  1. well i know i never wanted panda and i even mention that with the big contract, he will out eat his contract. however with that said, i will not say never..... but if bos pays a crap load of his contract and offer a handfull of their key prospects. it might be a beginning. if not, there are other options, how desperate are they to move him???
  2. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) Is Russell even that good? I know he is young and has lots of potential, but Butler is an already established star. I would trade anyone on the team besides Jimmy for him. but if the bulls will rebuild, the bulls will need to make some hard trades, even fan fav's to get players and picks who are young and talented.
  3. QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) Side note: For someone that has more college viewership under their belt than I, how does Collins game compare to AJ Reed? They seem likely pretty similar players, with Collins maybe having a slightly better eye. That could be a real nice bat to infuse into the system. i really don't know if you meant this post to anyone, so i will take a stab at this. aj reed is limited, b/c of his lack of defensive ability to 1b and only 1b. his hitting tools are still extremely enticing with power predicted to come later. however he still need to develop more seeing higher comp in pitching. collins, i am assuming you are meaning zach collins. collins is a cat / 1b. however the pro's are predicting that any team who select him will let him develop at 1b. so he can fully concertate on his hitting development. nice sweet swing, per videos. the only way to judge is videos and the pro scouts / mock draft. this draft is nice with some really interesting prospect making a name for them selves,. the main fav's, are coming out of the gate slowly. i would love the sox to pick him in the comp rnd maybe the 3rd selection avail.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 03:09 PM) While I am not a big James Loney fan, he is better at baseball than Travis Ishikawa. I'd rather have David Murphy than either, but its not very hard to upgrade on Ishikawa. If Travis breaks camp with the club, I anticipate it won't be long until some other LH bat finds their way to the Sox. If the Sox could get Loney for less than $1.5M, it may be worth the minimal risk. I'd shoot for closer to the minimum. Travis Snider is another idea. No great shakes, but a LH option for the bench. I have to imagine the Sox have been in contact with David Murphy. while loney is not the most enticing candidate, at this time. but considering who is available, esp at the cost the sox will be willing to pay, i think loney will be the right choice.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 01:18 PM) Why in the world would the Sox take a high school pitcher tenth overall? at this stage, i agree with you. i don't see a hs'er in the first, maybe one in the comp pick. but i can see a hs'er in the starting to be considered in the 2nd round and later.
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 11:43 PM) Agreed about the pitching staff. I guess they could have alot of B games but the owners wouldn't make money on those. So as long as the pitchers need to pitch they may as well sell tivkets. and that is the sensible answer which is all true.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 06:06 AM) Like it or not it should be obvious the Sox are going to give Avi another chance. Sometimes it's better to give our own hot garbage another chance instead of trying another teams hots garbage. As badly as I wanted to see Avi replaced or traded this winter, I'd still rather see him get another chance over acquiring Loney. i agree, the org has a tendency to holding on to players that should have been traded. they, the sox Fo should spare us, the fans of the risk, given time, is this another DV? whether we like it or not, Avi will be the sox starting dh spare of'er. Loney, i do like the left hand hitting player who still can put up some really good stats. he would be a nice option, i hope if he can platoon with Avi. however will the sox FO do it??? here is the question, can loney be a better option than anyone the sox have on the roster at this time???
  8. i have been under the wrong impression of trading and the trading of certain type of draft pick. the compensation draft is a draft pick that can not be traded. however the competitive draft pick A and B can be traded. that is per cba which i found on milb web site this afternoon. so i was wrong in my past ideas, i just saw the chance of getting and rebuilding the org was to enticing. so with that, i am still liking the idea of getting shields, if the padres can sweeten the deal to make the trade possible. again i was wrong.
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) Right, I said the other day it's a very good thing that instead of floundering with the Leury Garcias and Adrian Nietos of the world they actually have some guys that probably deserve a 25 man spot but because of decent MLB depth have been pushed down to AAA for the moment. I feel a helluva lot better about an injury or two with Saladino and Sanchez ready to step in. dang, i never thought of that. nice.
  10. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 05:39 PM) BAseball America's first mock: http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/16554...he1a5lIXDU32.97 i will say this, for these people who make these mock draft, i give them a lot of credit for not letting their feelings of favoring their team. i would never be able to make a mock draft. with that said, the #10 th pick for the sox.... ahhhh no. i don't think so,
  11. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 06:04 PM) This team may need to trade for a starter at some point. Hope Latos stays healthy and gets it going. well i would not suggest that many on this site have been saying this. but i really like the idea of really rolling the dice here. only of the upper management will agree to it. idea. teams that need to dump salary. perfect scope of other teams doing just this. so i am looking at the marlins of the late 90's when they got and assembled the right group to win the Ws. teams trying to do that now. ARZ, La Dodgers. why not the chi sox.... team Padres, and they would love to dump salary and have discuss options. J. Shields. would look nice and really help..... in many ways. going to coming to the sox shields and their 3 comp picks. going to the padres - hakins, danish, lowry and hell even trey. now why should they, padres want to do this, help in prospects coming in, loosing salary money and the team salary will be at 68-70 mil.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 05:14 PM) It doesn't matter if the Lakers have the cap space. The cap is going up almost Rose's salary. Kobe is coming off their books. I would imagine LA will have a lot of space this summer. you know i would really love to have the draft pick of the 2016 both the 1 and 2 round, if it is not #1 overall pick. rose plus a spare player.
  13. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 05:03 PM) I'm not suggesting the FO or Hoiberg are without fault here. I just think it's too early to call Hoiberg a bust. He was given a bad roster, he was given a roster ready to implode on itself (Gasol sulking, Butler/Rose not being able to play together given Butler's rise to fame, Noah accepting he's terrible on offense and not the player he was 2-3 seasons prior, etc), and he had to deal with a lot of injuries. Not a recipe for success, even for a good coach. pls don't take what i am or have been suggesting as in indictment on Fred H or whether he will be a good coach in the nba. what i am saying or hinting at is, the bulls FO did no favors for him. he may not have been ready to assume the mantles of an nba coach, a properly prepared candidate. yeah Fred H is doing rookies mistakes, but this team did not need that kind of a coach. maybe blowing up the team except for the younger impressionable players and build around this core. with frad h at the helm. let the team learn together.
  14. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) I agree. I was talking about from the fan's perspective, but you're right. There is always a group of players (for the most part a big chunk of that 25 man roster) that have guaranteed spots. So, in reality, a team has 2-5 spots that are "up for grabs", and there are a bunch of players fighting for those spots. Obviously there are plenty of guys who are invited to spring training who have no chance to make the 25-man, but they're invited to get some experience and allow the coaches to check them out...for the future. It's those guys like Sanchez and Davidson (this year at least) that now have an opportunity to go back to AAA where they'll play every day, and they'll either continue to do well or it will be obvious that their spring training numbers were a fluke. this was a great discussion, i truly enjoyed it. thanks
  15. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 04:53 PM) They were like 12 games over .500 when Noah hurt his shoulder in mid-Jan, beating a slew of championship contenders in the process. They kept losing to s***ty teams, otherwise that record would have been even better. Even with Noah's injury, the eventual downfall to what we have now wasn't even on the radar. That move may have started the tenure of Hoiberg off on a weird way, but it didn't affect the Bulls play. Injuries, lack of desire, crappy defense (and offense), shoddy rotations, etc. did them in. i really do not totally agree.... we are talking about pro coaches and they should have been able to over come the obstacles you mention. a great coach would have, a inexperience or lousy coach would not have been able too. hence the cliche of "being over his head not able to recognize and overcome the obvious." well the players knows this as well and they will judge the coach as everyone else would. the FO did not help, esp in getting a better asst coaches who can help.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) It started a cascade, it is up there with a bunch of tremendously bad decisions. Like it or not Noah has been viewed as a leader on this team for years, and Hoiberg cut his nuts off in front of the team, and all season there has been zero leadership visible. But hey, Niko started. Awesome move Fred, lost team unity and leadership in favor of starting a guy who clearly was not ready excellent post.
  17. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 03:18 PM) I think that was all overblown. Noah didn't deny having the talk, he just didn't want it to seem like he had offered to play a lesser role, which is what Hoiberg said. In that talk he knew that he was coming off the bench. He didn't learn that through the media. Still, again, that's a non-issue when it comes to evaluating what went wrong with this team. A professional like Noah could (and really, did) brush that off as a rookie-coach mistake. no offense.... if you look at opinions thru the ages, let alone within sports and the chi bulls, all msg are overblown, to the other person. it is all based on a perspective of that person and what that person wants to put out there..... good theater.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 04:00 PM) Can't look too much into ST stats, good or bad. Davidson really should be at Charlotte since there's currently no starting role for him with the Sox and sitting him on the bench would be stupid. Things happen throughout the course of the season so its possible Davidson gets a shot at some point so its up to him to be ready. Sanchez is the guy I really feel for. Before the Lawrie/Frazier trades, I was hoping to see Sanchez get another shot as the starting 2B but the Sox understandably made those trades to boost the offense from their infield. I believe Sanchez will be an everyday 2B but for now there's just no room so Charlotte is the right call. Sanchez being just 23 years old makes it easier to accept. I think there is a very positive aspect being overlooked in these demotions. Davidson, Anderson and Sanchez all have the potential to become Sox infielders in the near future and they will be playing together everyday at Charlotte. Should the three of them ever become starters for the Sox, they will already have a rhythm developed between them on the field and know what each other is capable of on the diamond. Now, add little Jacob May to that mix of talent and thats four young players that are worth getting a little excited about, to some degree or another. Charlotte should be alot of fun to follow this year. a great descriptive outlook ....
  19. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 03:59 PM) Well, the numbers matter if they're good (like this year), but they don't matter if they aren't good. It's just spring training, we say. I'm being somewhat sarcastic, because I think (hope) that we all realize that spring training numbers don't necessarily translate to real life. However, it is nice to see the HRs and the improvement in some of the guys we're going to need to step up. We'll see how everything goes once they start playing in 45-50 degree weather and swirling winds. ahh you have 2 different scenario's here. i will deal the the obvious. st gives hope for those who want to impress the coaches and managers, esp those in the major league team. now, they, the prospects will need to take that success and build on it, show they are capable of maintaining the good part of st and can last in the long haul. while the experience will need that time to wipe the rust off and get the timing down.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) I really have no idea if Hoiberg will be a good coach. He was totally set up to fail this year. They gave him the same injury plagued roster that has failed in the past. Spun it as the reason they haven't won was because of the coach. Started with Dunleavy sidelined with back surgery, like he would be absolutely fine in a week or two. The GarPax team needs to be split up. At least one has to go. Someone else needs to look at these guys. The Bulls have fallen in love with their good, just not good enough to win players for years. They need an outsider to stop this. Is Jimmy Butler or Derrick Rose, even if he's 100%, really the best player on a championship team? i have a tendency to agree with the bold. but the one thing i notice, first with the sox and kw, and now with the bulls and gar, the owners are in love with the Fo people who can kiss major booty.... maybe they perfected it with some experience tongue action and feathers.
  21. i then to think that the Lawrie was really not necessary, not with C. Sanchez in the fold. but in hindsight, getting lawrie, add more leadership quality kind of a player, adding to the current assorted leadership quality players. this kind of persona provide a professional attitude and how to get in a game mind-set that all true older players present.
  22. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 03:14 PM) f*** and no. Noah has been/was so incredibly dreadful on the offensive end. He couldn't shoot. He couldn't get put backs. He couldn't shoot FT's. You brought in a guy to change up the offense and score points. Playing Noah and Gasol together wasn't going to achieve that goal. I backed Hoiberg on that decision 100% and I still do. Noah could have been an anchor on the defensive unit that played down the stretch when the Bulls had a solid lead. That would have been perfect. Expecting him to play the 4 with Gasol and actually contribute anything meaningful was a pipe dream. Of all the things to complain about with the front office and Hoiberg, this issue is not on the list. while i will respect your opinion, i am just posting what sports writers are talking about. the other thing, no-one except some fans are defending the bulls FO and / or Fred H. if there was a huge outcry, then i may chg my opinion. however any lack of an encouraging tweet, there is really not a over whelming support.

  24. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) I don't mind that it's a scumbag move, I mind how stupid it is considering the timing and this team's weaknesses. if i remember a move chris did while in a playoff game against sltl behind the hawk net, he was angry with this one player who was being, for lack of a better description, playing a chippy game. well the guy was skating towards him, he cross check him in the mouth and knock out some teeth. same thing he did while playing for team usa.
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) Scumbag play by Keith, there. then can i ask this question, what is your opinion of Chris Chelios, b/c he did worst....
