  1. My favorite Sox team until 05 came along.
  2. They are ranked according to plate appearances. No way Dunn is number 20 on the list of worst players.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Being stupid, committing a non-lethal, non-violent crime (and being brown!) means you've given up your right to life, I guess. I would have shot at them no matter what color they were. Now I know why I've avoided this part of the board for a long time. What a depressing thread.
  4. Reading Jim's article makes me think he is an excellent baseball analyst. Far above anyone on the Trib or Sun Times.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 07:10 PM) It seems cut and dried. If they won't extend him, it's off to Florida where I say he gets four years. Many of you tell me I'm wrong and he'll 'only' get three. Good luck to anyone who works for the Marlins owner.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 05:17 AM) Hopefully if this is Peavy's last start, he has something to build upon for next spring and he can finally ramp his velocity back up into the 94-95 MPH range and rediscover his slider. Ending up with a sub 5 ERA is also nice...well, it's an improvement of sorts, albeit against a AAA line-up. I don't think Peavy was ever consistently in the 94-95 range since he's been with the Sox. His velocity had been trending down even before his latissimus dorsi injury.
  7. QUOTE (OilCan @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:26 PM) Baseball Prospectus wrote an article last year about the top 10 managerial prospects. Here's the link: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=11334 Mackanin is a graduate of Brother Rice.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) If Dunn and Rios had good seasons, this is an easy 90 win team with its pitching. Probably many said with Dunn and Rios this is an easy 90 win team. Who knows who is going to surprise one way or another next year. That and I see nothing special about the White Sox pitching staff. Oh it's been pretty good so far this year, but nothing exceptional.
  9. Since starting the 06 season at 56-29 the Sox are 430-432. If you prefer starting with the 07 season they are 396-389. How much longer should we wait to change course?
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) Yeah, but you end it still friends right? And it's not personal. Winning changes everything. Maybe 2012 becomes the make or break for Ozzie, the coaches and KW This tired old soap opera needs to come to an end. The future of the franchise is at stake. Also remember that while you're sticking up for Ozzie for sticking up for himself that he does it in an angry and vindictive manner. What franchise allows its manager to continually berate the fan base in a most angry manner? Honestly the continued enabling of all things Ozzie is very old.
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) I love how you guys keep saying this as though anyone who wants a rebuild is completely ignorant. I am well aware that it may take years, and I'm fine with that. I'll watch anyway. As long as there is a coherent plan in place and some viable young talent is in the pipeline I'm totally fine with a rebuild. Right now the Sox are headed off a cliff, change is necessary for survival.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 12:25 AM) That is a huuuuuuuuuuuuge leap to make from ankle injury to a detached lat muscle, sorry. If a pitcher has a leg, ankle or foot injury he often changes his throwing mechanics to compensate. It can have disastrous results. Read about old time great Dizzy Dean. I don't know if this is what happened to Peavy or not but it's not as far fetched as you might think. Dean's injury
  13. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 09:41 PM) Earl Weaver was all about the 3-run homer. Yeah right. Dumbest in game strategist ever. Not nearly as good as Ozzie.
  14. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 07:32 PM) Earl Weaver, considered by many one of the best mangers of all time, relied on ptching, defense, and sat back and waited for the 3 run homer. I don't agree with everything OG does but many people (not saying you) seem to think, no matter what Ozzie does is wrong. If he would have let Lillibridge bat and strike out, I'm sure some would have been saying Dunn should have been up there. I guess what I'm saying is most people just assume the best is going to happen if a situation was handled the way they think it should. If Dunn would have cracked a 3 run HR there, would people be giving Ozzie credit for a great move? I doubt it. The one thing OG has done pretty consistently is put a wining team out there. They may not win enough all the time, but he's not a guy like Eric Wedge who wins manager of the year one year and is fired within 2-3 years afterwards. In my mind, the 3 most consistent managers in the AL have been Scioscia, Gardenhire and Ozzie. Their teams, for the most part, are always in it. I don't count Francona and Girardi because, with that payroll, all they have to do is not mess things up. You are so wrong about Earl Weaver. He was a master tactician who knew and would use every trick in the book. Including having Eddie Murray steal home in this game, taking advantage of a young inexperienced Sox pitcher Guy Hoffman. Ozzie Guillen isn't even close to an Earl Weaver. Weaver schooled him
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 06:10 PM) You mean like when KW hired Ozzie? Because that's what happened. The Chairman intervenes behind the scenes on a lot of issues and KW wanted Cito Gaston, not Ozzie.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 02:08 AM) Because you're an absolute moron. Or he's doing these things to spite his GM?
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 05:24 AM) He is awesome. Sign him up. Move KW upstairs or whatever. Promote Hahn. He's an insufferable boor.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 06:42 PM) I like these comments by Oz: “Let’s get this straight: I’m the face of the franchise,’’ Guillen said. “People can say what they want. There’s a lot of blame going around out there, but I blame myself because I guess I’m the one with the balls around here. It’s not because I’m cocky or an arrogant guy, but I can leave Chicago with my head up. That’s what’s important to me. “Jerry is the one that has to decide on if [Kenny and I] can make it work. We’re doing it, getting by. We’re not best friends, but we make due. We’re professional. We do what’s best for the ballclub. Our job is more important than our friendship. “I do know I’m trying to win games, period.’’ I still don't see how Ozzie can get the boot considering this team's average record with this s***-ass lineup. You don't fire a manager who has a WS title to his credit and an average record this year. Get rid of Kenny; keep Ozzie. What's so difficult about that? Ozzie is right. He is the face of the franchise. I'd say odds of both taking the fall though are 90/10. Like the article said, this is costing Jerry money now. I'm glad you like them because I sure as hell don't. What an egomaniac, and a childish one at that.
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) I've compared Ozzie to Ditka so many times. It's almost a perfect comparison. I'd say Ozzie is Ditka on steroids.
  20. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) Who was the St. Louis pitcher who lost it and ended up in the outfield after reconfiguring his game? Are you referring to this guy?
  21. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) I like the way people consistently want to keep everything good about this team exactly the way that it is, and fix just Dunn and Rios. It would be nice if baseball was that cut and dried. Every year, every team has 1-2 players who struggle beyond our wildest expectations. In 2001, it was David Wells and Royce Clayton. In 2002, it was Todd Ritchie and his 5-15 record. In 2003, it was Paul Konerko and his impossibly low .230 average that was even worse than that for most of the year. In 2004, it was Joe Crede hitting .239. The list goes on from there. Outside of Steve Blass, who was a pitcher, I've never seen or been aware of a productive player falling as far and fast as Adam Dunn. Rios, while not quite as abysmal as Dunn, allowed his struggles at the plate to affect his fielding, which had been a strong point for him. The failures of these two guys is epic.
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) So did you like 2 more months of Jackson then not resigning with the Sox or Teahen ? If Frasor walks we get the same thing we would have got for Jackson walking. 4+ years of Stewart >>>> 2 months of Jackson. I have nothing against the Sox trading Jackson, an overly expensive back of the rotation kind of guy. I did feel he did OK by us during his time with the Sox. Teahen should have been a decent signing but guys seem to forget how to hit when they play for the Sox. I've liked watching Stewart pitch. I like his approach, variety of pitches and the way he carries himself. I just want to wait and see, being cautious by nature.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 08:13 PM) The thing is we got Stewart and Fraisor plus we dumped Teahen, all for a guy who wasn't going to be back next year. That is all kinds of win. You guys all make good points, I guess I'm just from Missouri when it comes to trades.
  24. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) That young, cheap, and under control Zach Stewart has been about as good as EJax for the Cards or Rasmus for the Jays, among other things, apparently. I agree that it could be a good deal, I'm just not ready to call it that yet. I need to see a lot more of Stewart and Frasor hasn't been all that great.
