QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) Sox pulling out stops to bump attendance http://t.co/hjEmvgGGib https://twitter.com/ESPNChiSox/status/559790322784292864 i have a problem with this hype bs that is now going to permeate every media outlet. some of which i was wanting, but pls use intelligent data. they are assuming that all things being equal, that the fans base will do like 2005.... or hope for a goal of that. but come on, there is no absolute with this team as assemble. there are intangibles that has to be taken into account. injuries with no backup. etc....

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 10:18 PM) It's rankings week at FutureSox! Meanwhile... any predictions? i really can't wait..... btw. your ranking is sooo freaking close to the professionals, it like seeing what they will come out with. yess

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 09:15 PM) Even in comparison, how much of net profits are driven by ticket sales vs. concessions, etc. Clearly Sox have a sweet-heart stadium lease which probably means their gate attendance ultimately drives a higher proportion of revenues vs. media / tv deals than certain teams but would be very curious to see the breakout. do you know which team is raking it in now..... the dodgers. what a deal they got.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) How much do ticket sales ultimately drive the payroll these days (after you back out the lease costs, vendor costs, etc)? I don't know the answer, but actual ticket sales are becoming a much smaller component of the revenue equation, right? I'd be curious on the percentage. you got a valid point, the ticket sale are really to be a second thought, esp with tv deals and all. the revenue of vendor and etc... is basically where the money comes from in the 2 source. writz and business shows you have to own the product, and / or get it lease to a really inexpensive way. a soda drink is only cost the companies 4 cents.... the company that owns the hot dog and other food product which the sox also forces the vendor to buy from them as well comes from the sports serv corp. how bout the corp advertising how much money from that???? now a smart account will find a way to diversify that with the lease of the park at such a great deal. JR was trying to buy the ownership of the PHX hockey team.... 75 mil. and he wanted the city to foot the lease and to lease it to JR as even a cheaper rate. JR is not stupid.... he is a great business man.... maybe not as good as writz.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) How much bigger was the fan base at that time? hahaha ... very good. but are you saying the worth of the sox is based on fans??? so all that extra income can't be counted or used. they made the money during games that the fans should up. it has a lot to do with the sox's accountants..... they are the real all stars here. business being business, the fans will come out in droves if they put a winner on the field. believe you me, they will do great in that area, the fan attendance. so the sox should not go for it, b/c the fans did not pay first. how bout put the winning team, a playoff and a possible world series team, let natural attrition take care of the older players, let the younger one come on up and fill the spot.... wow you are talking about a dynasty. let me give you another true story, Bill Writz had a series of mtg with chi owners in the early 80's. he was showing on how to put the product on the field the park, the ice. let the really good seats owners start to pay...... yearly and in advance. pocket it that extra money in the back... now the bank gives special rates for deposits in incremental deposits. lets say $$500,000 they will get a higher rate, $$1 mil even a higher rate and so on ... the bears started this and as of 1999 they have a waiting list, pre paid for 5 yrs plus. the bulls had a 4 yr waiting list + during the MJ yrs. blawhawks, writz had a 3yr ..... the sox couldn't get that lucky.... they had a chance after 2005 by screwed up and the acquisitions area and the coaching screw up. ozzie did more harm than anyone never imagine in the future of the sox. so now, JR wants pre paid season tickets investment so he can ahhh cough cough get the players needed to field the team. give me a freaking break. btw SS2k5.... i hope you know this is for a friendly conversation. i don't mean anything personal... ok

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) Would you trade Chris Sale or Jose Abreu to get him? hahaha crazier things have happen. can you believe that tor was thinking on Hoffman as payment.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 07:36 PM) I agree with the assessment of the Sox being on the highest end of possible payroll, based on what I have read about their numbers through Forbes. this is Forbes 2015 mlb white sox. not all is being rpt as i mention the other income thru their other secondary companies. like chi sports serv, shared with the blawkhawks bismark corp. the sox can spend the money. they used to have salary in the 120-130 before. i am not saying have a payroll of the yanks bos or dodgers. but don't cry poor and go the cheap route when that is how they have done in the past. http://www.forbes.com/teams/chicago-white-sox/

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 07:55 PM) IMHO, there's no reason not to be enthusiastic. The Sox recognized the many holes on the team and addressed a majority of them. They still have some question marks but overall I think Hahn nailed it so far this winter and gave fans lots of hope and even more to talk about. Plus, they should have some wiggle room in the payroll if they need to make a trade or two at the deadline. CaliSoxFan and I were discussing earlier in the off season about how this was the year to get free agents since they had plenty of money to spend, the Sox 1st pick is protected and there were free agents available (Melky, Robertson, LaRoche, Duke) that could fill holes and that's exactly what the Sox did. Everything was in alignment for a big winter and I could not be happier with what Hahn and co have accomplished so far. Man, I cannot wait til ST! Go Sox! don't get me wrong, i am ecstatic with what they have done.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 07:54 PM) I feel like people talk about Minnie Minoso in a similar way. well that is another classy person. i am talking about some of the younger generation HOF retired players who doesn't do the necessary part. the PR, esp if they are still in the public eye.

i was looking for the Cuban catch all thread. so i am using this one. the one cuban player i have been waiting for is Jose Fernandez, now according the mlb trade rumors, he is being watch around the clock. dang. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) 2015 Prospect watch. Top 10 second baseman Micah johnson at #2 http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/2015/01/26/...-second-basemen really nice, i may have to relook at this skills set.

i really wish some of the retired sox players, esp those working with the sox org, can have that same kind of presence, even if they have to work at it.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 06:38 PM) Well is KW a superstar in the executive world? as i mention in another post, i will settle for one of the 15-16-18-19 ranked player in their system. with the main interest in Richard Urena
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) I wonder if that means this team is more Rick Hahn then Kenny Williams? i personally think that the job description and duties have change, with KW being #2 to the owners. i think Hahn is a subordinate to KW with a different job description.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 06:28 PM) Agreed with both statements. I really believe the Sox can win 85/86 games as is but if Noesi continues to improve and Danks can get closer to his old self, I think 88-90 wins is very obtainable barring major injuries. i really your yous guys enthusiasm in predicting the season. it really warms my heart in seeing this, i am totally afraid to fall flat on my face and jinks the team sox in 15.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Very simple. The payroll is pretty highly leveraged, as it is. no it is not, you are making a comparison to what, to what sox FO is claiming?? they can still make 1 more investment esp iif it is thru a trade. the money will be coming off the books next offseason. so you are saying 115 mil to what is considered high. the sox normal MO is to do this, to make the least amount of investment and bring in the fans and hope, this was done thru all the 90's and the same thing. the sox is depending on what they hope on plans and expectation to pan out. these are the teams that the sox will meet in the playoff esp if they get out of the AL. not if it is short term improvements. attrition.... so making adjustment in mid season and making it now..... it is the same thing, conceptually speaking. do it now, when the cost would be more during the season, esp in the pitching dept. so who cares what happens in 2017... the window of opportunity is now, Jose A 1 yr remove, Jeff S, sale and Q, let alone the players in the fa rt that the sox signed. deal with the future when it gets here Right now, you're essentially looking at a 25% chance this year, 50% in 2016-17 and then back down to 25% in 2018 unless you hit gold with Rodon, Anderson, Montas, Hawkins, Danish, Micah Johnson, etc. and another high first-rounder this June. the sox are hamstrung by not finishing off what started as a great offseason rebuild, b/c the owners do not want to spend anything more. to hope in all hope on prospects that hasn't produce for a full season in the majors let alone come playoff time. the money is there, the money earned from the licquer sales, the refreshments, the vendors rents, the parking lot money, the advertising promo nights, commercal advertising ets.... which the sox do not show on any books, but it is all done thru subsidiaries of different companies. btw pls do not take the bold as me screaming or anything. i wanted to let you see my responses easier.

Very little creativity, the only props used were dumb, the tricks were lame, half the time the guys never even completed a trick or even shot the puck. It was so embarrassing. The rest was pretty solid though. Weber going 108.5 MPH, holy s*** sticks are becoming insanely advanced. How about this breakaway goal from the KHL??? holy crap, that is the goal i been seeing all morning on sports channel at breakfast.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 02:49 PM) WRONG. Suppose we miss the playoffs because there are 3 other teams better than us. Suppose we miss the playoffs because a few key players have down seasons. If Abreu, Sale or Q are healthy but have a bad season, we could miss the playoffs. What happens if the 4th and 5th starters stink and Rodon isn't ready??? My point is that the team could have an overall mediocre year and we can miss the playoffs. I think we are right there and could challenge for a WC spot. But if one of the big 3 has an off season, then we could be outside looking in. let me see if i can really simplify my comment. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) if we miss the playoff and it isn't b/c of injury..... the blame lies solely on the shoulders of the FO for not finishing the offseason as they should have. worrying about fans paying first for the team to improve. ok, you mention of having a few key players going down ..... didn't i mention something like that in the first few words ???? finishing the offseason rebuild, depending on and solely on Rodn, #4-5 and prosoects in the minors. those minors may not be ready but who is to know esp if there is no pitchers to backup. so in essence not finishing up what they started. let take car this a little further, one of the top 3's does not produce as expected, and there is really no - one of that skills and experience, the sox do not have that backup, again, the FO not finishing what they started. so pls explain how i didn't fully explain this. ~~~ edit, pls also let me further point out, do you really think anyone on this site, will allow me to get away with what i posted... these guys are smart.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 03:00 PM) I downloaded and watched Birdman. It's very, very, very, very good. It's the type of movie 10 years ago that would never have worked, because the cgi wouldn't have seemed effortless and no one would've given it a chance. another movie you just gottsss to see is whiplasy. i never knew it was the kids from divergent, and he did his drumming himself.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) Of course, I would have said the same about Pan's Labyrinth, for example. As far as Birdman, it doesn't fly without Norton, Watts and Stone. Not sure this movie can get made with just Michael Keaton's name attached. i agree, i just can't see it without both, norton and keaton. its like batman without robin. but these two actors are great actors. the rest of the cast that added to the whole experience.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) If this team can get to 85 wins I'll be happy. I want to go to the playoffs obviously but we got to let it play out. If we miss the playoffs it'll be disappointing but not the end of the world. if we miss the playoff and it isn't b/c of injury..... the blame lies solely on the shoulders of the FO for not finishing the offseason as they should have. worrying about fans paying first for the team to improve.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 01:25 PM) Two "serious" reflections tonight. 1) Johnny Depp seriously needs a challenging role...and no, Into the Woods doesn't quite count as a starring turn. He's essentially become a parody of himself. 2) The Taken series isn't being taken seriously anymore. ref depp, yeah, i haven't seen anything that is challenging for him. but when he makes 30-40 mil per movie.... does he have too?
