  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 04:05 AM) Can you be more specific. ?Not sure what you're talking about. Colleen Kane article. Hahn mention today on how the sox could go all if b/c the main core of players are entering there prime. I said something real early today on almost those same words. then again it could be a coincidence.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 03:42 AM) Hearing he's having the tryout in Guatemala reminds me of "Million Dollar Arm." So bizarre, the guy everyone's hyping as the next big superstar after Mike Trout and he's in the second poorest Central American country after Honduras. #24, same as Viciedo, haha. If there was ONE time I really wanted JR to open up the purse strings and take a risk, it's on Moncada. I just don't know. I really need to read what others will say tomorrow, after they see him. for me, my money would be on Jose Fernadez and / or Tomas. this is subject to chg.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 03:04 AM) If there was a poll, will the White Sox ACTUALLY spend/add: $20-25 million to 2015 payroll $25-35 million $35 million + I would bet that 60-65% of SoxTalk posters would go with the 2nd choice. And there would probably be more "old/er" Sox fans betting on the lower number rather than the higher number. Until they actually go out and do it, there will be a plethora of "Doubting Thomases." One thing that would be annoying is if the Cubs add Lester, Zimmerman and Martin and the White Sox responded with one big signing from a PR perspective in order to sell tickets but not really it being in the best long-term interest of the team, like overpaying for Victor Martinez. Hopefully Hahn's too smart for that, although the pressure is being turned up a bit with Maddon also in town. It's going to be increasingly difficult not to compare the two Chicago managers. me #3 option. I think the sox will go almost all in to put a real good team on the field.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 02:40 AM) Multiple reports in the past couple days have said we'll have $40M to spend and I could see it being a little higher than that. While I fully expect a payroll right around $100M if all goes well in free agency, it's not that crazy to think they could go up to $110M if they hit on all their targets. You have to invest in your business to grow it, so if the Sox want to increase attendance and ultimately revenues, they need to commit to winning by spending big up front. based on some sort of statistical formula, the sox have spent what they can so they won't loose money. I remember how KW said it was based on the fans coming to the games. more fans, more money more investment in players in fa.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 07:11 AM) Congrats to Abreu; quite a season. Congrats to Sox front office for signing him as well. and to JR for going outside the box and bid higher. esp when KW mentioned that JR bid than what he, KW set up as parameters.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 02:15 AM) Enter another argument about WAR overvaluing players like Heyward or Alex Gordon with high walk rates and/or stellar defensive abilities/outfield arms. but something came out on ATL wants a kings ransom for their players. pass.
  7. i was catching up on news with regards to baseball. I used to hear how some believe what is being said here was making it to the press. I was a little skeptical. now I am here to apologize. I saw where things we discuss today was being phrase on the article. I mean its almost the same. it is too much of a coincidence
  8. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 09:52 PM) I feel that it's a matter of time before the deal is done. The Mets are stuck. good when the mets put a real offer on the table, then make a call to the dodgers. see what they will offer.
  9. in all things being equal, if the sox sign a #1 type of pitcher, and the rest of the deals that may be done. I for one believe that result will be in a huge increase will be on the sell of season tickets. the immediate results will be seen. maybe not by us the fans but at the ticket sales. from there everything will trickle down. it will a bonus day for the sox esp in the financial sense. they will be a hot ticket again.
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 08:03 PM) according to mlb trade mets are now trying to the Phillies and rollin. according to GM of the Phillies, they are about to talked to Rollins about his 5 and 10 rights. now according to cbs sports, Rollins have turn down Phillies request of being traded to NYM. mets are getting no where.
  11. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 07:54 PM) Sale was ranked #20 by BA, and #19 by BP. really ..... dang it so much for where I was trying to go with. now I forgot my point. let me add as a final statement on Anderson for today, I would not change from the course of letting him develop even if he came out smoking in spring training. many thanks to all on this.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 08:06 PM) That's what I meant for "and the bench" if we use the 4 good OF's approach for DH we wouldn't have to worry about bench depth. not using pinch runners as much , more speed in the every day lineup and no 1 dimensional ( hit only) guy . a great point esp if there are a mix of lefty and righty. has any team ever use the dh as a rotating position ????
  13. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 08:05 PM) "for player or pitcher under comparable or longer control. Kendrick eligible for FA at end of season." That's got to be about the dumbest thing I've read all day. Ummm, when you only have 1 year left on your contract, EVERY player or pitcher is under control for a comparable or longer time. It's impossible not to be. no offense , I am lost here. but pls let me add, Kendrick has 1 yr left. who would want to make that trade? get a player who can provide some offense for 1 yr. short term maybe price 9 mil. sox offer Danks and some low prospect. again it was not the sox who made this announcement of willing to make a trade. it was the other team.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 07:49 PM) Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 3m3 minutes ago The Braves' asking prices for Gattis and other young players is said by rival officials to be extremely high. well that is not to happen for the sox.
  15. I was listening to the radio and I couldn't hear quite rights too much static. it was saying a major team has asked several top fa's if they would take max money and a short very short contract. I wonder who were the players involve. 1 is Tomas. who else.
  16. according to mlb trade mets are now trying to the Phillies and rollin. according to GM of the Phillies, they are about to talked to Rollins about his 5 and 10 rights.
  17. QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 05:37 PM) Yes it's absolutely fair. Keep in mind I've conferred with many other outsiders(of both teams) on this issue. Alexei's value should be high. thanks the updated info.
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) I'd be shocked to see the Sox take on any bad contracts. There are enough guys on the FA market who will provide value that won't break the bank. Lot's of guys who will be 3 yrs around $30-40M and less for most relief pitchers. for me, it is like killing 2 birds with 1 stone. lets uses dodgers and Crawford. he is still a player and still has speed. he still can contribute. however it is his contract. the sox that the contract plus what ever money and trade them danks. the money with equal itself out fill out a position of need and has a little more money to use somewhere else. lets also assume we can get the dodgers to include a prospect 15-20, there are several there that are very interesting. if not then walk away, they the dodgers need this trade.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 05:38 PM) He has his whole career . Good OBP guy, won't kill you on defense. To me he's like VMart-lite, switch hitter who hits LH's and RH's pretty equally but since he's not a DH can provide value in the field and for the bench. and if necessary I would think DH as well. thanks
  20. I just read on the mlb rumor page that Dayan Viciedo was a non tendered Candidates and the team has until Dec to decide. this is a normal practice right???
  21. QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 05:18 PM) You just wait for the Mets to offer Wheeler straight up and you take it i am being perfectly honest here. would that be a fair deal? i am very guilty of over valuing the sox players and prospects.
  22. interesting stats on kendrick, plus 9+ mil for a last yr. why not Danks, May and Beck.
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 04:40 PM) Without the Yanks and Dodgers being on it (Dodgers not looking to give out any big contracts right now) I just can't see anyone driving up the price good for us, who is his agent again???
  24. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 04:45 PM) The more and more I look over the list of free agents and their expected price tags the better and better Melky Cabrera looks. big question can he maintain his hitting to strikeout stats.
