  1. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 05:36 AM) LaRoche, in addition to being a rather lousy ball player in the twilight of his career, was obviously a very selfish one as well. The idea that he somehow presumed all of his 24 co-workers wanted his brat around every day to the extent Drake was is ludicrous. I don't care what handshake agreement he may or may not have had with management. How about taking into consideration the impact his kid's non-stop presence had on his teammates - the same teammates he just quit on, I might add. LaRoche was only thinking about what was good for LaRoche, and now he is free to do so to his heart's content while not stinking up White Sox baseball in the process. Good riddance. great post and i agree. this is a problem with AL and management and their legal teams if necessary. the action and reaction of sale and eaton is what compounded the situation to where it is now. the laughing stock of the sports world. if no one thinks that, open your eye and mind. this situation is a ridiculous set of events that was put in motion. sale and eation action did not or does not justify this media attentions.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 04:04 AM) Maybe LaRoche retiring gives Garcia the DH, where his defensive value is a moot point. i have always said that Avi best defensive position is at dh.
  3. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 04:37 AM) Why exactly? Because a handful of players said they didn't see any issues? VIrtually every media source in Chicago, and most outside of it, are reporting the same thing. Kenny botched the handling of it, but there is no way asking Laroche to dial it back was unreasonable. for me, i am looking at this in a different light, so to speak. the key is that 2nd or 3rd mtg kw had with AL. when kw flipped out. that language that AL used to make kw so incensed that he would flipped and to tell him that AL son does not have any access, or what ever was said. now the other part is how kw reacted in telling the clubhouse and how he again, flipped. me thinketh it, that kw is not good in confrontation. but the bottom line, the blame for me still falls on the players sale and eaton.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 10:09 PM) No one is going to admit that they did to the media. Btw, David Schuster on the Score said today he talked to people he know who work for the Sox and said there were complaints. to me, it doesn't matter if there was other complaints or not, this was totally a few players who were not involve in the beginning making themselves become involve. but ref the bold, they work and get their paycheck from the sox org. i will take that with a grain of salt.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 10:00 PM) As soon as you do that, in LaRoche's mind, you're creating a "hostile working environment" or breaking the verbal contract...in the end, the way things played out, he probably would have refused to go to the meeting...or said the only meetings he's going to are those called by Ventura/Hahn, since those two supposedly had no problems with LaRoche and Drake. So then you're back to square 1 or the only resolution is coming from Reinsdorf and that's still going to lead to the same set of problems. We're expecting KW to change his spots here, and he's consistently been the same person ever since assuming the GM role roughly 15 years ago. LaRoche should have known that ignoring KW was going to lead to an even bigger confrontation eventually. a refusal to attend a mtg that is called by the sox org, regardless if you like that person or not, and is the highest ranking official outside the owner, then is it called insubordination. any others who jumped in was and is doing so for their own agenda. this is spelled out, it is black and white. he either complies or he doesn't. sale and eaton has jumped in, in a problem that does not involve them or it does involve them. then they recourse was to allow this to go thru the proper channel via the legal rep, the union reps.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 06:33 PM) Only if he un-retires. There may be a small portion of it that they'd have to pay to cover the time he was present in ST, not sure exactly how those are structured, whether there is money included for ST or just for the 162 game season. While retired he receives no payment for the time he's gone. Were he to un-retire the White Sox would be on the hook for that deal again and he would be required to show up and meet his part of the contract - should he try to unretire while not showing up or something like that the White Sox could fine him for his absences and failure to meet his contract. if he AL files the necessary paperwork, and it is distributed to the proper chain of command, including the union. now comes the other side. if the sox accept it, with a proper legal procedure, including and not withstanding a legal response of acceptance and if they add any legal indemnity clause the will waive any loss of of anything including salary or termination of existing contract. that is the best i can remember.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 07:07 PM) I have a difficult believing KW just decided out of the clear blue to scale back Drake's presence in the club house and on the field without something being said to him first. Eaton is one to talk about KW " throwing it out there". He's been throwing plenty of stuff "out there" on Twitter. He's parading Twitter like a politician trolling for votes. Good to see Eaton and his big mouth are so focused on the upcoming season. nice. i like that.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 09:13 PM) Still waiting for someone to explain exactly what KW should have done differently after being directly disobeyed by an employee on at least two occasions? Told the kid he needs to stay in Ventura or Hahn's offices? Asked to go to mediation or arbitration with LaRoche over the original scope of the verbal agreement made with Hahn/Ventura? In any real workplace in the world where employees aren't making millions of dollars, LaRoche would have been fired for insubordination...probably lawyered up and sued...but, the end result would have been the same. waited for practice to be over, appch AL or have AL come to the office and be calm and explain your self, maybe have a legal rep from the sox org in there with kw to present the sox org side of the problem then do not else.
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 03:11 PM) Sure thing Willie. After all, bringing your daughter to work at a family run business is the same as bringing your daughter to work where theres a clubhouse full of men. Yeah, uh huh. What an idiot. esp when there are running around naked and taking showers.
  10. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) So yes this whole thing is a mess but let's not forget the upside. We got an expensive overpriced albatross of a bad hitter off of our roster and can move forward. Eventually the dust will settle and we are a better team without LaRoche on it. If I thought Williams was smart enough, I'd give him credit for pulling off such a well executed evil plan. a move that would make machiavelli proud. now lets see if the sox FO will do something with that savings or just keep it for the owners bank acct on the profit side ....
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) It is 'merica. People, for the most part, are free to say what they chose. exactly and in most cases i agree.... see that has been my defense on some of my rants with certain people on this site. there is and i am more than positive on it, on all working agreement, that said person does have the freedom until it crosses over to reflecting a negative image on the company, for the company or directly refer to that company. as i said the sox org should have done a complete silence on this and all media questions whether it is innocent or not. it takes 2 to tango
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) It depends on the drill. They made it seem like he was on the mound and balls were flying all around him, but maybe it was a base running drill and just seeing him pissed KW off. It is obvious that safety and liability weren't the issue or they would have pulled him off the field totally, not just asked that he "dial it back" because even doing that, the issue remains. but does that justify sale and eaton doing their thing ???? i am done with this main point of the debate, unless there is something else outside this excuse.
  13. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) 100% agree with this. And didnt JR tell EVERYONE to zip it? What the hell is Eaton doing continuing to blab to the media? Player rep or not, the friggin owner told you to STFU. then eaton is obligated to hand this off to the main pr-team that the union employs.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 02:49 PM) If he didn't get approval to be on after yesterday, he should be suspended for saying this. and if this is a union rep talking, what happen to the privacy act of 1972 that ensures that anything dealing with management has the privacy act to protect both parties. i will repeat myself, where is AL legal team doing nothing..... b/c eaton and sale by default are using this for their own agenda.
  15. QUOTE (Saufley @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) Oh by the way, I'm done with this issue. We seem to be going in circles. On to baseball talk. i know, i am missing all the rpt of which players are doing great which are stinking it up, the pitchers performing and not.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) He is probably saying that for the kids benefit. There is a lot of crap flying but I think people are realizing a 14 year old kid is unfairly in the middle of this, and is in a can't win situation. He knows at least someone is bothered by him with the White Sox. He knows his dad quit his job, something he loved because of it. Take these little things that Eaton and Sale are throwing out there for what they are. Something the kid will eventually see and appreciate. and those to blame are name sale and eaton and AL for letting it happen instead of dialing it back
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) "We lost a leader in Drake LaRoche " -Adam Eaton on the Score What a joke. I don't even want to root for these guys anymore. Drake is at home with his Dad. Eaton makes it sound like he died from cancer all this stuff, stemming from last yr of stirring the drink to the social media bs says it all to me, he is a megalomaniac who needs to be in the constant limelight. comon, right after a club house situation, he is tweeting???
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) Nope, I'm the one who brought it up...because it's too obvious. (And I say this from two seasons of working around a minor league baseball team every single day for 140+ games...there's always that clubhouse split between white players, Hispanic players and a few African-American players, especially the Hispanic players staying to themselves, with rare exceptions guys like Juan Uribe or Sandy Alomar that were the bridges between the two groups). We have a profile, as someone said. White, Christian (born again, most often), anti-gay (for the most part), like to go hunting and fishing, listen to country music, heck, it's the profile of NASCAR too, haha. That's LaRoche, Eaton, Sale, Beckham, Shark, Lawrie, Duke, Blaine Boyer, Bryce Harper...etc. And they've aligned with Ventura and Hahn. Most, but not all of them, grew up with a certain amount of privilege or special treatment from their teenage years onward. Then you have basically everyone else who's not 100% comfortable in that group, especially the Hispanic players. thanks, you didn't have to come forth, i was ready to jump on the sword for the principal
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 02:08 PM) No I was referring to earlier in the thread it was asked why it seemed the LaRoche supporters appeared to be only white. I just think that is circumstance . and i asked this.... r u sure it was me....
  20. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) I dont think the union can step in on verbal agreements. then it is that player and the org to figure things out. end of story.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) I understand respecting authority, but there are times you must step up for yourself and maybe your co workers. You have to have enough self respect not to let someone walk all over you. and in baseball it is called the union, the union rep takes it to the union to act on it.
  22. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) I think thats why Sale is pissed. Cause it came from Kenny. Sale considers Kenny Steped over Ventura and Hahn. Maybe if it was a coach sale wouldnt have been so pissed cause that coach has a clubhouse pressence. That and the fact that it seems Sale doesnt really like Kenny toi much made him explode. Like someone said, Sale was in ambush mode waiting for something to lash out at Kenny. And that kenny pointed fingers at everyone to justify his actions the msg coming from the sox org.... the chain of command is really moot.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) I don't think Sale has any reason to lie, and as was noted earlier, while the individual tweets made him look like he had lost his mind, the transcript and video of his comments were far more sane. Also with Eaton, keep in mind he is the player rep, and has to be out in front in these situations, especially if there is a grievance potentially being filed. I don't agree with the racial stuff. I just think the Sox black guys are really new to the team, and many of their Latin players are either really new to the team or don't speak English well enough to where they want their quotes all over the media. These new guys had known this dynamic for only a couple of weeks. i never said anything racial on any of my post .... eaton can do his job as rep, but why the tweets??? ref the cuban and latino faction.... they are prob thinking these americans are crazy....
  24. QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) eaton basically said he thinks the sox are planting the story that players complained about drake. it doesn't matter, this is a direct directive from the boss. any other reaction from an employee is called insubordination. anyway when did the employee dictate to the bosses.
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 01:53 PM) Listening to Eaton, it seems like he thinks this will get smoothed over. I think bottom line for them...my sense is they hate Kenny Williams because they have no relationship with him, but they want to play for each other and everyone else around the team. So I don't think this is exactly over, but it may not have much impact on the results on the field. We'll see. too bad nothing was asked in his part of this whole thing. his tweeting, which in my opinion help escalate or added more fuel to the flames of this incident. but the no relationship .... does he expect for kw to ask him for dinner???
