  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) Tyler Flowers has a .197 career batting average and strikes out about as much as Adam Dunn. Its amazing how many people are even slightly excited about his future. I know. That's what people should be gagging on. Not elrockin's post. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) Flowers will have to show more development this year or I am betting AJP ends 2012 as the #1 Sox catcher and they are trying to extend him for 2013 and 14. Tyler has been inconsistent to say the least, but showed signs of maturing at the big league level. Hard to judge right now what he might do if handed the job. Talent for sure but he needs to show it on a day in day out basis I know people aren't happy about it. I'm not either, but as of right now the Sox don't have what I'd call a decent option at catcher.
  2. Dunn looks to me like a hitter's version of Steve Blass, the ace of the 71 Pirates who suddenly and inexplicably lost the ability to throw a strike. I think we'll know real early next year if he has a comeback in him. Rios is one of my all time disliked White Sox players. Lousy attitude, lousy effort, and terrible results. Please get rid of him. Peavy was on the decline before his unusual and pretty horrific and without precedent injury. I expect very little from him, and in a best case scenario his Cy Young days are long gone. Am I really supposed to look forward to these three leading the Sox back to pennant contention?
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 23, 2011 -> 07:17 PM) That's why I hate the "rebuilding" people. A lot of them think rebuilding means totally demolishing the team. That won't cut it in Chicago. Sox have to try to compete/win. If the Sox rebuild they're going to stink for at least a few years. If the Sox don't rebuild they may bounce back a little next year but by 2013 or 14 at the latest they will be looking at a future comparable to what the Royals and Pirates have experienced for decades.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 23, 2011 -> 05:41 PM) Atlanta is a premier organization with lots of young talent. Maybe we needed a change in Chicago, but I think Atlanta saw that Walker is pretty good in his own right. Certainly. The White Sox offensive juggernaut the last few years proves it. Especially the way Sox hitters like to work a pitcher to get a favorable count, which means a better pitch to hit.
  5. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 10:45 AM) All the Oz hate He's such a loyal and lovable guy.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 02:16 AM) Are you saying KW's actually having an affair with an Argentinian woman but pretending to be in the D.R.? Would be pretty hard to prove he's actually there unless you're with NCIS or CSI. That is too funny. Our ex governor says hello.
  7. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 02:42 AM) This happens annually at pretty much every noteworthy prospecting site/publication. Expect the rankings relatively soon. A universal bottom 3 ranking is all but guaranteed. Here is the latest I could find. I still wonder how much research they put into it and contend that a lot of it is a guessing game. Just like when rivals.com does its star rankings for HS football and basketball recruits. That being said, the state of the farm system is something KW needs to address if he wants to rehabilitate his reputation with Sox fans. http://www.aolnews.com/2011/02/10/2011-farm-system-rankings/
  8. A flippant remark on twitter is taken as gospel? I don't think the Sox minor league system is all that great but let's see someone do the hard work of comparing it in depth to the 29 other teams. Also it usually takes several years to more accurately judge those that are considered prospects right now.
  9. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 07:38 PM) I can only imagine this crazy clubhouse where spies are needed. Rios doing lines off a strippers boobs. AJ and MB playing beer pong. Sale and Beckham pulling 6 ft bongs. Ramirez and Viciedo sacrificing a goat next to their Santeria shrine. JFP riding around naked on a painted pony with a bottle of Wild Turkey in an Indian headdress. And Sergio carrying a little cooler screaming "tamale! tamale!." Oh, the insanity.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) This example has gone off of track, unless you are trying to say you need to be a PHD to understand that Ozzie and the Guillens kids did more "spying" and "snitching" as compared to anyone else. Yeah isn't that something? Cooper is a snitch and a rat and a witch for trying to get a new contract when his was about to expire. Ozzie is a saint for wanting an extension when he was guaranteed at least 2012. You know that Reinsdorf in his love for one of his two favorite sons would have given that extension if Ozzie had put his nose to the grindstone and at least tried to get his team to rebound.
  11. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 02:57 AM) Cooper is the spy. You make about as much sense as this only you're not quite as funny.
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 03:31 AM) Because you can't take even the slightest hint of criticism of Kenny Williams. How would you have the slightest idea what I really think of the White Sox GM? You're making an assumption that you shouldn't.
  13. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) Now it makes sense why Coop wasn't given serious consideration for the manager's job. Kenny didn't have a spy to take his place. Your act, whoever you are is tiresome.
  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 8, 2011 -> 03:47 AM) Have you ever listened to Coop on the SCORE? He was like this even in 2005.So he was a little high strung, but I think he defended himself well against the snake in the grass Cowley.
  15. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) This Mike North guy is now on the radio in LA, some syndicated show. It's agonizing and he's ruining my evening commute. Is he the tool that Ozzie got into it with? I'm just asking, but don't they have a gazillion or so radio stations in LA? If I lived there I'd tune into KKJZ while in the car.
  16. QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 09:39 PM) For all his bravado and the Noo Yawk accent, Coop is extremely thin-skinned and defensive. He'd crack under the daily questioning within a month. Hey you may be right about him being thin skinned, but I don't believe he comes close to Ozzie in that department. Or vindictiveness.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) After listening to that interview I can see why Coop didn't get the job. He's a wildman with that accent and edge. I love his work and like his attitude but no way he could deal with the media twice a day. You guys are right bout that one. A wild man? He's from New York City and has that strong accent. People from Chicago have a strong accent too, especially the way they accentuate the vowels.
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) Cooper confirmed a lot of what Cowley wrote today, then he called him a liar? Crazy stuff. You really are good at dissembling, I have to grant you that.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 01:54 AM) Let's just say it's the standard "Greg Walker/KAPLAN" curriculum for test (game day batting execution). As you know, as a teacher, you're often more pressured to prepare the students to do better on the standardized state tests than the ACT/SAT. I actually witnessed this firsthand myself in Kansas City. The school district spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to bring KAPLAN tutors into high schools where the 20-25% of juniors and seniors who took the test and had aspirations of college resulted in an average score of 13.1 on the ACT. But none of the tutors could "change" or adapt from their standardized approach of just following the KAPLAN materials. They quickly realized the basic foundation in Math/English that they expected to find when they started the class simply didn't exist. In a sense, students who should have been in remediation (especially in math/science) were being asked to handle materials that would theoretically bump a low 20's ACT score into the mid or even high 20's (in a very idealistic world). The students quickly became frustrated with the increasing difficulty of the material and quickly tuned the tutors out because most of them didn't even have a glimmer of hope they could afford to pay for university. Were the scores really that bad? That's a composite slightly above the 6th percentile.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 09:58 PM) He's professional, smart, proven, and classy. I'd love to have him. To see how many people gripe about LaRussa or even Francona, it just boggles my mind. Especially when you have the crap the Sox have ran out. I haven't watched a game in a month and don't miss baseball at all. I hate this team and hate this organization right now. They are classless in the way they act and this is the most unlikeable team I've ever been a fan of. And to hear that the organizatoin might have zero major changes, it blows my mind. I completely agree. I've rooted for the Sox longer than most people here have been alive and this organization right now revolts me.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 24, 2011 -> 10:21 PM) Peavy and Rios were big gambles. As unlucky as Williams was with Dunn, nobody expected Konerko to have the year he had either. Dunn showed signs in the second half of 2010 that he was on the decline. Of course no one could have predicted how bad he would be the following year, although .210-.220 with declining power numbers sure looked possible.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 10:53 PM) I guess I don't see why we have all the Ozzie hate either. If Reinsdorf signs him I am fine with it. What I really wonder is if a mutual decision to split is made between friends and then Ozzie goes to greener fields in Miami is what might happen, but I for one would like to see Ozzie back for 3 or 4 years. Ozzie can't hit for Dunn or Rios, can't pitch for Peavy, et al, can't help injuries, etc. He could have did things better for sure but so could KW have done better. We had a bad year no doubt. Hopefully 2012 is better. I think we have some motivated people on the team to make that happen. Of course. At least 3 or 4 years for sure, longer preferably. The Sox are 438-445 since 7-7-06. That's only 5 1/2 seasons and almost .500. Such excellence should not go unrewarded.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) I think the seed was planted before Day One with Jerry pushing Ozzie onto Kenny when KW wanted Cito. I agree. The draft thing with Ozzie's son made the rift complete I think.
  24. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 12:54 AM) Let's keep Ozzie, Cooper and Mark Buerhle. Let's not.
  25. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 11:18 PM) Wow excuse me black jack, Alex Fernandez, Floyd bannister, Joel horlen, Gary peters, Ed Walsh..... Billy Pierce is better than all of them. Ted Lyons too. Ed Walsh was one of the best in the early years of the 20th Century. One thing the Sox have had in their not so great history is pitching.
