, talking about revenge on a forum is really not a way to go.
  19. QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 06:06 PM) Who cares? It's not his choice. exactly, but it won't stop him from talking about it.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) Yep, but the SOX will wait until May. i will go even further and say, he is going to say otherwise, or so he can start his time so he can become a free agent sooner.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) Would rather throw $30-$40 million at Alvares...lets just put it this way, you always bet on three of those young possible studs in their twenties compared to a guy already in his thirties getting $100 million plus. That said, the presence of Montas and another top ten pick in a draft loaded with collegiate pitchers mitigates the pressing need, at least somewhat. i am in a big debate over this, with myself. is he worth the salary that he may want, well no-one really knows, b/c he has said he will test the waters of FA's. that is what the union has given him, per his own statement. now if the sox FO wants to throw a huge amount, something like 30 mil per, i am sure he would sign. if the sox had obtain other missing pieces to win it, per fan's opinions, then may 1 yr extra of Jeff S for a 30 mil rental. this will continue to help the growth of the system, the bridge to the other prized pitchers developing and it may even get a possible 2 ws ring if not, let him walk and get another draft pick. regardless, this was how the FO was thinking when they traded for him in the first place. this shouldn't come to any surprise to the sox FO.
  22. well its been a week since Matuella had a sore arm/elbow. he pitched the first 3 shut innings against NC. then he was pulled. question is, was he pulled b/c of a sore limb or was he pulled b/c he was on a pitch count? it was Duke vs NC. NC won easily. there is 2 names coming from the NC team that i am seeing alot. the one i am becoming interested is J.B. Bukauskas P. he made a name for himself during the Cape last yr. another name is Skye Bolt, CF who in some mock has him going in the 20's. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/74657366/pot...t-of-2014-draft doing some research on Matuella, he has been having this same type of problems for the last couple of yrs, his pitching arm, while he does throw in the mid 90's but his history. interesting story of him and his illness. http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=10897
  23. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) What happened 2 or 3 years ago dosen't matter, when White was circling interviews the new CBA was already in effect. What happened 2 or 3 years ago is irrelevant. And you can still bring in guys like White and Greg Morhardt (The guy who scouted Trout) into the org without firing anybody. yeah it is called something like special assistant in scouting to whomever.
  24. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 07:31 PM) Love Swanson as far as hitting prospects. He was my early pick to win the golden spikes award. i will be honest here, i wasn't really enamored with him for hitting as i was with Happ, Tucker, Thompson from early as last, lets say, October. but i started to look at the infield a little more this past month. i am liking him more and more. i am still not sure on his hitting, but he can still play his position.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 01:25 AM) Ryan Baker of channel 2 just called Jon Lester's 2 inning sprng training debut "historic". this freaking love of everything northside, its freaking bull shiiite
