  1. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) Little things like signing MG is not going to bring in the casual fans. They have no idea who he is and most likely don't care. They just want to see the team win. Die-hard fans like us who might be able to actually pick the guy out of a lineup aren't going to buy tickets because of this signing either. this is the crux of my point of view. the casual fans will need incentive, that is done with winning and having a great media attention and something to promote. yes, promote the idea of the sox sitting on their hands and not doing anything else, no scouring the teams to continue to give the appearance of continuing fixing the team.... the word is appearance edit ... i gots to go, will be back. great debate guys,
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 04:08 PM) They just need to win baseball games. They'll never be more popular than the Cubs. If they win baseball games, they'll get covered. ahhh this is where i can agree,,,,, winning does chg everything. as long as the owners group would be willing to pony up. now back to the MG debate. of a reclamation and dumpster diving....
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 04:05 PM) The Cubs and White Sox are not rivals. They don't matter. This is old, bad thinking. What the Royals, Twins, Indians, and Tigers do is what matters. come on, you can't be that narrow minded and still pretend that is not the case. the sox have competition within chi for fans, media attention.
  4. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) Yes I do. White Sox fans don't go to baseball games. There are many reasons. We are a bunch of fickle excuse makers. If Cespedes were in RF, it wouldn't really affect attendance at all unless they were winning consistently. if if if.... that is a ready built in excuse. ..
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 04:01 PM) What the Cubs do doesn't matter. This is a bad post. no it has everything to do with it, the sox competition is the northsiders and the media and hype that they bring in. the sox are in constant competition with that hype. that is why they needed to do what they did, b/c there is another baseball product that is sharing chi media.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) If the Sox had a marquee RF, people still wouldn't go. and how can you judge that ..... thru some sort of premonition??? again, this team was added to, to improve the overall product on the field. do you think so little of fans that they can not see that???
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) This is absolutely not true. They love bringing in reclamation projects, and do it on a very regular basis. and why would someone bring in a reclamation project, ..... to save $$$ if successful. right now, the sox have 115 mil at the season opener for 2016 season. also to make another point, the sox have assembled a great team for 115 with a possibility of 2 weak points in the starting rotation and lineup. now trying to give the appearance of the sox continuing to improve to give that impression. the sox 2016 team is almost as good as the northside. the northside team is starting the season with 166 mil invested. now all the sox have to due is win, get on a hot streak and have a kickarse media dept to promote the hell out of this team, the smart way. saving money on the front end will really improve the profit margin.... again as i have said.
  8. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 03:18 PM) Exactly this. that was the sox never have done this kind of fixing the team and surprisingly at a minimum cost on the front side.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) Miguel Gonzalez isn't selling any tickets. You can see Chris Sale pitch for $10 and there are still less than 20K in the house. Sox fans aren't going to games. you are not looking at the big picture, you are thinking figuratively and not in the general terms. if the sox wanted to sell more tickets, then they would have gotten a marque player, whether that be a sp or not. but to give the appearance that the sox care about winning and making the fans happy, they do the little things to tweak the team, like signing MG ...... while at the same time keeping looking at the profit margin.....
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) I don't think the appearance has anything to do with it. He doesn't really fit though. and that is a nice theory, if only the sox FO would have thought of the same, but they were among the 5 teams that are pursuing him. as DA mention, maybe it would be for the minors team. however i doubt it. ref to appearance, the sox have to continue to sell this team to the fans and have tickets to sell.
  11. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/three-ways-...iguel-gonzalez/ I don't really get the appeal. I'd rather roll with Latos and Danks unless Gonzalez is going to AAA $$$ and the appearance of the sox still trying to improve the ballclub.
  12. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) That and the uniform budget would increase dramatically. "Okay, JR, we can get a uniform for Panda, but either we increase the budget or Sale, Eaton, Jackson, and Rollins aren't getting jerseys." coming from the fat men of the world, which in a way i am kinda, this was extremely funny. BS13, try to beat that one.
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 04:15 AM) Looking at Sandoval's belly leads me to believe he's about to give birth to a teenage mutant ninja turtle. most excellent way to end a nite... with a great laugh.
  14. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 04:00 AM) If they could acquire him for a low A player with the White Sox paying 4-5 million per year for his services, I would actually be interested. Even with everything going on, it wouldn't be a franchise changing killer contract. *Hot Take over well this is on me and me being, well greedy, foolish, stupid, but i would want, beside a sweetener of money for the salary, but a prospect added..... i know they are giving him to the sox for 4-5 mip per.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 03:33 AM) If the White Sox were ever going to take a chance on a TJS pitcher, this would be the year to do so with the extra pick at 26. If you can get a 1-1 player at 26, and lose a year of development, you can afford to because you have picks on both sides of it. i totally agree on the strategy of what you are suggesting. but here is a guy who many thought would be or can be a #1 pick. just like hoffman several yrs ago, he may not last till #26. a great post. i was going to suggest something like this on sunday, just to get people minds going. but here we go, like said, i don't know if he would be there at #26, would you think of going #10 ???? now here is the wild card, look at Jace Fry of the white sox. he blew out his elbow, his pitching elbow twice. that is the chance and here is the gamble. again great post.
  16. Help is needed. anyone using Linux right now, on a personal computer and in a work enviro. which desktop are you using Gnome or Plasma??? is there any better???
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 01:38 AM) His contract is signed, he has four more years of no weight clause. There is no reason for him to just give them a reason to withhold money thanks for the update.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 12:19 AM) I think we have to consider the fact that Boston has benched him in favor of an okay-hitting first baseman who may not even be able to field the position as evidence that Sandoval hasn't shown a lot of "bounceback promise," and there's no reason to believe a weight clause will work here when it hasn't worked anywhere else he's been. if i understand, if there was a weight clause, then bos can enforce by what ever the language of the contract says. whether it is no money or reduce salary. what is really needed is a hard weight clause, either you meet a certain weight or no money.
  19. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 10:19 PM) God that phrase is so stupid and way overused on this site. How is trying to find a reasonably priced DH "hero worshiping"? If he hits like he did in 2014 he's still worth $6-8M/year on the open market easily, if not more. 1 bad year doesn't make the guy done forever. He does have an .848 OPS this spring and steamer has him projected at .281/.332/.441....it's no doubt a gamble, but if we could get him at below market value and implement a weight clause I don't see how it's such a crazy idea. i agree with the bold ref #1. ref to the other bold, i hate to bring this up, but panda is signed to a contract and no one can add an amendment to an existing contract unless the players agrees to it. so can you see panda agreeing to a weight clause??
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 07:12 PM) Don't you just love the last few days before the opening game???!!! this is the best i have felt about any sox team since the 90's. i can't freaking wait.
  21. from klaw chat on 3-17-16 http://meadowparty.com/blog/2016/03/17/klawchat-31716/ i see this and am interpreting this as he has an injury concerning his elbow.... any extra info???
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 08:32 PM) I wonder if that site forgets about Tim Anderson. to be honest, i really don't like that site. however, i thought my personal feelings aside, it will be up to others to decide if they like that site or not. but maybe this is me, no collins in the first rnd and the sox picking a prep who is not even a pitcher. nah, i have problems with this one.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 08:50 PM) Absolutely I'm behind this. We talk about LH hitting but deep down we all know Ventura loves Shuck, and he'll likely matter as a result. I'll say this: Shuck would improve us defensively if he can push Melky to DH some. The bigger need is starting pitching. in a not farfetched scenario we may have TWO starter voids and that is terrifying. In MG we could get a guy that is just-alright. He'd be better than Carroll. Erik Johnson is AAAA material right now. Beck is there but a win-now team cant be relying on that. i agree, the sox do need a sp and i am sure the FO realizes this as well. the thing is, MG may be the best of who is out there at this time. the sox will be hard press to make a trade, so this is dumpster diving and i agree, they need to do this now, at this time.
  24. a new updated mock draft. http://www.mymlbdraft.com/2016-draft/mock-draft/
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 06:51 PM) I'm not defending Young but I'd be pissed if someone secretly recorded a conversation I had with them on anything. Completely pissed. To do it in the lockeroom and than have it leaked is even worse. In no way am I defending Young. Cheating scumbag and he'll get what he's deserved but Russell f***ed up royally too and should never have secretly recorded a conversation between two people in the lockeroom. That violates all code of the lockeroom. I can only imagine how everyone would be ripping LaRoche or Eaton if he had done something similar. I was watching an NFL show yesterday and every single player (black, white, defense, oline, etc)...this included hall of famer Jerome Bettis (plus Jeff Saturday and a few others) and they all absolutely ripped Russel and said if that happened in there lockeroom, things would have been much worse than the Lakers shunning him, but beyond that, you would never ever trust the player again (and that isn't just on the Lakers, no player will have that trust because it has been violated). crap, nhl and nfl players will really get into a brawl over this. look at a story that came out several yrs ago on the retired bears center, the big, short tempered hawaiian, he punch a teammate while in line for something, b/c of a joke. nah, things would be different in other sports.
