QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 03:26 AM) I like Pickett, but he's not going in the top 10, there's no buzz around him that would suggest that To my knowledge. P I really like Phil Bickford at 8 but I'm curious about his height, I've seen him listed at 6'4 on his team sites but fangraphs had him at 6'0. This would cause some doubt about him being a starter or reliver. I also like Dillion Tate, Ashe Russell and Brady Aiken I hope the pick at 8 is Michael Matuella, who I believe will fall on draft day. this weekend, everyone will know how Matuella is, whether he is hurt or not. they have him listed to pitch an important game. this weekend there is going to be a good matchup, Vandy vs UCLA and 2 top prospect pitcher dueling it out. i think Vandy will win, not b/c of Fulmer pitching, but b/c they have the best talent going against UCLA and James Kaprelian. another thing i noticed, as college ball is starting, i wonder if the top 7 that all the mocks have projected, i wonder if someone new may rise quickly or in Matuella if an injury will drop them. hey Josh, i wonder if making a list of the top prospects plus some added sleepers list with ongoing stats is a good idea. pretty much like sox pride did last week. your thoughts????

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 12:09 AM) Put him in the minors. Call him up later so we can hold that extra year of control over him because Boras. i really like that idea. -
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 12:50 AM) I'm not saying that he didn't, I have actually been hoping for this promotion since last year, when I became aware of him and his role in the org. Im aware of both Paddy and Bell, I was a big fan of the Paddy signing and I love what the Sox have been doing internationally. I hope Todd Severson can install a hitting philosophy throughout the organization, but that seems to be taking place as he holds the camps every offseason and is pretty hands on during instructs. It is dais that Hahn is a pretty well connected guy throughout MLB, and if that is the case I would love to see him bring in some more people from the outside and give some guys who are already in the org bigger roles, like Nick Capra for example. There was one scout in particular that I was upset that the Sox didn't pursue and that was Logan White, who was the Dodgers' scouting director. He handled both the draft and INTL market for the Dodgers and he brought in Kershaw, Puig, Seager, Ryu, Eithier, Pederson, Russell, Carlos Santana etc. He is highly respected in baseball circles. To my understanding, White and Coletti got into an argument over the lack of growth in the minor leagues, specifically because of guys like Zach Lee not developing quickly. So White had a lot of his duties stricken from him, Coletti would go on to lose his job a year or two later and the Dodgers have one of the farms in all of baseball thanks to White, who is now a special assistant to the GM in San Diego. I followed the situation on MLBTR, hoping to see the Sox mentioned and they never pursued him (from what I was able to gather through MLBTR and True Blue.) Yes this is one instance, and the Sox have gone outside to nab Paddy and Bell, but I wasn't too see more new blood and I reallyb want Hahn to really make the FO his own. and this Logan White would have been what i was talking about, bringing in someone to help the system grow, to get stronger.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 12:00 AM) at least 2 more seasons IMO....Anderson's not even close. As for Rodon today...he's nasty. Didn't really notice him working ridiculously slow...maybe a little...but that slider...Good Lord!!!!!! i know it is only 1 game, but do you think he may be ready at the beginning of the season or a little more seasoning is needed in the minors?? stuff wise. -
weird time to read this, well at least for me. Callis has sox at 8 picking Vandy SS Swanson. here is the link http://m.mlb.com/news/article/103053582/20...ayo-call-top-10 ref mock 3-6. on this mock site, last month they had the sox picking Swanson as well and now... some HS outfielder i haven't seen before. https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...draft-3-1-3615/

i was just reading on the returning players, vanderbilt and virgina are stacked. unless i didn't read it right, Vandy does not play Virgina. too bad. i would have love to see that game.

even on talk about his contract, Jeff S is still saying "we" when talking about the sox and the plans of playing better and getting talent for the playoff. (a little of embellishment here) here is the link nice story. i am starting to really like him as a player. http://www.prosportsdaily.com/articles/sam...-it-344820.html

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) FWIW, this doesn't mean they haven't been talking to the agent. wasn't there someone who said they knew of someone who knew someone who heard someone say that Jeff was signing with the sox some months ago.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 06:19 PM) http://www.southsidesox.com/minors/2013/2/...s-back-on-track Just be patient. This article (two years old) cites the hiring of seven new Latin American scouts, increased intl. spending and it also predates Micker Adolfo. Everything is trending up...majors, minors and draft/international. Whereas we might have been 25th or 26th entering last year, we've already jumped to the 13-16 range overall by many subjective and some analytical measures. me??? i have all the patients in the world. but come on now, it been 2 freaking yrs, the world was made in 6 days. what is taking them so long.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/03/hect...ucl-damage.html Wonder who leaked this out there as a negotiating tactic? Astros again? Probably not, since they already have Altuve and Correa. prob, didn't they tried to do that with a player who just packed up and went somewhere else. i think it was mentioned in mlbtrade rumors.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 10:19 PM) Anderson not exactly quieting his doubters, but he could make ten to twelve errors and they'd probably give him 130 games in Birmingham still. Sounds like that was a very routine play, just lack of focus or concentration. Maybe pressing or trying too hard to impress, especially after the two errors yesterday. before i bail on him, i would like to see him in a full season in the minors. but i would also like to commit to Aelexia for that extra season. i think it is an option yr. -
but the real point is, it would be a huge mistake to fire Thib's. the bulls went thru a dry period until Thib's came onboard. he is a very good coach. get rid of Gar. btw, isn't there a college coach that someone from the bulls FO's likes??

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 10:57 PM) the great Tim Floyd dang it, you beat me to it, i just went to google to find it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 08:02 PM) 1 error. For the past decade+ they're alternating between horrible mistakes and solid hires. Scott Skiles was a solid hire following up Bill Cartwright. Skiles wore down the team and they contracted VDN. After being cured of VDN, they hired Thibs. Next hire = expected to be awful. i forgot about skiles and in a way, i thought he was a mistake. but i am prob wrong. i was also thinking about that college coach, krause's friend who coach. he was a complete joke.

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 07:17 PM) This is the dumbest thing I ever heard. The selfishness and ego's that are going around the Bulls organization is an outright joke. The whole point that all of you are there is to win championships and you still don't think you could stand working together even after a championship? They are all acting like little b****es. this is the dumbest thing the bulls under this current ownership has done. that is to the best of my memory will take me. 1 question, before Thib's, how long and how many errors did the bulls went thru, before they found a good coach?????

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 06:37 PM) Spring Training baseball. You gotta see who's hungry. nice point. i like it. -
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 05:23 PM) As I said earlier, replacement players often outperform expectations when starters are out, so it gives the perception that we can win without our best players. I think Thib's teams win with effort as much as talent, especially on defense and rebounding. When we are the favorites or when we're playing ahead, guys get complacent and start coasting. We lose the advantage in the effort department. It's a bit frustrating at times, but I think it's true. many thanks, for your observation. it kind of reminds me of a mike keenan kind of a team, and keenan keeping pressuring his players to not loose that atention and continuing to press his players.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 05:23 PM) putting pressure on Beckham by having him hit 2nd.... interesting esp with davidson in the lineup as well. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 04:09 PM) Haber is much more similar to Hahn than KW. You need your contract negotiators, and your talent evaluators in equal measure, and, on rare occasions, you have front office guys proficient at both. To be disappointed in much beyond the smaller moves fizzling (like Keppinger) is pretty much an impossible argument to make given where this organization was 18 months ago. exactly, this org in on the cusp of being great with great prospects. so adding to the minor league talent eval is needed and more scouts.
-
QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) Who's taking it personally? I feel like I'm at least co-piloting the Beckham Sucks Express - I needed something to do once Viciedo was gone - and I don't think I've said anything nasty. Any examples anywhere? you could jump onboard with me and my boat of sox ownership spending more money. i am the only one here. it getting lonely.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) I'll never understand why some people take bad baseball players so personally. its not that i take it seriously, its that i am never wrong. until most people understand its, like will be much better.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 04:02 PM) Emilio Bonifacio, Carlos Sanchez, Micah Johnson, Tyler Saladino, JB Shuck, Michael Taylor, etc. EDIT: Honestly, even Leury Garcia. good one. i like the response. but most of those players will make the team, those that don't needs time in the minors. so in essence, he really taking at bats from those.
