  1. I had a chance to talk to Rowand at SoxFest. We talked for about an hour, and he is probably the coolest, most normal ball player I've ever met. I talked to him about the diving catch that he made in the game when lightning hit the park and blew out the generators after the first play. He talked about how he loves to go balls out and bust his ass for the fans watching. He stressed a number of times how he knows he may not be the best CF in the league, but that he is always gonna try his hardest for the fans that stick by the team. If there is 1 person who I want to see succeed, it is Aaron Rowand. All these people talking about how bad he is this year have probably never had to come back from an injury and perform. It isn't easy. Give the man time to get healthy. And lay off him on a personal level.
  2. Have you seen him in concert? I saw him at the UC a few months back, and it was an awesome concert. Some of my buddies laughed at me for going, but they have no idea how good of a performer he is. Good stuff.
  3. Skip class. I used to, and I had to drive up from WIU in Macomb. There are still tix available.
  4. First off Jerry Manual is an idiot. never liked him. You have a guy at the plate who bunts foul twice. The count goes full. You have him bunt again? what a f***ing stupid call. the guy has been swinging the bat really well, and he calls a bunt. Unreal. With the talent this team has, why have we had 1 good year since Manual has been here. I know it's too early to start saying outrageous things, like some people. But it isn't too early to wonder, why?
  5. Hey, easy on the Irish!! It is Southside. "And our 2 favorite clubs are the Go Go White Sox, and anyone who plays the Cubs."
  6. I'll be there the whole weekend. I haven't asked my boss about friday yet, but I'll be taking a half day. Gonna have to drink fast to catch up to my buddies though. Anyone know what time they're opening the gates for the lots?
  7. Remember too that Mt. Greenwood is close to Beverly which is about as close to the Northside in terms of ambience as the Southside gets. Gotta figure if a Northsider has to move to the Southside, then Beverly is where he/she is going to go..... especially if they have to live in the city. I know a handful of CPD and CFD that were born and raised Northsiders (Cub fans) who moved to the Beverly neighborhood because it was close to their police/fire station. I left Chi in 85, but get back periodically and try to keep up to date with all the changes since then. I worked with a guy in the late 70's and early 80's. He was raised in the St Margaret of Scotland parish and lived in Mt. Greenwood at the time. Very old time traditional Irish Catholic, loved the Sox hated the Cubs. He was big time for Notre Dame and the old Chicago Cardinals too. Some of the folks in his neighborhood called it their holy trinity of sports teams. I grew up in North Park and Albany Park near Von Steuben and Roosevelt High Schools. Our Lady of Mercy was my church. That's supposed to be cub territority but lots of my classmates rooted for the Sox. Seems to me it was about 50/50. The Sox were perennial pennant contenders then and the cubs were going through the worst period in their history. Thanks for the south side update. By the way I always liked driving down Longwood Drive. They actually have some hills in Chicago! Gotta love the Irish Catholics. I'm actually leaving for Ireland tomorrow night. Going for a week, and I can't wait. I effectively stopped working as of 2:00 today. I'm still here, just being lazy. Speaking of the holy trinity of sports I was just talking about that last night. Sox, ND, and Bears. there's my 3.
  8. Without the US, they'd be speaking German. I love how everytime another country needs help, they come running to us. But whenever we need help they tell us to go f*** ourselves. This isn't about oil people. Saddam is doing the same s*** Hitler did in the years before the war. he is lying and defying as much as he can. he takes a little, then takes a little more. When does it end? He can't keep pushing the envelope to see how much he can get. He's been doing it for 10 years now. Take him out!!! Oh yeah, and by the way. North Korea
  9. "Hippies..........Hippies.........they all want to save the world, but all they do is smoke pot and smell bad" --Eric Cartman--
  10. This team will win nothing with Jalen Rose as their "leader". He takes stupid shots, and takes way too many. he is shooting less than 40% from the field. Chandler is a sally, although I'm really rooting for this kid to turn it up. Curry is a waste of a big body. Jay Williams is being wasted in the stupid triangle offense. They need to run an offense that works for what they have, instead of trying to change players into a system. This team is not set up for the triangle. Jamal is definitly NOT far superior to Jay. Crawford can shoot when there is no-one around him, but he is a terrible point gaurd. He makes bad decisions, and tries to street ball way too much. he is more suited for a shooting gaurd spot. Donyell is awesome. The lone bright spot on the team. Losing Fizer is going to hurt this team more than we think. He was finally showing all that talent we've been hearing about. Hassle is a good defensive player, but is more of a liability on O than he was last year. E-Rob is a waste in this Org and should be traded somewhere that he can actually play. If such a team exists. And to think I was actually looking forward to this season.
  11. Although you may want to use another name than Bill.
  12. I also was part of a scam when I was in college. Someone called my phone and identified themselves as Bill from the physical plant. They said that they were having a number of serious problems with the electricity in the dorms. they then asked me to check to see if my refridgerator was running. When I told them that it was, they laughed and told me to catch it before it gets away. Consequences of this scam are annoyance and later realization that that was actually pretty funny. Heather, maybe you can do this when you are board at ISU. I did it a couple times while I was a WIU Leatherneck, and it was fun as hell. Just a suggestion.
  13. Although I am too young to have seen it live, I love to see the hit that Butkus put on a fan during a game. I think that should be part of the sentence for fans that do that. They have to take an open field hit from Dick Butkus. Baggio, I know you'll agree.
  14. Section 113....that was a good post...but I gotta ask....do you know who is quoted as saying that first? Because it is a very good quote to live by You know, I can always remember the quotes, but never who penned it. My college English professors probably wouldn't be too happy about that. If I come across it I will cite my reference and let you know. I agree that it is a good way to go through life, unfortunately, I don't always practice that. Just like Roman, and everyone else, I will spout off from time to time as well. Roman, just remember that despite the intense reactions from this thread, everyone says things that get people up at arms from time to time. Part of the learning experience. Now don't let it happen again!!!lol
  15. First of all, if you dislike a person for no real reason, you are useless in a civilized society. Thats for racists, sexsts, bigots, etc.... Second, if I had a dollar for every time you changed a position at the drop of a hat, I'd be rich. Remember when they brought up Crede and you "hated him". It took about a week before you jumped on the bandwagon and professed your love for Joe crede. Listen kid, you have to realize that, until you have a solid stance on an issue, supported by facts, what you are saying is pointless. You say you Detest(which is a strong word anyway) MB due to the fact that he attended a charity event put on by another club. then you say you detest him for no reason. Which is it. Better to stay quiet and let people think you are a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Moral is, don't be stupid.
  16. Actually, no, it was at La Passage. I have heard that he is at The Hunt Club a lot.
  17. "Frank is seeing his old hitting coach, Walt Hriniak, as of now" Actually, that is the other question I asked Frank on saturday and he said the he doesn't start to work with Hriniak until spring training. I thought that was odd, and that he'd start before, but he may just be dedicating this time to strength and conditioning. The one thing I forgot to ask was whether KW is the most incompetant GM ever. It's not hard to forget to bring things up at 3:00 AM when you don't even know where you are.
  18. I ran into Big Frank this past weekend at a club in the city. I managed to talk to him for a minute and asked the same question. He told me that he wasn't sure if he'd be there cause he is living in Vegas this offseason. The way he said it led me to believe that he will not be there.
