One thing I see to be true a lot of the time is that it's not how book smart you are - although it is advantageous to be able to process information - but how "street smart" you are. Anyone else think that to be true? I agree with you. Occasionally you find a person who is both IQ smart and street smart. That is the type of person I'd like working for me. There is also mechanical ability, artistic ability and other factors in evaluating a person IMO.

Sometime ago in the course of looking something up I found these IQ scores for the following American politicians: Richard Nixon 147 Bill Clinton 137 Al Gore 134 George W Bush 119 JFK 119 These were tests taken during their High School years.

When Pittsburgh got him they had real high hopes. What a bust of a trade that was. They gave up Jason Schmitt. In his second game for the Pirates he tore up his knee and he's not been the same since. He lost the pop in his bat and what little mobility he had in the field. I think he's history.

Once upon a time Chicago was a White Sox town. For a lot of reasons it no longer is. If things fall into place the pendulum can swing back. Of course Jason is right, winning consistently can change things. They can't ignore you on Sports Center if you're a championship team.

Thanks. I didn't think anyone noticed.

Come to the south. They like a little tea to go with their sugar. When they ask if you want any sweet tea down here they aren't kidding.

Didn't read this thread so if I'm repeating something I apologize. We attended this game. Seats were great, crowd small, but lively. Concessions are among the best IMO. First indoor game I ever attended. It felt strange. The Tropicana Dome has absolutely no character, but I love baseball. Jorge Sosa looks so hittable. I'm amazed and dumbounded that the Sox didn't pound him. He's got Nothing. Thomas and others fishing for pitches low and away. Baldelli, Huff and Crawford are good players for the Rays. Baldelli looks especially nice in CF. Loaiza struggled his last three innings. Hitters are starting to solve him and I will be shocked if his ERA is under 3 at the end of the year. He had a nice little run and now he is going back to being Estaban Loaiza. The Sox could not get the timely hit until the 9th. They looked flat, I think Koch's butchery the previous evening demoralized the team. Everett looked safe on that play at second. They were many vocal Sox fans in attendance. This was a terrible series for the Sox. They blew it big time. The three run homer walk off loss on Friday was awful. The Rays announcer said that Koch threw three straight change ups to Al Martin. Al Martin??? The announcer seemed oblivious to the fact that Koch has totally lost his velocity and is trying to get by on his wits and finesse. You saw the results. That was the worst loss of the year. The Sox will probably finish around .500 for the year. No playoffs. If I'm wrong great. I don't want to be right.

There's some misinformation here. IQ tests are often scaled differently. You have to know what the standard deviation is to evaluate your score. For instance if you score 130 on the Wechsler test it is equal to 132 on a Stanford Binet test. Both are equal to a 148 on a Catell test. Most online tests are bulls***. I was told that Brain.com has the most accurate online IQ tests and that the 12 minute IQ test is especially challenging and reasonably accurate. By the way a 115 is not average, it is in the 70-84th percentile depending on how it was scaled. Very few people score higher than a 130 on a real timed and proctored IQ test. Most scores will be bunched between about 92-114. IQ is also only one measure of intelligence IMO. It is not worthless like some claim, but it is not the be all and end all that others also claim.

I like reading stuff like this. I notice that Chicago is the favorite city by a very large margin over its closest competitor the Big Apple. Baseball players must have some sense of what's good, Chicago really is a great city. It made me miss the place again. Those of you who still live within 50 miles or so of Chicago consider yourself fortunate. For all its faults Chicago is still one of a handful of first rate cities. The more you travel the more you'll appreciate the place.

Even if he isn't so what? Who said jocks have to be geniuses? I don't like Dusty Baker and I certainly don't like the Cubs but I hope this doesn't cause him any undo grief. There is no such thing as "free speech" in this country unless it's sanitized and doesn't offend anybody. It's so easy to called a racist, sexist, homophobe, ageist, etc etc etc. Race remains a painful topic and there is hardly ever any meaningful dialogue about the subject. Only guilty hand wringing is allowed. Al Campanis and Jimmy the Greek had their lives and careers ruined over ill chosen remarks. Reggie White got lambasted, but managed to survive although I think he lost his Chunky Soup endorsement over it. Maybe Dusty will survive this. Much ado about nothing.

I quit posting there a few months back for my own reasons. I never flamed the sight, least of all any of the mods. I gave Daver high praise on this site, he was nice to me when I dealt with him. I would lurk there from time to time because I like some of the historical features there, and I want to see if anyone had any hot info. I'm an information junkie. Anyway, some one posted a boxing question, so I figured the hell with it, I'll give it another try. I posted and I see I should have saved my energy. As far as cliqueishness goes that is true to some degree on all message boards IMHO. It's really heavy at WSI and MLB.com (at least it was, don't think there's much left of that site now). Often times you can feel you're posting for yourself to yourself. It can happen on any board. In any case, just got back from Tampa-St.Pete. Got to see the Sox - lose. Maybe I'll post on Pale Hose Talk about it.

I didn't realize how bad his clutch stats really were. The most unclutch big name player in my lifetime.

I've read quite a few 'opinions' on this site. Are people's opinions 'useless' here? How can anyone look at our 'tub of goo' and believe his 6-7 record has helped us? Since when is an opinion here worthless? I thought it was OK here to have opinions. I thought it was OK to not like KW. I sure as hell don't. He's a disaster by any standard of measurement. I thought as posts go this one was pretty damn good. I agree with 4 out of 5, I'm on the fence with Colon. I thought he was overhyped in Cleveland, but was willing to believe he was ready for true stardom after last year when he went 20-9 for two teams.

And that's what you got to do to win close ones like this. Man I hope this game gives them a shot of adrenaline and has some carry to it.
-
Danny Wright may or may not pan out in the long run. but I love the guy. He's got guts and he's a fighter. It ain't always pretty but gives it his all.
-
Raised his arms up and pumped his right fist in the air. There was no doubt about it. This is why you just don't not put these games on TV. Every Cub-Sox game HAS to be on national TV. It just isn't right the other way around. Man, would i have killed to have seen the end of this one. Just saw the highlights. Had to peel myself off the ceiling!!
-
Number 5 looks real damn good right now. Good call!!! He means so much to the team.
-
We won? We Won!!!!!! I hope he did the Sammeee kissing routine!!
-
I agree. He has completely lost his touch. It used to be his one and only major strength.
-
It's Koch's fault. I've lost patience. He just ain't doing the job. Miss you very much Keith.
-
I don't agree with TT in any way. He is very funny, but this isn't one of his better ones. Besides most folks are probably on the game thread so maybe they didn't see it yet.

All season long! What is going on?

You know they have surveys and polls for everything these days. Recently, I read somewhere that the University of Texas at Austin hate the best looking coeds in the US. I guess they must have shipped all the rejects to Houston.

Anybody doing PBP? I'm in SC and have no direct access.
