QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) Coming from the guy that loves draft picks and prospects. yes b/c of the uncertainty and the growth that each prospects goes thru .... to make it to the majors. i love or would love a prospect journal to record their journey to record the aches and pains they have to go thru to make it, to achieve their dream. being a mlb full time player.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 03:30 PM) Wait, because a kid who was drafted less than a year ago, and is pitching at AA struggled in his first two starts, you don't believe the hype? To put it into perspective, Sale and Rodon are pretty much historical figures with how soon they not only made it to the majors, but how well they have performed since getting there. Even Fulmer being at AA is about two years ahead of what a normal top draft pick would be doing. Quitting on Fulmer is crazy talk. yes i do not believe in any hype, and i will stand by what i post. reason is, every player will respond differently to different situation. so if you think i have no faith in him, i never said that or implied it.
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) Going back to Pax talking last night. What a sleeze of an organization talking about the season after beating the 76ers on the last day of the year, Cubs, Sox, Hawks, Warriors, and Kobe all playing. Saying it's unacceptable how this season went, but we had so many injuries. Bulls are SO lucky the draft is here in 2 weeks, Sox and Cubs have gotten off to good starts, and the Hawks are in the playoffs. that was the insinuation i was hedging on, blaming the players or circumstance for the problem when the problem is in the FO. that other problem is not having the knowledge of seeing that the bulls needed to make other moves / trades.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) As part of our Prospect Perspectives series, Blake Hickman is our latest player-writer. But in his case, this will be a periodic journal of his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Here's his first entry. This should be fun to keep track of. Nice work by Quinarvy to rope in Blake for this. a really nice idea and write up. it shows how much he came to accept it and to work at getting better. people just assumes on the work after, but this is his story on how and what he has to go thru.
  5. QUOTE (VAfan @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 11:31 PM) As much as everyone wants to wail on Avisail, I think you have to take his slow start in context of how other players on the team are hitting. Garcia's OPS of .530 is actually AHEAD of Brett Lawrie .516 and Jimmy Rollins .505, and part time guys Navarro and Shuck, and he's not far behind Alex Avila. Only 2 hitters are excelling for the Sox -- Eaton and Abreu. EVERYONE ELSE is below where we would hope they will be on the season. while you do make a great point, the team could use some little tweaking... the problem is, the beginning of the season is not the right time, but all this, the FO should have known. this is a total lack of foresight. then again, maybe they were hoping for a reclamation project to step it up. either way, this is something they will need to think about come late may, early june.

    A nice Article

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) That is a really nice write-up and thanks for posting it LDF. Maybe I'm a Homer but I do think the offense will become more productive. I'm more concerned with the #4/#5 pitchers. he also gave great props on Q. i can't wait for the follow up on the hitters of this team. yesss.

ref fulmer, well, it will take a little bit longer than anticipated. that is why i never believe in the hype surrounding prospects.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) What a cowardly press conference. Holding it while Sox, Hawks and Cubs are all playing, saying a bunch of bulls*** that means absolutely nothing. They can all go now they could have said this b/s several days ago..... cmon, give the fans a lot more credit than assuming they are a bunch of illiterate people ... remember, they will need these people, the ones they think so low, to buy tickets next yr. for fvvcke sake. the owners can't get their heads out of their arse and see. i am wondering it they are implying that the players are at fault????
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 07:00 AM) Mashinter had no business playing in this game. Keith (who will be in) and Panik (who SHOULD be in) better be drawing Svedberg and Mashinter next game. Hell, I'd put in Weise for Desjardins as well. Weise is a much better playoff performer and Hawks need the offense. totally agree. this is not the time to be experimenting .
  10. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 02:49 AM) GARPAX press conference summed up: EVERYONE IS ACCOUNTABLE except us. we aren't going anywhere RUH ROH: On being committed to Butler, Gar: “We have to explore all options. I don’t think anything’s off the table with the year we’ve had." that is one big crock of shiite. how can the main antagonist of this whole thing goes unscathed. this to total bulls***. the only way they, the owners will do anything if they loose money...
  11. well CBS sports did a nice article. i am sure we will see more of this kind of press. it is sure nice to see the positive side of baseball>>> winning. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseba...e-to-be-special
  12. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 06:36 PM) How many more "proven veterans" will be the obvious solutions? Kenny Williams has tried this approach. And it fails repeatedly. And Cargo, as do most Kenny Williams targets, have massive, glaring warning flags all around them. with the system being what it has been for how long?? the most obvious answer is to get those fa's or trade for that proven player to help this core. this core is really good, adding to it will only strengthen the club.
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 08:58 PM) Groupthink in midseason form, I see. The Sox have had a solid payroll for years. 3 playoff appearances in 15 years with that payroll and after inheriting a division winning team with a top farm is pretty poor performance. JR isn't cheap...he's just ridiculously tolerant of non-performing employees. The good news is that the farm system is churning out some good players. The bad news is that the braintrust doesn't seem compelled to take advantage of it. well, at this time, most are not ready to performed ... unless you are referring to use as a trade pkg. with that said, i am wondering if hahn did try, how much are the other teams asking for a trade.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 09:11 PM) Love that Lassiter and Coats, two guys I was higher on than most, are both starting off hot. They are similar in some ways - outfielders taken late in the draft after issues in college (knee blow-out for Coats, personal issues for Lassiter). Both guys that normally would have gone much higher in the draft. Neither with any super-loud tools, but both with a number of good to very good tools. Those guys tend to fly under the radar. i too like coats and i really thought he might have stick. ref to lassiter, i never followed him and still have not. i am going to enjoy about his success this yr. esp with what he is showing and your opinion being stated.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 07:10 PM) Technically, Phil did everything in his power to make players think for themselves as well. Trestman was awful and did a lot of bad things. Hoiberg might be that guy and there are similarities, but in the case of Marc, he screwed it up despite coming into a system where the players hadn't been empowered by management. Trestman replaced Lovie, but it wasn't as if the front office told the players a year before to ignore Lovie's message cause he's gone anyway and thus you immediately set a very very poor message that would be difficult for any new coach to enter. Honestly, the situation Gar created by doing that, created a situation where, in my opinion, only the best and most powerful established coaches could succeed. Bringing in a rookie NBA coach into that mess was a recipe for failure (even if Hoiberg was the second coming of Phil or Red Auerbach). And this is coming from someone who has bashed Hoiberg excessively, the Bulls certainly didn't hand him any favors by neutering Thibbodeau the year before. Only way this changes now is by either players changing there ways as a result of the sting of missing the playoffs (plus some various roster moves to help change the culture and bring in new players who know Butler as nothing but the current star that he is and only know, in a Bull uniform, Hoiberg's ways). I do think the finally absolutely failing when having full freedom and laissez faire might help set a bit of the tone. My guess is the leaders next year will be Noah & Butler and I would hope the two of them would work together. Taj might stick around but I do really believe that Rose is gone. this is a great post and analyzes of the whole mess.
  16. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 03:11 PM) His dream team is 9 mediocre prospects who had middling minor league numbers. Then he gives them each 5000 PA because a handful of players across the league in the past 10 years have had random, unforeseen breakouts so that will surely happen with these guys, if you only give them enough time. harsh.... but i was going to say something like that on the reclamation projects that the sox are will continue to do, b/c they will not spend for those last pieces.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) The White Sox are in 1st place. I also don't believe that they'll remain in 1st place with one of the 5 worst players in baseball as the primary DH. I think they know this though. Travis Ishikawa is bad. Garcia is too though and having Sands and Garcia on the roster is pointless. Sands should receive at-bats vs LHP but that's also the only time that Garcia should play. David Murphy is available and looking for work and would be a better bench option than Sands, Garcia, or Shuck. I think Garcia will get replaced because they tried to replace him all offseason. as i started off yesterday, i agree with what you are saying. i am hoping that the FO can do something. but no matter what, the owners makes the final judgement on any moves. so i just hope hahn can convince the owners to do that move. even if it getting david murph. there is no way the sox will swing to make a major move, now, that was in the off season. but any improvements now will help, instead of what the sox have now. but i have to keep remindiing myself, it is only april.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) I agree and am all for building the farm and would love to have Vogelbach in the system for 2017 and beyond. I was just responding to the idea of trading for Vogelbach to fill the 1B/DH void this year, which he is not ready for. The Sox need to look elsewhere for that solution. no offense, but i never thought of what you said as an end all kind of move for this yr. plus, i think you are smart enuf to realize that. i am in agreement of continuing to make little moves to help this yr, while making major move for all those next yrs.... what i am seeing with the sox org is exciting with an exciting future.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) Sox dispatched several young players over the last two years, who are far outperforming the proven veterans they were traded for. I see no reason to trade for prospects from another organization, when the Sox can't properly evaluate their own. They aren't very good at evaluating the veterans either. The best choice is to just keep calling players up and see who sticks, recognizing that the evaluators judged a .900 OPS from a young player as fourth outfielder quality. That said, the team will contend if the bullpen holds up. They are relying on four guys and that eventually will have to be broadened for the pitching to be good enough. also, ref the bold, while that was true in the past, i like what i am seeing in the FO now. will they be 100% successful in all their moves, no. the only reason it show more now, b/c the system is in such a state, that everything gets magnified.
  20. They are relying on four guys and that eventually will have to be broadened for the pitching to be good enough. with your example, i will not debate. all i am saying, there will come a time, when the sox are in a solid position, to go all in. pay the cost, to put this team there. what i am also saying is do not over pay as well. the easiest cost to do is the money..... for most owners, they will spend that... but i tend to forget that we are talking about this owners group.
  21. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) Nope, not ready yet. Vogelbach just began his first season in AAA and his power has yet to come around. He needs more development time. I'd certainly like to have him in the Sox organization but he wouldn't be able to fill an immediate need. For those interested... http://www.baseball-reference.com/register...id=vogelb000dan while you do make a great point, getting someone for this season, well it is not going to happen. i think the sox should do what they can to invest in a young talent, like him, for next season and on. they need to really think of fixing those next seasons, while at the same time, doing minor little tweaks to continue strengthening the main core. i just hope they think there job is done and will not do anything, in otherwords, just going thru to the motions and reap the rewards of the success, this team, this yr, and the success it will or may bring in. constantly improving the system, with major moves in the beginning, paying what is necessary in the front end, will pay much more dividends in the backend. that is the essential elements of successful org.
  22. QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 12:10 PM) When did Frank start hitting with the Charlie Lau style of swing? He didn't have it at the beginning of his Sox career did he? he was a very good hitter, period. i remember the hype surrounding him in the minors was exciting. when he came up, anyone can tell he was going to be very good. i also remember the down side of what to do with him b/c of his defense. i like to believe that CL just made his better and consistent, for the long haul.

well i finally relented and saw the bat v superman. to tell you the truth, i like it. Ben Affleck as the bat, well he did a good job. i like the new alfred was better. the story was very good. well i think i am sold for the next one.
  24. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 09:41 PM) No mention of the fact that he threw a no hitter and his name is Jason Groome? C'mon Badler. Keith Law's list had Sox fan favorites in the following order #3 Corey Ray, #7 Kyle Lewis and #10 Nick Senzel. i do not know, i been following the mock drafts and it is really all scramble up. mostly b/c outside the top 2 or 3 prospects, this yr performances are really weak. it is going to be really interesting and well for me, will they over draft a player to save money or what.
  25. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 06:28 PM) Probably because the .1 WAR you might get from Ishikawi over Avi against RHP really isn't worth giving Avi 200 more PA to either close the book on him or to see something in him worth keeping. It's not like Ishikawi is some righty masher, he's marginally better at best. based on your train of thought, i agree. but i am willing to see what avi does in april.
