QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 08:19 AM) Your first post was that stealing was an inherent talent and not learned yet you argue when I and others said many things can be learned to improve your abilty to steal. And you asked for thoughts. You got mine so don't cry bout being contradicted. there is a way to reply without belittling. that was the point that got to me. do not post as you are superior. btw, reread your post and see how you made this as an argumentative thread. btw i am not crying, it is you who can't stand be proven wrong. you are really petty during this whole rant. btw, the other part of my post was about the idea of being too aggressive when the sox have some of the best talent coming up behind eaton.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) You couldn't be more wrong on this. Many consider the 1984 draft to be one of, if not the best draft in NBA history. Olajuwon, Jordan, Barkley and Stockton were all drafted in the first round and all are obviously in the Hall of Fame and all are top ten all time players at their position. Alvin Robertson, Kevin Willis and Otis Thorpe were also All-Star level players drafted in that same draft. i was wrong in the yr. my bad thanks for correcting me.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 02:56 AM) Keep in mind usually 6-10 players each first round never touch the majors. Another 10-15 have pretty limited impact, under 20 career WAR usually. MLB is even more inexact than NBA scouting. Everyone knows the Mike Trout story, Piazza, Pujols, Buehrle, etc. Plus "system" programs can make college players (like Duke, UNC, KY or Kansas) look a lot better than they are in reality...most Kansas teams, their points have traditionally been scored in transition. In the NBA, it's a lot of isolation plays...and possessing the ability to break down a defense, equipped with multiple skills, rather than merely being a good outside shooter like a Trajan Langdon type. really.... i don't know, but i think those numbers may be skewed a little. its more like that up to 6-10 out of the first rnd may touch the majors. a while back, early in the offseason, i was bored and looked up some draft yrs, like the yr Trout came out. only a handful made it. mlb is hard, esp if you have a limited natural god given gift to play ball. i guess that is why i love the reading of info on the prospects. to gage and see who develops. i can't help it, i get bored easily. ref nba, look at MJ's draft, if i remember correctly only 2 players became great players, and 1 became a so/so player.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 01:41 AM) Nope. Nix is also there (who was part of the same draft and already settled out of court with the Astros about losing his $1.5 million after the Aiken negotiations fell apart). thanks for the update. i totally forgot about Nix.

i was never a fan of his. now that he is off the team, i hope the best for him.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 11:08 PM) Well, I've no longer penciled him in, let's say that. for me, i refuse to accept players like him, Erik Johnson, to suddenly turn horrible. as i said for hawkins last yr, i would like to see how they do with one more yr before i can come to conclusion on them.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 02:35 AM) No one is a natural . Sure the faster you are the better your chances. I'm sure Coleman learned a lot of things along the way that helped him . You don't reach the pinnacle of the highest levels of any sport without gaining a lot of knowledge along the way and putting that knowledge to good use. If things can't be taught why hire the guy ? He knows he has a lot to offer otherwise he might just say " Either you got it or you don't, end of coaching lesson. " Thank you Captain Obvious for stating he won't be teaching the slowest of the slow runners . The guys he's instructing all have speed, Eaton, Michah Johnson, Carlos Sanchez, Tim Anderson , Avi Garcia but his most important lessons are baserunning not steals , going 1st to 2rd on a single or 2nd to home. He constantly speaks about imparting the knowledge so it becomes second nature which with practice turns it into an instinctual thing. In other words you can LEARN to be a natural. well at least if i am captain obvious, b/c you are really missing the point. btw, this is like playing a record so this is my last post on this. the bolded is a product of talent, natural inherent that the powers to be bestow on them at birth. they needed talent in order to be special. now i am sure you can't be that determine to acknowledge what i am saying is true. Vince had the talent to become a premiere basestealer and will pass along his knowledge to others who may not have the god given talent to be as good, but can become a better player via coaching and what to look for. this knowledge will not let a player steal some 50+ bases but can improve in being aggressive. lastly even you acknowledge on what i was saying about being aggressive on the base path, to take advantage of the little things, that a coach of vince's caliber can teach, and that is what i was saying in my first post, to be smart but not be too aggressive in the first yr. this takes time.... obviously this is something you couldn't understand. btw, no one can not be taught to be natural or else there would be many, many players who should be playing major league ball, instead of reaching a plateau of being avg or below avg. wake up and smell the coffee.

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
LDF replied to justBLAZE's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
if it was an overreaction, it is based or should i say it is as a result of frustration. Rose has really rotten luck on getting hurt. this is not a person who just fakes things so he could get days off. he gets injuries that requires surgery. i feel for him. now the bulls are behind the 8-ball b/c of this. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) Ya, I'm not one of Micah's biggest fan but it's obvious that the organization does love him. while you may be right, i don't know if it is love, but more like he is still considered a prospect with potential. man this systems needs more prospects. plain and simple.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 12:39 AM) Kind of silly to say anyone who has played ball knows it's an inherent natural talent and not learned. There wouldn't be guys like Vince Coleman hired to teach if it was a natural talent and just speed. A guy like Eaton who stole maybe 16 but was caught 9 times has plenty of speed but needs to learn the finer points, reading pitchers, running on counts where you might think an offspeed pitch is coming, extending your lead , knowing pitchers moves ( who might use a slide step to quicken their delivery), knowing catchers with fast releases and strong arms, There are even ways to increase your acceleration like head position, stride length, arm action and lead leg action. Also you can work out to increase acceleration also strengthening your gluts and hamstrings. http://blog.athletesbrand.com/chalk-talk-g...n-acceleration/ and it is kind of assine to think that vince did all of his stealing b/c someone taught him and not b/c he was a natural. no matter how good of a coach vince is, he will not be able to teach someone like paulie k. who is slow of foot. i would be more comfortable if he was around for 2 yrs and sharing his wealth of knowledge, but at the same time in the first season, not let the pupils so to speak be ultra aggressive. i guess it is the aggressiveness on the base path i am thinking about.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 11:47 PM) I loved the ending, and it's all completely realistic in a world where our theories about space and time are actually true. If you're outside of time and space, you can access any time and any where at any moment. i understand the concept but going into a closet type and start sending msg back in time.... well let me say, there is no bases of well this can happen or not. fvvck i am an old fart and me ben franklin had a hell of time drinking and chasing skirts. my problem i didn't know what to do when i caught 1. i was too young.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) ESPN Chicago @ESPNChiHawks 8m8 minutes ago The Blackhawks have acquired forward Spencer Abbott from the Maple Leafs in exchange for defenseman T.J. Brennan. ESPN Chicago @ESPNChiHawks 7m7 minutes ago Abbott, 26, has seven goals and 17 assists in 46 games in the AHL this season. He has played in one career NHL game. SiriusXM NHL Network @SiriusXMNHL 4m4 minutes ago BREAKING TRADE- @NHLDevils Jaromir Jagr to @FlaPanthers for a Second round pick and a conditional third . As cool as it would have been to see Jagr in a Hawks jersey, I don't think this version of him would have helped all that much. but i bet he will most definitely help in the captaincy.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 10:29 PM) Finally saw Interstellar and it blew my s*** away. Loved it. it was a very good movie... but the ending. it was like they realize it was a long movie and have it come to an end. i love the idea of the story line of continue growth of the children as he leaves. damn, that was a hard choice. some of matthew mcconaughey best acting.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 10:18 PM) Well if people have given up on him, they're crazy. I am not optimistic about him making it, but you don't give up on a guy like that. esp not after 1 yr.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 09:47 PM) It all depends on what Johnson told the team, and when. good point. thanks

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 08:52 PM) Inflamation in his shoulder would explain the loss of velocity. then why didn't they shut him down earlier. that excuse does not wash. if i remember correctly they also sent him to get examine and he still went to the minor to pitch. i maybe be wrong on this.

now remember going into 2015. i like the general hype of the sox prospects. helps to keep a good perspective going into spring training. plus i like to read about all of the sox prospects. this is going to be a great spring and nice summer.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) Thanks for this. If you ever read Larry on SSS I'm the exact same way on Micah. I don't see the hype and I guess I don't see why the hell the Sox do. I mean, WTF has he done other than put together 200 nice PA in high A ball? He hasn't even STAYED HEALTHY in for a full season yet. FFS, back the hype train up on this guy. The Sox can totally carry Sanchez' 240/280/330 if he's 10 runs above average at 2B, and I think he is. Micah won't hit much more than that and he might be -20 runs at 2B. Put him AAA, wtf is the rush. sorry but i am coming late to this party. i am a big fan of Micah. so if a team who are making a living as scouts and judging talent see potential, they get excited about it. Micah may have all that kind of potential oozing out of him. Look at the hype on Rodon. he never played a full season in the minors and look the hype. sometime people need to have faith on the people who does this. not to pick and choose which hype to believe in.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 07:27 AM) Yeah it's because he still needs to come off as "straight" and his agents probably suggest he does those things. For being so full of liberals, Hollywood is waaaay behind the times when it comes to being openly gay. i hate to say this, b/c being gay or not should not matter. but hollywood imo still think that the viewers who goes to movies will not buy the gay person playing a romantic role. some also probably thinks some fans will be lost if they knew if they are gay or not. hollywood is still basing their opinions on perceptions of the fans.

QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) I never read or heard any details, but the word out there was he was a party boy. I guess you can't hit the big city lights every nite and still be on your game. Too bad, he could resist everything but temptation. thanks, douglas again it is the idea of being able to perform. how can one judge if they are on their game when statistically it changes every game. ex- a player can go 0 fer with proper sleep and a curfew, and a person who partied can also go a 0 fer. the performance of a player changes daily.
